In a written address to the annual convention of the <keyword id="20163832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="society-of-indian-automobile" source="keywords">Society of Indian Automobile</keyword> Manufacturers (SIAM), Modi said the automotive industry will drive even higher economic growth and in turn, thrive on demand growth. "As we shift gears towards our collective goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, I am confident that organisations like SIAM will continue to bring together all stakeholders and become a force multiplier in this mission," he said. The prime minister said the road ahead demands that the country's progress is rapid, while also being sustainable. "Working (on) greener and cleaner mobility is a vital step in this direction. It is important that this climate-conscious and sustainable vision resonates with domestic and international partners," he asserted. "Further, at this critical juncture for India and the world, it is essential that our automobile sector set not only an example for others to follow, but also work towards bringing global best practices to India. I am confident that the discussions and deliberations during the Annual Convention will serve as a catalyst for this," he added. He further said, "Through innovation and enterprise, I am sure that the automotive industry will drive even higher economic growth and in turn, thrive on the demand growth that inevitably creates." He said over the last decade, India's automotive sector has witnessed tremendous and unprecedented growth. "This is as much a testament to our nation's expanding economic growth, as it is to the pivotal role played by the automotive industry," Modi said. The success story of Indian mobility is noteworthy. The nation is witnessing the creation of future-ready infrastructure, such as state-of-the-art expressways, high-speed railways and other forms of multi-modal connectivity that reaches every corner, the prime minister noted. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Priya Bajaj and Darshan Shah left India to move to the US a few years ago.</li><li>Despite some initial adjustments, they say corporate America provided a work-life balance they didn't have before.</li></ul>When Priya Bajaj received an offer to transfer from <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google">Google</a> in India to the US, she thought she would try it out for six months — she didn't expect to be here seven years later."I had no reason to move here because my whole family, everyone was back in India," Bajaj said. "And I was also dating him," she said about her now-husband.Bajaj's husband, Darshan Shah, worked as a Sony Pictures producer in Mumbai when she received the offer. He said he was happy with his life in India so the two agreed to do <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dating-long-distance-relationship-online-success-married-switzerland-2024-7">long distance</a> while she tried out the new job.Bajaj first landed in the US in January 2017 and said she didn't adjust until about a year later. At that point, she and Shah got married, and she convinced him to join her in the US.<h2 id="612eb124-665d-47fe-baca-f3820f7bbf8d">Corporate America was a cultural shock</h2>When they <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-woman-moved-us-shares-what-surprised-her-2024-7">first moved to the US,</a> Bajaj and Shah struggled with adapting to living together, going through the immigration process, and finding stable work.After relocating, Shah searched for a video production role in the media and entertainment industry but found the market for those jobs difficult without local contacts. He ultimately shifted his focus to video content production and marketing in tech and worked at a couple of startups. He then took a contract role at Google before landing a job at Indeed.Bajaj said Shah had to adjust to the interview process. She said interviews in India focus on past experience, while in the US, you are expected to sell yourself and talk about what you can bring to the table.Even though Bajaj had a job secured, she also struggled when she first moved."The first six, seven months were not that easy," Bajaj said, adding that from a cultural perspective "working here was very, very difficult."Bajaj and Shah both felt that took time to grasp the cultural nuances of corporate America. In India, she said work place was very much a "community" where her coworkers were her best friends. Bajaj and Shah said they both had to learn the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-to-colorado-mountains-mistake-left-2024-3">boundaries of professionalism in the US</a>.<h2 id="965978c3-8cd9-4e7f-9a82-a0b20e4b5c6c">The lifestyle of a 9-5 opened up opportunities for them</h2>Despite the initial struggle, Bajaj said once she adjusted, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-to-us-from-india-big-tech-changed-me-2024-7">she wanted to stay in the US and see where her career could go.</a>Bajaj said that in India, people tend to go above and beyond and the general instinct in the workplace is to always say yes, especially for those early in their career. Many Indians who work corporate jobs also have cooking and cleaning staff to help with basic house tasks, which also allows them to work longer hours, she said."You can do 18 hours of work in India because all you are doing is working," Bajaj said. "Your chores are taken care of, your food is ready. You don't have to take care of any, cleaning, cooking groceries."Bajaj and Shah said they now have <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-working-in-bengaluru-the-silicon-valley-of-india-2023-7">more control of their time.</a> Shah was able to focus more on his health because he had more time outside of work and Bajaj has the opportunity to do things like be on a board, speak at an event, and create content.<h2 id="6bf2fea9-6951-4236-b575-98d942c4cb5d">Moving means starting over again — and it's not for everyone</h2>Bajaj and Shah's move to the US opened up opportunities for them outside their full-time jobs. Bajaj and Shah used their free time to start a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.itsokyaar.com/">platform</a> for South Asian immigrants called It's Ok Yaar, which means "It's okay, friend.""We're hustlers," Bajaj said. "We like to do a lot of things other than our full time jobs."Bajaj said if she hadn't had an opportunity in the US, she may have tried out another country. She and Shah enjoy being pushed out of their comfort zones.But moving to the US isn't for everyone.Bajaj warns that navigating the job market requires networking and being able to handle rejections. Bajaj said that if you already have a comfortable life and "made it" in your home country, you should ask yourself if you're ready to start all over again.

Google Wallet launched in India – store your loyalty cards, boarding passes and more

Mobile data plans have become more affordable and mobile connectivity is improving globally,” Google wrote. Having launched in India, Google took this project to various other countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Mexico among others. “The challenge of varying technical requirements and infrastructure among our partners across countries has also made it difficult for Station to scale and be sustainable, especially for our partners,” the company wrote in the blogpost. Google believes that it will be fruitful to put its time and effort in building products for the next billion users. There have been several initiatives across the country to provide free WiFi to users, over the years. Recently, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had announced a Free WiFi project in Delhi. In 2018, Kerala had rolled out a project with CISCO to make way for a thousand free WiFi spots across the state. Google for India goes heavy on AI — From reading handwritten prescriptions to enhancing agricultural capabilities, here’s all you need to know

New Delhi, Feb 17 () Tech giant Google on Monday said it has decided to wind down its 'Station' programme globally through 2020, including in India, given that going online has become much easier and cheaper over the last five years. The US-based company said it is working with its partners to transition existing sites so they can remain useful resources for the community. Google had launched 'Station' in India in 2015 in partnership with Indian Railways and Railtel to bring fast, free public WiFi to over 400 railway stations in the country by mid-2020. "But we crossed that number by June 2018 and implemented Station in thousands of other locations around the country in partnership with telecommunications companies, ISPs and local authorities. Over time, partners in other countries asked for Station too and we responded accordingly," Google Vice President (Payments and Next Billion Users) Caesar Sengupta said in a blogpost. He added that since then, getting online has become much simpler and cheaper and that mobile data plans have become more affordable and mobile connectivity is improving globally. Apart from India, Station is available in Nigeria, Thailand, Philippines, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil and South Africa. Sengupta cited the example of India, where mobile data per GB is among the cheapest in the world. He cited reports that state mobile data prices have reduced by 95 per cent in the last 5 years and Indian users consume close to 10 GB of data, each month on an average. "And similar to what the Indian government did, several governments and local entities have kicked off their own initiatives to provide easier, cost-effective access to the internet for everyone. In addition to this changed context, the challenge of varying technical requirements and infrastructure among our partners across countries has also made it difficult for Station to scale and be sustainable, especially for our partners," Sengupta noted. He added that the company sees greater need and bigger opportunities in making products and features tailored to work better for the next billion user markets. "Therefore, we've made the decision to gradually wind down the Station programme globally, through 2020. We are working with our partners to transition existing sites so they can remain useful resources for the community," he said. Under its Next Billion Users initiative, Google has built lite apps (YouTube Go, Google Go and more), offline features (such as YouTube and Maps Offline), as well as country-specific products like Tez (now Google Pay India) and platforms like Android Go to bring lower-cost devices to customers.
