<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Alana Kakoyiannis</span></p><p class="caption">Fintech investor, Peter Thiel.</p></div><p></p></div></div>PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel - one of the biggest names in the world of fintech, or financial technology - is on a European investment spree right now.</p><p>He's just invested €1 million (£744,000, $1.1 million) into German startup Deposit Solutions, a company created to allow people to use products from multiple banks without having to actually switch banks, and to "transform the EUR 9 trillion European market of retail savings deposits with a unique b-to-b approach".</p><p>The investment is Thiel's third in a German fintech startup in the past year. <a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/a10794f2-b55b-11e5-8358-9a82b43f6b2f.html#axzz3wY8zPH7z">As the Financial Times points out</a>, Thiel's VC firm Valar Ventures has already invested in two German startups in the last year. Valar backed Kreditech, a startup for people without much of a credit history, and Number 26, a mobile banking app. Both startups are Berlin based.</p><p>His investment in Deposit Solutions is part of a €6.5 million funding round for Deposit Solutions, led by German VC firm FinLab, but no valuation was given on Deposit Solutions as a whole.</p><p>In an emailed statement from Deposit Solutions, Thiel said: "With its unique approach, Deposit Solutions is revolutionizing the value chain in the retail deposit business by creating significant advantages for savers and banks. It offers a clear, distinct competitive alternative secured by a proprietary technology with the potential to become the new back-end for the European retail deposit market."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Deposit Solutions</span></p><p class="caption">Deposit Solutions founder Dr. Tim Sievers.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Tim Sievers, who founded Deposit Solutions in Hamburg in 2011, welcomed Thiel's investment and explained the company's product, saying: "We introduce to the retail deposits business what has long been a standard for other bank products such as mutual funds and mortgages: an open architecture for instant-access and fixed-term deposit products.</p><p>"With this innovation, we enable banks to reach a new level of customer service and efficiency in their retail deposit business."</p><p>Thiel is one of Silicon Valley's most recognisable investors, and is probably best known as one of the cofounders of PayPal, one of the first successful fintech companies, and for being one of Facebook's first outside backers.</p><p>As well as investment into German fintech startups, Thiel has backed British companies, putting cash into AI company DeepMind before <a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/f92123b2-8702-11e3-aa31-00144feab7de.html#axzz3wY8zPH7z">it was bought by Google in 2014</a>. One of fintech's biggest pioneers is on an investing spree

The company expects that number to grow to 10 million by 2025. Its press release on Thursday said Acorns users have saved and invested over $9.6 billion.</p><p>Institutional investors who are behind the SPAC merger include Wellington Management, TPG, and funds and accounts managed by BlackRock. </p><p>As part of the SPAC merger, several insiders plan to contribute a share of their personal ownership in Acorns to fund a program giving shares to eligible customers.</p><p>"We intent to introduce our share rewards program that will allow eligible customers to own a piece of the company and an even greater piece as they invite others to start the path toward financial wellness," Acorns CEO Noah Kerner said. </p><p>The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2021. Acorns will trade under the ticker symbol "OAKS" on the Nasdaq. </p><p>Shares of Pioneer Merger Corp. traded up about 3% in Thursday morning trades following the news.</p>

Acorns, the app that lets users invest spare change, is going public via SPAC at a valuation of over $2 billion

It has been just over a year since India's mobile payments and Quick Response (QR) pioneer <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword> made its debut on the stock market and the company has made quite an impression. The initial public offering (IPO), which was the largest in the country's history, drew attention from investors far and wide. Paytm's impressive growth has sparked the interest of savvy investors, both retail and institutional, who are clamouring to add more Paytm stock to their portfolios.<br /><br />As the fintech firm continues to make significant strides towards achieving operating profitability, investors' belief in the Paytm story and the company's long-term potential for success has grown stronger than ever.<br /><br />The company's latest shareholding pattern for the quarter that ended December shows that mutual funds increased their stake by 0.47 per cent to 1.73 per cent. Two new mutual funds entered the stock, taking the total mutual fund shareholders in Paytm from 19 to 21 in the December quarter. Meanwhile, more retail investors have also jumped on board, with their shareholding increasing by 3 per cent to 9.7 per cent. Over 70,000 new investors were added during the quarter, bringing the total number of retail shareholders to around 12 lakh.<br /><br />These developments are a clear indication that more Indians believe in Paytm's ability to deliver profitability without compromising on growth. The increase in domestic investors' shareholding is a vote of confidence in the company's future prospects.<br /><br />Global investment firm <keyword id="6361649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goldman-sachs" source="Orion">Goldman Sachs</keyword> expects Paytm to be adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) positive by the March quarter, two quarters ahead of the estimates and the company's guidance of September 2023. Goldman Sachs has reiterated its 'Buy' rating for Paytm and has upwardly revised its share price target to Rs 1,120. The firm has stated that the current share price continues to offer a compelling entry point into India's largest and one of the fastest-growing fintech platforms.<br /><br />The increase in shareholding by domestic investors is also a positive sign for the Indian economy, as it shows that more and more Indians are investing in the country's rapidly growing fintech sector. An increase in retail shareholding can bring a number of benefits for a company. One of the most significant benefits is increased liquidity, which can help to stabilise the stock price and improve overall market sentiment. Retail shareholders also tend to have a long-term investment horizon and may be more likely to hold on to their shares, making the company more attractive to investors.<br /><br />The overall <keyword id="44528" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fdi" source="Orion">FDI</keyword> shareholding in Paytm has declined from 71.49 per cent to 66.12 per cent, mainly because of SoftBank offloading a 4.53 per cent stake. The Japanese conglomerate, through its <keyword id="4031888" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vision-fund" source="Orion">Vision Fund</keyword>, continues to own 12.92 per cent of Paytm. Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPI) holding in the company has gone up by 0.91 per cent to 6.68 per cent. The number of FPIs holding the Paytm stock has increased from 88 to 128 in the third quarter, representing a net addition of 40 investors. <br /><br />As a pioneer in India's fintech revolution, Paytm has been at the forefront of the country's technology-driven shift towards a cashless economy. The <keyword id="13945656" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paytm-super-app" source="Orion">Paytm Super App</keyword> has become a household name that is synonymous with convenience and ease of use.<br /><br />Paytm is expected to post another strong quarter when it announces Q3 (third quarter) results. Meanwhile, its Q3 operating performance update shows strong growth in monthly transacting users, loan disbursals and devices deployed. According to data available, eight out of 12 analysts tracking the company have a 'buy' rating. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Thomson Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Blankfein speaks at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>Goldman Sachs has launched a new incubator program, according to a memo seen by Business Insider. </strong></li><li><strong>The point of the program is to keep good ideas within the firm by providing resources to help people turn out-of-the-box ideas into real businesses. </strong></li></ul><p>On Wall Street, they say a company's most valuable asset walks out the door at the end of the work day. </p><p>So how does a large bank like Goldman Sachs hold on to its people who want to swap their suit jacket for a Silicon Valley hoodie? It launches an incubator. </p><p>That's exactly what Goldman has done, according to a memo seen by Business Insider. In an internal memo, chief executive Lloyd Blankfein and president David Solomon announced GS Accelerate, a new incubator that'll provide employees with capital to help turn out-of-the-box ideas into to real businesses within the bank.</p><p>Goldman's chief strategy officer Stephanie Cohen will work with leaders across the bank to select teams for the incubator, the memo said. </p><p>"By applying to GS Accelerate, you will have an opportunity to submit ideas that can deliver best-in-class solutions for our clients, take Goldman Sachs into new business areas, manage risk and tackle inefficiencies in our operations," the memo said. </p><p>Of course, this isn't just a human capital play. Keeping good ideas within the firm could translate into new businesses that drive growth, cut costs, or generate returns.</p><p>Ideally, those business will experience the same amount of success as Goldman's <a href="http://www.goldmansachs.com/media-relations/press-releases/current/announcement-marcus-by-goldman-sachs.html">retail lending arm Marcus</a>, launched in 2016, which was able to originate more than $1 billion in loans quicker than any of the bank's small fintech rivals. </p><p>"If we're creative, imaginative and learn from what did and didn't work, GS Accelerate can become a powerful engine to bring important ideas to life and continue our long tradition of pioneering innovations that eventually become standard in our industry," the memo said. </p><h2>How will it work?</h2><p>At a firm like Goldman Sachs, it can be hard for new ideas to make their way through the red-tape, especially if it's an idea that's tangential to the main business. GS Accelerate attempts to address that.</p><p>For instance, let's say a FICC trader has a new idea for the bank's burgeoning retail business. Typically, that would be difficult - if not impossible - to get through the traditional chains of command. Through GS Accelerate, however, that trader could submit their idea online, which would then be reviewed by business leaders at the firm.</p><p>Ultimately, that idea could be picked alongside others for the program, which provides the necessary resources and access to mentors. Goldman Sachs is launching an incubator to create a startup engine within the Wall Street giant

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Music mogul Russell Simmons is getting into the NFT market with his "Masterminds of Hip Hop" collection. </li><li>The Def Jam Recordings founder worked with rapper and NFT collector Snoop Dogg and other genre icons. </li><li>The NFT market was recently valued around $768 billion and is part of the $2 trillion cryptocurrency market. </li></ul><p>Def Jam Recordings founder Russell Simmons is moving into the nearly $800 billion NFT market with a project centered on pioneers in the hip hop music industry and curated with rapper and NFT collector Snoop Dogg.</p><p>Official sales for the <a href="https://paybbynft.com/the-masterminds.html">"Masterminds of Hip Hop" collection</a> will go live on October 10, with presales already running on the website of Paybby, a startup digital bank and fintech company. Simmons also teamed up with Tokau - a sales platform for non-fungible tokens - on the project which is a two-part collection that will have at least 40 NFTs and will include never-before-released recordings. </p><p>A "respect for the founding fathers of hip hop needs a reboot," Simmons was <a href="https://decrypt.co/82710/hip-hop-mogul-russell-simmons-binance-smart-chain-nft-snoop-dogg">quoted as saying by DeCrypt</a> on a Zoom call Tuesday discussing his motivation behind entering the NFT space. The market has boomed in popularity over the last year, with its valuation climbing to around $768 billion as of Wednesday, <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/nft/">according to CoinMarketCap</a>. </p><p>The first group of 27 NFTs includes fan cards that resemble baseball cards emblazoned with images of Simmons, Chuck D, rapper Doug E Fresh and other artists and producers who drove the rise of hip hop, a genre that's morphed into a worldwide phenomenon from its roots in the Bronx in New York City. </p><p>Simmons and Snoop Dogg are among the many high-profile names who have jumped into the NFT space, ranging from singer Katy Perry, NBA team Golden State Warriors, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey <a href="https://twitter.com/jack/status/20">who sold his first-ever tweet</a> as an <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/jack-dorsey-nft-first-ever-tweet-sold-29-million-twitter-2021-3">NFT for $2.9 million</a>. He donated the money to charity. Snoop Dogg's ventures into the world of NFTs were highlighted by his claim last month that he's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/cryptocurrency/news/rapper-snoop-dogg-claims-to-be-running-nft-twitters-cozmomedici-account/articleshow/86393409.cms">behind an influential NFT account</a> on Twitter called <a href="https://twitter.com/CozomoMedici">CozmoMedici</a>.</p><p>People buying NFTs gain the rights to their <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-are-people-buying-nfts-investing-in-nft-crypto-art-2021-3?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingestarkets&amp;utm_medium=ingest">unique tokens</a> on a blockchain. People buying from Simmons' collection can use debit or credit cards to pay for their purchase without buying and exchanging crypto, a tactic that DeCrypt said helped NBA Top Shot digital collectibles pull in mainstream collectors. </p><p>Paybby CEO Hassan Miah said the "Masterminds of Hip Hop" collection are BSC-20 tokens on Binance Smart Chain, responding to a viewer on Tuesday's call who noted high <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/eth-usd">Ethereum</a> gas fees associated with NFTs, the DeCrypt report said.</p><p>Many rappers and DJs who pioneered hip hop never received accolades or financial benefits that should have come from their work, said Simmons.</p><p>"[This] is my chance to use a new vehicle to revisit and repay these amazing artists while they are still living," said Simmons <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/russell-simmons-collaborates-with-tokau-to-exclusively-launch-a-nft-collection-aptly-named-masterminds-of-hip-hop-301318072.html">in a statement in June</a>. </p>
