New <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword>: Japanese auto major <keyword id="19965528" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="honda" source="keywords">Honda</keyword> on Wednesday said it has started joint research on AI technologies with <keyword id="19896445" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-delhi" source="keywords">IIT Delhi</keyword> and IIT Bombay with plans to develop driver assistance and automated driving technologies applicable in various regions of the world, including India. The joint research is aimed to further advance Honda CI (Cooperative Intelligence)-- the original Honda AI that enables mutual understanding between machines and people, the company said in a statement. Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), a Honda subsidiary in India, will sign a joint research contract with the two IITs. "The IITs are a home to a large number of excellent researchers and engineers, and through the joint research with those institutes, Honda will strive to advance the underlying technologies of CI, with an eye toward the future applications for technologies that reduce traffic collisions and enable automated driving," it said. With an aim to achieve further advancement of CI, Honda and IITs have set joint research themes such as recognition of the surrounding environment and cultivation of cooperative behaviour, and will conduct research and development while utilising the cutting-edge AI technologies, it added. Under the partnership, for each research theme, Honda associates and IIT professors will engage with IIT students for planning, designing, developing and testing technologies which work beyond the confines of the laboratory and thereby proceed with the research and development more flexibly and with a high degree of freedom, Honda said. "This will enable Honda and IITs to work in a more flexible environment with deeper exchange of academic and industry insights," it added. In addition, as part of this research, Honda with the help of IITs is aiming to conduct verification of driving assistance and automated driving technologies in the suburbs of Delhi and in Mumbai. Due to numerous variations in the road systems and a large number of road users, India has a complex traffic environment where situations that occur frequently are difficult for AI to predict. "By conducting technology verification in such a technically challenging environment, Honda and IITs will refine the underlying technologies of CI and strive to apply them to future driver assistance and automated driving technologies in various regions of the world, including India," the statement said. Honda said it has been actively hiring IIT graduates since 2019, and many of them are now playing key roles in the areas of mobility intelligence, including the research and development of CI.

The UK-based group also accorded two stars to <keyword id="21402083" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Amaze" source="keywords">Honda Amaze</keyword> for adult and zero stars for child occupant safety. It also gave three stars in adult safety and five stars for child occupants to <keyword id="20774736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Carens" source="keywords">Kia Carens</keyword> after the latest round of crash tests. The highest score on a vehicle crash test is five stars, while the lowest score is zero stars. "We were disappointed to see Mahindra's one star rating for the Bolero Neo. This falls well below the safety performance we have come to expect from the manufacturer," Global NCAP Secretary General Alejandro Furas said in a statement. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra said the company is committed to deliver vehicles that ensure the safety and satisfaction of customers and users. Bolero Neo has always complied with safety regulations that have been introduced over time and continues to be fully compliant with the latest Indian safety standards, it said. "As we are constantly innovating and improving our vehicles to exceed safety regulations, we want to assure our customers and stakeholders that Mahindra has significantly enhanced safety features in all our recent launches," the auto major stated. Models like Thar, XUV700, XUV300, and Scorpio-N have been recognised with high safety ratings of 4- and 5-star by the Global NCAP, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to safety. Furas said there has been an improvement in Kia's rating for the Carens since its original test when the model scored a zero rating for adult occupant protection. "However, we were expecting a better performance in the retest given the Carens is fitted with six airbags as standard," he added. On Honda Amaze, Furas stated: "Regrettably Honda did not take the opportunity to update the Amaze with more safety features which explains its disappointing score." Commenting on the development, Honda Cars India said the South Africa spec second generation Amaze has already been tested as four star by GNCAP in 2019. "The latest test basis new protocol shows that the total score is of five-star level. "However, mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like electronic stability control and side curtain airbags, it resulted in lower rating," the automaker said in a statement. Global NCAP accords low safety rating to Bolero Neo, Amaze

New Delhi, Japanese auto major Honda is all set to introduce its India-made mid-sized SUV Elevate in the <keyword id="859755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="japanese-market" source="Orion">Japanese market</keyword> next year. It would be the first instance that a product manufactured by <keyword id="1381889" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="honda-cars-india" source="Orion">Honda Cars India</keyword> Ltd (HCIL), a wholly-owned unit of the Japanese firm, will be exported to the highly regulated Japanese market. HCIL is rolling out Elevate from its Tapukara (Rajasthan-based) production facility. "After its successful debut in India earlier this year, Elevate is scheduled for Spring 2024 launch in the Japanese market under the brand name WR-V," an HCIL spokesperson said in a statement. In a first for HCIL, the model will be manufactured in India and exported to Japan, it added. "This strategic move is a strong reflection of manufacturing capabilities of India operations and also solidifies our vision of making the country a key export hub in Honda business," the spokesperson said. The company's Tapukara-based plant is fully equipped to take care of the domestic as well as export requirements, the spokesperson added. HCIL introduced Elevate in the domestic market in September this year. Starting with the model, the company aims to introduce five SUV models in the domestic market by 2030. The company also plans to bring a battery-electric version of Elevate within the next three years. The model is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Made-in-India Honda Elevate to debut in Japan next year

The price increase will vary depending on the different trims of the model. "We will increase Amaze prices by up to ₹12,000 with effect from April 1 to factor in the rise in the production cost due to the upcoming stringent emission norms," Honda Cars India Vice President Marketing &amp; Sales Kunal Behl told PTI. The company would not be altering the prices of its mid-sized sedan City, he added. The Indian automobile industry is currently working to make its products meet the second phase of <keyword id="3084225" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bsvi" source="Orion">BSVI</keyword>. From April 1, vehicles will need to have an onboard self-diagnostic device to monitor real-time driving emission levels. Interestingly, after 160 years, this inauspicious time period is followed by a 'gap month' in astrological calendar, that is delaying the onset of festive season. Nonetheless, Guleria cited the urban base of the company as a major contributor to its overall growth. "We have a significant presence in urban areas. Now, we are also see ing some 'green shoots' in urban demand as the pandemic spreads to semi rural areas and the hinterland," he said during the interaction. "Southern region has boosted our prospects. We have a healthy traction in this region. Overall, rural sales will continue to be a major contributor to our sales as healthy monsoon rains, higher crop output and support pr ices will bolster buying sentiment." On the upcoming festive season, he said the two-wheeler major was now confident of achieving healthy sales level during this period. "There will be pent-up demand and customers will be attracted to new offerings, we are now working with our dealers to prepare ahead to meet this demand," he said. "Production and dispatches levels are optimal but you really do not want to overstock during these uncertain times." The company has a line-up of 14 models including its latest motorcycle Hornet 2.0 dispatched for the festive season. In terms of new offerings, Guleria cited that recently launched motorcycles h ave reached dealerships and received healthy response. "We have witnessed this shift towards personal mobility due to Covid. This shift is not entirely towards purchase of cars but the demand trajectory is for two-wheelers," he explained. "We have also witnessed that customers' fear factor has gone down and the enquiries rate has increased. All these combined will give a healthy push during the festive season." Details about the EV's design and specification have not been released, but SHM said it intends to provide "high value-added products and services." It will do so by focusing heavily on the software and the car's internal entertainment system, which could include "digital innovations such as the metaverse," the company said. Hyundai Motor India Ltd sold 63,201 units last month, up from 45,791 units sold in September 2021. The two companies plan to engage in the joint development and sales of high value-added battery electric vehicles (EVs) and commercialise them in conjunction with providing mobility services.
