<ul><li><keyword id="19906087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyundai" source="keywords">Hyundai</keyword> Motor India Limited is set to debut in India's stock market.</li><li>The IPO will open on October 15, making it the first car company in over two decades to go public in India.</li><li>Here’s everything you need to know about the South Korean automaker ahead of its IPO.</li></ul> Hyundai Motor India Limited, the Indian arm of South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company is all set to make its stock market debut in India as its initial public offering (IPO) opens on October 15. This will be the first market outside South Kores where the country is listed.<br /><br />Hyundai, which entered the Indian market in 1996 is one of the top automakers in India, moving between the second and third spots. The company emerged as the second biggest automaker in Hyundai. Since it entered the Indian market, the company has sold over 80 lakh cars in the country.<br /><br />Hyundai intends to establish India as a global manufacturing and export hub for the company and this might be an initial step in this direction.<br /><br />KFin Technologies is the registrar for the public issue and advisors for the issue include Kotak Investment Banking, Citi, HSBC, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley.<br /><br /><h2>India’s biggest IPO</h2>Hyundai India is looking to raise ₹27,870 crore from the IPO, significantly higher than the ₹21,008 crore raised by the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in 2022, making it the biggest IPO in India’s history.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="111690863" title="The biggest IPOs in India’s history – LIC to Paytm, companies that have raised the most funds" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>About the IPO</h2>The upcoming IPO from Hyundai is entirely an offer for sale (OFS), with the company looking to offload up to 17.5% of shares, which is 14.22 crore shares with a price band of ₹1865 to ₹1,960 per share. Bids can be made in a lot size of 7 shares or multiples of 7 shares.<br /><br />The IPO opens on October 15 and will close on October 18. While the allotment will be finalised on October 18, the shares will be listed on the stock exchange on October 22.<br /><br />At the upper end of the price band, Hyundai Motor India will be valued at $18 billion (approx. ₹1.6 lakh crore), which is around 40% of its parent company, Hyundai Global’s $45 billion valuation.<br /><br />As it is entirely an OFS, the company won’t receive any funds and all the funds raised will go to Hyundai Global. However, the company has said that part of the funds will be allocated towards research and development, especially in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid technologies.<br /><br />The company has reserved 7.78 lakh shares with a value of ₹131 to ₹138 crore for employees. Employees will get these shares at a discount of ₹186 per share.<br /><br /><h2>First carmaker in over two decades to go public</h2>In addition to being the biggest IPO in the country’s history, this will also make the company the first car maker to go public in India in over two decades. During the 3-month period from April to June 2024, the company earned a revenue of ₹17,567.98 crore.<br /><br />The company recorded a profit after tax (PAT) of ₹6,060.04 crore in FY24, up from ₹4,709.25 crore in FY23 and ₹2,901.59 crore in FY22. The company recorded a PAT of ₹1,489.65 crore from April to June 2024.<br /><br />“Hyundai Motor India is seeking a slightly higher premium to Maruti and lower to M&amp;M based on price earnings ratio while Hyundai stands to be expensive in terms of price to book value. Hyundai India justifies its premium ask considering its leadership in SUV sales, world-class brand image followed by better safety ratings, Multi-segment growth visibility largely been driven by its popular SUVs, particularly the Creta, Exter, and Venue models in the Indian market,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities.<br /><br /><h2>Hyundai paid ₹10,780 crore dividend in FY24</h2>Ahead of the IPO, Hyundai paid a ₹10,780 crore dividend in FY24, up from ₹4,653.42 crore dividend in FY23 and ₹1,493.45 crore dividend in FY22.<br /><br />With this, the company’s cash and bank balance has declined from ₹17,741.15 crore a year ago to ₹9,017.35 crore.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="113925972" title="September Auto sales – Automakers report a decline, Mahindra and Mahindra overtakes Tata Motors" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br />“As a result, our ability to utilise our internal accruals and cash and bank balances has been reduced. Any resultant insufficiency in our internal accruals and cash and bank balance may require us to borrow money to meet our growth requirements and incur borrowing costs, which may adversely impact our profitability, financial ratios and results of operations,” the company said in its Red Herring Prospectus (RHP).<br /><br /><h2>Declining grey market premium</h2>Grey market premium (GMP) is the premium at which IPO shares are traded in an unofficial market before they are listed on the stock exchanges. In essence, it is the premium above the issue price of a share.<br /><br />The GMP of Hyundai has been on a decline, from ₹570 around two weeks ago to ₹130.<br /><br /><h2>Key risks to remember</h2>Here are some of the key risks that the business faces:<br /><br /><h3>Rising part prices</h3>There has been an increase in prices of key vehicle parts over the years, especially chipsets. /><strong>Should you opt for it?</strong><br /><br />Return of premium term insurance plan may come with a feel-good factor as one gets back the premium at the end of the policy term. However, one needs to remember that the premium paid is a lot higher and that beats the purpose of a cheap term insurance plan which does its job of providing insurance coverage. <br /><br />“As the premium is higher than pure term plans, hence return of premium term plan is not beneficial as one could get other investment opportunities during the same tenure to generate higher return on the additional premium which they would pay in case of return of premium term plan,” says Kumar. <br /><br />However, people who are wary of sunk cost might go for these plans as they get the satisfaction of getting the premium back at the end of tenure in case one survives during the coverage period. Again, it may not make sense in the current financial circumstance, but for some, it may provide the comfort of assured return of the principal amount.<br />

The laptop is available with 32GB LPDDR5 6400 MHz RAM and 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD.<br /><br />The graphic duties are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics.<br /><br />I tested the laptop with several games, including games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Starfield. Both the games performed well and the laptop was able to handle them without any issues. The laptop was able to handle these games without any issues while playing at maximum settings. Considering the hardware, you will be able to handle everything that you throw at it.<br /><br />The laptop’s cooling technology can keep the device cool during extended gaming sessions so you don’t have to worry about performance throttling.<br /><br />The laptop is equipped with a 99.9 Wh battery and offers a decent battery life. New Delhi: Consumer Electronics maker <keyword id="20046687" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung-india" source="keywords">Samsung India</keyword> on Tuesday launched a new range of <keyword id="20097714" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-powered" source="keywords">AI-powered</keyword> <keyword id="20101665" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="washing-machine" source="keywords">washing machine</keyword>s and aims to be the market leader in the <keyword id="20097242" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium" source="keywords">premium</keyword> segment in the coming quarters, said a company official on Tuesday. The company, which currently holds around 20 per cent of the washing machine market, has "an objective of becoming a consumer leader" by gaining market share quarter-on-quarter, outpacing the industry growth, said <keyword id="19897758" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Samsung" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> India Senior Director, Digital Appliances, Saurabh Baishakhia. <br /><br />Samsung expects new launches, the ongoing trend of premiumisation in the appliances segment and the coming festive season this year and tailwind from attractive financing schemes breaking down acquisition costs will help it gain in the segment and claim market leadership, he said. <br /><br />"We have 20 per cent market share and are looking further improving it. We aspire to become a brand that is bought by most consumers," Baishakhia told PTI. <br /><br />At present, South Korean maker LG Electronics is the leader in the Indian Washing Machine segment, with over 35 per cent overall market. In the washing machine vertical, brands like Haier, Bosch, Siemens, IFB, Godrej Appliances, and Whirlpool of India compete with Samsung. <br /><br />Samsung is looking at the new consumer trends, where people are upgrading and replacing, opting for a higher capacity washing machine of over 9 kg, which currently contributes 40 per cent of the front-load model sales. <br /><br />As per its strategy, Samsung is focusing on the front-load washing machine. Within this, models with a load capacity of nine kg and above are having a higher growth of 50 per cent, said Baishakhia. <br /><br />"So, people are already paying a premium in this industry for a large capacity of nine kg. We are doing is democratising it further by giving them even a larger load," he said, adding that the demand for the large sizes is growing because of changes in lifestyle besides growing urbanisation and rise in disposable income. <br /><br />Consumers are paying around a 5 per cent premium on the addition of every one kg load capacity. However, Samsung is a 12 kg capacity washing machine with a 10 per cent premium only against a 20 per cent market trend. <br /><br />"We have got the inflection point to almost half of it, which means that even at a premium of 10 per cent, they will not only get a larger capacity size but also get all these features," Baishakhia said. <br /><br />The Indian washing machine market is estimated to be around 10 million units annually, growing in single digits. Semi-automatic machines are still popular in rural markets, but full automatic front load and top load models are catching up now. <br /><br />When asked if Samsung would have a leadership position in the premium segment of Washing Mahchine over Rs 30,000 plus per unit, Baishakhia said the company would. <br /><br />"For us, our first target is to become a leader in this front-loading segment... So, our current goal would be, as to how, in this category, we can gain the highest market share and lead the market," he said. <br /><br />Samsung has claimed that its new AI-powered line-up of 10 large-sized front-load washing machines of 12 Kg will help to reduce energy consumption by around 70 per cent and be a "game changer". <br /><br />These machines with larger drums will reduce the wash timing to 39 minutes as the AI will detect the fabric and water turbidity and also decide on the perfect amount of detergent and fabric care. <br /><br />"Through this AI energy mode, we will be reducing energy consumption by more than 70 per cent. So, it will also be adapting to the consumer habit, with habit learning to suggest what kind of cycles suit most washing times," he said, adding that users will also have seamless information exchange through Samsung's app.

This is where the BenQ PD3225U shines, offering excellent colour reproduction and detailed images. The IPS Black panel helps in maintaing a good contrast ratio.<br /><br />The monitor offers high brightness, ensuring you don’t have to worry about visibility. The monitor is quite bright and I found myself using it mostly around the 50% mark.<br /><br />The screen is factory-calibrated for MacBook, allowing you to start using it immediately without worrying about colour calibration. It also offers an M-Book mode to sync the colour settings between your device and the monitor.<br /><br />BenQ has also offered the Hotkey Puck G2 with the monitor. This can be connected to the monitor and allows you to control the on-screen menu. This helps in boosting productivity as it allows you to easily switch between various modes and tools.<br /><br />The monitor also comes with dual 2.5W speakers. These are enough to watch a quick video, listen to music or just for notifications. While these are good to have, they are not a replacement for a pair of headphones. I have always preferred a monitor that has a speaker so that I don’t have to grab my headphones every time I want to listen to something.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The BenQ PD3225U is an excellent option, especially for MacBook users looking for a reliable monitor. While the price may look on the higher side, it is relatively affordable when compared to the Apple Studio Display which starts at ₹1,59,900. BenQ PD3225U review – a premium 4K monitor for creators

Most of us think of India as a young country. And as home to one-fifth of the world's young population and with an average age of 29, you're right. But did you know India's elderly population is set to double from its present 153 million to a staggering 347 million, in just 30 years? Moreover, by the end of this century, the population of <keyword id="19894991" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-citizens" source="keywords">senior citizens</keyword> in India will surpass the population of those aged under 14, as per a report by the United Nations Population Fund and the International Institute for Population Sciences.<br /><br />As such, with <keyword id="19955368" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Budget-2024" source="keywords">budget 2024</keyword> looming on the horizon, what is it that this burgeoning section of our population wants? We take a look : <br /><br /><h2>Wish 1: Raise deduction threshold for <keyword id="22285655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mediclaim-premium" source="keywords">mediclaim premium</keyword></h2>At present, senior citizens (aged 60 and above) and super senior citizens (aged 80 and  above) can claim a deduction of up to Rs 50,000 on health insurance premiums they pay during the year. For those aged below 60, the annual deduction limit is of Rs 25,000. <br /><br />But, as Tarun Mathur, CBO, Policybazaar.com notes, "There’s a need for an increase in the tax deduction limit for health insurance premiums, to raise the same to Rs 50,000 for individuals, their spouses, and dependent children, and to Rs 1 lakh for senior citizen parents". <br /><br />With insurance regulator <keyword id="6361421" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRDA" source="Orion">IRDA</keyword> removing the age cap (which was previously 65 years) for buying new insurance policies, health insurance for senior citizens becomes far more accessible. Given that only 20% of India's population aged 60 have any kind of health insurance, a comprehensive insurance coverage with low tax liabilities becomes a necessity for our senior citizens.<br /><br />At present, the government is mulling extending the <keyword id="22285657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ayushman-Bharat-Pradhan-Yojana" source="Orion">Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Yojana</keyword> to provide crucial, free healthcare support for India's senior citizens aged above 70. But only time, and July 22nd will tell. <br /><br /><h2>Wish 2: Offer similar tax benefits to pension products as NPS </h2>NPS, or <keyword id="475509" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Pension-System" source="Orion">National Pension System</keyword> is a lucrative retirement planning scheme. And it comes with many tax benefits. For instance, if you withdraw up to 60% of your accumulated pension as lumpsum once you turn 60, your withdrawal is tax free.<br /> <br />Similarly, if any amount you receive from NPS is reinvested in the annuity plan, it remains tax exempt. However, income from annuities is taxed as per your regular income tax slab. And any early withdrawals that you make (before 60 years) will attract taxes. <br /><br />A standard deduction of Rs 50,000, or amount of annuity income (whichever is lower) can be claimed. But under regular annuities or pension products, senior citizens pay a 10% tax on total taxable income over Rs. 3 lakhs , Rs 20,000 + 20% over amount exceeding Rs 5 lakh, and Rs 1.2 lakh+ 30% on amount exceeding Rs 10 lakh. <br /><br />As Mathur notes, "Pension products like annuity plans should be given the same tax benefits as NPS, since the current taxation does not encourage investment in retirement planning. It’s also necessary to expand Section 80C deductions and add a dedicated category for term insurance because the existing limit of Rs. 1,50,000 is insufficient".<br /><br />Even retirement planner Sanjeev Dawar notes that income from annuities is a primary source of income for retirees. "As such, tax relief is expected since returns, although assured for life, are relatively low. Moreover, they remain fixed and have no sensitivity to inflation". <br /><br />Additionally, Dawar also advocates for special financial considerations for eligible individuals who are compelled to stay in old-age homes in their twilight years. It is also needed that travel concessions, that have been withdrawn, are restarted".  <br /><br /><h2>Wish 3: Lowering lock-in periods for elderly </h2>Many schemes like national savings certificate (NSC), unit-linked insurance plans (ULIP) and senior citizen savings scheme (SCSS) are subject to tax deductions, provided they are redeemed after their specific <keyword id="20792448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lock-in-period" source="keywords">lock-in period</keyword>. For instance, tax-saver FDs, ULIPs and NSC have a lock-in period of 5 years, while equity-linked savings scheme (ELSS) have a lock-in period of 3 years. It would help senior citizens if this lock-in period is reduced, so that they have some liquidity and cash handy during medical or other such emergencies. Additionally, withdrawals should be allowed within lock-in period sans hefty penalties, as is the case right now. <br /><br /><h2>Wish 4: Lowering GST on health insurance premiums </h2>Currently, GST on health insurance premium is payable at 18%, which can translate into a hefty levy, especially since senior citizens end up paying significantly higher premiums to get insurance coverage. For a premium of Rs 30,000, the GST could go as high as Rs 5,400. As per  Prasun Sikdar, MD &amp; CEO, Manipal Cigna Health Insurance, "lowering the GST burden on the health insurance premiums will be a huge respite for missing middle and senior citizens to get access to quality healthcare they need and help to significantly boost insurance penetration across India by driving affordability.”<br /><h2><br />Wish 5: Reduce tax on <keyword id="21695681" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passive-income" source="keywords">passive income</keyword> sources for aged</h2>For most senior citizens, rental income from house, pension and other such passive sources turn into a major income avenue, once they retire from active employment. As such, these should be taxed at a lower slab, and not considered as regular salary. Or else, higher exemption limits should be introduced to allow them to save more. At present, the basic exemption limit for senior citizens between 60-80 years is Rs 3 lakh, while the exemption limit for citizens above 80 years is Rs 5 lakhs. The limits should be revised, keeping in mind how expensive medical care is in current times. <br /><br />

Budget 2024: Here's what India's elderlies want

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Goldman Sachs raised its S&amp;P 500 year-end price target to 6,000, implying a 5% gain.</li><li>The increase follows the previous price target raises from 4,700 to 5,200 and then to 5,600.</li></ul><p>Strategists at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/gs-stock">Goldman Sachs</a> raised their <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a> year-end price target for the third time this year.</p><p>In a note on Friday, Goldman's David Kostin said he now expects the S&amp;P 500 to finish the year at 6,000, representing the second-highest target among Wall Street strategists.</p><p>With the S&amp;P 500 trading at around 5,720, Kostin's target implies a potential return of about 5% with just under three months left in the year. </p><p>The price target increase comes after Kostin and his team set an initial year-end S&amp;P 500 price target of 4,700 late last year. The team then raised their price target to 5,200 in February and once again to 5,600 in June.</p><p>Kostin also raised the bank's 12-month S&amp;P 500 price target to 6,300 from 6,000.</p><p>"The primary driver of the upward revision to our 2025 EPS estimate is greater margin expansion," Kostin said. "We expect sales will grow by 5%, roughly in line with nominal GDP growth. However, we now expect 78 bp of net margin expansion in 2025, compared with 24 bp previously."</p><p>Kostin said his assumptions are based on a relatively "steady" macro economic outlook, with US real GDP growing at an average pace of 2.3% in 2025 and 2.0% in 2026.</p><p>At the micro level, Kostin highlighted three reasons he expects higher corporate profits in the year ahead.</p><p>First, Kostin said idiosyncratic charges and write-downs for a handful of S&amp;P 500 companies weighed on corporate profits in 2024 and should moderate in 2025. Those companies include <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/bmy-stock">Bristol-Myers Squibb</a>, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/gild-stock">Gilead</a>, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/wbd-stock">Warner Bros. Reversion to trend should lead to margin expansion through 2026," Kostin explained.</p><p>Finally, mega-cap tech companies should continue to see solid profit growth, in part thanks to AI trends.</p><p>"While the magnitude of beats may moderate, the recent GS Communacopia Conference indicated strong ongoing AI demand that should benefit these stocks," Kostin said.</p><p>Kostin's price target forecasts assume the S&amp;P 500 continues to trade at a premium valuation of about 22x forward earnings. As the lens cannot be fully covered, it is possible for dust to accumulate. Besides the lens, the projector features an IR sensor.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="Buttons" msid="111837012" hostid="261" sizebytes="36128" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Control buttons&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The projector features manual focus and zoom wheels located under a protective sliding door. You also get various control buttons under the cover, which allow you to adjust and operate the projector.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="Side vents" msid="111837053" hostid="261" sizebytes="31138" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Vents on the side&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />At the bottom, you get four rubber feet and one wide adjustable leg which can be used to prop up the projector when needed.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="Ports" msid="111837023" hostid="261" sizebytes="63326" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Ports at the back&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The projector comes with various input ports at the back, including 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB Type-C port, a USB Type-A port and an audio port.<br /><br /><h2>Features and performance</h2>The ViewSonic X2-4K features a 1920x1080 pixel 0.65-inch DLP chip that uses fast-switch pixel shifting to deliver a 3840x2160 pixel screen. The short throw projector offers between a 60 to 120-inch projection from 1 to 3 meters distance in 4K resolution.<br /><br />The projector offers vertical keystone correction, image warping, and a 4-point keystone correction, making it easy to achieve a perfect image alignment.<br /><br />The included remote control has a motion-sensitive backlight, which is useful for making adjustments in the dark.<br /><br />The projector offers up to 240Hz refresh rate when connected to a console. You have the option to choose from 4K at 60Hz, 1440p at 120Hz or 1080p at 240Hz. I found the 1440p at 120Hz to offer the best balance of resolution and refresh rate. If you are watching movies or games, you can switch to 4K resolution. While using the projector at 240Hz, the company claims you can get the input lag down to 4.2 seconds.<br /><br />I played several games on the Xbox, from fast-paced games to games with varied visuals. The projector was able to properly render everything, with good shadow details even in dark areas.<br /><br />The projector’s Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) automatically switches to ultra-fast input settings when gaming is detected. However, in this mode, some image correction features are disabled to prioritise performance.<br /><br />Apart from gaming, the projector also works well for entertainment. While gaming, I used the device’s Gaming profile but switched to the Movie mode while watching movies. The projector is a great replacement for TVs and watching movies and even cricket on the console was a good experience.<br /><br />The ViewSonic X2-4K’s LED lamp offers a brightness of 2,900 Lumens. The light source is rated for 60,000 hours, so you don’t have to worry about it anytime soon.<br /><br />For audio, the projector is equipped with 2 x 6-watt Harmon Kardon speakers. The speakers deliver good audio, both for gaming and other entertainment. You also have the option to connect an external audio system using Bluetooth or the 3.5mm audio port.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The ViewSonic X2-4K is a great option if you are a gamer looking to take your gaming experience to the next level and are willing to invest in a premium gaming projector. At the same time, the pricing is on the higher side and is a bit expensive for casual users.<br /><br />The projector can not only be used for gaming but also for watching movies and sports like cricket. <ul><li>The whole idea why waiting periods exist is that people should not abuse insurance.</li><li>When there is a pre-existing disease declared in the proposal form, it will have usually a 24- 36 month <keyword id="707278" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="waiting-period" source="Orion">waiting period</keyword></li><li>A lot of <keyword id="6362363" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-insurance" source="Orion">health insurance</keyword> policies provide options to the customer to reduce the waiting period for pre existing diseases by paying an extra <keyword id="47469" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium" source="Orion">premium</keyword> </li></ul>The purpose of health insurance is to cover us in case of any medical procedure or emergency. But the coverage does not start from day one of the policy being issued. There is a certain time, also known as the waiting period after which the <keyword id="7692022" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="policy-coverage" source="Orion">policy coverage</keyword> kicks in. <br /><br />“A waiting period in health insurance policies refers to the duration that must pass after purchasing the policy before it covers specific diseases, specific surgeries, medical conditions, treatments or any add-ons. These typically range from 1-4 years and vary across insurers,” says Adarsh Agarwal, Chief Distribution Officer, Digit General Insurance. <br /><br /><strong>Types of waiting period</strong> <br /><br />Waiting periods are typically of three kinds. <br /><br />The first is an initial 30 day waiting period. During this time, no claims or planned procedures are covered. <br /><br />“Anything like an infection where there is a probability that one may have caught it before buying the policy, is not covered. However any hospitalisation due to accidental injury is covered,” says Bhaskar Nerurkar, Head, Health Administration Team, Bajaj Allianz, General Insurance. <br /><br />The second type of waiting period is when there is a pre-existing disease (PED) declared in the proposal. Coverage for such diseases will have a 24- 36 month waiting period. Similarly, health insurance policies for maternity also have a waiting period ranging between 9-24 months or more, so as to discourage people from buying a health insurance policy to solely cover maternity costs. <br /><br />The third type of waiting period is for some of the surgeries like hip replacement and knee replacement surgeries. “These types of surgeries can be postponed by a couple of years. So they have a waiting period as well,” says Nerukar. <br /><br />“The whole idea why waiting periods exist is that people should not abuse insurance,” he adds. <br /><br /><strong>How to reduce or do away waiting periods</strong><br /><br />“A lot of health insurance companies offer that flexibility to the customer where they can reduce the waiting periods for certain diseases like asthma, BP, cholesterol or diabetes. If you pay some extra premium, the waiting period can be reduced to day one also, which means after the initial waiting period,” says Siddharth Singhal, Business Head, Health Insurance, Policybazaar.com. <br /><br />For other diseases, you can reduce the waiting period depending from plan to plan and from insurer to insurer. Apart from the diseases mentioned, the waiting period can be reduced to 90 days, in most cases. <br /><br />In some policies, there is an inbuilt feature which lets you reduce your waiting period, while in others, it comes as a rider. <br /><br /><strong>What to keep in mind</strong> <br /><br />It is advisable to take health insurance as early as possible when one does not have any pre-existing disease. <br /><br />“While one must look at opting for health insurance plans with reduced waiting periods, younger individuals, for example, who have no <keyword id="1177704" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pre-existing-diseases" source="Orion">pre-existing diseases</keyword> can opt for higher PED waiting periods in order to opt for a health plan that is affordable to them. This way one can finish all the prerequisite waiting periods when they are healthy and still keep their health insurance plan affordable,” says Agarwal. <br /><br />Also, when taking a policy it is important that one makes a clear declaration of all pre-existing diseases. That may mean that there is a waiting period, but one can pay an extra premium and reduce the waiting period. However, not declaring an existing condon may mean that a claim may be rejected altogether.<br />
