<ul><li>The Indian PC market recorded its second-best quarter with a shipment of 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024.</li><li>The growth in part is due to the online festival sales by e-commerce giants and retailers.</li><li>HP continues to lead the Indian PC market with a share of over 29%.</li></ul> The Indian personal computer or PC market has recorded its second highest-ever shipments at 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024, recording a 0.1% growth year-on-year. According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the growth in sales was recorded due to online festival sales which began early this year. “The e-tail sales, which typically start around the second week of October, began in late September, leading to a surge in PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India &amp; South Asia. In Q3 2024, desktops recorded an 8.1% year-on-year decline, notebooks recorded a 2.8% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 2.4% year-on-year growth. Premium notebooks priced above $1,000 recorded a 7.6% year-on-year growth. “Brands capitalized on e-tail sales by offering steep discounts, cashback, and bundled accessories. Many of them also matched similar pricing in their brand stores and offline channels like Larger Format Retail stores (LFRs), leading to the second biggest consumer quarter in history,” Shenoy added. Lenovo is second with a market share of 17.3% in Q3 2024, up from 17% in Q3 2023. Dell has maintained its market share at 14.6%. Acer has recorded good growth, with its market share rising from 11.6% in Q3 2023 to 14.6% in Q3 2024. Asus on the other hand reported a decline from 12.5% in Q3 2023 to 9.7% in Q3 2024. “The Commercial PC Market in India is on the recovery path as enterprises have slowly started refreshing their IT devices. India’s PC market reaches new high with 4.49 million shipments in Q3 2024

<ul><li>The Indian wearable market has declined for the second consecutive quarter.</li><li>The smartwatch segment has recorded a huge decline in shipments in Q3 2024.</li><li>The earwear segment has also declined, while the smart ring segment remains strong.</li></ul>The <keyword id="22725790" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-wearables-market" source="keywords">Indian wearables market</keyword> has declined for the second consecutive quarter, recording a 20.7% year-on-year decline in shipments in Q3 2024. There was a 10% decline in shipments in Q2 2024. According to a report by the International Data Corporation, 38 million devices were shipped in the country’s wearables market in Q3 2024. The decline is being attributed to a reduction in new product launches and a cautious inventory strategy. <h2>Smartwatch shipments decline</h2>The smartwatch category recorded a decline of 44.8% as shipments declined from 16.92 million devices in Q3 2023 to 9.34 million in Q3 2024. Not just the basic smartwatches, the shipments of premium smartwatches also declined by 39.9% year-on-year. The Smartwatch average selling price (ASP) however increased by 1.4% from $25.8 to $26.2. The wristband category, which remained strong in Q2 has also declined in Q3, recording a 48.4% year-on-year decline in shipments. The earwear category also struggled, with a 7.5% decline in shipments from 30.29 million in Q3 2023 to 28.52 in Q3 2024. <h2>The smart ring category continues to shine</h2>The smart ring market has remained strong, with 92 thousand smart rings shipped in Q3 2024. The quarter also recorded a decline in the average selling price of 16.2% to $162.1. Indian wearables market declines 20.7% in Q3 2024, smartwatch and earwear categories struggle

Indian PC market records 7.1% growth in Q2 2024, HP leads with nearly a third market share

It also added that the total number of accounts added in October fell to 3.45 million, down from 4.36 million in September 2024. Over the first half of the financial year (6MFY24), a total of 29.4 million individuals participated at least once in the cash market, compared to 30.7 million for the full FY24. However, participation in the equity derivatives segment saw a downturn. The number of individual investors trading at least once in a month on the NSE's equity derivatives segment dropped by 3.6 % in September, falling to 4.46 million from 4.66 million in August. For the first half of FY24, a total of 8.7 million individuals participated in the derivatives market, a decline from 9.6 million for the entire FY24. This decline indicates a reduced interest in derivative trading among individual investors, possibly due to increased volatility or changing market preferences. The report said, "A total of 29.4 million individuals have participated at least once in 6MFY24 vs. 30.7 million in FY24. Individual investors, who traded at least once in a month on NSE's equity derivatives segment, declined 3.6% MoM in Sep'24 to 4.46 million vs. 4.66 million in Aug'24". Worldwide tablet shipments grow by 20.4% in Q3 2024, Apple leads with over 31% market share

Nifty, Sensex rallied around 1.5 % after Maharashtra election results, Experts noted short term rally

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have been rapidly exiting Indian markets, and this high-speed exodus does not look like it will stop anytime soon. In October 2024, FIIs withdrew Rs 1,14,445.89 crores from Indian markets. Yesterday, FIIs withdrew $770.67 million from the markets, with equity outflows of $440.86 million and debt outflows standing at $327.44 million across various categories. Per NSDL data, hybrid outflows amounted to $2.31 million. While this may sound dissuading at first, a recent SBI report underlined that FIIs still hold a massive $ 18.241 billion in Indian markets. So far, FY25 has seen FII inflows worth $ 8.924 billion. However, the situation may quickly turn alarming as well, given that FII holdings in Indian equities have already come down to a 12-year low. Says Anirudh Garg, Partner and Fund Manager at Invasset PMS, "The current valuation of Indian stocks, trading at around 24 times expected earnings, appears high compared to Chinese stocks, which are at approximately 10 times. Economic concerns, including weak corporate earnings and declining consumer demand, further exacerbate this situation. Additionally, renewed fears of inflation and potential monetary tightening by central banks have led FIIs to withdraw from the Indian market." In the meantime, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) are stepping in big time. During October 2024, DIIs infused Rs 1,07,254.68 crore in Indian markets. In November so far, DIIs have been keeping the fund momentum going, infusing Rs 12,265.74 crore in India, while FIIs have offloaded Rs 16,445.49 crore this month. But despite this strong uptick, SBI's recent report suggests that consumer confidence in India remains below 100, signaling muted positivity and optimism in the economy. While household consumption is gradually recovering, it grew at 4% last year, much below the 7% levels recorded pre-pandemic. <h2>FII share in <keyword id="20868945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-listed-companies" source="keywords">NSE-listed companies</keyword> takes a dip, DII stake rise </h2>FIIs share in NSE-listed companies stood at 15.98% in October, with assets under their custody in the equity segment coming to Rs 71.08 lakh crore last month. In September, this stood at Rs 77.96 crore. Experts suggest that this is likely to continue for some time to come. Mutual funds, on the other hand, saw their share in NSE-listed companies hit a record high of 9.58%, as opposed to their 9.32% stake in September 2024. FIIs turned net sellers in the debt segment as well in October, dumping $771 million in Indian markets. This comes after 2 consecutive months of healthy inflows in this segment in August and September 2024, where the figures stood at $2,806 million and $2,295 million, respectively.

FII stake in Indian equities dips to a 12-year low

Three years after rival <keyword id="19901323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> went public, raising Rs 9,375 crores, food and grocery delivery behemoth Swiggy is set to open for subscription on the Indian bourses between November 6th and 8th, 2024. Looking to raise Rs 11,327.43 crore from the markets, Swiggy has set a price band of Rs 371 to Rs 390 per share. The company is targeting a valuation of $11.3 billion, around 25% down from its initial target of $15 billion. The issue comprises Rs 4,499 crore worth of fresh issue, with the remaining Rs 6,828.43 crore coming via <keyword id="19951016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OFS" source="keywords">OFS</keyword> (offer for sale), with stakeholders like <keyword id="20294899" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prosus" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Prosus" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Prosus">Prosus</keyword> offloading about 5.2% of their stakes, which could translate into proceeds worth $510 million. The offer will conclude on November 8, and listing is tentatively scheduled for November 13, 2024. Other stakeholders who will be participating in the OFS at the present valuation include <keyword id="20064356" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Accel" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Accel" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Accel">Accel</keyword>, which will sell around $60 million worth of their stake. Elevation Capital and Tencent's stake sale could earn them up to $30-35 million each. Swiggy's CEO <keyword id="20304807" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sriharsha-Majety" source="keywords">Sriharsha Majety</keyword> and co-founder Nandan Reddy are also expected to offload their shares. Currently, they hold 6.23% and 1.76% stakes in the company, respectively. The sale of around 0.1% stake by each is expected to earn them about $14 million in total. Notably, the company does not have any identifiable promoters, as per SEBI ICDR Regulations and the Companies Act 2013. From funds raised via IPO, the company plans to allot Rs 1,648 million for repaying borrowings made by its subsidiary, Scootsy. The app, which operated independently of Swiggy, offered <keyword id="20299302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-delivery" source="keywords">food delivery</keyword> services from a selected list of high-end bakeries and restaurants in the city. Notably, Swiggy had acquired Scootsy in 2018 at a reported valuation of Rs 50 crore. However, Swiggy's foray into the premium-food delivery segment did not pan out well, and the company decided to shut Scootsy in 2020. However, per the company's RHP (red herring prospectus), Swiggy is planning to reinvest and revive Scootsy for extending their dark store network and making lease/license payments for the same. About Rs 11,787 million would be utilised for expanding Swiggy's dark store network for its quick commerce wing, <keyword id="20255906" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Instamart" source="keywords">Instamart</keyword>. Swiggy has also allocated Rs 11,153 million for enhancing the brand's visibility and outreach. <h2>Negative cash flows from operations</h2>The company has only incurred net losses since its inception in 2014. However, the company's annual losses as a percentage of its revenue from operations has come down in the recent years. From 63.61% in 2022 to 20.90% in 2024, the losses as part of its revenue from operations further narrowed to 18.96% for the quarter ended June 30, 2024. Moreover, Scootsy is yet to receive requisite registrations and approvals for each of the dark store it intends to set up. It does not help that Scootsy has not run into greens over the past 2-3 years. The subsidiary had incurred losses worth Rs 2,953.5 million, which have burgeoned to Rs 4,239.72 million in FY24. Swiggy also lags behind its rival Zomato in terms of monthly transacting users (MTU), along with many other key financial and operational metrics. Zomato has a wider, pan-India presence, commanding a 57% <keyword id="20038792" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-share" source="keywords">market share</keyword> in FY24. Compared to this, Swiggy's market share stood at 43% during the same period. As of FY24, Swiggy's MTUs, at 12.7 million, are about 31% lower than Zomato's MTU of 18.4 million.

Mumbai: The rupee fell sharply by 15 paise against the US dollar to 83.44 in early trade on Wednesday amid muted trends in the domestic equity markets. However, a decline in the dollar index and a marginal fall in the Brent crude index prevented further losses in the domestic unit, according to experts. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 84.38 -- down 9 paise from its previous close -- and then slid further to 84.44, registering a decline of 15 paise from its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee pared its intra-day losses to settle flat at 84.29 against the US dollar. "The <keyword id="24182640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-banking-liquidity" source="keywords">Indian banking liquidity</keyword> fell into deficit as industry players paid Rs 1.6-1.8 lakh crore as GST payment. This was after two months that liquidity has fallen into a deficit as the RBI also intervened into forex markets to defend the rupee weighing on liquidity conditions," Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said. "The rupee may be in the broad range of 84.00 to 84.50 in the near term as markets await a slew of data from the US this evening," Bhansali added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.15 per cent to 106.84. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was marginally down 0.10 per cent to USD 72.74 per barrel in futures trade. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share equity benchmark Sensex was trading 46.69 points lower, or 0.06 per cent, at 79,957.57 points. <keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foreign-Institutional-Investors" source="keywords">Foreign Institutional Investors</keyword> (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Tuesday, purchasing shares worth Rs 1,157.70 crore, according to exchange data.
