The number of foreign tourist arrivals in <keyword id="6355882" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="israel">Israel</keyword> jumped about 880 percent, or 9.8 times year-on-year in May, according to data released by the <keyword id="1629046" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Bureau-of-Statistics">Central Bureau of Statistics</keyword>. The data published on Monday revealed that the number of <keyword id="6356297" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tourists">tourists</keyword> who visited Israel last month thus increased to 21,500, from only 2,200 in May 2020, reports Xinhua news agency. In March, Israel reopened its skies following a ban on incoming and outgoing flights imposed on January 26. On May 23, Israel began allowing the entry of vaccinated tourist groups, as part of further moves to ease Covid-19 restrictions. The 11-day fighting that broke out between the Israeli army and Gaza's ruler <keyword id="39745" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hamas">Hamas</keyword> on May 10 prevented an even greater increase in the number of tourists entering Israel. In the first five months of 2021, there was an 18.4 per cent decrease in the number of tourists, totalling 68,400, compared to 83,800 in the previous five months (August-December 2020). This is also a decrease of almost 90.7 per cent compared to 735,800 in January-May 2020, as the first coronavirus case was detected in Israel on February 27, 2020. Foreign tourist arrivals in Israel jump almost 10 times after allowing entry of vaccinated tourists

Growth of foreign tourist arrivals to India slowed down to 2.7 per cent in January-October period of 2019 in tune with the global trend, according to the Economic Survey 2019-20.
 The Indian tourism sector, which is a major engine of growth, had witnessed a strong performance from 2015 to 2017, with high growth in foreign tourist arrivals, the survey tabled in Parliament on Friday said.
 "However, foreign tourist arrivals growth (year-on year) has decelerated since then to 5.2 per cent in 2018 and 2.7 per cent in January-October 2019," it said.
 This trend, however, is not unique to India, as the growth in international tourist arrivals globally also slowed from 7.1 per cent in 2017 to 5.4 per cent in 2018, it added.
 As a result, the survey said growth in foreign exchange earnings from tourism sector has slowed in 2018 and 2019 after registering strong growth until 2017.
 "Foreign exchange earnings totalled USD 24 billion in January-October 2019, with a growth of 2 per cent," it said.
 In 2018, India ranked 22nd in the world in terms of international tourist arrivals, improving from the 26th position in 2017.
 "India now accounts for 1.24 per cent of world's international tourist arrivals and 5 per cent of Asia &amp; Pacific's international tourist arrivals," it said.
 In terms of foreign exchange earnings from tourism, India ranks 13th in the world and 7th in Asia &amp; Pacific.
 The survey said visitors from the top 10 countries -- Bangladesh, USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, China, Germany and Russia -- accounted for 65 per cent of the total foreign tourist arrivals in India.
 Among foreign tourists, 62.4 per cent visited India for leisure, holiday and recreation, 16.3 per cent for business purposes, and 13.5 per cent was Indian diaspora, it added.
 With the e-Visa scheme available for 169 countries, the survey said foreign tourist arrivals to India on e-visas increased from 4.45 lakh in 2015 to 23.69 lakh in 2018, and stood at 21.75 lakh in January-October 2019, recording nearly 21 per cent year-on-year growth from the previous year. Foreign tourists in India fell sharply even before the corona virus outbreak

After <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">Prime Minister Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">Modi</a>-led government extended <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=e-tourist+visa">e-tourist visa</a> facility to nationals of 76 countries, experts are of the opinion that this move will give a boost to tourism in the country. 
 
Earlier, India offered <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=visa+on+arrival">visa on arrival</a> to nationals of 12 countries. 
 
So, hoteliers can expect some brisk business in the second half of this financial year. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tourism+industry">tourism industry</a> is expecting 15% growth in foreign tourist arrivals in the current fiscal over the previous year. In the past three years, the industry witnessed annual growth of about 10% in the past three years. 
 
In 2014-15, foreign tourist arrivals grew 8.2% over the previous year to 77 lakh. 
 
"Given all the push and impetus given to tourism by the central government and the fact that overall we are seeing more interest from foreign tourists -both corporate and leisure -the growth might be trumping what you have seen in the past and you could see a 12-15% year-on-year growth in foreign tourist arrivals this year," Achin Khanna, managing director for consulting and valuation practice at HVS South Asia, told Economic Times. 
 Under the <keyword id="2808505" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="e-tourist-visa">e-tourist visa</keyword> scheme, foreign nationals can apply for a visa by uploading their <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=passport">passport</a> and photograph and paying the visa fee on line. 
 
Then the concerned authorities will send an electronic travel authorisation, or e-visa, via email within 72 hours. 
 
As per the he tourism ministry, the number of tourists under the e-tourist visa scheme grew to 1, 26, 214 in the six months to June. 
 
Following economic slowdown, India's hospitality industry has been in the doldrums over the past few years. 
 
Several <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=hotels">hotels</a> slipped into the red amid falling check-ins and declining room rates. 
 
"The hotel industry is likely to see a highly reduced new supply of 4% in 2015-16 which would result in occupancies showing an increase of 5-6% over last year along with a corresponding gentle increase in average daily rates leading to a top line growth for the hotel industry of 6-7%," Mandeep Lamba, MD, India, hotels and hospitality group, JLL, told ET.

India awaits foreign tourists from 76 countries with open arms, thanks to e-tourist visa

<keyword id="6372909" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="turkey" source="Orion">Turkey</keyword>'s Mediterranean coast is expected to see a large number of tourists flowing in this summer despite the devastating earthquakes in February, industry professionals have said. As temperatures rise, "<keyword id="14197732" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Turkish-Riviera" source="Orion">Turkish Riviera</keyword>", the southern part of the country famed for its Turquoise coast and ancient heritage sites, is entering the start of its peak <keyword id="20048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tourism" source="Orion">tourism</keyword> season, Xinhua news agency reported. Sector representatives reported a decline in reservations following the deadly February 6 earthquakes in the southeastern parts of Turkey, but things soon returned to normal, they said. "Last year's favorable data on foreign arrivals and revenues have given us hope this year at the start of the summer season," Burhan Sili, chair of the Alanya Touristic Hoteliers Association, told the news agency in a recent interview. Turkey's tourism income in 2022 saw an all-time high, jumping to $46.3 billion with 51 million foreign visitors, the country's statistical authority announced in January. Sili said that demand dropped in the aftermath of the devastating tremors but then picked up in a couple of weeks, making a full recovery. Alanya, a main tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast, saw a 55-percent increase in foreign tourist arrivals in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the local governorate in early April. Sili said the tourists from Russia and the European countries, especially Germany and Britain, will make up a large share of the arrivals. "Overall, we estimate that we will close the 2023 season with a better performance than 2022 in terms of the number of arrivals and revenues," Sili added. Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said in January that foreign arrivals are expected to reach 60 million in 2023, before hitting $90 million in 2028, while the income will reach $56 billion this year and $100 billion in five years. The sharp depreciation of the Turkish currency against hard currencies since the start of 2022 has also made Türkiye an affordable destination for European nationals that are witnessing a rising cost of living. Kaan Sahinalp, the Turkey representative of German travel giant TUI, was also upbeat about the 2023 outlook, indicating that the country is in for a better year than 2022. Sahinalp pointed out that the weak lira generally favours foreign travelers on a budget and that Turkey is likely to be once again one of the top choices for many foreigners. The tourism sector plays an important part in the country's economy, which saw a widening current account deficit in recent years. The industry also provides the livelihood of over two million people in the country.

Turkey expects thriving tourism season despite earthquake

 Earlier, the TVoA (Travel <keyword id="90790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="visa-on-arrival">Visa on Arrival</keyword>) facility was available to citizens of 12 countries. Only 8,008 tourists used 'Visa on Arrival' same time last year according to a press release by the <keyword id="62889" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ministry-of-tourism">Ministry of Tourism</keyword>. 
 Christmas just arrived earlier for travel agencies and websites in India. “We expect the new e-tourist visa facility will result in a clear up gradation of our inbound traffic by a minimum of 12- 15%, and this is only the start! There is huge potential of creating a huge competitive space. It is a great opportunity”, confirmed Mr. Prashant Narayan, COO of <keyword id="87184" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Thomas-Cook">Thomas Cook</keyword> India. 
 Under the current scheme, a foreign tourist can apply for an <keyword id="1669219" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="e-visa">e-visa</keyword> by uploading his details and paying the required fee online. The authorities can then process the application and send an e-visa via email within 72 hours. 
 The e-facility visa-on-arrival allows foreign nationals from 76 countries to come into India for <keyword id="20048" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="tourism">tourism</keyword> or short term medical treatments for a short stay of 30 days.

New Delhi, Jan 17 () Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) to India increased despite travel advisories issued by several countries and attempts by some groups to create "a bad perception" of the situation in the country, said Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel on Friday.
In 2019, till December, there has been a 43-percent increase in tourists availing e-visa, Forex has grown by almost 19 percent and the increase in FTAs is around 8 per cent as compared to the same period in 2018
"I think the data makes clear to those trying to create a bad perception of the country in a planned manner that they have failed in comparison to the attempts made by the prime minister to showcase this country. The data shows India is stable, peaceful and definitely worth seeing," said Patel when asked about the effects the protests against CAA, NRC, NPR have on the tourism industry.
According to data from the ministry, FTAs grew by 4.3 per cent in September 2019, a month after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammy and Kashmir, as compared to the same period in 2018. Similarly, Forex grew by 11 percent during the same period.
In December, when protests against CAA and NRC began, FTAs grew by 3 percent and Forex by 16 percent, the data said. ASG ASG ABH

Foreign tourist arrivals up despite travel advisories, attempts to create bad image: Tourism Min

<keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>’s mystical history and natural beauty continues to charm foreigners. The country witnessed a substantial rise in the foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) in August 2014. According to a report by the <keyword id="20048" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tourism">tourism</keyword> ministry, India recorded 5.69 lakh FTA last month as against 4.86 lakh in August 2013 and 4.46 lakh in August 2012. 
 
“There has been a growth of 16.9% in August 2014 over August 2013 as compared to a growth of 9.1% registered in August 2013 over August 2012,” said the report. 
 
The ministry also noted that nearly 46.84 lakh foreign tourists had arrived between January and August this year, registering a growth of 7.4% over the same period in 2013 (43.60 lakh FTA). 
 Interestingly, while the US and UK continued to be one of the top source countries for India, some of the new countries that showed interest in India includes Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE and Oman. “…The top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh (14.03%), followed by <keyword id="6355055" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="USA">USA</keyword> (12.74%), UK (9.22%), Sri Lanka (6.79%), Japan (3.56%), France (3.18%), Malaysia (3.09%), Germany (2.79%), UAE (2.42%), Oman (2.28%), Australia (2.28%), Canada (2.22%), China (2.14%), Pakistan (2.11%) and Nepal (2.10%),” states the report. 
 
In terms of Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism, India earned Rs 10, 254 crore ($1.684 billion) in August itself as compared to Rs 8,351 crore ($1.328 billion) in August 2013 and Rs 7,260 crore ($1.306 billion) in August 2012. 
 
India recorded a growth of 22.8% in FEEs in rupee terms in August 2014 over August 2013, which had registered 15% growth over August 2012. While the growth rate in FEEs in American dollar terms in August 2014 was 26.8% as compared to a meagre growth rate of 1.7% in August 2013 over August 2012. 
 
“The FEE from tourism in rupee terms during January-August 2014 was Rs 77,350 crore with a growth of 12.8%, as compared to the FEE of Rs 68,558 crore with a growth of 15.4% during January-August 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012. While the FEE from tourism in terms of dollars during January-August 2014 were $12.739 billion with a growth of 4.6%, as compared to $12.178 billion with a growth of 8.0% during January-August 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012”, the ministry noted in its report. 
 
Surprisingly, the growth has been recorded despite spurt in crime against foreign tourists. Earlier, industry players feared that the rising crime rate would keep foreign tourists away from the country, but tourism ministry ran a slew of campaigns centred on the foreign tourists’ safety, which seems to have done the magic.

In a bid to strengthen the ties between India and the US, the Indian government plans to issue visa-on-arrival for tourists from the US soon. Indian Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> had made several announcements regarding the consular and visa issues at Madison Square Garden in New York City in the US. Now it’s time when we can expect some action to materialize the plans that were shared. 
		“Systems are in place to introduce visa on arrival for US tourists in October itself,” said the Prime Minister Office in a statement. 
	
		 Industry experts feel that the move will give a tremendous boost tourism industry in the country. “Extension of the Visa-on-Arrival facility to is an excellent step taken forward by India, and will certainly give a big fillip to inbound tourism, which is languishing far below its potential considering the diversity of experiences that India offers,” said <keyword id="332366" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharat-Dhall">Sharat Dhall</keyword>, president of <keyword id="143718" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yatra-com">Yatra.com</keyword>, an online travel portal, sometime back. 
		He had added that visa on arrival will allow travellers from the US to do impulse travelling to India and open up the country to tourists who decide at the last minute. “In addition, the proposal to allow travellers to apply for visas online and receive the electronic visa within 5 days, eases up the entire process of travelling to India. Arising out of this welcome step, we expect this to significantly boost demand for hotels, flights and land transport within India and act as a catalyst to economic growth as well,” noted Dhall. 
	
		 
		Interestingly, tourists from the US have accounted for a major portion of the inbound tourism in the country. According to the statistics by the tourism ministry, the foreign tourist arrival (FTA) from USA was over 10 lakh in 2013 registering a growth of 15.58% over 2012. 
	
		 Apart from issuing visa on arrival, the government will also issue lifelong <keyword id="49485" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PIO">PIO</keyword> (Person of Indian Origin) cards to Indian NRIs living in the US. 
		“All PIO cards are now valid for the lifetime of the cardholder, instead of 15 years. This effectively fulfils the Prime Minister's announcement that PIO cardholders would enjoy a lifelong visa to India,” stated the PM’s office. The PIO cardholders wouldn’t be required to visit a police station even when their India visit exceeds 180 days.
