A luxurious city with crystalline structures, sumptuous apartments, ritzy malls and shopping arcades—that’s what comes to mind when we think of Gurgaon. But behind the glossy veneer lies a darker side. Built as mandated by the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975, which encouraged the private sector to develop huge land parcels and build apartment blocks and office complexes, Gurgaon is an example of poor urban planning, mismanagement and malfunctioning infrastructure. The city that aims to become India’s <keyword id="6356662" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore">Singapore</keyword> by 2021 has poor air quality, roads with potholes and chaotic traffic to show for itself. Also consider the absence of public transport; a water table depleting at an alarming rate of 2-3 m per year; 8-10 hours of daily power cuts; sewage spilling on roads in the absence of waste management; 50 per cent of the population residing in haphazard conditions; and a high crime rate. 
 To make Gurgaon truly smart, all these issues must be considered by government agencies and private developers. For its part, the <keyword id="2970864" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurgaon-government">Gurgaon government</keyword> has come up with a zero-outage target to be achieved within a year; this smart energy grid vision offers scope—and hope—for the city to become smart. Smart water management and conservation and rainwater harvesting would lead to availability of water 24/7 while recharging groundwater. To enhance infrastructure services, smart infrastructure design and planning are needed in sync with local government initiatives. To tackle traffic issues, smart integrated mobility would reduce private vehicular traffic by providing better public transport and last mile connectivity and prediction and mitigation of congestion would lead to better air quality. And the mammoth structures of glass must turn smart, adding intelligence to buildings to conserve energy, and become responsive and interactive in order to fulfil the demands of occupants.

Majority of 2019 Lok Sabha election result prediction for Gurgaon opine that the sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh of the BJP will win from this seat once again. Gurgaon constituency elected Inderjit Singh, the BJP candidate from this constituency during 2014 general elections. He got 644,780 votes and the runner up in the constituency was Zakir Hussain of Indian National Lok Dal who got 370,058 votes. Notably, Rao Inderjit Singh of BJP won from Gurgaon in 2009 election also, but he fought on a Congress ticket during that election. The parliamentary constituency of Gurgaon comprises of 9 assembly constituencies. Gurgaon is one among the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state of Haryana. The key contesting candidates lined up eagerly waiting for Gurgaon election result 2019 are Rao Inderjit Singh of BJP, Captain Ajay Singh Yadav of the Congress party, Mehmood Khan of JJP, Pawan Kumar of SHS and Rais Ahmed of BSP. The total number of candidates who contested from Gurgaon is 22 which includes one female candidate. A thriving industrial base in the state of Haryana and the administrative headquarters of the state, Gurgaon has a population count of 1,514,432. The number of voters in the constituency as per the 2014 election statistics is 1,244,437 comprising of 579,905 males and 664,532 females. There are 1308 polling stations in the constituency. Gurgaon is one of the most important constituencies in India that plays a significant role in the state as well as parliamentary elections. During Lok Sabha elections 2019 polling Gurgaon constituency recorded 67% voting which was down from the 71% observed in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. As per the message published by the Election Commission, the voter turnout in Gurgaon during 2019 general elections was good when compared with the averages gathered from the other constituencies of Haryana.

Gurgaon is home to many a BPO, MNC and IT office. Employees based out of the millennial city have to continue working from home until the end of July, according to state officials. Around mid-March, the Gurgaon district administration has issued an advisory asking companies to allow their employees to work from home. “As of now, it appears this advisory for work from home will continue till the end of July. All those who have offices in Gurgaon should continue to work from home to the extent possible,” said Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority CEO V S Kundu. He is in charge of handling the COVID-19 crisis in the district. Most companies have already declared that working from home may be the ‘new normal’ for them. They have also highlighted how there’s been an increase in employee productivity since the commute time has drastically been cut down. Most people, it would take at least one-and-a-half to two hours in either direction to travel between office and home. However, he pointed out that many real estate projects, including those which fall under DLF, will be allowed to resume work provided they follow all social distancing norms. “Construction sites where labourers are already staying on the site or those where labourers stay within walking distance are allowed to resume work while adhering to social distancing norms,” said Kundu. So far, there have been 51 reported cases of the Coronavirus in Gurgaon. Of these, 35 have recovered. Nonetheless, it has been declared a red zone by the Harayan government since it’s one of the worst affected districts in the state alongside Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad. Kundu described the situation in Gurgaon as “fairly under control” and said there is no evidence of community transmission. Gurgaon has effectively been under lockdown since March 22 – two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a pan-India shutdown to stem the spread of the disease. This gave the administration a head start and enabled it to handle the situation effectively, the official said. Gurgaon-based employees may have to ‘work from home’ until the end of July, according to Haryana officials

 An ASSOCHAM report recently pointed out that with live <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> of Rs 3.5 lakh crore out of Rs 5 lakh crore attracted by Haryana in live projects, <keyword id="6361586" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gurgaon">Gurgaon</keyword> accounted for almost 70 per cent of total investments in the last fiscal (FY 2014-15). 
 
Factors like availability of skilled manpower and proximity to strong consumption markets in north India have helped Gurgaon evolve as a manufacturing and industrial hub attracting investments mainly from private sector in information technology (IT), information technology enabled services (ITeS), mechanical, electrical, textile, chemical and other sectors. 
 
Adorned with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Warning-bells-for-GAP-HM-opens-its-largest-store-in-Gurgaon/articleshow/49659438.cms">shopping malls</a> that show off <keyword id="5940" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Louis-Vuitton">Louis Vuitton</keyword> and Gucci products via the glass panes of the high end shops, world-class golf courses that are spread majestically over hundreds of acres, a commercial hub called cyber city that’s home to some of the world’s finest corporations, a cyber hub that has got the best restaurants, automobile showrooms that flaunt shimmering Mercedes and BMWs, it’s not a surprise that Gurgaon is the highest revenue grosser of the state. 
 There is an unquestionable glam quotient to it, something that has earned it the ‘<keyword id="617262" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Millenium-City">Millenium city</keyword>’ tag over two decades. If you ever take a metro ride in the evening, it looks heavenly as Singapore. But mind you, only in the evening. 
 A stroll through the roads during the day may not be a very pleasant sight. On the outside, it may look like the place to be in. There’s an underlying opportunity for everyone here - IT giants, <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="real-estate">real estate</keyword> developers, hospitals, car companies, hotel chains to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Global-FMCG-firms-are-conspiring-against-Patanjali-accuses-Baba-Ramdev/articleshow/50818825.cms">FMCG companies</a> – except on the inside consider what it does not have: organized public transport system and pothole-free roads, a properly functioning sewage and drainage system, strict police vigil, assured water and electricity supply, policy for discharging toxic waste and garbage generated by hospitals and clinics, well-spread sporting centers so on and so forth. 
 
Year by year, spiraling towers multiply but so do the potholes on the roads and the amount of garbage thrown by residents on the roadside. What happens afterwards is for everyone to see on TV channels. A complete chaos-like situation ensues at Gurgaon hospitals. Dengue patients can be seen lying on the floor despite paying for expensive consultations at a swanky Medanta or Fortis. The lucky ones get stuffed in the balconies in a handful of poorly managed, often stinking government hospitals for want of beds. The unlucky ones die because there were no beds. Let's not even talk about the crime rate. 
 
With such sad state of affairs, Gurgaon has registered faster implementation of investment projects as almost 95 per cent of these projects are under different stages of implementation while only about five per cent of investment projects have remained non-starter, the ASSOCHAM study highlights. 
 
Fittingly, in this city that is emblematic of India's privatized aspirations, there is no place for the common man's woes. How then can it claim fame on an international level for world-class facilities in the absence of basic ones on the ground? 
 
Having said that, it does get the maximum revenues for the state which clearly are not diverted towards ensuring public welfare, thanks to a corrupt governance system in place. Two decades on, still erratic, unplanned, sporadic and lacking in infrastructure, Gurgaon offers the perfect example of how not to urbanize and revolutionize India in the coming years. Call it irony, but the fact of the matter is it's simply a failed Millennial City despite being the highest revenue grosser state of Haryana.

Think, light installations, funky decor and most importantly a trip back into time, thanks to its ‘back to college’ theme. 
 
The gigantic single floor restaurant, which opened its doors last weekend, has different spaces dedicated to different activities that are bound to keep you entertained. 
 
Walking up a flight of stairs will lead you to a narrow corridor that opens up to a library, replete with bookshelves. They’ve even gone ahead and made the light installations out of actual books. All, in all, the decor is pretty sweet. 
 
 
 
There’s also a mixology lab, a classroom, a canteen, an amphitheatre and a hostel room with bunk beds. (which can be booked for a small party). There’s also a jeep and a food truck parked outside and you can even take your drinks and sip on them while sitting on the scootys that double up as sofas. There’s also a projector in literally every room and last but not the least, there’s also a lover’s corner- because why not? 
 
 
 
 The food is rather innovative as well. The cuisine that <keyword id="32888" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="prankster">Prankster</keyword> is serving can be labelled- progressive nostalgia. The huge menu boasting of over 150 innovative dishes each have their unique story and are bound to take you back to your college days. Basically, all your comfort food, served in a way that you would have never imagined. Rational or irrational, from now on Gurgaon will be known as Gurugram. Yes, the Millennium City which houses some 250 Fortune 500 companies got its name out of epic roots. 
 
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar-led government said he was keeping his promise made during elections and changed the name to Gurugram as Guru Dronacharya, the guru of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata, had his ashram here. 
 
The news came as a rude shock to people of the Millennium City, especially those who were sitting at Cyberhub and sipping pinacoladas, who also suddenly realised they were in Gurugram now. 
 
People of ‘Gurugram’ were not even recovering from the news when Twitter took potshots at the government and the name

Good morning Gurugrammers; Twitter is rubbing salt into the wounds as Gurgaon will now be known as Gurugram

Uber has always believed in changing the way urban people move around, which is why it has announced a pilot of Uber's bike-sharing product -<keyword id="3259663" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="uberMOTO">uberMOTO</keyword> in Gurgaon, the city that observes a car-free day every Tuesday to help reduce traffic on the roads. Bengaluru was the first Indian city to get the services of uberMOTO. 
 
"UberMOTO works towards the vision of reducing congestion by helping fill every empty seat on the bikes on road. It enables riders to push a button and share a motorbike ride within minutes. It’s a great way for people to save time and money on short trips across town and provides last mile connectivity--especially to and from the metro stations." Said Gagan Bhatia, GM, Uber Delhi. 
 
The project would help cut traffic congestion in Gurgaon by getting people out of their cars when they don’t need to use them, and also by encouraging motorbike drivers to share their rides with fellow passengers. The move has come after the launch of Uber’s carpooling service, which is designed to get more people into fewer cars. 
 
Here’s how UberMOTO would work in the millennium city. 
 
· Choose the uberMOTO option in the Uber app and enter your location and payment method before requesting for a ride. 
· The driver’s details would come to you straight away, including the name, photo and details of the motorbike. 
· Since Gurgaon requires all riders and drivers to wear a helmet, uberMOTO driver will have one helmet ready for you. 
· For your safety, all of Uber’s standard product safety features would be put to use, including GPS tracking, 2-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends. 
· When the trip ends, share the cost by cash or mobile wallet and get an electronic receipt on mail. 
 
Talking of the prices, uberMOTO starts at Rs 15 + Rs 3 /km + Rs 1/min, with the minimum fare being ₹ 20.

Uber launches uberMOTO in Gurgaon

Property prices in <keyword id="6361586" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurgaon">Gurgaon</keyword>, which has witnessed one of the leanest sales in the past few years, is all set to pick up. 
 
According to industry experts, while Gurgaon has the highest number of unsold inventory, 22,000 units of the overall 1,70,000 units in Delhi-NCR, things seems to be falling in place. 
 
“Gurgaon is the hub of the service industry in NCR, and surrounding areas are becoming increasingly important in the manufacturing sector. The government’s 'Make In India' initiative will ensure more industries, and this will directly result in increased housing demand,” said Ashwinder Raj Singh, CEO of Residential Services, JLL India. 
 
One must remember that several companies have now been shifting their base to Gurgaon or the outskirts of the satellite city as the commercial rentals in Delhi have skyrocketed. 
 
Besides, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Heres-why-RBI-governor-Raghuram-Rajansno-rate-cuts-decision-is-a-wise-move/articleshow/49994748.cms">RBI’s</a> recent stance of no policy-cut will force the banks to pass on the previous rate cuts to the end consumer by lowering interest rates on the home loan. 
 
Builders too would want to get rid of their unsold inventory, hence, the prices of the properties are expected to come down or be tagged with attractive discounts. However, the only challenge that comes to the mind is the fact that most of the new projects or unsold inventory lies in parts that are currently inhabitable. 
 But Singh feels that the commercial activity coupled with attractive discounts is bound to lure home buyers to the city’s <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate">real estate</keyword> market. He also credited the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PM-Modi-to-announce-20-smart-cities-in-January/articleshow/50379889.cms">Modi government’s</a> policy <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Revised-real-estate-bill-to-bring-relief-for-buyers-ensures-faster-action-against-defaulters/articleshow/50122879.cms">reforms</a> such as ease in <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> norms to boost the real estate market. 
 
“Is it all wishful thinking? On the contrary - there is strong logic involved. The country's economic slowdown has troughed out, and the only way is up. The government has woken up to the fact that the real estate sector needs real help, and is making very favourable policy decisions. For a city like Gurgaon that needs only a small amount of stimulus to get up and running again, the winds of change are blowing strong. The changes will not happen overnight, but 2016 will bring visible progress on the ground,” he clarifies. 
 
Well, while forecasts about the country’s key real estate markets can be done to the heart’s content, there is no denying the fact that Gurgaon is no more a developer’s market and the shots can only be called by the home buyers!

Can Gurgaon’s property market really pick up?

Feel for the earth. That’s what the commuters in Guragon need to realize on every Tuesday. Come September 22, the Gurgaon traffic police will observe every Tuesday as 'Car-Free Day' (CFD). 
 
In a bid to free the city roads from congestion and encourage people to use alternate modes of transportation, the city will be celebrating 'Car Free Day' (CFD). 
 
This is an initiative by Gurgaon Administration which is organised by Gurgaon Traffic Police and Gurgaon Municipal Corporation with support from NASSCOM, Embarq India, Raahgiri Foundation and Rapid Metro. 
Joint Commissioner of Police Bharti Arora said that with one lakh new cars being registered every year in Gurgaon, this was the best time for the city to take up the 'Car Free' challenge. 
 
While the whole of Gurgaon will celebrate this initiative from 7 am to 7 pm every Tuesday, four major IT corridors have been identified to make the campaign more concentrated - DLF Cyber City, Cyber Park area, Golf Course Road and Electronic City- which have the heaviest traffic flow in the city. 
 
The move will be enforced by the Gurgaon Police who have sourced 20 cranes from MCG and DLF, which will be employed equally in all four corridors to tow away cars parked on roadsides and taken to Leisure Valley Park. 
 
The only parking available would be those at Cyber Park and other institutional and commercial parking spaces. 
 
Rapid Metro has decided to increase the frequency of trains to 3-3.5 mins which would mean 225 trains and reduced waiting time for users. 
 
Feeder buses will be provided from major metro stations like Huda City Centre, Sikanderpur, Indus Bank Cyber City and from Kapashera border to the major IT hubs of the city, Arora said.

Gurgaon to go green every Tuesday

The Chief Minister of Haryana, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Manohar+Lal+Khattar">Manohar Lal Khattar</a> inaugurated the 4.5 lakh sqft office complex that would be home to over 5000 Snapdeal employees. 
 
Founded in 2010, the e-commerce startup has come a long way since its humble beginnings at the Okhla campus in South Delhi. 	He further added that with BJP at the centre focusing on developing the infrastructure in the country, both Maharashtra and Haryana can expect the maximum infrastructural growth as the states will now be governed by BJP at the state level as well. 
	 “The ensuing boost to growth will not be limited to just <keyword id="6358070" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> and Gurgaon. Given the limited land available for development in the two cities and factoring in the BJP's strong focus on faster and more holistic growth, there is now added impetus for development in their peripheral areas on the charts, as well. Infrastructure such as highways and MRTS projects which will connect these areas to their parent cities will automatically boost their real estate markets,” noted Kumar. 
	 
	Currently, both the states collectively comprise of nearly 35% of the total real estate market in the country. At present, there are three major PPP Infrastructure PPP projects in pipeline in Mumbai, which includes the Navi Mumbai International Airport at Panvel, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link that has been delayed since 2004 and the expansion of Mumbai Metro.
