Its share price is now up nearly 33% year to date.On Tuesday, President-elect <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-elon-musk-vivek-ramaswamy-department-government-efficiency-doge-2024-11">Trump announced</a> that Musk would take on an advisory role and co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, alongside the entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.Inside Tesla, the response to Trump's victory, and Musk's role in it, has been mixed. Business Insider spoke with nine current employees in states across the country, including California and Texas. Though they represent a sliver of the automaker's global workforce of more than 100,000 employees, the conversations offer a glimpse into the internal response to the election.Some of the workers said they wish Musk would pay more attention to Tesla. Others said the CEO's involvement with Trump could benefit the company.Most of them were celebrating the company's surging stock price, as Tesla stock makes up a significant share of most workers' <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-salary-database-elon-musk-pay-strategy-2024-11">compensation</a>.<h2 id="f2ff1729-e00e-492e-a77e-d3344b215374">Hope, celebration, and conflict</h2>One engineer said that while they hadn't voted for Trump, they felt Musk could "supercharge" the US government. Another employee who did vote for Trump said they were "excited for what this could mean for Tesla and for our country."Another employee said Trump's win and the sudden surge in Tesla's stock price had many at the company feeling more hopeful."Since being hired, the stock has primarily trended sideways, and it was difficult for a lot of employees to see value in the company as many of us are given stock to compensate for lower hourly pay," one employee said. "Now that the stock is moving in a positive direction, there is a sense of renewed hope for the company with employees generally."For others who spoke to Business Insider, the rising share price led to conflicted emotions."On one hand, you want to celebrate the fact that the stock is up an insane amount, but on the other, it's difficult to be truly happy because of Trump and what it means for Tesla's mission," one engineer said. The employee said that Trump's climate-crisis denial could be a roadblock to Tesla's mission of transitioning to sustainable energy.Trump has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-says-he-would-consider-ending-7500-electric-vehicle-credit-2024-08-19/">said</a> he plans to increase US oil production and may roll back vehicle-emissions standards and incentives designed to promote the production and adoption of electric cars. At an October rally in Detroit, Trump <a target="_blank" href="https://www.factcheck.org/2024/10/the-issues-trumps-proposal-to-lower-prices-by-increasing-energy-production/">said</a> he planned to "frack, frack, frack, and drill, baby, drill." Musk has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/23/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-says-he-favors-no-tariffs-on-chinese-evs.html#:~:text=Tesla%20has%20been%20struggling%20this,Q&amp;A%20session%20was%20being%20livestreamed.">said</a> in the past that he doesn't agree with tax incentives for electric cars.Tesla and Musk did not respond to a request for comment.<h2 id="2854b357-98e7-4ef9-ae66-46c451c3e979">Musk's growing list of commitments</h2>Some Tesla factory workers in Texas and California were given time off to vote on Election Day in compliance with state laws, multiple factory workers in both states said. Separately, Tesla managers were sent a guide on how to address political discussions in the workplace, one worker said.Postelection, three employees said the election hasn't been discussed much at work. "No one is saying anything," said one. "I think everyone is just waiting to see how this all plays out now.""There's this feeling that no one fully knows where anyone else stands," one manager told BI.Some Tesla-connected figures have been more open. Tesla's director of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, posted about Trump's victory on X.Kimbal Musk, Elon Musk's brother and a Tesla board member, also appeared to celebrate the win.The DOGE advisory role will be another time commitment for Musk, who's already involved with five companies. Musk's private jet has flown to and from Palm Beach, Florida, near Trump's estate in Mar-a-Lago, five times since November 5, according to data from the <a target="_blank" href="https://jetspy.com/">jet-tracking company JetSpy</a>. On Wednesday, Musk's jet flew from Palm Beach to an airport near Washington, DC, where he attended Trump's first postelection meeting with House Republicans.Six workers said they felt Musk had taken his focus off Tesla."It feels like a lot of political theater," one worker said. The consolidated net profit of the company is also highest at Rs 57,101 crore in FY24. The <keyword id="21739636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crude-oil-production" source="keywords">crude oil production</keyword> of the company has surged by 2.4 per cent quarterly to 5.359 MMT in Q4 FY24. However, the standalone gross revenue of the company declined 11 per cent YoY to Rs 1,38,402 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,55,517 crore in FY23. The standalone profit has surged yearly by 1.1 per cent to Rs 40,526 crore in FY24. The company also announced a total <keyword id="20047030" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dividend" source="keywords">dividend</keyword> of Rs 12.25 per share with a total payout of Rs 15,411 crore. This includes an interim dividend of Rs 9.75 per share which is already paid during the year and a final dividend of Rs 2.50 per share recommended by the Board. The Crude Oil production of the company in Q4 FY'24 saw an increase of 2.4 per cent over Q4 FY'23 whereas <keyword id="20646431" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gas-production" source="keywords">gas production</keyword> decreased by 3 per cent. The company informed that it drilled 541 wells, the highest recorded in the past 34 years, comprising 103 exploratory and 438 development wells. The shares of ONGC gained more than 46 per cent in the last six months on the national stock exchange and were trading at Rs 280 at the time of filing this report. Here's the story of his life and his last big deal.<h2 id="36c5efde-9e9d-4363-a20b-58af577cef02">Drilling down</h2>Stephens was born in 1938, raised on a fruit-and-peanut farm in the Texas town of DeLeon, and studied petroleum engineering at the University of Texas at Austin's engineering school, according to a profile on its website.His first job after graduating was at Humble Oil, an ExxonMobil predecessor. He promptly took two years out to join the US Army Corps of Engineers as a lieutenant and platoon leader in charge of installing pipelines before rejoining Humble for five years.His next gig was as an appraisal engineer for a bank in Midland, Texas. Next, he struck out on his own as an independent consulting engineer.Stephens was in his forties by the time he drilled his first well in 1979. He plowed his life savings into the prospect, which "wasn't very smart," he told The Wall Street Journal in February.Over the next 45 years the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rise-fall-of-energy-titan-aubrey-mcclendon-2016-3">wildcatter</a> established Big Dog Drilling Company, which had a single rig at first, and then Endeavor Energy Resources. He built his business into one of the biggest oil exploration and production companies in the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-oil-production-boom-crude-supply-wti-price-goldman-sachs-2024-7">Permian Basin</a> of West Texas and New Mexico.Endeavor now owns 410,000 net acres across multiple basins, boasts thousands of wells, and produces more than 420,000 gross operated barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to its website.<h2 id="aa67b277-e6a4-4fa5-b4a7-93fd25904d00">Striking oil</h2>Stephens competed with the oil majors as an underdog, purchasing wells they deemed too costly to bring online. He drove down costs by drilling one well at a time, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/learn-from-elon-musk-vertical-integration-leadership-spacex-tesla">buying or setting up</a> his own fracking, trucking, construction, and oil services companies.When rivals faltered during industry downturns, Stephens bought cheap mineral rights and acquired businesses for his stable. He stayed afloat when crude prices plunged in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2008/9/oil-to-91-as-global-economy-collapses">2008</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/oil-drops-to-five-year-low-2014-12">2014</a> by shutting down his rigs, flogging assets, and securing new lenders, per the Journal. One of his few moments in the spotlight was on a truTV documentary called "Black Gold," which followed workers on one of his rigs as they scrambled to complete four wells in 50 days.<h2 id="cb02d0f0-d63c-4642-9b75-a912624e83d2">Missing out</h2>Diamondback is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/endeavor-energy-autry-stephens-net-worth-career">set to buy</a> Endeavor for $8 billion in cash and 117 million shares.The merger promised to quadruple Stephens' net worth to more than $23 billion on paper, vaulting him to 85th place on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and making him America's wealthiest oilman.Stephens has now been removed from the rich list following his death on August 16 at the age of 86.
