New Delhi: After a wave of initial public offerings (IPOs) in recent weeks, the primary market will experience a brief slowdown, with only two new public issues scheduled for the next week, aiming to raise Rs 365 crore. There were 12 IPOs in the mainboard segment and 40 in the SME (small and medium enterprise) segment in September. IPOs scheduled for next week, beginning October 7, are <keyword id="22922418" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Construction" source="keywords">Garuda Construction</keyword> and Engineering on the main board and <keyword id="23436926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shiv-Texchem" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Shiv Texchem" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Shiv Texchem">Shiv Texchem</keyword> on the SME segment. Garuda Construction is seeking to raise Rs 264 crore, and Shiv Texchem is aiming for over Rs 101 crore through their respective IPOs available for public subscription during October 8-10. The stock market has seen a significant correction in the <keyword id="19911354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-market" source="keywords">equity market</keyword> since the start of October amid intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran. Despite the temporary slowdown, overall, the outlook for the <keyword id="19926041" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPO-market" source="keywords">IPO market</keyword> is promising, with 26 firms proposing to raise Rs 72,000 crore presently holding Sebi's approval while another 55 companies looking to garner about Rs 89,000 crore are awaiting the regulator's clearance, according to the Primedatabase. This month will see <keyword id="19908548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Motor-India" source="keywords">Hyundai Motor India</keyword> Ltd, the Indian arm of South Korean automaker Hyundai, hitting the primary market to raise around Rs 25,000 crore. The company's IPO is likely to be launched on October 14, according to sources. If the offering proceeds as planned, it will surpass Life Insurance Corporation's (LIC) public offering of Rs 21,000 crore, becoming the largest IPO in India's history. Moreover, 63 companies have already mobilised around Rs 64,000 crore via mainboard, marking a 29 per cent increase from Rs 49,436 crore collected by 57 firms through the route in 2023. The strong momentum in IPO markets is being driven by several key macroeconomic, sector-specific factors and the willingness of funds to look at new ideas. In particular, strong inflows into domestic mutual funds and robust capital formation across corporate India are playing key roles, experts said. Garuda Construction and Engineering's IPO is a mix of fresh issue of 1.83 crore equity shares and an offer of sale (OFS) of 95 lakh equity shares by promoter PKH Ventures. The price band has been fixed at Rs 92 to Rs 95 per share. About Rs 100 crore from its fresh issuance proceeds will be utilised for working capital requirements and the balance towards general corporate purposes, including unidentified inorganic acquisitions. Shiv Texchem's IPO is a completely new offering of over 61 lakh shares and is a book-built issue of Rs 101.35 crore. It has set a price band of Rs 158 to Rs 166 per equity share for the IPO. Further, the SME IPO of Khyati Global Ventures, which opened for public subscription on October 4, will close on October 8. Additionally, six companies from the SME segment are set to list in the coming week. HVAX Technologies and Saj Hotels will debut on October 7, followed by Subam Papers and Paramount Dye Tec on October 8. NeoPolitan Pizza and Foods will begin trading on October 9, with Khyati Global Ventures to follow on October 11.

The dip in fresher hiring may seem more pronounced in the IT sector, which traditionally hires the majority of new engineering entrants to the workforce. Typically, the IT sector absorbs 20-25% of the 1.5 million engineering graduates in India annually. “Companies have had to cut back on freshers' hiring due to a weak deal pipeline, recessionary fears in the US, and the need to utilise existing resources effectively,” says Krishna Vij, Business Head, TeamLease Digital, a job portal for tech freshers. According to NLB Services, a talent solutions company, the <keyword id="6374576" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="it-industry" source="Orion">IT industry</keyword> has seen a dip in the <keyword id="6441485" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="freshers-hiring" source="Orion">freshers hiring</keyword> intent from 49% in H1 2023 to 42% in H1 2024. What should you do? Uncertain economic conditions come in cycles and if you are a fresher it is just a coincidence that you trying to find your first job in the middle of one. Nothing to do with how good your skills are. But, to navigate such challenging times better, there are things you can do that increase your chances of getting hired. Acquire relevant skills through certifications In the 21st century, having a degree may not be enough. You need skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for, and proof that you have them. In addition to your regular degree, acquire one or two skills preferably through certification. There are many industry-certified courses available both online and offline. Before you enrol on any such courses, talk to your seniors or those already in a job to find out which are the skills in demand. It is essential to stay proactive and not give up. “Developing a combination of technical competencies and soft skills is crucial, alongside participation in hackathons and collaborative projects to showcase practical abilities,” says Vij. Update your profile and network Getting a job off-campus is a time-consuming process. It involves a lot of preparation and results may not be immediate. The first step is to let potential employers know that you are available for hire. “Continually update your profiles on job boards and expand your network on platforms such as LinkedIn, particularly with regards to target companies. Increase engagement and enhance visibility within the talent acquisition community,” says Kesavan. Seek out a mentor In difficult situations, sound advice always comes in handy. “Connecting with industry peers, experts and mentors can make a huge impact on one’s professional journey,” says Sachin Alug, CEO, NLB Services. Freshers must find appropriate networks that play a vital role in their learning, scope of opportunities and creating a sustainable career. From your college professor to your neighbour to your senior, you may find a good mentor if you continuously seek genuine help. Take up a part-time job If you are not getting a job consider taking up part-time gigs which are related to your field of work. Working part-time to utilise one’s time in a productive way can be a good idea for many candidates. “This not only empowers them financially but also allows them time to prepare for their full-time professions. While aspirants may choose part-time <keyword id="11018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jobs" source="Orion">jobs</keyword> as a temporary occupation, the focus must not shift from enhancing one’s skills in the direction they want to excel in,” says Alug. Finally, it is important that one maintains a positive attitude, resilience, and adaptability throughout the job search process.

Investors' main focus ended up being Disney's light forecast for streaming growth.While Disney+ added 6.3 million new subscribers in the quarter, its total number of streaming subscribers, 153.6 million, was below Wall Street estimates by about 2 million. The gems and jewellery exports grew 2.48% year-on-year to ₹3,00,462.52 crore (over $36 billion) in FY23, according to the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). Addressing the media, on the sidelines of an event here on Monday evening, the GJEPC Chairman said that the Commerce Ministry has given a target of $42 billion for the gems and jewellery segment exports in 2023-24. "For gems and jewellery, the major contributing market is the US and China, the demand is slowing there. Rising <keyword id="888190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-cost" source="Orion">interest cost</keyword>, <keyword id="22195" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="inflation" source="Orion">inflation</keyword>, all these concerns and consumers' confidence is also going down," Shah said. Going ahead, "we expect that overall we should see a 10 to 15 % decline in the gems and jewellery exports," he said on GJEPC estimates for the current fiscal ending March. Diamonds constitute more than 55% of the overall gems and jewellery export basket, Shah said. The exports target (for the current fiscal) is $42 billion, which was given by the Ministry of Commerce, he added.

<ul><li>Consumption gaps between urban and rural markets narrowed down in the December quarter, for the first time in 2023.</li><li>Modern trade saw double-digit growth in consumption, but growth in <keyword id="20479724" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="traditional-trade" source="keywords">traditional trade</keyword> slipped sequentially.</li><li>Non-food category volumes grew sequentially but that of food slowed down, led by staples and impulse categories. </li></ul>Even as FMCG sales growth has been moderating on a sequential basis, sales of noodles and biscuits saw an uptick in the rural markets in the December quarter, says a NielsenIQ report. Rural markets too saw a sequential-quarterly decline, but consumption gaps between urban and rural markets narrowed down for the first time in 2023, in the December quarter. The North and West regions contributed to this phenomenon, the report says. “Despite a sequential-quarter decline, the rural recovery narrative continued to evolve throughout the year. In Q4 2023, we observe an uptick in consumption, primarily driven by habit-forming categories (such as biscuits and noodles) in food and essential home products. These categories have thrived despite flat to negative price growth, indicating resilience and sustained demand,” said <keyword id="20476060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="roosevelt-dsouza" source="keywords">Roosevelt Dsouza</keyword>, Head of Customer Success – India, <keyword id="20475890" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="niq" source="keywords">NIQ</keyword>. The rural areas are also seeing a growing preference for larger packs, while urban markets see a persistent preference for larger packs, the report said. It says that the FMCG industry experienced a 6% growth in value, attributed to a 6.4% increase in volume. However, on a sequential basis, there is a moderation in consumption growth, it adds. The pricing growth in the overall fell to 2.7% in Q3, due to the price cuts taken across categories by FMCG majors to fight off competition. In the December quarter of last year, it was 10%, as per Nielsen data. FMCG major <keyword id="19948892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="keywords">HUL</keyword> said that in Q3, its volumes grew 2% in Q3, but its value growth fell marginally by 0.3%. Marico’s domestic volumes grew 2% during the quarter, with a flat value growth. <keyword id="20021294" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kirana" source="keywords">Kirana</keyword> continue to suffer Modern trade which consists of supermarkets, hypermarkets and such has seen a double-digit growth in consumption at 16.8%. Traditional Trade which consists of kiranas or mom-and-pop stores saw a 5.3% growth in consumption, falling from 7.5% in the Q2 of FY24. “Despite certain challenges, the positive momentum in modern trade adds a promising dimension to the overall market scenario,” Nielsen says. Non-food categories grow faster The volume growth in general is also much faster for non-food categories. Though more units were purchased in food categories compared to the same period last year, non-foods saw more large packs being purchased. The volume growth in the food sector was at 5.3% YoY, but it was at 8.7% in Q2 of FY23. This slowdown in growth is primarily due to staples (such as refined and non-refined edible oils, etc.) and impulse categories such as confectionery. In non-food categories, volumes grew at 9.6% in Q3 FY24 — higher than the 8.7% recorded in Q2. This improvement can be attributed to an increase in rural consumption growth, with a growth rate of 9.8% (vs. 6.7% in Q2), Nielsen says. “Volume growth is attributed to home care products like detergent cakes and bars, washing powder; and personal care like toilet soaps categories in rural areas,” the report said. In urban areas, the non-food sector is witnessing slower consumption growth, with a growth rate of 9.4% in Q3, slightly down from 10.4% in Q2.
