Reliance Industries has raised over $25 billion for the company’s digital, telecom and retail businesses from investors like KKR, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, General Atlantic and more. <h2>Reliance <keyword id="6059106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-ipo" source="Orion">Jio IPO</keyword> to be India’s biggest</h2>Existing rules state that companies that are valued at ₹1 lakh crore or more need to sell at least 5% of total shares during an IPO. Jio is currently valued at $112 billion (₹9.42 lakh crore) as per Jefferies. A 5% stake sale would put the IPO at around ₹47,100 crore, beating the recently concluded IPO of Hyundai Motor India, which raised ₹27,870.16 crore. <h2>Retail IPO further away</h2>While no timeline has been mentioned, the retail arm’s IPO has reportedly been pushed further away, as the company feels it needs to address internal business and operational challenges. Not only this, the company reportedly wants to avoid two big IPOs hitting the Dalal street in the same year. With Jio’s IPO planned for 2025, we might see the retail arm going public in 2026 or later. Reliance Retail operates over 3,000 supermarkets and also deals in the e-commerce segment. The company feels the retail arm has grown “too fast” and needs some stability before the IPO. Reliance Jio lost around 10.9 million subscribers in the quarter to reach 479 million subscribers whereas Vi lost 5.1 million subscribers in this quarter mainly in the 2G segment to reach 205 million subscribers. This quarter also saw increased porting to the government-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), from private operators as tariffs were not raised by the telco. The report says SIM consolidation is expected to be largely over by the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal. It adds that besides tariff hikes, ARPU for the sector will continue to grow also led by subscribers moving from 2G to 4G and growth in post-paid subscribers. About the revival of Vi, the report says the government now has a 24% equity stake in the telco. The company is in discussion with banks to raise debt capital of ₹250 billion for its capex plans of ₹500-550 billion over the next 3 years to improve its network capacity. Telcos report a rise in ARPU after tariff hike, lose subscribers

New Delhi: <keyword id="24017188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dubai-based-siblings" source="keywords">Dubai-based siblings</keyword> Jainam and Jivika, the owners of <keyword id="23661436" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jiohotstar" source="keywords">jiohotstar</keyword>.com domain, have decided to transfer it to Reliance "free of cost", resting speculations on social media platforms. The story of the <keyword id="24017189" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="internet-domain-name" source="keywords">internet domain name</keyword>, which grabbed a lot of attention on social media platforms in the recent past, ended with "seva and kindness", according to the duo. The unique website ID was said to have been initially registered by a Delhi-based app developer last year amid speculation about the potential merger of <keyword id="19896911" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio" source="keywords">Reliance Jio</keyword> and <keyword id="20445926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disney-Hotstar" source="keywords">Disney Hotstar</keyword>. Last month, the developer came up with the demand for funding his higher studies at the Cambridge University in return of the domain's ownership transfer, days after Reliance Jio and The Walth Disney formally announced the merger of their media businesses. Later, the Dubai-based siblings purchased jiohotstar.com domain from its registered owner. According to industry observers, the domain was sold to Dubai-based siblings after Reliance declined his offer. The siblings now shared an update, saying the Reliance IP Legal team approached them and the duo has decided to pass the ownership to them (Reliance), hoping that it would be "useful for them". "Reliance IP legal team has approached us, and we will be transferring this domain to them, free of cost," they said in a message on the website. "There have been some rumours online suggesting that there is a payment or deal involved, but we want to make it clear -- this is not true," the message said. Moreover, the duo in his video also clarified there is "no pressure from anyone" and denied of having a "deal of any kind". "This is purely a transfer of the domain from our side because we believe it could be useful for them. Whether or not they choose to use it is up to them," the message added. PTI reached out to Reliance for its comment on the development but did not receive any response. In their previous message, the siblings said they had received numerous offers, including some genuine ones offering significant amounts. However, they had said that the domain was not for sale. While announcing the "journey with jiohotstar.com is coming to an end", the duo said they are waiting for a draft from the Reliance legal team for the transfer. "The Reliance IP legal team has contacted us. We have told them that the <keyword id="24017190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domain-transfer" source="keywords">domain transfer</keyword> will only happen after the agreement is signed. They have asked us to visit Mumbai to sign the agreement," they said, expecting the agreement to be signed soon. "As soon as this happens, we will transfer the domain and this website will come to an end," the message said. Reliance had last week announced completion of the merger of its media assets with the India business of global media giant The Walt Disney, forming a <keyword id="19967298" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="joint-venture" source="keywords">joint venture</keyword> worth around Rs 70,352 crore (USD 8.5 billion). According to the report, iPhone shipments grew about 39 per cent to 9.2 million units last year. "In CY23, India represented 4 per cent of iPhones shipments and revenue, up from 3 per cent in CY22 and 1 per cent 5 years ago," said analysts in the report. "If India continues to grow at the same trajectory while China iPhone shipments stay flat, India would be a bigger iPhone market than China by 2027," it added. TechCrunch was first to report on Apple India's 2023 revenue. Apple registered strong double-digit growth in the December quarter in India, reaching another quarter revenue record in the country, company's CEO <keyword id="19954680" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tim-cook" source="keywords">Tim Cook</keyword> said earlier this month. Responding to an analyst's questions, <keyword id="19905938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cook" source="keywords">Cook</keyword> said that the India market "hit a quarter revenue record". India's smartphone shipments remained flat in 2023 at 152 million units, but Apple reached the 10-million-unit mark in shipments and captured the top position in revenue in a calendar year for the first time. In a bid to further boost mobile manufacturing in the country, the government in January slashed import duty on parts used for manufacturing of mobile phones to 10 per cent from 15 per cent. The move will help companies like Apple to manufacture more of its high-end premium smartphones in the country. Its revenue from operations for Q4FY24 came in at Rs 25,959 crore, up 11 per cent over the year-ago period. The net profit was pegged at Rs 5,337 crore for just-ended quarter, up from Rs 4,716 crore in the fourth quarter of FY23, which translated into a 13.16 per cent increase. According to a BSE filing by the company, for the full FY24, the net profit stood at Rs 20,466 crore, which was 12.4 per cent higher than that of FY23. The revenue for full fiscal ended March 2024 was Rs 1,00,119 crore, up 10.2 per cent over the preceding fiscal. Reliance Jio Q4 net profit rises over 13% to ₹5,337 crore

The telecom sector’s AGR is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) at 12% between FY23-FY26. And, Bharti Airtel is expected to add more market share, say analysts. “Bharti’s AGR market share is likely to jump 125 basis points in the same period (FY23-FY26) to 37.5%, and RJio’s by 110 basis points to 42.5%,” said a research report by ICICI Securities. The signs are already visible from Q1FY24 performance of Airtel, as its AGR market share went up by 80 basis points. “Bharti's strong market share gains in B and C circles indicates traction on its rural expansion strategy,” said Jefferies as it expects sector revenues to grow at 11% CAGR over FY23-26 with market share gains for Bharti/Jio. Vodafone Idea’s market share has already declined to an all-time low in Q1, and market share losses could accelerate further, says Jefferies as 5G becomes mainstream. The company has been unable to start rolling out 5G due to its heavy debt, unlike its peers who have aggressively rolling it out. The era of tariff hikes The industry AGR recorded an 8% growth in Q1 even as the sector has not seen any tariff hikes in the last 12 months. This was driven by subscriber additions, data monetisation and premiumisation – conversion from 2G to 4G and from prepaid to postpaid. Going ahead, this trend will only add to AGR as well as ARPU growth. The average revenue per user (ARPU) is also expected to grow at a healthy pace of 10% over the next three years, estimates ICICI Securities. Moreover, there are tariff hikes to come. “We believe India wireless business tariff hikes are likely to be more frequent, going forward, given the consolidated industry structure and higher ARPU requirement to justify significant capex for 5G rollout,” said a report by J M Financial. In the last three years, the sector took two tariff hikes in December 2019 by around 25%, and another in December 2021 by around 15%. The companies were affected by the first tariff hike due to SIM consolidation, but the second hike smoothly flew into the AGR. ICICI Securities too expects another tariff hike in FY25 which is expected to be at around 10%. But this is not the only factor that can contribute to ARPU growth. Over 6% CAGR growth is expected to come from premiumisation and data monetisation. “Nonetheless, industry AGR performance in the past few quarters has shown organic growth (defined as AGR growth without tariff hike) can potentially sustain at much higher levels if operators execute better data monetisation,” ICICI Securities said. And when tariff hikes happen, it will only add to market share gains to Airtel. “Bharti is the biggest beneficiary of higher tariffs given the sticky and premium quality of its subscribers, ensuring that tariff hikes flow through to ARPU,” says J M Financial. On a yearly basis, its profit grew by 13%. Its revenue from operations for the quarter also grew 1.7% sequentially to ₹23,394 crore as compared to ₹22,998 crore in the previous quarter. The company attributed the annual growth in revenue from operations to the full impact of tariff hike, ramp-up of wireline services and continued subscriber addition for mobility services. Mobile phone users might have to spend notably more for their recharge packs after the general election, as reports indicate that telecom firms are gearing up for a fourth round of <keyword id="891186" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tariff-hikes" source="Orion">tariff hikes</keyword> in recent times. According to a report by brokerage Axis Capital, a meaningful hike of approximately 25% by operators is anticipated soon. This surge is attributed to a stable competitive environment, the necessity to bolster profitability post heavy <keyword id="21245910" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-investments" source="keywords">5G investments</keyword>, and ongoing government support. Despite the apparent magnitude of the increase, the report suggests it should be manageable for both urban and rural users. Urban households may witness a rise in telecom expenditure from 3.2% to 3.6% of total expenditure, while for rural subscribers, spending could escalate from 5.2% to 5.9%. Analysts predict that the consumers are likely to remain loyal and pay up, especially if they continue to enjoy high-speed connectivity — a vital need of these modern times. This hike is expected to be driven by price increases for 4G/5G bundled packs and the phasing out of low-value packs. Analysts expect Jio to lead in terms of revenue growth at 13.6% year-on-year, followed closely by Airtel at 12.9%. Vodafone Idea is expected to come in third at 2.6%. For context, Airtel and Jio had 5G coverage in 66 and 70 cities respectively in December 2022. “We expect their capex to remain elevated in 4QFY23 and may increase further from previous quarters,” Motilal Oswal said. While Jio targets pan-India 5G coverage by December 2023, Airtel is aiming to cover all major cities by the end of March 2023. All in all, Jio’s capex outlay for 5G rollout, including spectrum costs, is ₹2 lakh crore. Airtel, on the other hand, has an outlay of ₹75,000 crore. With the pace of rollout expected to increase from here on, the capex is expected to increase at the same pace. Vodafone Idea’s 5G rollout will depend on its fundraising, the details of which are unclear at the moment. Analysts at ICICI Securities expect Airtel to call for the second tranche of payment for its ₹21,000 crore rights issue to fund its 5G capex – the telco had announced it back in October 2021.
