New Delhi, Dec 27 () State-run engineering firm BHEL on Friday said it has commissioned the first renovated 60 MW unit of NHPC's 180 MW Baira Siul hydro project in Himachal Pradesh.
 Baira Siul is the first hydro station of state-run hydro power giant NHPC to have been taken up for comprehensive Renovation &amp; Modernisation (R&amp;M).
 "BHEL has successfully renovated and modernised one unit of the 3x60 MW Baira Siul Hydro Power in Himachal Pradesh," a BHEL statement said.
 BHEL had won the order for R&amp;M of three units of the hydro power station located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh amidst stiff competitive bidding. 
 The R&amp;M of the other two units is under various stages of execution.
 BHEL's scope in the project comprises design, manufacture, supply, replacement and commissioning of critical parts of turbines and auxiliaries, governors, generators and control and monitoring.
 The R&amp;M of the project will result in restoration of output capacity and improvement in efficiency, in addition to leading to better plant availability and life extension of equipment.
 BHEL is also the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of these hydro units. 
 The company is currently executing hydroelectric projects of more than 6,000 MW, which includes 2,910 MW of projects within the country and 3,224 MW abroad.
 In addition, BHEL is also carrying out comprehensive R&amp;M of more than 699 MW hydro projects across the country. KKS RVK

BHEL commissions renovated 60 MW unit of NHPC's Baira Siul hydro power project in Himachal

New Delhi, Feb 10 () State-owned BHEL on Monday said it has commissioned two units of Kameng Hydroelectric Project (HEP) in Arunachal Pradesh. Kameng HEP is a run-of-the river scheme which will utilise the flow from Bichom and Tenga rivers. "Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has successfully commissioned two units of 4x150 mw Kameng Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh," the state-owned company said, adding that "this is the largest unit rating (150 mw) for hydro power generating sets in the state of Arunachal Pradesh." Being developed by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO), the greenfield hydro project is located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. BHEL's scope in the project comprises design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of four 150 mw vertical francis turbines and matching synchronous generators, transformers, control and monitoring (SCADA) system along with associated auxiliaries. The equipment have been supplied by BHEL's manufacturing units at Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur, and Bengaluru, while erection and commissioning on site was carried out by the company's power sector - eastern region division, Kolkata. BHEL commissions two hydro power generating units in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi, Country's largest power producer NTPC proposes to forge a <keyword id="6373972" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joint-venture">joint venture</keyword> with government's strategic investment fund NIIF to set up an <keyword id="2584560" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infrastructure-Investment-Trust">infrastructure investment trust</keyword> (InvIT). The proposed InvIT will help NTPC to monetise some of its <keyword id="10461945" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="operational-renewable-energy-projects">operational renewable energy projects</keyword>. Funds raised from such exercise would be used by the power producer to invest in <keyword id="10461946" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="additional-renewable-capacity">additional renewable capacity</keyword>. As per initial plan, NTPC would put the entire 1 GW of operational renewable assets and the 2 GW of RE projects in the pipeline under the trust. This will help to raise capital for expansion of renewable capacity. The power producer is also looking to expand the scope of its partnership with NIIF to foray in the power distribution business where it is bidding for privatisation of Union Territory discoms. NTPC plans to generate 25% of its power capacity from renewable sources by 2030, which will be equivalent of 32 GW of power capacity and require an investment of ₹1.60 lakh crore. InvIT route would be ideal to unlock the value of existing assets for making future investments in green projects. With a total installed capacity of 62,110 MW, <keyword id="347182" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTPC-Group">NTPC Group</keyword> has 70 power stations comprising 24 coal-based units, seven combined cycle gas/liquid fuel stations, one hydro, 13 renewables, along with 25 subsidiary and joint venture entities. NTPC looks at KV with NIIF for renewable infrastructure investment trust

Lenders to Lanco <keyword id="2993348" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Teesta-Hydro-Power">Teesta Hydro Power</keyword> would convert part of their Rs 2,400-crore loans to the company into 51% <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=equity+">equity</a> after the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reserve+Bank+of+India+">Reserve Bank of India</a> (RBI) allowed such conversions. 
 
The measure allows bankers to take steps against truant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=borrowers">borrowers</a>. The new rule would help them find buyers for stressed assets, reported the Economic Times. 
 
Lanco Teesta <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hydro+Power+">Hydro Power</a> is fully held by Lanco InfraTech. Lanco Teesta's project, cost for the 500-MW hydro power project located in <keyword id="48118" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sikkim">Sikkim</keyword>, is about Rs 3,283 crore. 
 
India's banks face a burgeoning debt burden that's often cited as a key risk to the country's financial health. 
 
A senior bank official said on the condition of anonymity: "Lenders have authorised the lead bank to start the process of acquiring a majority stake in the company and looking for a buyer." 
 
The official said: "Debt would be converted only to the extent of banks acquiring 51% shareholding," he said.

This will be the second such instance of a bank exercising its right to acquire a majority stake in an ailing company. A fortnight ago, banks had planned to take control of Electrosteel Steels, which could not repay its dues. 
 
Banks have lent the company about Rs 9,500 crore. The SDR programme by RBI allows banks to acquire a controlling 51% in a financially troubled company by converting part of its debt into equity. 
 A consortium of lenders, including some large private and public sector banks, agreed to convert part of their loans to Lanco Teesta into equity at a recent meeting. Senior executives at a large <keyword id="174493" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Commercial-Bank">commercial bank</keyword> said that close to Rs 780 crore will be converted into equity under the <keyword id="6357264" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="capital-market">capital market</keyword> regulator's formula for this. 
 
It is important to know that as per the SDR scheme, a bank can convert its debt into equity only after the project has failed to meet some critical milestones. 
 
Experts are of the opinion that stake conversion could saddle banks with assets they have no ability to manage unless these are disposed of quickly. Others say drastic measures are needed to resolve a situation that's worsening. 
 
"There has been a delay in completing project and lenders are fearing there could be a cost overrun. This has prompted lenders to act," said a senior bank executive. 
 
Banks are taking such measures to curb the sharp spike in dodgy loans. ETIG data shows that in the past two years, there has been a 158% jump in loans where borrowers have not paid dues. Gross non-performing assets stood at Rs 3.1 lakh crore in FY15 against Rs 1.85 lakh crore in FY13 for all listed banks.

Lanco lenders to acquire Teesta Hydro Power

New Delhi, Mar 11 () State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Wednesday said it has signed a pact with Cement Corporation of India (CCI) for meeting cement requirements of its 2,880-megawatt Dibang Multipurpose Project. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NHPC Chairman and Managing Director A K Singh and CCI Chairman and Managing Director B V N Prasad on Wednesday, according to a statement by NHPC. The MoU will pave the way for addressing the cement requirement for the project. CCI has proposed to install a clinker grinding unit near the project area, which, besides fulfilling the cement requirements of the project, will also generate employment opportunities in the area. KOLKATA: Ten hydro-electric projects (HEPs) of <keyword id="158865" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="NHPC-Ltd">NHPC Ltd</keyword> with an aggregate installed capacity of 8531 MW, which have been concurred by Central Electricity authority (CEA), are awaiting various other clearances such as <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="environment">Environment</keyword> &amp; Forest clearance. 
 Three of these projects are in <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword>, 3 in <keyword id="46408" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arunachal-Pradesh">Arunachal Pradesh</keyword>, 2 in Manipur, and 1 each in <keyword id="48118" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sikkim">Sikkim</keyword> and J&amp;K. These include Dibang Central (3000 MW) by NHPC in Arunachal Pradesh, Tipaimukh Central (1500 MW) by NHPC in Manipur, Pakal Dul (1000 MW) under Joint Venture in J&amp;K among others. 
 The projects would contribute up to 32.1 Billion Units of electricity per annum which would help to meet the power demand in the country.
