Electric two wheeler maker <keyword id="195740" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hero-electric" source="Orion">Hero Electric</keyword> on Monday said it will set up a Rs 1,200 crore two million units per annum mega electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub in Rajasthan. The company said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government at the Invest Rajasthan summit. According to the company, the proposed unit will be located at Salarpur industrial region over 170 acres and start production by the end of of 2023. "This mega manufacturing facility is part of our capacity enhancement to boost EV adoption across India. It will allow the state to spearhead clean mobility solution shift and promote ecological tourism practices," Naveen Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Electric, said. CEO Sohinder Gill said: "Green field facility of this mega size and large budget gives us the opportunity to introduce very energy efficient green manufacturing processes with a healthy blend of automation using robotic arms and the nimble-fingered skills of the local artisan workforce, using the clean solar energy that state provides." The proposed facility will manufacture all the current and upcoming Hero Electric two-wheelers, Hero Electric said. Hero Electric to set up ₹1,200 crore EV manufacturing plant in Rajasthan

<ul><li>The Supreme Court passed a new verdict on the purchase of electricity that includes shifting the burden of higher tariffs onto the consumer. </li><li>The burden amounts residents shelling out an additional ₹129,000 more for electricity in the coming 30 years. </li><li>As a result, residents of Haryana, Rajasthan, <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword>, Punjab and Maharashtra will most likely have to pay higher prices for their electricity consumption. </li></ul>India’s energy demands are the second largest in Asia, and petrol prices already surging in the country. And, after the Supreme Court’s decision enabling power producers to negotiate tariffs, <a href="https://thewire.in/energy/consumer-groups-set-to-oppose-gujarat-govt-bailout-of-private-power-plants-in-sc">electricity is set to get more expensive</a> in Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Maharashtra. The big-wigs in the electricity sector, <keyword id="45008" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> and <keyword id="76451" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani">Adani</keyword> demanded higher tariffs to balance their losses worth ₹220 billion owing to an increase in prices of coal by Indonesia. The price hike will only kick in once the power purchasing agreement is signed by Central Electricity Regulatory commission (CPEC). All the power consumers will then have to pay ₹129,000 more for their electricity bills spanned out over the next 30 years. The reason only five states will be hit by higher tariffs is because power distribution companies in those states have signed a long-term agreements. So excess burden will be shifted from Tata Power and Adani to these power distributors. If both companies manage to pass on the burden of their losses through negotiating terms and tariffs, their power plants can go back to functioning at full capacity. The burden imposed on Gujarat (₹900 billion) is the highest among all the five states, while people in Haryana will bear an additional cost of ₹180 billion against their electricity bills. Meanwhile consumers in Maharashtra and Rajasthan will have to pay up ₹100 billion and ₹50 billion respectively, according a recent media <a href="https://thewire.in/energy/consumer-groups-set-to-oppose-gujarat-govt-bailout-of-private-power-plants-in-sc">report</a> by The Wire. The controversy The Supreme Court recently approved the recommendation made by a high-powered panel <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/4H6pXdHODnFBlBrWKaDojO/SC-asks-CERC-to-decide-changes-in-PPAs-for-Tata-Adani-Essa.html">seeking changes in the power purchasing agreement</a>. The changes requested included shifting burden of higher tariffs on to consumers rather than the suppliers. So even though the decision by the Indian apex court is a relief for energy producers, it isn’t the best news for consumers. The electricity regulatory body CPEC has the new amendments to come into effect within two months. Challenging the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling, two consumer rights groups – Energy Watchdog and Prayas – <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/power-companies-to-get-1-9-lakh-crore-benefit-from-gujarat-bailout/articleshow/66407727.cms">filed a petition</a> with suggests of alternative solutions that the court could implement instead. The plants of Adani, Essar and Tata demanded to pass on burden of accumulated losses to power distributing companies after extending losses.

According to media reports, the incident was first reported on Wednesday, and the cause is thought to be a short circuit at the power socket from where the electric scooter was being charged overnight. "When contacted, the customer explained that he heard abnormal cracking sounds and discovered that fumes were coming from the electric switchboard of the home, adjacent to the e-scooter and sparks were continuously falling onto the floor and a can of paint lying nearby," the company said in a statement. "By the time he went on to switch off the mains and get back to try and put off the fire, it spread and burnt the rear part of the scooter and some household belongings," it added. The company reportedly mentioned that its technical team later visited the spot and analysed the rear part of the scooter that was burnt. "The most probable cause of the fire was the AC phase and earth wires of homecoming in contact with each other (causing a) short circuit and the malfunctioning of the fuses that should have cut off in the event of such a short circuit," the company said. "We have also offered any help to the customer in replacing the burnt parts on a cost basis and thoroughly testing his refurbished scooter for roadworthiness," it added. Hero Electric scooter catches fire in Odisha, no casualties or injuries were reported

AdGreen Energy (<keyword id="4621631" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="agel" source="Orion">AGEL</keyword>), the renewables arm of the Adani Group, on Friday announced that its fourth wind-solar hybrid power plant at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is fully operational and the asset has been capitalised. The combined operational generation capacity of this newly added hybrid power plant is 700 MW and has a power purchase agreement (PPA) at Rs 3.24/kwh for 25 years, according to a statement from the firm released on Friday. This new hybrid power plant consists of a combination of 600 MW solar and 510 MW wind plants. The company said its latest hybrid plant deploys advanced renewable technologies like bifacial solar PV modules and horizontal single-axis trackers (HSAT) systems to enable maximum electricity generation from solar energy. A bifacial panel can generate power from both sides, boosting overall electricity production. The plant is co-located and is designed to deliver capacity utilisation factor (CUF) of minimum 50 per cent, the highest CUF of any renewable project in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. The firm said the plant harnesses the potential of renewable energy by resolving intermittency of the generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the rising power demand. With this, AGEL's operating wind-solar hybrid portfolio has now reached 2,140 MW, continuing to be the largest in the world, according to the company statement. With the successful operationalisation of the 700 MW plant, the world's largest wind-solar hybrid power plant, AGEL now has the largest operating renewable portfolio in India with 8,024 MW, <keyword id="4343578" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="adani-green" source="Orion">Adani Green</keyword> said on Friday. The plant is housed under AGEL's 100 per cent subsidiary -- Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer Four Limited. "Earlier in May 2022, AGEL had operationalised India's first hybrid power plant of 390 MW," Adani Green said in the statement, adding that this was followed by the commissioning of the world's largest co-located hybrid power plant of 600 MW in September 2022 and the third hybrid power plant of 450 MW in December 2022. Adani Green says its operating renewable portfolio reaches 8,024 MW, largest in India

The company aims to manufacture close to three lakh electric vehicles per year at the new plant, which will eventually be increased to a capacity of 1 million or 10 lakhs in the next two-three years -- over five times the capacity of its current plant located in Alwar. The new manufacturing facility will also employ over 250 people. "The market is evolving at a fast pace, and the ramped-up capacity will undoubtedly aid us in bolstering the mass transition to e-mobility with a diverse and innovative product portfolio," said Jeetender Sharma, MD and Founder of <keyword id="143042" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="okinawa" source="Orion">Okinawa</keyword> Autotech. The expanded production capacity will enable Okinawa Autotech to not only meet soaring demand in India but also for exports globally. Okinawa Autotech opens second plant in India, to manufacture 10 lakh EVs per year by 2024

<keyword id="195740" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Electric">Hero Electric</keyword>, the electric two wheeler maker from India, has announced that it has entered into a pact with online platform Paytm to launch its new bike 'NYX', which would be priced at Rs 29,990 on-road. 
 
The product will initially be launched in 15 cities across India, and will be followed by availability of e-bikes across all the local dealerships of Hero Electric. 
 "Amid growing awareness about sustainability, we have decided to launch the <keyword id="3388786" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Electric-NYX">Hero Electric NYX</keyword> on World Environment Day to underline the importance of eco-friendly modes of transport. We are eyeing a target of 1000 units within the first two weeks of launch," said <keyword id="2436380" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sohinder-Gill">Sohinder Gill</keyword>, CEO Hero Electric.

Hero Electric’s new model NYX to be launched on Paytm

Sri Lanka's Board of Investment has approved the two wind power plants of AdGreen Energy to be built in <keyword id="248936" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mannar" source="Orion">Mannar</keyword> and Pooneryn at a total investment of USD 442 million. According to the statement released by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka on Friday, it has issued a letter of approval to <keyword id="76451" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="adani" source="Orion">Adani</keyword> Green Energy Limited, for the two wind power plants. Also, the new project will generate 1,500-2,000 new employment opportunities. The wind power plant in Mannar will operate at a capacity of 250 megawatt (MW) while the wind power plant in Pooneryn will operate at a capacity of 100 MW. The two wind power plants of 350 MW are scheduled to be commissioned in two years and accordingly, will be added to the national grid by 2025. <keyword id="82981" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fitch" source="Orion">Fitch</keyword> Ratings on Thursday affirmed the 'BBB-' ratings on the USD 400 million senior secured notes issued by the restricted group of India-based Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL, BBB-/Stable). According to the agreement the company signed with the Bangladesh government, Adani is setting up a power plant in the Godda district of Jharkhand and once the plant starts to produce power, it will supply electricity to Bangladesh. The report added that Bangladesh signed the deal with Adani Power back in 2017. Sri Lanka okays Adani's USD 442-millon wind power plants in Mannar and Pooneryn

The country's largest two-wheeler maker <keyword id="6357252" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hero-MotoCorp">Hero MotoCorp</keyword> on Tuesday launched BS-VI compliant version of its entry level 100 cc bike, HF Deluxe with price starting at Rs 55,925. The HF Deluxe BS-VI will be available at Rs 55,925 for self-start alloy-wheel variant and Rs 57,250 for self-start alloy i3S variant (prices ex-showroom Delhi) from the beginning of January 2020, the company said in a statement. The launch of HF Deluxe BS-VI follows the recent launch of the company's first-ever BS-VI product, Splendor iSmart.
 "With these products coming in quick succession, Hero MotoCorp is rapidly ramping-up its portfolio of BS-VI products and plans to transform its entire range to BS-VI norms very soon," it said.
 Commenting on the launch, Hero MotoCorp Executive Director - Operations (Plants) and Chief Technology Officer Vikram Kasbekar said: "At Hero MotoCorp, we have been working towards ensuring a smooth transition to the BS-VI norms, not just for us but also for all our stakeholders, the industry and most importantly the customers."
 He further said, "We are into the final leg of this transition phase and key products in our portfolio like the HF Deluxe are being transitioned now to ensure smooth ramp-up."
 Stating that the company's BS-IV inventories are low and will not be replenished going forward, Kasbekar added, "We will be introducing a slew of BS-VI products in the coming weeks."
 Hero MotoCorp Head - Global Product Planning Malo Le Masson said HF Deluxe has already entered the two-million sales club and commands well over two-third market share in the category.
 "With the new HF Deluxe BS-VI, powered by programmed FI (fuel injection) technology, we have further enhanced the performance and efficiency of the motorcycle."
 The company said the new HF Deluxe BS-VI has been designed and developed completely in-house at the company's R&amp;D hub, the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Hero MotoCorp launches HF Deluxe BS-VI starting at ₹55,925

<keyword id="45008" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> on Wednesday put its decision to shut operations at its 4,000 MW Mundra ultra mega power project (UMPP) on hold till March 20, in expectation of an acceptable solution for all parties over pass through of higher coal prices. Earlier, Tata Power arm Coastal <keyword id="1993775" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-Power-Ltd">Gujarat Power Ltd</keyword> (CGPL) which operates 4,000 MW Mundra plant had served notices to discoms of Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Maharashtra stating that its will stop supplying power from the plant from February 29 if tariff is not increased. Subsequently, the CGPL had served notices to the discoms for closure of the Mundra plant progressively from March 11 due to delay in adoption of the High Powered Committee recommendation and entering into supplemental <keyword id="511035" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-purchase-agreement">power purchase agreement</keyword> (PPA). Intervening the in issue the union power secretary S N Sahai convened at meeting of all concerned parties on the issue on March 9, 2020. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company said, "There were certain legal and contractual issues discussed pertaining to the PPA in light of the earlier and subsequent Supreme Court orders, which all parties have agreed to examine upon." The company further said, "It was agreed that the Union Power Secretary will re-convene another meeting within next 10 days so as to arrive at a decision on the same on or before March 20. "Given the positive discussions in this meeting and the intent expressed by all parties to arrive at an acceptable solution, CGPL awaits decision by 20th March and till such time normal operations of the Mundra plant will continue." In October 2018, the Supreme Court had directed the <keyword id="103658" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Electricity-Regulatory-Commission">Central Electricity Regulatory Commission</keyword> (CERC) to decide on changes to PPAs. The apex court had given the power regulator CERC, eight weeks to submit its decision on changes in PPAs that were signed by the three Gujarat-based power producers to reflect the higher cost of imported coal. Mundra UMPP is an imported coal-based power plant. The issue of higher coal cropped up after Indonesia changed certain regulation which increased the price of imported dry fuel. Thereafter it was not viable to supply power at the agreed tariff as per the PPA signed with the discosm by the CGPL. Tata Power has been pursing its case of pass through of higher coal prices. The company in its statement said, "The notices still remain valid and CGPL will consider appropriate decision on the notice of closure based on the outcome of these meetings. "We are reasonably confident of arriving at a solution for Mundra Plant in the next few weeks to avoid closure of the plant." The CGPL has inked PPAs to supply 1,805 MW to Gujarat, 760 MW to Maharashtra, 475 MW to Punjab, and 380 MW each to Rajasthan as well as Haryana.

Tata Power shuts down Mundra power project amidst a standoff on price hike

Cycles in India are synonymous with the brand Hero Cycles and now, the company has added to its portfolio – e-bikes. Having been in the business since 1956, the company finally made the move to e-bikes and the CEO of Hero Cycles Rohit Gothi believes that e-bikes will grow faster than electric cars or scooters in India. Hero has ambitious goals to have a significant share in the global cycles market. In India, the company had <a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/two-wheelers/scooters-mopeds/hero-cycles-posts-15-y-o-y-sales-growth-in-fy19/66606679">reported </a>a 15% year-on-year growth for FY19, having sold 31 million units. Hero launched Lectro – its electric bikes – in a pilot phase last year, it has also come up with an upgraded version Lectro+. Gothi said that the response has been encouraging and they have also started commercially selling the e-bikes. The multi-speed geared variant of the e-bike has been launched at a price of ₹26,999 while the gearless one will come at ₹18,999. “The best part about e-bikes is that from the cost of maintenance perspective they are fairly cheap, unlike other e-initiatives like car or scooter. They don’t need large scale charging infrastructure so we can really scale up soon,” said Gothi. Reports about Hero Cycles looking to expand its operations to Europe have also been doing the rounds. And Gothi said that it’s not just Europe but their vision is to move to the world. “In order to have a global presence, you need good manufacturing capabilities. We already have a company in Europe called Avocet and we are seriously contemplating various options in the US and UK,” he said. Another growing trend in India are bike rental startups with startups like Mobycy, Cykul (acquired by Dr Reddys). While bike rental has gained popularity, there have also been a few misses. Chinese bike rental startup Ofo which had made an India entry had to withdraw its business from the country. “We have a sister company – Hexi – which is in the public bicycle sharing space. INTERVIEW: One of India's oldest bicycle makers wants to make electric bikes for the world

He was 58 years old.
The plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power, said that Yoshida died of esophageal cancer. Experts have denied a link to the nuclear meltdown due to the speed of his illness.

Importantly, the first day after the earthquake, Yoshida ignored a requests from both Prime Minister Naoto Kan and senior Tepco officials to stop injecting seawater into the reactors. The official wants to use fresh water to cool the remaining fuel rods, hoping that they might be reused. Yoshida responded, "We don't have the option to use fresh water. That will cause further delays."
While Yoshida has faced some criticism for failing to prepare the plant for the risk of tsunami, his solemn response to handling the disaster led to a reputation as a hero. He reportedly asked staff left at the plant to write their names on a blackboard to keep a record of who was there, and had to be dissuaded from leading a "suicide mission" to try and pump more water in to one of the reactors himself.
“If Yoshida wasn’t there, the disaster could have been much worse,” <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-09/former-fukushima-nuclear-plant-head-masao-yoshida-dies-of-cancer.html">Reiko Hachisuka, the head of a business group in Okuma town</a> and one of a panel that investigated the accident, told Bloomberg today.
