This information was conveyed by the company in a filing to the exchange on Monday. "Hero <keyword id="20291118" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="motocorp" source="keywords">MotoCorp</keyword> will make an upward revision in the ex-showroom prices of select motorcycles and scooters, with effect from July 1, 2024," said the company. The price increase will be up to Rs 1,500 on various models, although the exact amount will differ depending on the specific model and market. "The price revision will be up to Rs. 1,500 and the exact quantum of increase will vary by specific model and market," the company clarified. This means that while some models might see a smaller increase, others could reach the maximum threshold of Rs 1,500. The company has attributed this price adjustment to the rising input costs associated with manufacturing. The company stated that the increase was necessary to mitigate some of these higher costs. "The revision has been necessitated to partially offset the impact of higher input costs," the company stated. The two-wheeler sales in India experienced a marginal decline in May as compared to the same period in the previous year. The major two-wheeler manufacturers of the country reported a decrease in sales numbers, reflecting a broader trend in the industry. In May 2024 Hero MotoCorp, sold 498,123 units, marking a decrease from the 519,474 units sold in May 2023. This decline was observed in both the scooter and motorcycle segments. Specifically, Hero MotoCorp's scooter sales fell to 26,937 units in May 2024, down from 30,138 units in May 2023. Motorcycle sales also saw a decline, with 471,186 units sold in May 2024 compared to 489,336 units in May 2023. However, the company registered growth in export sales. Hero Moto Corp exports were up from 11,165 units in May 2023 to 18,673 units in May 2024.  Between July and September 2019, Hero Moto's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) fell 20% but it was much better than expected, according to the CLSA. But the management did not feel confident about a 'sustained recovery' in sales. Going forward, in the absence of a sharp recovery demand, the company may struggle to improve margin even as cost of production is expected to rise due to rollout of BS-VI models meant for lower emission. "Companies should find it difficult to pass on the full cost impact of the upcoming BS6 emission norms amid subdued demand and high competition," CLSA said. The stock has fallen 33% from its peak but it is still not cheap. "Our channel checks suggest that footfalls have dried up and only those OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) who have launched new models recently are getting some response from customers, " Nirmal Bang Institutional Equities said.  Consumer sentiment has suffered due to cost increase amid strict safety regulations, delay in monsoon, rural stress, slowing economy and liquidity constraints are weighing down car sales. But stocks of Maruti and M&amp;M seem bored of falling as investors have rued the declining fortunes for quite sometime now.  Luxury car makers have had it even tougher. 2018 was a bad year and the outlook is no better for the next couple of years. "2019 is going to be a challenging year. The next two years is not going to be easy for the overall luxury segment. While I do believe that sentiment will change in the second half of the year, it does not mean there is going to be a major increase, unless there are any drastic changes, any crucial changes that are related, again, to structures of taxes and duties," Rahil Ansari, Managing Director of Audi India, told Business Insider earlier. Audi is planning to launch three new models this year, the R8, A8, and the Q8, in India. But, the German car maker is not expecting the cars to fly off the showroooms.  The new axle-load norms rolled out in August 2018 allowed Indian trucks to carry about 20% more payload than earlier. Transporters re-registered their trucks with the Regional Transport Office to carry more stuff. This means there is a need for fewer trucks leading to an oversupply in the industry. Car makers in India may have more bad news to share on Monday

<ul><li><keyword id="7801263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tork-6x">Tork 6X</keyword> is likely to be ₹55,056 more expensive than Super Splendor, but will save ₹58,364 in running costs over 50,000 kms. </li><li>The users can breakeven on the higher initial costs of Tork 6X in 4 years. </li><li>Users can breakeven from the higher costs of electric scooter Ather S340 in 1.6 years, when compared to Honda Activa. </li><li>Electric scooters have become cheaper than petrol scooters as the life of lithium ion battery is 15 years while that of a petrol scooter is 10 years. </li></ul>Fewer Indians are open to the idea of hybrid or <keyword id="6354973" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles">electric vehicles</keyword>. Apart from trying the unknown, consumers are held back by fewer models along with prohibitive costs of electrical vehicles. The good news is that the costs are coming down. While the purchase price tag is high, the government eases this burden with incentives. In addition, the running costs of an electric vehicle, particularly two-wheelers, can provide enormous cost savings. Here is some math to support the theory. Tork 6X versus Super Splendor A report by Kotak Institutional Equities pegged the top most purchased motor bike Hero’s Super Splendor against a popular electric vehicle Tork 6X. Tork 6X is likely to be ₹55,056 more expensive than Super Splendor, even after adding in government incentives. But, it will also save running costs to the user by ₹58,364 in over 50,000 kms. Electric bike users can breakeven on the higher initial costs of Tork 6X in 4.7 years, on an average. If due to some reason the government decides to rescind the benefits, the breakeven time can move up to 6.6 years. There is something else that will weigh in favour of electric vehicles. The new BS-VI emission norms will kick in next year and make petrol bikes costlier by ₹7,000. It will truncate the time taken to breakeven to four years. However, the breakthrough in ownership of electric vehicles will be in 2030 when Kotak expects the electric battery costs to fall. “Currently the shift towards electric bikes is not significant because of lack of product availability in the market while the bigger players like Hero, Honda, Bajaj and <keyword id="87196" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS-Motors">TVS Motors</keyword> haven’t launched electric bikes. However most of these players are planning to launch electric bikes over the next 2-3 years,” the Kotak report said. Electric Scooters to be cheaper Scooter users might find it much easier to shift to electric vehicles as the total cost of ownership tilts heavily in favour of them. Considering increased price of normal scooters after new emission norms kick in, the breakeven between electric scooter Ather S340 and the most sold scooter, Honda Activa is pegged at 1.6 years. Also, the life of an electric scooter is much higher than a petrol scooter, making it a wiser option in the long run. “In terms of cost of ownership, electric scooters have become cheaper than petrol scooters as the life of lithium ion battery is 15 years while the life of a petrol scooter is 10 years,” the Kotak report says. Yet, electric bikes are yet to catch the fancy of the market. But, the shift to electric vehicles is inevitable. “The automobile industry is at the cusp of a revolution with adoption of cleaner vehicles (electric and <keyword id="935925" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="plug-in-hybrid">plug-in hybrid</keyword>) over petrol/diesel vehicles. We expect 28% of automobiles (except commercial vehicles) in India to shift to EVs by 2029-30 with scooters and three-wheelers adopting electric much faster than other segments,” the report said.

This has forced dealers to offer discounts that one has never heard of in this competitive industry. 
 
While market leader <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Hero-MotoCorps-Haryana-plants-face-the-brunt-of-Jat-reservation-stir/articleshow/51107956.cms">Hero MotoCorp</a> is offering discounts of up to Rs 12,500 on such vehicles depending on the segment; <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Guess-what-Honda-to-unveil-10-new-models-and-4-new-concepts-at-Delhi-Auto-Expo/articleshow/50719775.cms">HMSI</a>, which stands at the second spot, is offering a straight discount of Rs 10,000 on its BS-III scooters and motorcycles.

SC ban forces vehicle makers to offer heavy discounts on BS-III vehicles

<ul><li>A report by credit rating agency <keyword id="125045" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fitch-Ratings">Fitch ratings</keyword> says that the challenges are likely to persist for Indian <keyword id="144197" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-manufacturing">auto manufacturing</keyword> companies. </li><li>As carmakers have to comply with <keyword id="2901172" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BS-VI">BS VI</keyword> norms, it will result in increased production costs. </li><li>Auto sector has been undergoing a massive slowdown, with the first quarter results leaving top companies worried.</li></ul>The Indian auto industry has been witnessing one of its worst ever phases with sales slowing down for over 10 months now. But their troubles are far from over. There is more pain ahead in the form of new emission norms. Now, they also have to comply with BS-VI norms by March 2020. After this, the sale of older models will not be allowed, which is not good news for those holding onto huge inventory. It also means that the car companies have to invest in switching technologies. “The additional components and design changes will raise production costs by 10%-15%. This could squeeze automakers' profitability in FY21 if automakers are not able to fully pass on costs to buyers,” said a report by credit rating agency Fitch. Automakers are already on the backfoot and offering heavy discounts ranging from 8% to 27% depending on the model. Their ability to pass on increased costs seems to be bleak. <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> is leading the way with most ‘total cash discounts’ offered to consumers. While Alto models saw an 8% increase in discounts as compared to June, the Celerio Automatic and Dzire Diesel versions saw a steep increase of 23% and 27%. Most auto manufacturers reported their worst sales report for the first quarter in a decade. Auto companies like <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Hero Motocorp, have all been cutting production to align with the tapering demand. And these woes will continue. “Subdued demand conditions that led to weak performance by Indian automakers in the first quarter of the financial year ending 31 March 2020 (FY20) will likely persist, adding to the challenges from the implementation of stricter emission norms under BS6 from April 2020,” the report says. Maruti Suzuki’s profits fell by 27.3% for the first quarter. It sold 109,264 units in July 2019, registering a steep 33.5% fall in sales compared to the same month in the previous year. On a monthly basis, its July sales have fallen by 12.3% from its June. “My belief is that we are near the bottom of the downward cycle and the economy, and car sales should start to accelerate in the near future,” Marutii Suzuki’s chairman RC Bhargava <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/business/Industry/auto-industry-is-near-bottom-of-downward-cycle-maruti-suzuki-chairman-bhargava/article29267803.ece">said at the company’s annual general meeting.</a> Maruti Suzuki has also cut down on 3000 contractual jobs. Tata Motors’ sales in the domestic market dropped by 34% at 32,938 units compared to 50,100 units sold over last year as subdued demand continued in July 2019. The report said that the lowered sales was due to “the constrained liquidity at non-bank lenders reduced credit availability to buyers and the cost of ownership rose due to new regulations mandating enhanced vehicle insurance cover and additional safety features”.

Indian automakers are stuck between stricter emission laws and falling sales

New Delhi, Dec 2 () The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Monday reported 15.31 per cent decline in total sales to 5,16,775 units in November.
The company had sold 6,10,252 units in the same month a year ago, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.
Total motorcycle sales were at 4,79,200 units as compared to 5,43,982 units in November last year. Scooter sales stood at 37,575 units as against 66,270 units in the year-ago month.
Hero MotoCorp said its domestic sales during the month stood at 5,05,994 units as against 6,01,045 units in November last year, down 15.82 per cent.
Exports, however, grew 17 per cent at 10,781 units as compared to 9,207 units in the year-ago month.
"Following record festive retail sales in October 2019 and lowest-ever inventory in two-years, the November 2019 despatch numbers reflect Hero MotoCorp's intent to ensure a smooth transition to BS-VI norms," the company said.
In November the company said it commenced retail sales of BS-VI compliant motorcycle, Splendor iSmart with fuel injection technology.
Hero MotoCorp said it has scaled up production of its BS-VI vehicles, while discontinuing rolling out of several BS-IV models in an effort to migrate completely to the new emission era.

NEW DELHI: As it charts out a solo journey after the split from long-time partner <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword>, the Munjal-family run two-wheeler company <keyword id="6357252" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hero-MotoCorp">Hero MotoCorp</keyword> has appointed a top automobile designer from <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword>’s <keyword id="6355119" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMW">BMW</keyword> as the head of its R&amp;D division. 
 
Markus Braunsperger has been associated with the German auto major for a long time, heading the R&amp;D function for BMW’s Motorcycle division for several years. A biking enthusiast, Braunsperger has worked at senior positions across BMW’s R&amp;D, production and strategy divisions. 
 
He has also been associated with the company’s car division, being responsible for project management for BMW’s key product lines such as the 5/6/7 series as well as X3, X5 and X7 models. 
 Braunsperger will report to Hero vice chairman <keyword id="87849" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pawan-Munjal">Pawan Munjal</keyword> as the company works on developing new models for the Indian as well as international markets. While the split with Honda happened in early 2011, the Japanese auto major had brand and technology with Honda till the end of June this year. 
 
Munjal has been making efforts to beef up the R&amp;D capability of Hero Moto as the company builds up the crucial function from scratch. Last year, he had hired Markus Feichtner from the globally-renowned engine specialists, Austrian firm AVL to lead the “Engine Design &amp; Development” division within Hero’s R&amp;D function. 
 Braunsperger will join Hero in the first week of October and will take charge of the company’s design and product development functions. He is expected to drive in synergy between all of Hero’s technology partners — Erik Buell Racing (EBR) of the US, Engines Engineering of <keyword id="21474" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Italy">Italy</keyword> and AVL of <keyword id="21177" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Austria">Austria</keyword>. 
 
Hero, which holds 49.2% stake in EBR, will be launching the first of its completely new products — the HX 250R and the hybrid scooter Leap in the second half of this financial year. 
 
Braunsperger is expected to engage closely with the Hero team to work on the future product line of the company. He will lead the 500-strong team of engineers at Hero’s R&amp;D function. 
 
This R&amp;D function will be based out of the company’s upcoming “Hero Centre for Global Innovation and Research &amp; Design” at Kukas near Jaipur. 
 
Hero has developed three new engines to be fitted into its new products — 100cc, 110cc and 250cc engines. The 250cc engine will be with new Hero HX250R, expected to hit Indian roads in the second half of this fiscal. The 100cc and 110cc engines — with higher fuel efficiency and better overall performance — are likely to be fitted in the new commuter range of bikes that Hero is planning to launch.
