JioCinema launches new annual ad-free subscription plan at a discount

<keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> will represent around 39 per cent of mobile subscriptions at the end of 2027 in India, where the 5G deployments are yet to begin, with about 500 million subscriptions, a report said on Tuesday. According to the latest edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, 4G subscriptions are forecast to decline annually to an estimated 700 million subscriptions in 2027 as subscribers migrate to 5G post introduction of 5G in India. "The latest Ericsson Mobility Report confirms 5G as the fastest growing mobile technology generation ever, and Ericsson is playing a key role in making it happen," Fredrik Jejdling, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks, Ericsson, said in a statement. "We work every day with our customers and ecosystem partners around the world to ensure that millions more people, enterprises, industries, and societies enjoy the benefits of 5G connectivity as soon as possible," Jejdling added. In global terms, 5G is forecast to account for almost half of all subscriptions by 2027, topping 4.4 billion subscriptions. The report highlights that North America is forecast to lead the world in 5G subscription penetration in the next five years with nine-of-every-10 subscriptions in the region expected to be 5G by 2027. It also predicted that current global <keyword id="7746716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g-subscriptions" source="Orion">5G subscriptions</keyword> will pass the one billion milestone by the end of 2022. The 2027-timeline also includes projections that 5G will account for 82 per cent of subscriptions in Western Europe; 80 per cent in the Gulf Cooperation Council region; and 74 per cent in North East Asia. 5G will represent nearly 40% of mobile subscriptions by 2027

New Delhi, With the start of the World Cup cricket tournament, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have rolled out plans to woo cricket fans. Reliance Jio has started offering multiple prepaid plans bundled with Disney+ Hotstar where users will be able to watch World Cup cricket matches. Bharti Airtel has launched two plans, which include unlimited data for 2 days against a payment of Rs 99 and 6GB of additional data with 1-day validity for Rs 49. On the other hand, Jio has rolled out monthly, quarterly and annual plans bundled with data, unlimited voice, and subscription to Disney+ Hotstar mobile. Jio's basic plan is priced at Rs 328 and comes with 1.5 GB high-speed data per day for 28 days and a 3-month Disney+ Hotstar mobile subscription. In addition, Jio has also introduced a Rs 758 plan, which offers 1.5 GB of high-speed data per day for 84 days and comes with a 3-month Disney+ Hotstar mobile subscription. Similarly, plans priced at Rs 388 and Rs 808 offer 2 GB of high-speed data per day for 28 and 84 days, respectively, and come with 3 months of Disney+ Hotstar mobile subscription. In addition, the 84-day Rs 598 plan and the annual Rs 3,178 plan offer users one year of Disney+ Hotstar mobile subscription and 2GB high-speed data per day. With the Disney+ Hotstar bundled plans, Jio users will also get access to Disney+ Hotstar's library of specials, and national and international content, as per the company's website.

Here are Airtel and Jio's Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plans

Sunil Mittal-led telecom company <keyword id="6354287" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharti-airtel" source="Orion">Bharti Airtel</keyword> onboarded 10.37 lakh mobile subscribers in March, raising its subscriber base to 37.09 crores in March against 36.98 crores in February. Reliance Jio added 30.5 lakh subscribers in March, as its subscriber count exceeded 43 crore, compared to 42.71 crore in February. It is pertinent to mention that in February too, Reliance Jio had added the maximum number of mobile subscribers (at about 10 lakh) among telcos, while <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> had gained 9.82 lakh mobile users during February. A look at March data released by TRAI showed that Vodafone Idea -- which trails Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in the mobile market subscriber tally -- lost 12.12 lakh mobile users in March. Vodafone Idea's mobile subscriber base shrunk to 23.67 crore in March, from 23.79 crore in the previous month. Overall, the broadband subscribers' tally rose by 0.86 per cent month-on-month. "... the total broadband subscribers increased from 839.33 million at the end of February-23 to 846.57 million at the end of March-23 with a monthly growth rate of 0.86 per cent," a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) release said. Top five service providers constituted 98.37 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of March 2023, including Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (43.85 crore), Bharti Airtel (24.19 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.48 crore). Overall, the number of total telephone subscribers in India increased to 1,172.84 million (117.2 crore) at the end of March 2023, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.21 per cent. "Urban telephone subscription increased from 652.16 million at the end of February-23 to 653.71 million at the end of March-23 and the rural subscription also increased from 517.77 million to 518.63 million during the same period. "The monthly growth rates of urban and rural telephone subscription were 0.24 per cent and 0.17 per cent respectively during the month of March-23," TRAI said. Overall teledensity in India increased to 84.51 per cent at the end of March 2023. "The Urban Tele-density increased from 133.70 per cent at the end of February-23 to 133.81 per cent at the end of March-23 and rural tele-density also increased from 57.63 per cent to 57.71 per cent during the same period," it said. Jio announces two new plans with Disney+ Hotstar, up to 3GB data per day

<ul><li>Yesterday, India's IT Minister tweeted that the country's data plans continue to be the cheapest in the world despite a hike in tariffs by telecom operators.</li><li>Data shows while India will continue to have one of the least expensive data costs in the world — it will no longer be the cheapest.</li><li>Kyrgyzstan now has the lowest cost per GB in the world at $0.27.</li></ul>India's mobile tariffs are no longer the cheapest in the world after an almost 40% hike in subscription rates by the country's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/reliance-jio-may-still-have-the-cheapest-plan-on-offer-as-airtel-and-vodafone-idea-have-a-lead-on-telecom-tariffs/articleshow/72335722.cms">leading telecom operators</a> — Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio — despite IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's assurances.

 Before the hike in prices, the average cost per 1GB of data in India was $0.26, according to <a href="https://www.cable.co.uk/mobiles/worldwide-data-pricing/">cable.co.uk</a>. Accounting for a 40% increase, the cost will now lie at around $0.36 per GB — making India's data consumption more expensive than Kyrgyzstan. As per Business Insider's calculations, even if the increase is limited to 30%, as <a href="https://m.economictimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-news/reliance-jio-plans-could-be-20-cheaper-than-other-telcos-report/amp_articleshow/72335807.cms">some plans claim</a>, the cost will be at $0.33 per GB — above Kyrgyzstan's rock-bottom prices of $0.27.

And, in China — one of India's neighbors — 1GB costs $9.89 on an average. Data in developed nations like the United States and Canada costs in excess of $12 per GB. Zimbabwe telcos charge $75.50 for 1GB on an average, making its data the most expensive in the world.
