The announcement came on Monday as Jio revealed its quarterly results, showcasing staggering numbers and milestones achieved in various segments. As of March 2024, Jio boasts a subscriber base of 481.8 million, out of which 108 million subscribers are on Jio's True5G Standalone network. The number reflects Jio's stronghold in the Indian telecom market. According to a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, marking a 35.2 per cent year-on-year increase. This surge is attributed to the growing adoption of 5G and Home services. Notably, 28 per cent of the traffic comes from 5G subscribers, indicating a swift transition towards next-generation connectivity. Additionally, Jio's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have contributed significantly to the data traffic. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic 2.4x increase in annual data traffic, with per capita monthly data usage skyrocketing to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. This surge underscores the growing reliance on digital connectivity in India. Commenting on the results, <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the company's performance and its contribution to the Indian economy. He highlighted the significant achievements, including becoming the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits. Ambani said, "Initiatives across RIL's businesses have made a remarkable contribution towards fostering growth of various sectors of the Indian economy. It is heartening to note that alongside strengthening the national economy, all segments have posted a robust financial and operating performance. This has helped the Company achieve multiple milestones. I am happy to share that this year, Reliance became the first Indian company to cross the Rs 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits." Ambani also emphasized Jio's role in driving the digital transformation in India, from upgrading 2G users to smartphones to leading the effort in producing AI-driven solutions. He reiterated Jio's commitment to strengthening the nation's digital infrastructure and its continued efforts to provide innovative solutions to consumers. The company's retail arm, Reliance Retail, also showed robust growth, with a 36 per cent increase in footfalls and strong digital commerce platforms offering a broad brand catalogue. "Reliance Retail continued to provide customers endless choices through its robust omni-channel presence. We continue to offer product differentiation and superior offline experience through stores remodelling and revamping of layouts. Our digital commerce platforms also provide newer solutions to users with a broad brand catalogue. Reliance Retail also works towards strengthening millions of merchants through its unique initiatives in new commerce space", said Ambani. In addition to its telecom and retail segments, Reliance Industries Limited has shown resilience in its Oil to Chemicals (O2C) segment, despite challenging market conditions. The KG-D6 block has achieved significant production milestones, accounting for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production. Ambani emphasised, "Strong demand for fuels globally, and limited flexibility in refining system worldwide, supported margins and profitability of the O2C segment. Downstream chemical industry experienced increasingly challenging market conditions through the year." He added, "Despite headwinds, maintaining leading product positions and feedstock flexibility through our operating model that prioritises cost management, we delivered a resilient performance. The KG-D6 block has achieved 30 MMSCMD of production and now accounts for 30 per cent of India's domestic gas production." In terms of financial performance, Reliance Jio has achieved several remarkable milestones. The consolidated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) at Rs 178,677 crore, while the consolidated Profit Before Tax (PBT) has surpassed Rs 100,000 crore. On the front, the device comes with a waterdrop notch with a selfie camera, which could be a 5MP sensor. JioPhone 5G leak reveals design, key specifications ahead of launch

According to the report, iPhone shipments grew about 39 per cent to 9.2 million units last year. "In CY23, India represented 4 per cent of iPhones shipments and revenue, up from 3 per cent in CY22 and 1 per cent 5 years ago," said analysts in the report. "If India continues to grow at the same trajectory while China iPhone shipments stay flat, India would be a bigger iPhone market than China by 2027," it added. TechCrunch was first to report on Apple India's 2023 revenue. Apple registered strong double-digit growth in the December quarter in India, reaching another quarter revenue record in the country, company's CEO <keyword id="19954680" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tim-cook" source="keywords">Tim Cook</keyword> said earlier this month. New Delhi, Jio on Monday launched internet-enabled Jio Bharat phones at Rs 999, packing-in cheaper monthly plan of Rs 123 for unlimited voice calls and 14 GB data. The new offering aims to accelerate the '2G Mukt Bharat' vision, as India still has 250 million mobile subscribers trapped in the 2G era with feature phones. While India is leading the 5G revolution on one side with the transformational Jio True 5G network, there is a section of society that is unable to reap the benefits of digital technology in entirety. "Jio Bharat is being launched with the objective of empowering every Indian with the power of digital services, especially those who cannot afford a smartphone. This will truly mark the beginning of digital freedom for the 250 million feature phone users in India and will bridge the digital divide," Jio said in a statement. Beta trial for first 1 million Jio Bharat phones starts from July 7, 2023. Besides Reliance Retail, other phone brands (starting with Karbonn) will adopt the 'Jio Bharat platform' to build 'Jio Bharat phones'. Jio Bharat is priced at Rs 999, "the lowest entry price for an internet-enabled phone", it said. It is offering 30 per cent cheaper monthly plan and 7 times more data compared to feature phone offerings of other operators. "Rs 123 per month for unlimited voice calls and 14 GB data, compared to other operators' Rs 179 plan for voice calls and 2GB data," the statement added. Lately, the digital disempowerment and disparity for feature phone users has become worse, with other telecom operators increasing the minimum price to stay connected, the statement said, adding even basic voice services for a 30-day period, which used to cost Rs 99 previously, now costs Rs 199. Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio, said there are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who remain "trapped" in the 2G era, unable to tap into basic features of the internet at a time when the world stands at the cusp of a 5G revolution. "Six years ago, when Jio was launched, we made it clear that Jio will leave no stone unturned to democratise internet and pass the benefits of technology to every Indian," he said. Technology will no longer remain a privilege for a select few, he said, highlighting that the new Jio Bharat phone is another step to ensure every single person reaps the benefits of digital society.
