In his keynote address, General Rawat said today India is "facing increased <keyword id="969118" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="security-challenges">security challenges</keyword> and the best guarantor to peace and stability is to have dissuasive deterrence." Though the Chief of the Defence Staff of <keyword id="9455912" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-indian-armed-forces">the Indian Armed Forces</keyword> did not mention India's ongoing standoff with China along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh for the last seven months, he alluded to the Asian neighbor in several references to the Indo-Pacific region. For nations like India, General Rawat said, the security of land and borders remains a primary concern. "Therefore, there is a need to develop integrated structures to ensure modernization programs to be undertaken by our armed forces based on the correct assessment of the nature of threats and challenges. In addition, we are also partnering with like-minded nations to ensure peace and stability in our region." "Our approach to security needs to shift from a unilateral mode to multilateral mode, which mandates increasing training, engagements with partner nations so as to fructify joint response in the future," he added. The US, he said, recognizes Indo-Pacific as consequential for its future, adding that similarly, Japan, Australia, France, the UK, Indonesia, and Germany also find the region of strategic importance to them. However, China's rise as a military and economic power has made the region highly contestable. Based on the challenges India faces as a rising regional power, he said, "We require structured a long time planning for capacity building and development of our defense forces. In a quest to building a stronger India, we need a peaceful and stable security environment." "We need to maintain strategic autonomy and cooperative relations with extra-regional powers, regional linkages. We need to build bilateral, trilateral and multilateral mechanisms like Japan, Australia and India (JAI), India-Asean and similar existing mechanisms to have the right balance in our strategic autonomy." Technology, he said, will play an important role in any nation's quest for supremacy, be it in the military or any other sphere of activity. Therefore, investment in research and development will determine the future course of action for any enterprise, he said. However, he warned, "Quest to acquire proprietary rights on technology must not deny benefits of development to the global community at large. It must, in fact, create linkages between the haves and have nots. Humanity must not be guided by profiteering alone but must consider an equal opportunity for growth for all." In the military, he said, technology must become the means of deterrence and not a source of destruction. "Technology must benefit mankind and not be used for destroying existing systems." General Rawat ended his address on a positive note saying that this is India's century. "Many across the world are bullish about India. It has the talent, demographic dividend, and vibrancy of culture," he asserted. Army chief calls on India's allies for 'dissuasive deterrence' against China in the Indo-Pacific

New Delhi, Feb 29 () External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand are some of the notable names taking part in the upcoming Centre for Policy Research's (CPR) annual public forum. The two-day conclave, titled "CPR Dialogues 2020: Policy Perspectives for 21st Century India", will commence at the India Habitat Centre here on Monday. The aim, according to organisers, is to "provide a window to the India of the future" and "debate the significant development and policy challenges that India faces in the coming decade". It proposes to address a wide spectrum of pressing topics like air pollution, public education, agriculture, geopolitics, state capacity, technology and law, they added. "Some of the issues that will be addressed during the CPR Dialogues are: As norms of engagement and the global order change, how should India define its geopolitical position?, Can the Indian state deliver cutting edge public services to all its citizens and build 21st century public institutions? and How can India create productive jobs while responding to challenges of technology, rapid urbanisation and global economic changes?, among others," read a statement from the organisers. The company has also aligned itself with other businesses on the issue, including the Business for Inclusive Growth coalition sponsored by French President Emmanuel Macron. "I'm an eternal optimist ... I believe that people will respond," Reid said. How was being a private company able to empower you to make these big commitments when it comes to sustainability?Grant F. Reid: Yeah, it's a great question. And, you know, I would say it was fundamental because, you know, we have family ownership, we have family members who are passionate in this space. In fact, in 1947, so before this was even fashionable, one of our owners wrote a letter to everyone in the company, and it actually said that our role is much bigger than just making profit. It's about, how do you deal with all your stakeholders, all the way through the value chain. So it's in our DNA, it's something we're very proud of, it's something we've always done, but it's been relatively low-key.You know, for the first 100 years, we let our brands do the talking. Everybody knew M&amp;M's, everybody knew Pedigree, everybody knew Twix, everybody knew Uncle Ben's, but not so much about, I think, the DNA of the company itself, and things have changed now in building that reputation, so we've said, we've put a billion dollars into <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mars-climate-change-investment-global-warming-sustainability-plan-greenhouse-gas-2017-9">Sustainable in a Generation,</a> and we're fully committed, the family's behind it, and we didn't have to convince, you know, financial analysts it was a good idea. We just had the trust and the support of our family, and it allowed us to make those generational, generational decisions.Taylor: Do you think that other companies could be doing more on this topic?Reid: We could all be doing more, honestly, ourselves included, but there are some, there's a lot of really good work out there, and we're not doing it all ourselves, you know, we're doing a lot ourselves, but we're also trying to build a coalition for change. You know, trying to create an entity that's bigger than any one company, and we're doing that in conjunction with companies, and we're doing it in conjunction with NGOs and governments to really create that catalyst for change, which will benefit everyone.Taylor: Gen Z, obviously, sustainability is a huge issue for them. How does that connect to what Mars is focusing on when it comes to sustainability?Reid: Gen Z's looking for a number of things, and, you know, first of all, to attract them to your brands, to attract them to your company and to get them to stay, you've got to have a higher-order purpose, you know? And that's where "the world we want tomorrow starts with how we do business today," I think, is such a great calling. And then you superimpose the individual areas, like, "creating a better world for pets," or "better food today for a better world tomorrow," from the different segments, that's a big attraction.Then, I think the brands themselves, you know, are really very powerful for Gen Z. But what we've been trying to do is, and, the data's pretty clear, it says, Gen Z's looking for more transparency, they're looking to see what is it you're doing with your brands and your company that's really good for the environment, and how can I be part of that?Taylor: What do you think is a long-term trend that not enough people are talking about? What should people be looking at more?Reid: I'd love for people to talk, be talking more about sustainability. Even though it has increased dramatically, I think we still have so much work to do, you know, whether it's plastics in the ocean or whether it's greenhouse gas emissions or forced labor in the supply chain. I'd like consumers to be talking about it more, making their positions on purchases tied to that, because I think that will really help create a more forward momentum to solve some of those issues.I mean, right now, the global supply chain is broken. We're taking more - not Mars, but in total - we're taking more out of the planet than is sustainable. And we have to fix that. And to do that is going to take a coalition of the willing to provide that leadership to bring a momentum behind it, to mobilize NGOs, mobilize companies, to mobilize people, and to mobilize countries to solve those issues.Taylor: The idea of a broken supply chain is both very depressing but also kind of really sums up the issue in a very vivid way. What happens if we don't fix this kind of broken system we have right now?Reid: Yeah, so I'm not trying to depress you, I'm just trying to motivate you, which is to say, you know, we need to take action. And I think, cutting to the chase, any time you're using more resources than is sustainable is broken, by definition. And so I think that's the opportunity, so I look at those things with an optimist's view. I guess I'm an eternal optimist, which is, I believe that, you know, human evolution, I believe that people will respond, you know, at first they'll deny, then they'll be angry, but then they'll actually help drive the change, and I can see quite a bit of that change coming.There's some, you know, companies that are doing some great things, I mean, we've got this Business for Inclusive Growth that President Macron and Danone are leading in France. I think more of those initiatives, through the UN and other vehicles, will <keyword id="46801" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="prime">prime</keyword> the pump and will get it done.Taylor: Definitely. And if companies that maybe haven't taken action yet are looking for a way to take action or are weighing the cost of taking action versus not taking action, what message would you give to those leaders?Reid: I would say join groups that are going through a like-minded experience, you know, things like the Consumer Goods Forum is a great place to join because that's retailers and manufacturers working together to wrestle with some of these issues. I would say talk to companies who are on that journey, where, you know, we are on that journey, we haven't solved it ourselves, so we are open to dialogue and open to input and different approaches.And take a long-term view. You know, if you take a one- or two-year view, then you probably won't do anything. If you take a generational view and take a more holistic view, I mean, we have what we call the Economics of Mutuality, which talks not only about financial capital but human, social, environmental capital. If you take a more holistic view of the issue you're trying to solve, you'll probably be a lot more successful.

Including responses from 1,581 officers spanning 83 territories, the report featured a jarring main takeaway: Pessimism about global economic growth is at a record.More specifically, 53% of CEOs surveyed are predicting a decline in the rate of economic growth in 2020, up from 29% in 2019 and many multiples higher than the mere 5% registered in 2018. The sharp upward trend can be seen in the chart below.<a class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e262e9bb6d52d087b612b23-960/screen shot 2020-01-20 at 114841 pm.png"></a><a href="https://www.pwc.com/gx/en/ceo-agenda/ceosurvey/2020.html">PwC</a>Global growth pessimism is at a record high, according to more than 1,500 CEOs surveyed by PwC.The survey's findings were delivered to a surprised audience by Bob Moritz, PwC's global chairman. After all, with global markets fresh off a 2019 that saw nearly every major asset post <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/sp-500-2019-annual-return-for-year-best-since-2013-2019-12-1028790061?" target="_blank" rel="noopener">impressive gains</a>, it was difficult for many to wrap their head around such dismal expectations for economic growth.Moritz attempted to explain what drove the record-setting pessimism by touching upon a handful of the biggest threats identified by CEOs worldwide.They're listed below, accompanied by the percentage of CEOs who mentioned them. All quotes are attributable to Moritz and were delivered at PwC's press briefing at Davos.<h3>1) Over-regulation (36%)</h3>"When you look at the type of risks that CEOs identify, regulation continues to be a huge challenge consistently around the world. It may vary country by country, but the overall regulation issue is still a big phenomenon."There is a belief that government will act more so, which will have an impact on the technology space - the digital space. It's not only tech, but rather thinking through data and all the things within a digital agenda and economy."The CEOs are focused on three major themes. First, that we will end up seeing more regulation around the type of contact that's allowed or leveraged across the internet. Second, CEOs are very worried about government intervention in terms of breaking up some of the larger tech houses right now."And third is whether or not data is being used with some form of compensation to individuals. Those three things are what CEO believe might be coming when we think of more regulation."This concept of over-regulation is an interesting phenomenon to watch not just in the tech space, but even beyond that in terms of taxation, climate, and the role governments will play."<h3>2) Trade conflicts (35%)</h3>"The big issue today that's at top of mind for a lot of organizations and individual people is the trade conflict. It's risen significantly year-over-year."These CEOs are responding to a reduction in their ability to actually transact. To me, the CEOs that have a certain confidence level - those that will be sustained and survive in this economy - are the ones that can react quickest. If you look at this past year, the Chinese were the fastest to change supply chain."Now let's go to the other side of that equation. Even though there's a huge trade conflict issue out there, the CEOs in the US still have China as the No.1 area they'd want to invest outside of their home country. They're looking at the underlying demographics and the megatrends."Then, when we ask the same question of the CEOs in China - "are you going to invest in rich countries outside of your own?"- the US doesn't even make the top five anymore. The Chinese have quickly pivoted towards Southeast Asia and Australia. It comes back to the different mindsets CEOs have country by country."<h3>3) Cyber threats (33%)</h3>"This continues to be a big challenge globally, although it depends on the country. For example, in the UK, it's the No.1 risk that everybody is worried about."<h3>Bonus: Climate change</h3>While Moritz noted that climate change - one of the main focal points of Davos this year - failed to make the top 10 of overall CEO worries, he said that could soon change."For all of the discussion and all the dialogue that's started already here at Davos, the reality is that climate is not at the top of the CEOs' agenda for people to react to."CEOs and management teams and boards that will be in the successful category are those that, rather than just seeing climate as a downside risk, will see it as an upside opportunity. They'll need to ask how they can differentiate versus their competition to demonstrate they're doing something about it."And there's benefit to that, in terms of the type of stakeholder expectations people have. They'll see you as doing something about it. They'll be more likely to buy your product, more likely to join your organization."What we see today as a big opportunity, over the next couple of years, is for organizations to put climate into everything they're doing, leverage technology and artificial intelligence to find the innovations they can bring that both have a bottom-line impact, and have an impact on society."It's this concept of purpose and profit being together - not one or the other - is extremely important. The CEOs that understand that are doing something about it, and they have a much higher likelihood of success, even in this uncertain world."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The Bilderberg Meetings draw an elite gathering every year to discuss global issues.</li><li>The closed meetings began after WWII to promote dialogue between Europe and North America.</li></ul>It's not easy to remain secret in an age of near-constant surveillance and endless information sources.But some powerful groups, somehow, have managed it — at least to some degree.Such is the case with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-secret-bilderberg-meeting-of-the-worlds-top-bankers-2011-6#the-bilderberg-discussions-are-off-the-record-so-people-have-come-up-with-all-sorts-of-wild-theories-about-what-goes-on-inside-2">the Bilderberg Meetings</a>, a tight-lipped, off-the-record gathering that summons its participants once a year to discuss global issues and encourage "dialogue between Europe and North America," according to the group's <a target="_blank" href="https://bilderbergmeetings.org/background/brief-history">website</a>.The group is hosting its 70th annual meeting this weekend in Madrid, where attendees will discuss a range of contemporary issues. Here's what we know.<h2 id="dba9b4ac-d48f-4ddf-8591-e1ed41efd017">Founding</h2>The annual events are hosted by a group called Foundation Bilderberg Meetings, led by a steering committee of elite members from government, business, tech, and the press.The first meeting in May 1954 was held at a hotel in The Netherlands, from which the meeting gets its name."Representatives from economic, social, political and cultural fields were invited to informal discussions to help create a better understanding of the complex forces and major trends affecting Western nations in the difficult postwar period," according to the Bilderberg <a target="_blank" href="https://bilderbergmeetings.org/background/brief-history">website</a>.Known group members have included former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and David Rockefeller, who was once chairman of the Chase corporation.<h2 id="ca199ffd-1b7e-497f-a33e-b01b2f28846c">Recent Meetings</h2>Past meetings have been hosted in Portugal, the United States, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-secret-bilderberg-meeting-of-the-worlds-top-bankers-2011-6">Switzerland</a>, and Italy."Throughout the years, the annual Meetings have become a forum for discussion on a wide range of topics — from trade to jobs to technology, from monetary policy to investment, and from ecological challenges to the task of promoting international security," the group's website says.Despite its secrecy, the group does put out a brief agenda. In 2018, it apparently <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bilderberg-group-2018-meeting-populism-in-europe-tops-agenda-2018-6">discussed populism</a>, inequality, and artificial intelligence, among other top issues.Current members of the Steering Committee include business magnates like conservative megadonor <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-peter-thiel-svb-facebook-trump-biography-2023-3">Peter Thiel</a>, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.<h2 id="5ee23359-d795-49aa-b19f-f3c835191e31">2024 Bilderberg Meeting</h2>Agendas are publicly released "shortly in advance" of meetings, a spokesperson for Bilderberg Meetings said in a statement to Business Insider.Members attending this weekend's meeting in Madrid will discuss artificial intelligence, geopolitical conflicts, the economy, the climate, and the "changing faces of biology," according to a <a target="_blank" href="https://bilderbergmeetings.org/press/press-release/press-release">press release</a>."Thanks to the private nature of the Meeting, the participants take part as individuals rather than in any official capacity and hence are not bound by the conventions of their office or by pre-agreed positions. As such, they can take time to listen, reflect and gather insights. There is no detailed agenda, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued," according to the press release.Disclosure: Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Business Insider's parent company, Axel Springer, is listed as a member of the Steering Committee for Foundation Bilderberg Meetings.

"Like literally weeks."</li></ul>Wall Street heavyweights Bill Ackman and Larry Fink see inflation remaining higher and expect US Treasury yields to soon hit 5%.Ackman, who is the CEO of Pershing Square Capital, said at CNBC's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IZvW-Zdgzk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Delivering Alpha 2023 conference</a> on Thursday that inflation will be persistently higher, while noting that US yields in the 4% range are still low on a historical basis."I would not be shocked to see 30-year rates well through the 5[%] barrier, and you could see the 10-year approach 5," he said. "And that could happen in the very short-term. Like literally weeks."On Friday, the 10-year yield pulled back to 4.565% after surging to its <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-news-today-us-bond-yields-16-year-highs-2023-9">highest level since 2007</a> earlier in the week. Meanwhile, the 30-year yield eased to 4.697%.Fink, who is the CEO of BlackRock, also pointed out that structural inflation will continue to be a future impediment, resulting from a tense geopolitical landscape and the fragmentation of trade norms."We're gonna have 10-year rates at least at 5% or higher, because of this embedded inflation," he said at the Berlin Global Dialogue Forum on Friday. "This structural inflation is unlike anything, and I think business leaders and politicians are not providing the foundation to help explain this. We have not seen inflation like this in over 30 years." Their warnings come after JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon also sounded the alarm on sticky inflation pressures this week, citing high federal spending and the growing energy transition.To combat this, the Federal Reserve would be forced to keep tightening its monetary policy, with a fed funds rate of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/jamie-dimon-warns-7-interest-rates-possible-are-you-prepared-2023-9">7% a real possibility</a>, he added. And that could keep US Treasury yields higher as they move on expectations of Fed rate policy.Other commentators have also <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/bonds/us-debt-ray-dalio-bill-gross-jeffrey-gundlach-bond-market-2023-9?utm_source=flipboard&amp;utm_content=vancole%2Fmagazine%2FFinancial+News">suggested higher yields</a>, especially as a supply and demand imbalance exists in the Treasury market.And in a <a href="https://williamhgross.com/call-me-ken/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">note</a> last week, "bond king" Bill Gross outlined that the 10-year Treasury is priced for a 2% inflationary world, meaning that even if the Fed brings inflation back to pre-pandemic lows, the yield is likely to remain above 4%.

"Today, the average user spends more than 32 minutes of their day on X. We continue to see sign-ups average around 1.5 million per day," she wrote in a blog post. Yaccarino said that overall users spend 7.8 billion active minutes every day on X, driven by growth in "our video and communities products". She said that X is now a place where everyone can freely express themselves, so long as they do so within the bounds of the law. "We believe open and respectful discourse is the single best way for humanity to thrive. Safety on X remains a critical priority. Our work is not done, but we are making real progress," said Yaccarino. However, one year on, controversies associated with the platform, amid the non-stop spread of disinformation, is far from over. From a surge in anti-semitic tweets that more than doubled over the months since Musk took charge to the European Commission formally opening a probe into X over spreading of illegal content and disinformation, the Twitter bird is yet to be freed. Yaccarino said that their team has an ongoing dialogue with external groups to keep up to date with potential risks and support the safety of the platform - partners like the Technology Coalition, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee and Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism. "Over half a billion of the world's most informed and influential people come to X every month. That's inclusive of our efforts to aggressively remove spam and inauthentic accounts - a step we believe is critical to improve the X user experience and grow the platform," the <keyword id="18939212" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="x-ceo" source="Orion">X CEO</keyword> informed. She further stated that Community Notes now has over 100K contributors in 44 countries and growing. "This product is not perfect, but it is improving rapidly. Notes are being seen tens of millions of times per day, and they are getting much faster - a necessity in a world where breaking information is inherently uncertain and X has outperformed traditional media," Yaccarino noted. The average brand safety score on X is now more than 99%, "and we are now seeing brand suitability scores at over 97% when these controls are applied," she further said. According to her, over 1,700 advertisers returned to X last quarter, from small businesses to major brands - including 90 of the top 100 ad spenders from a year ago. "We shipped over 200 products and features post-acquisition with a significantly smaller team. How did we achieve this? We rebuilt and simplified large parts of the systems and infrastructure powering our main product surfaces from the ground up, which allowed us to maintain platform stability and innovate faster," she said. Through a Verified Organizations subscription, businesses can now post a job listing directly on the platform. In a bid to retain users on its platform, X Corp has paid over $20 million (more than Rs 166 crore) to creators so far. The company rolled out encrypted messaging to X Premium subscribers, increased the limit on group DMs to 200 and added more message reply functionality. "We launched audio and video calling, enabling Premium subscribers to call any X handle in the world without having to give them their phone number," said Yaccarino.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Kwasi Mitchell, Deloitte's chief purpose and DEI officer, said leaders need to be better teachers.</li><li>Going into 2024, Mitchell is worried about college students' confidence in the workplace.</li></ul>I first spoke to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/deloitte-chief-purpose-officer-dei-future-of-work-2023-4">Kwasi Mitchell, Deloitte's first chief purpose officer</a>, in March about change in corporate America.He explained how embedding purpose touches on people, society, and clients. It's time to "be more deliberate than we ever have been because expectations have changed," he told me at the time. We reconnected in November and a lot has changed for him. For one, his role evolved from broadly touching on sustainability, equity, and social impact to overseeing all DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — responsibilities at the consulting firm.Now, purpose and diversity and inclusion are "more central to all of the decisions that we're making as an organization critical to our broader strategy, and really a lens with respect to how we're going to operate," Mitchell, whose title is now Deloitte's chief purpose &amp; DEI officer, told me recently."It has just been easier for my team to kind of work across different corporate silos move more quickly, and simultaneously, do things that are interesting that sit at that intersection of equity from the standpoint of DEI, social impact, and also sustainability," he added.He knows there's been some pushback against the concept — and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/companies-still-doing-esg-work-despite-politics-criticism-2023-11">necessity — of ESG</a>. He's not concerned though. The following conversation has been edited for length and clarity.What are you most excited about for 2024?I'm most excited about work that we are really continuing to focus on from an equity standpoint, and specifically highlighting through items that are taking place in two of our distinct institutes. One, we have what we call our <a target="_blank" href="https://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/pages/about-deloitte/articles/press-releases/deloitte-launches-dei-institute.html">DEI Institute</a>. So, really working and driving cutting-edge research on diversity, equity, and inclusion: How do we fundamentally have employers create spaces of psychological safety for their employees to really embrace every aspect of their identity at work?I see this as being a piece that really starts to pivot the dialogue associated with distinct aspects of DEI — making them more tactical, helping people to understand them from a humanistic standpoint, rather than necessarily continuing this dialogue associated with the broader business case. I do feel like the business case has been proven several times over for years and years now, but really taking these items and helping people to understand how they individually impact your people.So impact beyond our organization is really what I'm excited about for 2024.What are you most worried about for 2024?I do spend time on college campuses, and I feel like there has been a coalescence of a few things that I think have both undergraduate and also advanced graduates a little bit nervous.I think it's this conflation between several things: the impact that Gen AI is going to have on their positions for the next several years. It has been a cooling economy where they're seeing that they have fewer opportunities perhaps than what they envisioned — and what some of their counterparts had over the last several years. And a series of geopolitical events are having a definitive impact on their mental health and their perspective on the world.Are we appropriately supporting, driving, and helping people to integrate into their careers without all of those anxieties playing out and driving adverse impact not only on their mental health, but also potentially eroding their their trust and alignment with their organizations and their organization's missions?How do we make sure that all of these external events that are evolving don't turn into something that has the workforce that we were trying to recruit be a little bit more challenging from the standpoint of the trust that they have an employer? We want them to see Deloitte and other great organizations as being places where they can not only start their career, but that will help them grow in their career despite the multitude of reshaping that's taking place in the business environment today.What's the one thing you got right in 2023?One thing I think we got right in 2023 was the launch of an urban sustainability challenge in San Francisco called <a target="_blank" href="https://uplink.weforum.org/uplink/s/uplink-issue/a002o0000174PQwAAM/yes-san-francisco-urban-sustainability-challenge">Yes San Francisco</a>. The effort was a collaboration between ourselves, the World Economic Forum, Salesforce, and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. We assembled a group of organizations within the Bay Area that would support a series of innovators who are looking to really revitalize downtown San Francisco through distinct sustainability-focused ideas and business models.I distinctly remember sitting across the table, starting to work with our collaborators on what actually could this be. Now, seeing this coalition grow, and knowing that we've created this model that can be replicable to other cities, we can lean in on a distinct challenge in that particular community, know how to organize an ecosystem of organizations around it, and really challenge systemic issues on a local basis.I'm incredibly excited about exploring how we do this in other cities that are near and dear and incredibly important to our business. Having a coalescing force with a few organizations to drive momentum could be really really interesting and impactful in the future.What's one thing you got wrong in 2023?I think it's the evolution of a lot of the work that many organizations are doing on how to be attentive, listen, and grow with the sentiments of their workforce. I do feel that we've had this evolution with social and political issues that are stepping into the workforce from a geopolitical standpoint. There needs to be a broader focus on educating our people, specifically on some of these items, rather than assuming that they know and have a fair and balanced perspective on all aspects of things that are taking place.Whether that be a debate associated with specific laws that are surfacing within distinct parts of the country, focusing on things such as transgender rights and also legislation. Whether that extends to geopolitical conflicts and crises that are evolving be that in Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, or what have you. Many of our executives and tenured leaders have global perspectives and have worked in a lot of different areas. How do we educate our people more broadly so that they can understand not only the stance that we may take on an issue or not take on an issue, but simultaneously, how to speak about it and support our people in instances of that nature?So I feel what what really needs to be the focus for many of us in roles such as mine, is educating our people in ways that we historically have not had to before. Because there are nuances and also complexities with some of these challenges that we assume that people understand. In many instances, they don't have the frame of reference to. And it's our desire, and also responsibility, to educate them on them further.
