Reliance Jio launches JioMeet app to take on Zoom

<ul><li><keyword id="6354504" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>'s broadband service, Jio Fiber, is scheduled to launch today.</li><li>It is reportedly going to launch bundled with Jio's gaming service, <keyword id="7995976" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-console">Jio Console</keyword>.</li><li>The Jio Console will be in competition with <keyword id="7446305" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-stadia">Google Stadia</keyword> with claims to give users a ‘zero latency’ gaming experience.</li><li>With Stadia pegged to launch in 2020, Jio will have the first mover advantage.</li></ul>Stadia is a game streaming service that Google has been working on for at least three years. But before it even had a chance to launch, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio is ready to offer an Indian alternative — the Jio Console. Jio Console is going to be a part of the company's new broadband service, Jio Fiber that scheduled to launch today on 5 September 2019. It also comes bundled with a whole host of other features like subscriptions to select OTT services and 600 cable TV channels. The one key difference Stadia doesn’t need an additional computer hardware to work but Jio Console users are going to need the company’s set top box that comes with an integrated graphics card. Stadia just needs any device to have internet and be compatible with Chrome in order to function. This could have worked in Google’s favour but then again, it’s a not a pocket pinching compromise. Jio’s <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/details-of-jio-fibre-new-tariff-plan/articleshow/70639942.cms">GigaFiber plans</a> — which come coupled with the set top box — start at a mere ₹700 per month with a minimum speed of 100Mbps up for grabs. Claims of zero-latency Both, Google Stadio and Jio Console claim to provide an experience with zero latency — no delays. For serious gamers, this is probably the most enticing part of the formula. Zero latency means no lags between frames, better reaction times, and a higher chance of success against players who are stuck on a network with high latency. It may not seem like much but for racing and shooter games, where timing is key, but it can make the difference between winning or losing at a crucial moment. Despite the claims by both companies, they are yet to prove 100% seamless gameplay with accurate tests. Filling in the blanks There isn’t too much that has been disclosed by either company when it comes to their gaming platforms. They both claim that any controller can be used with their respective platforms. Nonetheless, Google still plans on launching its own controller, which will come equipped with the Google Assistant and claims to reduce latency even further. Both platforms are also claiming that they will be able to stream content in 4K quality, with Google planning to upgrade to an 8K resolution in the future. But, Stadia’s main impetus lies in the fact that users won’t have to download any content in order to play a game. Jio, on the other hand, has made no declarations of the kind. Not yet, anyway. New Delhi, Jun 3 () Facebook will acquire 9.9 per cent stake in Jio Platforms announced last month via a new entity -- Jaadhu Holdings LLC, as per regulatory documents. In April, Facebook had announced an investment of USD 5.7 billion (Rs 43,574 crore) in Jio Platforms. According to a submission made to the Competition Commission of India, Jaadhu Holdings, LLC is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Facebook, Inc. "Jaadhu is a newly incorporated company formed in March 2020 under the laws of the State of Delaware, US...Jaadhu is not engaged in any business in India or anywhere in the world," it said. The notification form is being filed in relation to Jaadhu's proposed acquisition of a minority, the non-controlling shareholding of approximately 9.99 per cent of the fully diluted equity share capital in Jio Platforms, it added. Simultaneously, Jio Platforms, WhatsApp Inc, and Reliance Retail Ltd (RRL) are proposing to enter into a separate commercial arrangement, it added. JioMart - a new RRL commerce marketplace which connects customers with Kirana stores and other small and microlocal Indian businesses - plans to integrate certain WhatsApp services with JioMart. The submission noted that the proposed transaction does not alter the competitive landscape in any potential market, and that Facebook and Jio Platforms will continue to operate independently. "The proposed transaction and the proposed commercial arrangement are pro-competitive, beneficial for consumers, Kirana stores and other small and micro local Indian businesses, and takes forward the vision of digital India," it added. The USD 5.7 billion (Rs 43,574 crore) deal -- the single largest FDI in the technology sector in India -- was announced in April. The US social-networking major had set up a separate entity Jaadhu Holdings LLC for making the investment. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved "acquisition of 9.99 per cent stake in Jio Platforms by Jaadhu Holdings LLC", according to a tweet. Jaadhu is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Facebook and formed in March under the laws of the state of Delaware, US. The Facebook group offers various products and services that help people connect to their friends and family, find communities, and grow businesses, the CCI said in a release. The deal would bring together JioMart, the e-commerce venture of Asia's richest man Ambani, and Facebook's WhatsApp platform to connect consumers with neighbourhood kirana stores. WhatsApp has over 400 million users in India while Jio has more than 388 million phone subscribers. Facebook has about 250 million users in India. Jio Platforms owns and operates digital applications and holds controlling investments in certain technology-related entities. Jio Fiber's new tariff plans include high speed internet, free television, and unlimited international calling

New Delhi, Jul 16 () Google and Facebook taking minority stakes in Jio Platforms indicate that both have non-overlapping commercial arrangements with the company, are focused on non-competing partnerships and see value and opportunities to co-exist, according to a report. Google and Facebook are competitors in India with both controlling around 80 per cent of the digital ad market in the country, and the two also compete in other markets like cloud and payments, said BofA Securities. "Both taking minority interest in JPL (Jio Platforms) indicate both have non-overlapping commercial arrangements with Jio, both are focused on non-competing partnerships and both see value and opportunities to co-exist," it said in a report. It is now less likely for Google to buy a stake in a competitor, it said, while pointing to past reports which had suggested that the US tech giant could be eyeing a stake in another telecom operator. Google will invest Rs 33,737 crore to buy a 7.7 per cent stake in Reliance Industries' technology venture, Jio Platforms, adding to a series of investments from marquee investors since April. The investment by Google pegs Jio Platforms at an equity value of Rs 4.36 lakh crore. With this, the total investment from financial and strategic investors into Jio Platforms stands at Rs 1,52,056 crore. Alphabet Inc joined Facebook, which opened the investment cycle in Jio Platforms by picking up 9.99 per cent stake for Rs 43,573.62 crore, as well as chipmaker Intel Corp and Qualcomm Inc. Pointing to nuances of the partnerships -- Google's focus on phones and Facebook's on social media/commerce -- the BofA report of July 15 said "balancing the interests of both companies will likely have some complications for Jio, both want access to users in India for their services, with a friendly gatekeeper." In another report, Credit Suisse noted that Jio will introduce entry-level 4G smartphones to upgrade 2G customers and added that the Google partnership will be leveraged to design an operating system for these smartphones. "These new smartphones should help accelerate the conversion of these 2G users to Jio users. In our view, while these users have lower ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), the same users can be monetised through advertisements, etc. which increases overall profitability of these users," the Credit Suisse note said. According to Ookla's 'Speedtest Intelligence' report, telecom operators have been testing their networks and they witnessed a wide range of 5G download speeds -- from low double-digit (16.27 Mbps) to 809.94 Mbps. "This data points to the fact that the operators are still recalibrating their networks. The speeds are expected to be more stable moving forward as these networks will enter the commercial stage," the report mentioned. Ookla compared median 5G download speeds across four cities where both <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> and <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> have built their networks. In Delhi, Airtel reached nearly 200 Mbps median download speed at 197.98 Mbps while Jio almost broke 600 Mbps (598.58 Mbps). In Kolkata, operators' median download speeds varied the most since June. Airtel's median download speed was 33.83 Mbps while Jio had faster median download speed at 482.02 Mbps. In Mumbai, Airtel's has reached 271.07 Mbps median download speed compared to Jio's 515.38 Mbps median download since June. In Varanasi, Jio and Airtel achieved closer parity, with Airtel achieving a 5G median download speed at 516.57 Mbps to Jio's 485.22 Mbps median download speed since June 2022. Bharti Airtel has launched their 5G services in eight cities and Jio's 5G beta trial "Jio True 5G for All" is now available with select users in four cities a" Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi. As per Ookla's recent consumer survey, 89 per cent of Indian smartphone users are ready to upgrade to 5G. "The new 5G results show that 5G speeds are far superior than India's existing network. While we need to approach these early results with caution, 5G devices are already showing they can achieve much faster speeds, at least under artificial controlled testing circumstances e.g., no network congestion and ideal network coverage," the report noted. According to the Speedtest Global Index, India ranked 117th in the world for mobile download speed at 13.52 Mbps in August. Hyderabad is where all operators have seen significant growth in terms of 5G-capable devices, with Jio even tripling its install base.
