In a ManpowerGroup survey of employers, almost half of them (49%) expect to increase their workforce, while 13% anticipate a decrease in hiring in the upcoming quarter. Around 34% do not foresee any changes in their staffing levels. Although there has been a decline of 15% in hiring sentiments compared to the same period last year, there is a notable growth of 6% as compared to the previous quarter. In the region, India ranks second in markets that intend to hire after Australia, and fifth globally. Interestingly, 84% of employers said they are recruiting for green jobs or roles requiring green skills. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Hiring by industries">Hiring by industries</cmsannotation> In the upcoming quarter, an increase in employment is projected across all eleven industry sectors. The finance, insurance, and real estate sector follow closely with a positive outlook of 41%, and the healthcare, and life sciences sector also shows strong hiring intentions with a 40% positive outlook. These industries demonstrate promising hiring prospects, and are expected to experience growth in their workforce. Says Sandeep Gulati, managing director, ManpowerGroup India, and Middle East, “India is one of the significant IT talent hubs for tech companies across the globe. Coupled with that, is the government’s continuous reinforcement in the semiconductor industry, both of which is fortifying the <keyword id="46964" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="it-sector" source="Orion">IT sector</keyword> as the dominant player for growth in the Indian job market.” <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Hiring by region">Hiring by region</cmsannotation> Employers in all four regions are optimistic about expanding their payrolls in the third quarter of 2023. The West shows the most promising hiring pace, with a positive net employment outlook of 42%. Following closely, the North, and South regions have positive outlooks of 39%, and 33% respectively. The East also forecasts dynamic hiring activity with an outlook of 29%. However, it is worth noting that hiring prospects have weakened compared to the same period last year.

White collar hiring strong in Q2 but freshers have a problem

The Indian IT sector is facing rough weather and to add to the worries of job seekers, <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword> said the IT industry will create 20-38% fewer jobs this fiscal. While the IT sector added 1.8 lakh jobs in FY17, the FY18 will see less <keyword id="81847" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Job-creation">job creation</keyword> and the industry would create 1.3-1.5 lakh new jobs. One of the reasons of the job loss is automation, Nasscom president R Chandrashekhar said automation was leading to job loss but new ones are also being created. Companies are now focussing on automation and restructuring its workforce to deal with automation and achieve cost savings. <keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword> and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> cut down their staff to trim costs. "Tech is eliminating jobs in every sector, including IT. It is also creating jobs. Countries like the US and UK have been adopters of technology and have experienced the same cycle. Today , their unemployment levels are close to zero. While there is job loss and pain, ultimately , it is the only route to economic prosperity ," said Chandrasekhar. Here’s some bad news for job seekers in the IT sector

 The finding comes in the backdrop of an ongoing job crisis in the country in an election year during slowdown in job growth across all sectors. Nonetheless, two leading IT firms in India — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/These-2-Indian-IT-majors-hired-more-than-42000-techies-in-fiscal-year-2019/articleshow/69000671.cms">reportedly</a> increased their hiring by 350% in FY19. The IT sector faced some troubled waters back in 2017, when tech firms all over India laid off around 56,000 workers allegedly due to digitisation and automation. A recent <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/education/five-million-jobs-lost-between-2016-18-says-report/story-9OsA2pHxyvto4qoiDUSLMI.html">analysis</a> by a research team at Azim Premji University painted a grim picture, saying over 5 million jobs were lost in India between the years of 2016 and 2018. The IT sector, nonetheless, seems to have turned a corner in the last two quarters. And, the Experis IT Employment Outlook Survey <a href="https://www.experisindia.com/outlook_survey.php">predicted</a> as much, expecting a positive net employment outlook of 53% between October 2018 and March 2019. But, the survey also pointed out how most of the employment will be generated by non-IT companies looking to transform digitally. As much as 45% of the demand for IT professionals would come from companies involved in utilities, finance, manufacturing and retail. The rapid evolution of machines and algorithms in the workplace could create 133 million new roles in place of 75 million that will be displaced between now and 2022, Even NASSCOM backed that claim with their own <a href="https://www.nasscom.in/newsline/envisioning-future-jobs">study</a> indicating how <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">artificial intelligence</keyword> (AI), internet of things (IoT) and big data analytics would drive <keyword id="59516" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-hiring">IT hiring</keyword> in the future. And, while the change in the nature of IT jobs will create 133 million new opportunities, it will also result in the displacement of 75 million jobs by 2022 <a href="https://www.weforum.org/press/2018/09/machines-will-do-more-tasks-than-humans-by-2025-but-robot-revolution-will-still-create-58-million-net-new-jobs-in-next-five-years/">according</a> to the World Economic Forum. This phenomenon can be observed in India where the overall number of employees in the top two IT firms in India — TCS and Infosys — has increased, but the net addition per quarter has been dipping in the past two quarters. Even though, for FY19, hiring between the two has grown 350%.

 But, it’s not that jobs don’t exist — the problem is more about the growing skill gap that is indicative of a much more severe issue at an education level. Employers are looking to hire individuals for very specific tasks that require a specialised skill set meanwhile higher education institutes are still giving out generic and broad degrees. LinkedIn estimates that the demand for big data professionals will only increase in the future, hitting nearly 40% over the next two years. The situation is already so severe that earlier this year in February, over 150 individuals with Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and engineering degrees <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/in-india-mbas-and-engineering-graduates-compete-for-sanitation-jobs/articleshow/67866169.cms">applied</a> for the 14 available posts at the Sanitation Department in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

India currently faces a shortage of 2.41 million skilled workers in the telecom sector in the 5G era, which is forecast to jump by 3.8 times by 2030, a report showed on Friday. The country will require 22 million skilled workers in 5G-focused industries by 2025, in areas such as cloud computing, robots and the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the key challenges is that only 40 per cent of India's graduates in computer science, IT, and math are employable in the technology sector due to the mismatch between academic requirements and industry demands, according to the report by the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), launched in association with enterprise decision-making platform Draup at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 here. The number of employed talent in the Indian telecom industry is currently 11.59 million, with 2.95 million corporate talent and 8.24 million blue-collar talent. According to the report, India is the only country expected to have a skilled labour surplus, with 1.3 million workers in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector by 2030. "In anticipation of the upcoming 6G era, our focus remains on aligning our skilling initiatives with cutting-edge technologies, ensuring a workforce ready for the future of telecom," said Atul Tiwari, Secretary, <keyword id="2485309" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-skill-development" source="Orion">Ministry of Skill Development</keyword> and Entrepreneurship. The report, titled '<keyword id="19288877" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="telecom-talent" source="Orion">Telecom Talent</keyword> in 5G Era: Demand Supply Skill Gap Report 2023-24', highlighted that across 15 top streams, network operation and maintenance and project engineering have the most corporate talent, while network operation and maintenance and sales and distribution - service segment have the most blue-collar talent. According to Arvind Bali, CEO, TSSC, the telecom sector is the third-largest industry in India that accounts for roughly 6.5 per cent of all FDI inflow and also by 2027, the country is anticipated to account for 11 per cent of all 5G subscriptions worldwide. "India has a good chance to close the growing demand-supply gap by 2030 with the proper reskilling and hiring strategies that target adjacent talent in tier 2 and 3 cities and university supply," said Bali. With the help of AI, even more powerful 6G network technologies will emerge in the future, the report mentioned.

Only 40% of India's IT, Comp Sc, math graduates employable in tech sector says TSSC

If you are looking for a job in sector such as wholesale, retail (including e-Commerce), utilities -mainly logistics - and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=transportation">transportation</a>, there is a good news for you. These sectors are likely to hire aggressively in the fourth quarter, ending December 2015. 
 
Globally, Indian employers are the most upbeat on hiring plans in the Q4, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. 
 
The survey also said that more than 41% of employers in India would be looking at increasing hiring numbers for the fourth quarter as compared to the quarter ending September. 
 
The survey covered around 5,000 employers in India and found that about 45% and 44% of employers in the wholesale &amp; retail sector (including e-Commerce) and the transportation &amp; utilities sector, respectively, are looking at increased hiring in the next quarter compared to the previous one. 
 
From a regional perspective, around 42% employers in the eastern region anticipate the most opportunities for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=job+seekers+">job seekers</a> in the months ahead. 
 
Moreover, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=e-Commerce">e-Commerce</a> sector will provide more job opportunities. “With the onset of the festival season, there is a renewed focus on employing additional staff to boost businesses and greater hiring is expected across all domains," said AG Rao, group managing director at <keyword id="652409" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ManpowerGroup-India">ManpowerGroup India</keyword>. 
 In view of the positive outlook for the <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword>, e-Commerce firms are ramping up their workforce across functions, particularly engineers and other specialists with an intention to be technology, product and engineering-driven companies, added Rao. 
 <keyword id="6357066" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ShopClues">Shopclues</keyword>.com, for instance, is planning to add 1,200 employees to its team of 800, while <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal+">Snapdeal</a> is looking at doubling its headcount of 5,000 by FY16. 
 
"We have robust hiring plans in place for the coming months. Most e-Commerce companies at this stage are busy ramping up their teams," said ShopClues co-founder, Sanjay Sethi. 
 
At the same time some industry sectors reported weaker hiring plans when compared with the fourth quarter of 2014. 
 Mining &amp; construction sector employers report the most notable decline of nine percentage points while outlooks are seven and four percentage points weaker in the <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance">finance</keyword>, <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> and <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="real-estate">real estate</keyword> sector and the services sector, respectively. 
 
However, while comparing Q4 outlook with the Q3 2015, hiring intentions remain relatively stable in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=finance%2C+insurance+%26+real+estate+sector+">finance, insurance &amp; real estate sector</a> and the mining &amp; construction sector. 
 
French multinational, Saint Gobain, is also looking at adding more to its manufacturing and marketing teams. "India is a very important market for Saint Gobain and in the coming months, we hire for new positions in manufacturing and marketing," said P Padmakumar, team leader &amp; head -human resources, flat glass business.

New Delhi, Dec 9 () India is expected to witness a marginal 7 per cent rise in job creation in the October-March period of this financial year, as subdued economic conditions have dampened employment outlook, a report said on Monday.
 According to TeamLease's bi-annual Employment Outlook Report for HY2 2019, economic reforms lifted the spirits for seven of the 19 sectors surveyed, while nine sectors reported a decrease in their outlook for October-March period of this fiscal.
 India will witness a 7.12 per cent increase in job creation in the current half year (October-March, 2019-20), it said.
 Positive hiring outlook was reported in sectors like healthcare &amp; pharmaceuticals, information technology, e-commerce and tech start-ups, educational services, KPO, power and energy, and logistics.
 The sectors that are expected to witness decrease in hiring include manufacturing, engineering and infrastructure, construction and real estate, financial services, retail, BPO/ITeS, telecommunications, travel and hospitality, FMCG and agriculture and agrochemicals.
 "Though the lowering of the GDP growth projection seems to have dampened the net employment outlook in some of the sectors, the job creation across sectors is on a growth trajectory," TeamLease Services co-founder &amp; Executive Vice President Rituparna Chakraborty said. 
 She further noted that "8 out of the 19 sectors are expected to witness a double digit rise in job creation. Logistics and educational services alone will add 14.36 per cent more jobs during the period October-March, 2019-20 indicating the dip in the net employment outlook to be more of a passing phase."
 While Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Kolkata indicated positive sentiment, Indore, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Nagpur exhibited varying levels of negative sentiment for October-March 2019-20 period compared to April-September 2019-20.
 As per the report, global markets witnessed a drop in net employment outlook for the October-March period. 
 Europe saw the most significant drop in net employment outlook, followed by Africa and the Americas.
 The Middle East (no change) and APAC (up 1 per cent) weathered global headwinds and stayed strong, the report said.

New Delhi, As the <keyword id="43587" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pandemic">pandemic</keyword> has severely impacted <keyword id="9557530" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="several-sectors">several sectors</keyword> along with the country's job scenario, a <keyword id="2496484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG-report">KPMG report</keyword> has suggested that the <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> should take appropriate measures to boost <keyword id="6355127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment">employment</keyword> along with targeted short-term direct income transfers to vulnerable groups who have been hit hard during these tough times. The report on the impact of the pandemic on potential income and employment in India noted that as per KPMG survey, employment in the country may decline by 11.6 to 31.1% over 2019-20 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown. It added that the vastness of the informal sector is likely to cause a disproportionate effect. "Appropriate measures for boosting employment and output in selected sectors need to be taken in addition to targeted short-term direct income transfers to vulnerable groups who are hard hit during the pandemic," it said. India's informal sector is the largest in the world, employing almost 90.7% of the total workforce in FY18 and contributing 45% of GDP. Most of these jobs are concentrated in the agriculture, construction sector and small-scale manufacturing and services sectors. For employment generation in agriculture and allied activities, the KPMG report suggested the increase in final demand in the sector through pushing investment or private and government consumption expenditures. "There is a need to share a clear plan on the mode through which ₹1.5 trillion investment will happen along with the timelines," it said. It recommended the commissioning of a crisis management construction task force team for fast-tracking some specific projects that are impacted by Covid-19 and suggesting policy interventions without changing the infrastructure targets, among other suggestions across sectors. 'Employment boosting steps, direct income transfers needed amid pandemic', says KPMG report

<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s <keyword id="414814" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy-sector" source="Orion">renewable energy sector</keyword> has the potential to employ around one million people by 2030, and most of the new jobs would be generated by small-scale renewable energy projects, according to a study. India's renewable energy sector could potentially employ around one million people by 2030, which would be ten times more than the existing workforce of an estimated 1.1 lakh employed by the sector, according to an independent study released on Thursday by the <keyword id="3502332" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="council-on-energy" source="Orion">Council on Energy</keyword>, <keyword id="3502333" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="environment-and-water" source="Orion">Environment and Water</keyword> (CEEW), <keyword id="172147" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Natural-Resources-Defense-Council" source="Orion">Natural Resources Defense Council</keyword> (NRDC) and Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ). The study "India's Expanding Clean Energy Workforce" highlighted that most of the new jobs would be generated by small-scale renewable energy projects such as rooftop solar and mini and micro-grid systems compared to utility or large-scale projects like solar parks. The CEEW-NRDC-SCGJ analysis also highlighted the adverse impact of the pandemic on employment in the renewable energy sector. In comparison to 12,400 new workers employed in the sector in FY19, only 5,200 new workers were employed in FY20 and 6400 were employed in FY21, it said. In FY21, a majority of the new workers were employed in the rooftop solar segment where annual capacity additions grew by nine per cent over FY20 and accounted for 1.4 GW capacity, it added. The study further noted that India has successfully trained 78,000 people under the Suryamitra training program, between 2015 and 2017, to improve the availability of skilled workers for clean energy projects. "The upcoming Union Budget must especially focus on scaling up rooftop solar, mini and micro grid systems, and domestic solar manufacturing to maximise the employment opportunities in the sector," Dr Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, CEEW said. India's renewable energy sector can employ one million people by 2030, says study

<ul><li><keyword id="6354321" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="bengaluru" source="Orion">Bengaluru</keyword> tops the list with the highest hiring sentiment in the services sector, <keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword> tops the list in the manufacturing sector. </li><li>The recovery from Covid-19 pandemic and government initiatives is believed to have fueled growth in companies across sectors.</li><li>Tier-1 cities have the highest hiring intent but Tier-2 cities are not far behind.</li></ul>Bengaluru and Mumbai emerged as sunshine locations for hiring in India in the fourth quarter of FY23. This has reportedly been fueled by the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and initiatives by the government, says a <keyword id="133742" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="teamlease" source="Orion">Teamlease</keyword> report. According to the TeamLease Employment Outlook Report for Q4, Bengaluru and Mumbai have emerged as the cities with the highest hiring sentiment in the services and manufacturing sectors respectively. “Surplus public investment in PLI schemes, the Indian Government's asset monetization programme, increased private participation in key sectors, and the revisions in FDI laws in the defence and telecom sectors has fueled growth in companies across sectors, especially in Tier 1 and Tier 2 locations. Companies are therefore shoring up their talent pool to meet their increasing requirements,” said Kartik Narayan, chief executive officer, TeamLease Services. TeamLease Services is one of the country’s leading human resource companies and offers its services to over 3,500 employers. In the services sector, Bengaluru tops the list with 97% of employers expressing a higher hiring interest, followed by Chennai with 94%, Delhi with 90%, Hyderabad with 86% and Mumbai with 85%. When it comes to the manufacturing sector, Mumbai tops the list with 97% of employers expressing a higher hiring sentiment, followed by Bengaluru with 94%, Chennai with 89%, Delhi with 84% and Pune with 73%. Bengaluru has shown the highest hiring intent, emerging as one of the top-two cities in both the sectors. Bengaluru and Mumbai have emerged as ‘sweet spots’ from a holistic perspective across sectors. However, Tier-3 cities and rural areas are lagging behind with just 46% and 24% of employers expressing a hiring intent, respectively. In the services sector, e-commerce and allied startups have the highest hiring intent at 98%, followed by telecommunications at 94% and educational services at 93%. On the other hand, healthcare and pharmaceuticals dominate the list in the manufacturing sector with a 98% hiring intent, followed by FMCG at 86% and electric vehicle (EV) and infrastructure industry at 71%. "India’s GDP vision and multiple domestic focused initiatives has provided the much-needed impetus to the industry post the pandemic. This in turn has given a fillip to employment generation; improving the intent to hire across sectors, locations and industries. 60% employers in manufacturing and 77% in services, inclining to hire more, is a testament to the growing opportunities in the ecosystem,” said Mayur Taday, chief business officer, TeamLease Services. Bengaluru, Mumbai sunshine locations for hiring in Q4: Teamlease report

Note: I added President Carter.
Important: There are many differences between these periods. Overall employment was smaller in the '80s, so a different comparison might be to look at the percentage change. Of course the participation rate was increasing in the '80s (younger population and women joining the labor force), and the participation rate is declining now. But these graphs give an overview of employment changes.
The first graph shows the change in private sector payroll jobs from when each president took office until the end of their term(s). President George H.W. Bush only served one term, and President Obama is just starting the second year of his second term.
Mr. G.W. Bush (red) took office following the bursting of the stock market bubble, and left during the bursting of the housing bubble. Mr. Obama (blue) took office during the financial crisis and great recession. There was also a significant recession in the early '80s right after Mr. Reagan (yellow) took office.
There was a recession towards the end of President G.H.W. Bush (purple) term, and Mr Clinton (light blue) served for eight years without a recession.

The first graph is for private employment only.
The employment recovery during Mr. G.W. Bush's (red) first term was very sluggish, and private employment was down 841,000 jobs at the end of his first term. At the end of Mr. Bush's second term, private employment was collapsing, and there were net 462,000 private sector jobs lost during Mr. Bush's two terms.
Private sector employment increased slightly under President G.H.W. Bush (purple), with 1,510,000 private sector jobs added.
Private sector employment increased by 20,955,000 under President Clinton (light blue), by 14,717,000 under President Reagan (yellow), and 9,041,000 under President Carter (dashed green).
There were only 1,998,000 more private sector jobs at the end of Mr. Obama's first term. Just over one year into Mr. Obama's second term, there are now 4,690,000 more private sector jobs than when he initially took office.
A big difference between the presidencies has been public sector employment. Note the bumps in public sector employment due to the decennial Census in 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010.

The public sector grew during Mr. Carter's term (up 1,304,000), during Mr. Reagan's terms (up 1,414,000), during Mr. G.H.W. Bush's term (up 1,127,000), during Mr. Clinton's terms (up 1,934,000), and during Mr. G.W. Bush's terms (up 1,744,000 jobs).
However the public sector has declined significantly since Mr. Obama took office (down 738,000 jobs). These job losses have mostly been at the state and local level, but more recently at the Federal level. This has been a significant drag on overall employment.
Looking forward, I expect the economy to continue to expand for the next few years, so I don't expect a sharp decline in private employment as happened at the end of Mr. Bush's 2nd term (In 2005 and 2006 I was warning of a coming recession due to the bursting of the housing bubble).
A big question is when the public sector layoffs will end. It appears the cutbacks are mostly over at the state and local levels, but there are ongoing cutbacks at the Federal level. Right now I'm expecting some increase in public employment in 2014.<div class="feed-footer-wrapper"><div class="feed-footer">

Here's What Job Creation Looked Like Under The Last 6 Presidents

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The latest <keyword id="134929" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="jobs-report">jobs report</keyword> came in far below economists' estimates.</li><li>But the hard-hit sector leisure and hospitality saw another month of strong gains.</li><li>Professional and business services saw the largest job decline between March and April. </li></ul>The leisure and hospitality sector was the only major industry to see a six-digit job gain between March and April. The US added just <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/april-jobs-report-266000-payrolls-unemployment-rate-labor-market-recovery-2021-5">266,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in April,</a> according to the latest jobs report from the <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf">Bureau of Labor Statistics</a>. This increase was far below the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/06/april-jobs-expected-to-top-1-million-as-consumers-boost-the-economy.html">1-million job gains economists</a> expected to see. BLS wrote in the report that the leisure and hospitality sector saw 331,000 jobs added in April "as pandemic-related restrictions continued to ease in many parts of the country." <keyword id="6355127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="employment">Employment</keyword> gains across sectors were not as spread out as they were in March. The following chart shows what sectors saw job gains and losses from March to April:The biggest rebound in April was in leisure and hospitality; this was the third-consecutive month of job gains for this sector. Most of the jobs added in leisure and hospitality were from food services and drinking places. Food services and drinking places added 187,000 jobs last month, but the industry is still 13.5% below its pre-pandemic employment level from February 2020. "At least job gains picked up in the leisure and hospitality sector, where job growth is desperately needed," Nick Bunker, an economist at Indeed, said in a statement about the latest figures. "But the gains were not as fast as hoped for or, frankly, as needed. Employment in these industries is still almost 17% below pre-pandemic levels."The sector that saw the second-most gains was government. This sector's employment rose by 48,000 last month. BLS noted that most of the gains in this sector were in local education, which added 31,000 jobs in April. After adding jobs in March, employment in professional and business services dropped the most last month. This sector lost 79,000 jobs last month. BLS wrote in the jobs report that "employment in temporary help services declined by 111,000" in this sector. Construction, however, did not see any employment change from March to April. The sector did add 97,000 jobs in March after a loss of 57,000 jobs in February."Shockingly in a period of quickly rising housing prices, construction industries added no new jobs in April," Bunker said.
