The situation is said to be under control though as of now. Naku La, incidentally, was one of the original face-off sites, along with Pangong Tso, Galwan, Gogra, Hot Springs, in early-May last year. The government source said the clash took place three days ago. It happened while both the countries' government and military were readying for another round of talks to resolve border dispute along the 3,488 kilometre-long <keyword id="49399" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Actual-Control">Line of Actual Control</keyword>. On Sunday, India and China held a 16-hour long marathon military dialogue that eneded at after 2 a.m. on Monday to resolve the ongoing nineth month long border dispute and thinning of forces along the LAC. The ninth Corps Commander level talks between both the countries took place at the Moldo Meeting point in Ladakh region. It had started at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday and ended at 2.30 a.m. on Monday. Lieutenant General P.G.K. Menon, the Corps Commander of Leh-based HQ 14 Corps, led the Indian delegation. India has sought complete disengagement and withdrawal of forces from the disputed areas. It happened after almost two months after the last dialogue. The details of the meeting were yet to come. The military commanders will convey the details of the meeting to the Prime Minister Office. On June 15, 2020, India lost 20 soldiers during a violent clash at Galwan Valley with Chinese People's Liberation Army soldiers. Chinese never made their casualty public. India and China are engaged in a nine-month-long standoff at the LAC. Despite several levels of dialogue, there has not been any breakthrough and the deadlock continues. US government sources: Al Shabaab was behind a suspected bomb attack on a Somali passenger plane

If things go as planned, the requirement of mandatory domestic sourcing for <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> would be waived off, allowing the tech giant to open its own retail outlets in India. 
 
Apple has always been keen on opening its own stores in India, but has faced roadblocks from the policy requirement of mandatory sourcing of 30% of the goods from within the country, because the lack of vendors who can fulfill this need. Now that there have been some changes in the policy, Apple is looking forward to government’s nod, citing that it fulfills the conditions of 'state-of-the-art' and 'cutting-edge technology'. 
 
It was on Tuesday that Apple had made a presentation before a committee headed by industrial policy and promotion secretary Ramesh Abhishek. In the presentation, it made a case for use of the special provision, and the decision would be announced in the coming few days. 
As per some TOI sources, Apple fits for the relaxation of these norms. "Their products certainly meet the requirement for waiving the local sourcing clause," a source told TOI. 
 
To gain more confidence from the government, Apple has also indicated that it may start producing in India in the future, while adding that it has no immediate plans of selling refurbished phones in the country. 
 
Rival phone makers Xiaomi and LeEco had also proposed to open single-brand retail outlets, but their proposals are yet to be taken up by the authorities.

Government could waive off the 30% sourcing norm for Apple to open stores in India

<keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tim+cook&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tim Cook’s</a> India visit could not please the Centre as the government is not relaxing a local content sourcing norm for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Apple&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Apple</a>. 
 This comes as a big blow to Apple as the <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> maker wants to set up Apple stores in India and tap the fastest growing <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smartphone+market+in+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">smartphone market</a> in the country. 
 
This means, Apple will have to meet the 30 per cent local content sourcing requirement even if it sets up single-brand retail stores in India. 
 
"Apple's proposal is acceptable to us but we cannot make an exception for it and forego the sourcing requirement if it wants to set up its own stores here," a senior government official told ET. 
 
The iPhoner maker had applied for the relaxation under new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=FDI&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">FDI</a> rules for companies. 
 
"There was no technical person in the cutting-edge panel, no substantial backing to the claim that there was cutting-edge technology. A broad policy needs to be in place to define what is cutting edge. It has to be there upfront in the policy. Otherwise it would be open to discretion and charges of corruption," the second official told ET. 
 As per the new policy, companies that bring cutting-edge technology to India can open single-retail brand stores without meeting the <keyword id="2011197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="local-sourcing-norm">local sourcing norm</keyword>. 
 
Apart from Apple, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=xiaomi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Xiaomi</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=leeco&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">LeEco</a> have also sought to open their own stores in India. 
 
Presently, Apple sells its products in India through a network of franchisee-owned stores and sales crossed the $1-billion mark in 2014-15.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson quits after dozens of ministers resign over his conduct

New Delhi, Mar 6 () Vodafone Global CEO Nick Read has told the government that the company wants to make a new and good beginning in India, according to sources. Read -- who met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad separately on Friday -- sought government assistance to keep Vodafone Idea afloat, the sources added. Sources said during his meeting, Prasad made it clear that the government is against a monopoly in the telecom sector, and wants Vodafone Idea to survive and remain invested in India. The sources said the minister conveyed India's growing economic clout and its attractiveness to foreign investors, as also the enormous size of its market. The minister pointed out that the company has 30 crore subscribers in India and that the telecom market presents huge opportunities. India wants fair competition, the minister is learnt to have told the Vodafone CEO. Sources said Read also acknowledged that the AGR issue should have been addressed long back by the company. New Delhi, The Indian <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> has sent a notice to <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword>, warning the social media platform of penal action over non-compliance of its order to <keyword id="10699637" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="remove-accounts">remove accounts</keyword> and <keyword id="6406419" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tweets">tweets</keyword> which alleged "<keyword id="10699638" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmer-genocide">farmer genocide</keyword>" in the country, sources said. Content with the hashtag "#ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide" were posted on Twitter, which, according to the government, was designed to "inflame passions" and "hatred". The notice issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY) held that it motivated the campaign to abuse, inflame and create tension in society on "unsubstantiated" grounds. The ministry also said that incitement to genocide is not freedom of speech but a threat to law and order. Citing that Twitter unilaterally unblocked accounts and tweets despite the government order, the notice said that that Twitter is an intermediary and is obliged to obey the direction of the government and refusal to do so will invite penal action. MEITY had passed an interim order dated January 31, as a matter of emergency, for blocking 257 URLs and 1 hashtag under Section 69 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. As per the government, the interim order was issued on the ground that the said Twitter URLs and hashtag are spreading misinformation about protests and has the potential to lead to imminent violence affecting public order situation in the country. The notice cited the "public order issue" of January 26 and said that the statutory authorities are doing everything possible to ensure that no adverse public order situation takes place and no cognisable offences are committed. It further said that the ministry is in receipt of the platform's reply dated February 1, 2021, wherein Twitter has declined to abide and obey the order issued by the Indian government. "Section 69A of the Act provides jurisdiction to the Central government in cases wherein it considers it necessary or expedient to direct an intermediary to block for access for public and or cause to be blocked for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource if the government is satisfied that the same is necessary or expedient in order to prevent incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence relating to public order," the notice read. "The direction to block the hashtag #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide has been found to be instigating people to commit cognizable offences in relation to public order and security of the state," it added. The notice highlighted that Section 69A (3) provides for specific penal consequences in case of non-compliance of the directions issued under Section 69A of the Act. Government warns Twitter over non-compliance of order to remove accounts and tweets related to 'farmer genocide', say sources

New Delhi, Jan 10 () The Centre is mulling introducing mobile testing labs at 21 ports across the country in a bid to ensure imported fertilisers reach farmers on time after a quality check, government sources said on Friday.
 Currently, imported fertilisers are tested by Faridabad-based Central Fertiliser Control and Quality Institute (CFCQI) as well as three regional centres that come under the agriculture ministry.
 As per the Fertiliser (Movement Control) Order, imported fertilisers are permitted for distribution only after testing the commodity.
 "However, due to delay in testing on part of CFCQI, consignments get stuck at ports. There were instances in the past, when some consignments were released without waiting for the test reports on pressure to meet farmers' demand in a particular season," a highly placed government source said.
 When the tested samples were found to be of inferior quality after releasing the consignments from ports, their distribution was later stopped at different levels, the source said, adding this was one of the cases.
 But now the issue is being addressed seriously as the government is committed towards supplying quality fertilisers to the farming community, the source added.
 To keep a check, another source said, the fertiliser ministry has recently issued an advisory asking importing companies to stop distribution of fertilisers if they see any issue about the quality and the same should be informed to the ministry immediately.
 The other plan that the ministry is working on is to set up mobile testing labs at 21 ports to ensure the tests are done quickly on a real-time basis and consignments are released for distribution without any delay, the source added.
 It may be noted that import of fertilisers other than urea is free and on private account it is done under the open general licence. Various companies import fertilisers as per their commercial judgement.
 The month-wise demand is assessed and projected by the agriculture ministry in consultation with state governments before the commencement of each crop season. Based on that, the fertiliser ministry allocates fertilisers to states by issuing monthly agreed supply plan as per the Fertiliser (Movement Control) Order.
 State governments are regularly advised to coordinate with manufacturers and importers of fertilisers for streamlining the supplies through timely placement of indents.
 The country imported 188.43 lakh tonne of fertilisers during 2018-29. Of this, urea comprised 74.81 lakh tonne, Di-Ammonium Phosphate 66.02 lakh tonne, Muriate of Potash (MoP) 42.14 lakh tonne and NPK at 5.46 lakh tonne, as per the government data. LUX ANU

New Delhi (India), July 10 (ANI): In a major development, India is planning to buy 26 Rafale fighter aircraft and three <keyword id="4045841" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scorpene-class" source="Orion">Scorpene class</keyword> conventional submarines from France. The proposals have been placed before the Defence Ministry by the defence forces and are likely to be announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France this week, government sources told ANI. As per the proposals, the Indian Navy will get 22 single-seated Rafale Marine aircraft along with four trainer aircraft. The Navy had been pressing for acquiring these fighter aircraft and submarines urgently as they have been facing shortages in view of the security challenges around the country. The aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and Vikrant have been operating the MiG-29s and need the <keyword id="925199" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rafales" source="Orion">Rafales</keyword> for operations on both carriers. Meanwhile, the three Scorpene class submarines would be acquired under the repeat clause by the Navy as part of Project 75 where they would be built in the Mazagon Dockyards Limited in Mumbai. The deals are estimated to be worth over Rs 90,000 crore but the final cost would be clear only after the contract negotiations are completed which will be held after the deal is announced. India is likely to seek price concessions in the deal and would be insisting on having more 'Make-in-India' content in the plan, sources said. Industry sources said for the Rafale M deal, India and France are expected to form a joint team to negotiate the deal like it was done for the previous Rafale deal for 36 fighter aircraft. The proposals have been discussed in the defence ministry at high-level meetings already and are likely to be placed before the defence acquisition council in the next few days and expected to be accorded Acceptance of Necessity by the government before the announcement in France.
