According to Flipkart, its app got close to 10 million new app downloads in less than a month in the run-up to the sale. This year, Flipkart’s opening day sales were more than two times that it was last year. “We started this festive season by setting audacious targets for ourselves and our teams. By all indications this is going to be the biggest festive season that India has witnessed. There is no doubt that e-commerce has not only lifted consumer sentiment but has also driven the industry to set new benchmarks,” said <keyword id="6379357" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kalyan-krishnamurthy">Kalyan Krishnamurthy</keyword>, CEO, Flipkart in a statement. Big Billion Day sale which began as a one-day event is now running in its 6th edition as a six-day event. “Affordability and value driven themes clearly are the pulsating chords for India and Bharat. We are in the centre of it all and are able to serve the ecosystem for their unique needs,” said Krishnamurthy.

Flipkart’s ‘House of Flagships’ is its latest bid to get the ‘edge’ over Amazon in India

While we thought <keyword id="319719" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Myntra">Myntra</keyword> would be the only company to test out waters in the mobile-app only field, the latest news reports suggest that the <keyword id="2816087" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="eCommerce-player">eCommerce player</keyword>, <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is also planning to follow the suite. A senior executive of the eCommerce player told the news to Economic Times. 
 The company seems to be planning this move considering the popularity of its mobile <keyword id="235499" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="APP">app</keyword>, which is bringing maximum traffic to them. Michael Adnani, vice-president, retail and head of brand alliances, Flipkart told the financial daily, “A year ago, 6% of our traffic was coming from mobile. In less than 18 months, that traffic is 10-fold. That shows the significance of what a mobile phone is doing for the consumers and consequently doing for us.” 
 
Now, as the rate of transactions mirror traffic increase on the app, Flipkart’s move to app-only platform makes sense, feels Adnani. He further validated his point by bringing Myntra into discussion. He told Economic Times that Myntra’s growth on the app was higher than that of Flipkart, which led the online fashion retailer to decide to shut down its website and move all operations to its app starting May 1. Flipkart had acquired Myntra last year for Rs 2,000 crore.

A few days back, Amazon had made a cut into a unique periphery. Following the same footprint, now it’s Flipkart. The Bengaluru based ecommerce major has introduced its mobile app for the sellers. 
 
Aimed at building and strengthening the overall marketplace ecosystem, the ‘Seller Hub’ App will help merchants on the Flipkart platform to manage their businesses from anywhere and at any given time. 
 
 
From listings, orders, returns, payments and order fulfillment, the on-the-go solution will provide sellers real-time data on all aspects of their business. 
 
Ankit Nagori, SVP – Marketplace, Flipkart said, “Focused at creating ease and convenience for sellers across the nation, this app will help sellers reach out to 45 million Flipkart customers on-the-go. ” 
 
 
 
“An extension of products and services offered to our sellers, this new app will offer an even playing ground for sellers from both metros and small cities. With smartphones becoming the primary device to access the internet, we are confident that this app will be a big hit amongst our sellers,” he added. 
 
The ‘Seller Hub’ app will see addition of new features in the upcoming months. This will help new sellers to register and kick start their businesses along with enabling the current base of 30,000+ sellers to further streamline the entire process of doing business online.

​Now sellers have their own app with Flipkart

Acquisition in eCommerce sector is the trend these days. As India’s eCommerce is in its maturation period, there are two things happening- acquisition and funding. Soon after Snapdeal acquiring mobile recharge platform Freecharge, rival <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has announced the acquisition of <keyword id="2829367" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="appiterate">Appiterate</keyword>, a mobile engagement and marketing automation company based out of Delhi. 
 
Strategically operating Appiterate targets consumers and increases sales of eCommerce by using push notifications and inapp messages. 
Nishant Verman, Senior Director, Corporate Development-Flipkart told The Economic Times, "Their innovative platform and tech team will bring deep mobile capabilities to the table which is a key focus area for Flipkart." 
 As per a news report by the ET, Appiterate, which started out as a testing platform for mobile apps had raised more than $500,000 from SAIF Partners &amp; angel investors, including former <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> VP of Engineering &amp; Products, Greg Badros and LimeRoad CTO <keyword id="289857" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prashant-Malik">Prashant Malik</keyword> in 2014. 
 
The Appiterate team will join Flipkart, Tanuj Mendiratta, co-founder and CEO, Appiterate has confirmed. Appiterate's mobile marketing automation platform will be integrated into Flipkart's mobile app for better targeting. 
 Flipkart has also said in the near future, it will become a mobile only company. eCommerce firms in India have been increasingly focussing on pushing their mobile app. Online travel company Cleartrip, for instance, said on Wednesday that over 53% of its traffic now comes from the mobile. A majority of customers for <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, Snapdeal and Paytm are also mobile.
