If that is the notion to be believed, then the softer ones are winning more than the tougher ones because that's what our results and our history tell us," he said. Bindra revealed how a meditation course, while planning to quit shooting, helped him find "love for the process" after winning the Olympic gold in 2008. "When I did win that gold medal at the Olympics, my energy was completely drained in the sense that I was physically, emotionally (and) mentally drained. It also required a period of time to just let go and then to recharge my batteries and that wasn't easy," he said. "I decided to go on a vipassana meditation course and it was interesting because I was wanting to actually leave the sport and move on to the next calling. That was my primary drive, to find my new calling." "I had to meditate for eight nine hours a day in complete silence for 10 days and all I did in that course was to think back to my sport and think back to how I loved the process of what I was doing," he said. Bindra said he was guilty of not realising his full potential since he judged himself on outcomes of tournaments. "For far too long, perhaps, I too was guilty in putting myself worth to wear my name, equating myself worth to where my name would appear on the ranking list of a sports competition and that was very silly," he said. "I became an Olympic champion, (a) world champion, I won many many championships but I failed in achieving my fullest and truest potential and now that I have a chance to look back I would attribute that failure to this lack of balance that I had in my life as an athlete. "I did not humanise my effort enough and I think that was while it helped me achieve goals it didn't help me get to my very best ability," he added.

How organisations can prepare for the workplace of tomorrow

By the end of 2022, more than 650 million COVID infections had been reported to the <keyword id="6356311" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-health-organisation" source="Orion">World Health Organisation</keyword>. With the true number likely much higher, and the tally increasing by hundreds of thousands every week, the scientific community has been focused on understanding the impact of COVID on our physical health, mental health and brain function. In the early stage of the pandemic, sleep scientists charted the costs and benefits of lockdowns on sleep patterns. The main finding was that we slept more in lockdown but the quality of our sleep was worse. Now a second wave of data is beginning to explain how becoming infected with COVID is affecting our sleep and even intruding into our dreams. The most recent meta-analysis, a review of all the currently available scientific literature, estimates that 52% of people who contract COVID suffer from sleep disturbances during the infection. The most common type of sleep disturbance reported is insomnia. People with insomnia typically find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep, and often wake up early in the mornings. Worryingly, sleep problems sometimes persist even after recovery from the infection. A study in China found that 26% of people who were admitted to hospital with COVID showed symptoms of insomnia two weeks after discharge. And a US study showed that people who had been infected with COVID were more likely than people who had never been infected to have trouble sleeping, even up to a month after a positive COVID test. Sleep difficulties and long COVID While most people recover from COVID quickly, some continue to have symptoms in the longer term. People suffering from long COVID seem very likely to face persistent sleep problems. A 2021 study surveyed more than 3,000 people with long COVID. Almost 80% of participants self-reported sleep problems, most commonly insomnia. A more recent study collected data on both sleep duration and quality using smart wristbands. Participants with long COVID slept less overall and got less deep sleep than participants who had never had COVID. Loss of deep sleep is particularly concerning, as this type of sleep reduces how tired we feel and strengthens concentration and memory. Lack of deep sleep may be partly responsible for the commonly reported "brain fog" during and after COVID. The fact COVID often interferes with sleep is also worrying because sleep helps our immune system to fight infections. Why does COVID affect our sleep? There are many reasons why a COVID infection might lead to poor sleep. One review identified physiological, psychological and environmental factors. COVID can have a direct impact on the brain, including the areas that control both wake and sleep states. We don't yet have a clear understanding of how this works, but possible mechanisms could include the virus infecting the central nervous system or affecting the brain's blood supply. Typical symptoms of COVID include fever, coughing and breathing difficulties. These are also well known to disturb sleep. Poor mental health can lead to sleep problems and vice versa. There's a strong link between catching COVID and mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety. This can be caused by worries about recovery, loneliness or social isolation. Such anxieties may make sleeping harder. Meanwhile, hospitalised COVID patients can face additional difficulties trying to sleep in busy hospital environments where sleep is often disturbed by noise, treatment and other patients. What about dreams? The International COVID-19 Sleep Study, a global research project involving sleep scientists from 14 countries, recently released its findings into dreaming. The study surveyed infected and uninfected participants about their dreams. Both groups had more dreams after the start of the pandemic than before. Intriguingly, the infected participants had more nightmares than the uninfected participants, while there was no difference between the groups before the pandemic. There's no simple explanation for why catching COVID may increase nightmares, but mental health may again play a role. Poor mental health is often accompanied by nightmares. The International COVID-19 Sleep Study team found the infected group showed more symptoms of conditions such as anxiety and depression. Getting help The close links between sleep and both mental and physical health mean that prevention and treatment of disturbed sleep have never been more important, and will require creative solutions from governments and healthcare providers. If you've had trouble sleeping during or after COVID, or are having more bad dreams than you used to, you're not alone. Both short- and long-term insomnia can often be treated with cognitive behavioural therapy (<keyword id="207775" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbt" source="Orion">CBT</keyword>) that you may be able to access through your doctor. For less severe sleep problems, the European Academy for Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia has compiled recommendations, some based on principles applied in CBT, that you can follow at home. Space-tech company Skyroot raises ₹225 cr in pre-Series C funding

"We are clear that we are helping drive a major platform shift in this new era of AI, and doing so in a dynamic, competitive environment while also facing global macroeconomic uncertainties," <keyword id="2045946" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nadella" source="Orion">Nadella</keyword> told employees. "We must maintain a leadership position in our at-scale businesses of today, generating enough yield to invest and lead in the next wave, while staying on the frontiers of both performance and efficiency," he added. Microsoft will still offer salaried employees bonuses and stock awards, according to the report. Senior leadership team, including Nadella, will not get salary increases and receive only lower annual performance-based bonuses. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced to lay off 10,000 employees across the company. In January, Nadella announced that the company will be "making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3 (third quarter)". Microsoft had more than 220,000 employees, and layoffs affected around 5 per cent of its workforce. Microsoft to skip pay raises for salaried employees this year

The WHO has criticised <keyword id="1334" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="china" source="Orion">China</keyword> for withholding data related to samples taken at a market in <keyword id="208994" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wuhan" source="Orion">Wuhan</keyword> in 2020 that could have provided vital information about the Covid-19 pandemic's origins, calling on Beijing to be transparent and to share results of investigations it conducts. The Huanan market in central China's Wuhan city was the epicentre of the pandemic. From its origin there, the SARS-CoV-2 virus rapidly spread to other locations in Wuhan in late 2019 and then to the rest of the world. "Every piece of data relating to studying the origins of COVID-19 needs to be shared with the international community immediately. These data could have - and should have - been shared three years ago," <keyword id="6356311" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-health-organisation" source="Orion">World Health Organisation</keyword> (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva on Friday. "We continue to call on China to be transparent in sharing data and to conduct the necessary investigations and share the results. Understanding how the pandemic began remains both a moral and scientific imperative," he said. Ghebreyesus said that last Sunday, the global health agency was made aware of data published on the GISAID database in late January, and taken down again recently. "The data, from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, relates to samples taken at the Huanan market in Wuhan, in 2020," he said. Ghebreyesus said while the data was online, scientists from a number of countries downloaded the data and analysed it. "As soon as we became aware of this data, we contacted the Chinese <keyword id="6379474" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cdc" source="Orion">CDC</keyword> and urged them to share it with WHO and the international scientific community so it can be analysed," he said, adding that WHO also convened the Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens, or SAGO, which met on Tuesday. "We asked researchers from the Chinese CDC and the international group of scientists to present their analyses of the data to SAGO. These data do not provide a definitive answer to the question of how the pandemic began, but every piece of data is important in moving us closer to that answer," he said. In a report Thursday, the New York Times said that an international team of virus experts said they had "found genetic data from a market in Wuhan, China, linking the coronavirus with raccoon dogs for sale there." The <keyword id="52850" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nyt" source="Orion">NYT</keyword> report said that the genetic data was drawn from swabs taken from in and around the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market starting in January 2020, "shortly after the Chinese authorities had shut down the market because of suspicions that it was linked to the outbreak of a new virus." While the animals had been cleared out from the market, researchers took swabs from the walls, floors, metal cages and carts used for transporting animal cages. "In samples that came back positive for the coronavirus, the international research team found genetic material belonging to animals, including large amounts that were a match for the raccoon dog," the report said, quoting three scientists involved in the analysis. The report noted that after the international team came across the new data, it reached out to Chinese researchers who had uploaded the files with an offer to collaborate. However, after that, the sequences disappeared from GISAID. Globally, there have been more than 760,360,900 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including over 6,873,400 deaths, according to the World Health Organisation. WHO said that three years later, while there are almost 7 million reported deaths from COVID-19, "we know that the actual number of deaths is much higher." Ghebreyesus expressed confidence that this year "we will be able to say that COVID-19 is over as a public health emergency of international concern." He however noted that "we are not there yet" given that last week, there were still more than five thousand reported deaths from COVID-19. "That's five thousand too many for a disease that can be prevented and treated. Even as we become increasingly hopeful about the end of the pandemic, the question of how it began remains unanswered," he said. "We have a duty to ourselves to end this pandemic as soon as possible. We have a duty to those we have lost to find out how it started," he said. The NYT report said that the "jumbling together" of genetic material from the virus and the animal does not prove that a raccoon dog itself was infected. "And even if a raccoon dog had been infected, it would not be clear that the animal had spread the virus to people. Another animal could have passed the virus to people, or someone infected with the virus could have spread the virus to a raccoon dog," the report said. "But the analysis did establish that raccoon dogs - fluffy animals that are related to foxes and are known to be able to transmit the coronavirus - deposited genetic signatures in the same place where genetic material from the virus was left," according to the scientists. They noted that the evidence was "consistent" with a scenario in which the virus spilled into humans from a wild animal. The new evidence comes weeks after a new intelligence assessment from the US Department of Energy pointed out that an "accidental laboratory leak" in China most likely caused the pandemic. "But the genetic data from the market offers some of the most tangible evidence yet of how the virus could have spilled into people from wild animals outside a lab. It also suggests that Chinese scientists have given an incomplete account of evidence that could fill in details about how the virus was spreading at the Huanan market," the NYT report said. WHO calls on China to be transparent in sharing data to determine Covid's origins

This leads to robust dialogue, richer decisions, it helps build empathy within the organization to design good, and human-centered solutions. A look at the current gender ratio MullenLowe Lintas Group’s gender ratio stands at 35% and the agency network has a similar ratio even at the leadership level. Garima Pant, Group HR Director, MullenLowe Lintas Group told us about their hiring process. She said, “For us, DEI goes beyond Gender. This year with our Apex Council, we plan to steer initiatives and changes aimed towards shaping and embedding DEI in the DNA of the organization. Our commitment to hire more diverse voices has already been put in action; we are signatories on the UN Women Empowerment Principles, we introduced our Referral program with 2X referral bonus aimed at hiring women, PWD’s and LGBTQ+ team members and are also systemically looking at embedding DEI in our processes to ensure accountability while we lead with intent. For advertising, more than most other industries, DEI is not just a humanistic issue, it is a business case. At the heart of diversity and inclusion is getting diverse thinking, diverse perspectives, thereby inspiring imagination and impacting societal change.” DDB Mudra Group, which was one of the first agencies in India to update its insurance policy to include same-sex couples and live-in partners, ended 2021 with a gender ratio of women-to-men at 40:60. Rita Verma, EVP &amp; Head - HR, DDB Mudra Group told us all about the agency’s roadmap for 2022. She said, “DEI has been a key priority for us in the last few years, and our plans for the coming year are built off the work that we have done in the last three years. The Phyllis Project is a DDB global initiative that kicked off in 2018 to help women leaders stay the course and rise more effortlessly through the ranks. In 2020, in the middle of the challenges of the pandemic, we managed to launch the India leg of the program, which is a more intense, consistent and personalised program for our top 25 women talent. We will proudly be graduating the first batch of the Phyllis India project in March of this year, and kick-starting a 2022 batch. Rohit Suri, Chief HR Officer, dentsu South Asia said that agencies should ‘foster an Inclusive Culture by cultivating a supportive, welcoming and inclusive workplace where everyone can contribute to their full potential.’ Sharing how the entire advertising ecosystem can elevate DEI across the board, he said, “The advertising industry has a huge responsibility to uphold DEI and ensure stereotypes are removed, create products and service offerings that mitigate bias and it is important for the industry to understand that DEI is all about adapting human behavior, something that requires continuous enhancement of inclusion capabilities and ongoing practice every day. Secondly, along with behaviors organizations must have robust feedback mechanisms and listening systems that reinforce the culture of inclusion and belonging. Third, organisations must invest in training programs and initiatives that invite diverse talent from underrepresented groups to join them to ensure the ideas that come from these diverse teams are better and the clients are better served. Fourth, when DEI is treated as a business imperative it moves beyond the responsibility of one team or a group of people it becomes the responsibility of everyone in the organisation.” Pant broke down her advice into three parts and advised agencies to follow M.A.P. “Measure - What gets measured gets done: The Org Business and Talent dashboard needs to have a diversity and inclusion lens across the employee lifecycle. Awareness - Moving beyond the metrics. Awareness is the greatest agent for change. Policies: Put a stake in the ground. Policies ensure that organizations embrace talent practices that systemically drive Inclusion,” explained Pant. Verma pointed out that ‘with the queer community, the task is slightly different because one does not identify candidates at the outset by their sexual identity.’ What DDB Mudra Group is trying to build is an environment that makes everyone feel safe, nurtured and be given equal opportunity. This happens through consistent awareness building, education, and sensitization workshops and interactions. To bridge this gap, the agency has organised various masterclass sessions for its employees. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Online shopping has made it easier for counterfeiters to sell fake products.</li><li>Counterfeits cost businesses more than $200 billion a year and contribute to 750,000 jobs lost.</li></ul>Daniel Shapiro's work is never done.As quickly as he's scanned between 30 and 50 million listings for illegal products, a new crop is awaiting him.Shapiro's job at Red Points, a brand-protection software company that works with brands such as Puma, Fila, and Hugo Boss, is to discover where <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-spot-fake-goods-online-2023-8">counterfeit products</a> are hiding on the World Wide Web and get them taken down. He started his career as a buyer for Macy's in the 1980s, then led anti-counterfeiting teams at eBay for more than seven years.The "old days" of street hawkers on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fake-purse-shopping-china-town-2011-5">Canal Street selling knockoff Fendi and Coach bags</a> are long gone, he told Insider."The evolution today with online e-commerce, the game has changed dramatically," he said.In his 13 years of combating counterfeit products, he's seen it all: shoes, high fashion, socks, underwear, supplements, home goods, car parts, and sex toys."Everything gets counterfeited at some point," he said. "There's some danger in accidentally buying a counterfeit in a particular industry."<h2>What is the difference between a counterfeit and a dupe?</h2><a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/scandal-reselling-fake-birkin-bags-hermes-tiktok-birkintrash-2023-2">Counterfeits are not to be mistaken for dupes</a>, which are products that are similar to a popular brand's trending items, usually sold at a much lower price. Counterfeit sellers can easily set up shop on marketplaces such as Amazon, Alibaba, Shein, and Temu, where many knockoff sales go undetected.The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/trade/trends-in-trade-in-counterfeit-and-pirated-goods_g2g9f533-en">Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development reported</a> that counterfeit goods traded internationally increased from $200 billion in 2005 to $509 billion in 2016. Counterfeit goods cost the global economy $500 billion a year, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.uschamber.com/intellectual-property/back-to-school-business-and-law-enforcement-team-up-to-protect-students-parents-and-teachers-from-counterfeit-goods#:~:text=money%20over%20time.-,Counterfeit%20products%20cost%20the%20global%20economy%20over%20%24500%20billion%20a,about%20the%20dangers%20of%20counterfeits.">according to the US Chamber of Commerce</a>.Technology has not only escalated the counterfeit market but made it increasingly difficult to tell the genuine products from the imposters. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/superfake-handbags-clothing-almost-real-knockoffs-2023-7">Superfakes</a> have emerged as manufacturers have become increasingly skilled at replicating designer goods. "Tomorrow there'll be somewhere between 2 and 3 billion new listings that didn't exist today," Shapiro said.And even if a seller is banned from a site, it often does little to deter them. "They don't go away, they just go somewhere else, to another marketplace or another social-media site," he said.Red Points helped remove a total of 4.6 million listings last year, a company representative said. Shapiro estimated that he discovers a new e-commerce marketplace every one to two months."I've been in this space 13 years and I'm always shocked when a new one comes up," he said.While the US government intercepts some counterfeit products, there are limitations. For one thing, many packages shipped through e-commerce sites are<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/shein-and-temu-skirt-import-tariffs-us-lawmakers-fast-fashion-2023-6"> small, low-value orders</a>. "So the penalty is very low and the money is very good."According to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ussc.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/training/primers/2023_Primer_Intellectual_Property.pdf">US Sentencing Commission</a>, the maximum sentence for selling counterfeit goods is 10 years in prison. In 2021, the average sentence for copyright and trademark infringement was 10 months, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ussc.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/research-and-publications/quick-facts/Copyright_FY21.pdf">the agency reported</a>.Shapiro said a law-enforcement official once told him that selling counterfeit Nike sneakers can reap<a target="_blank" href="https://www.occrp.org/en/daily/6240-ngo-transnational-organized-crime-groups-make-us-2-2-trillion-a-year"> higher profit margins than selling drugs</a>."It might cost you $8.50 per pair of shoes, and if you could sell them on e-commerce sites for $85," Shapiro said. "That margin was greater than the margin if you were trying to buy heroin or cocaine from your dealer and then resell it on the streets."The US government often relies on corporations to fill in the gaps.After complaints and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fastcompany.com/90412216/a-team-of-1000-major-brands-are-fighting-back-against-counterfeit-design-on-amazon">pressure from retailers</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.modernretail.co/technology/a-timeline-of-amazons-efforts-to-curb-counterfeit-selling/">Amazon increased its efforts</a> to combat counterfeits, which are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/06/20/1075088/chinese-amazon-seller-counterfeit-lawsuit/">rampant on the marketplace</a>.In 2020, Amazon established its Counterfeit Crimes Unit, which works with brands to identify and remove counterfeit products. It also conducts investigations and sends criminal referrals to law enforcement. In some cases, Amazon files civil lawsuits. The company recently filed a joint lawsuit alleging a crime ring<a target="_blank" href="https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/policy-news-views/the-latest-updates-from-amazons-counterfeit-crimes-unit"> attempted to sell counterfeit Therabody massage devices</a> on Amazon.Last year, the company removed more than 6 million counterfeit items from the marketplace and referred over 1,300 individuals to law enforcement in the US, UK, Europe, and China, according to Amazon's annual <a target="_blank" href="https://brandservices.amazon.com/progressreport">Brand Protection Report</a>.Shapiro said online counterfeits will continue to be a never-ending battle for most brands."There's too much money," he said. "It's not going away." But without a strategy, brands can suffer reputational damage from bad reviews when people buy phony products marketed as their own."Reviews can pile up and we can then go in and take down the counterfeits," he said. "We can't fix your reviews for you."
