The planned visit from Elon Musk coincided with the ongoing National Lok Sabha Elections in India. While this might have benefitted the ruling party amid the crucial elections, the opposition is now capitalising on the delay in Musk's visit. The American company’s expansion into India is a part of its larger mission to cover regions where Tesla still lacks a presence, like Eastern Europe, China and Japan by the end of 2019. The India-Musk story Tesla Indian debut first came into <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/auto/car-news/great-news-for-tesla-lovers-elon-musk-said-this-about-tesla-coming-to-india/1186997/">news</a> when bookings for the Tesla Model 3 were opened to the public. Elon Musk even asserted that the company is soon going to open bookings in India. Despite the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Silicon valley in 2015, Tesla Motors and the Indian government did not make any plans for market expansion. But, come 2017, Musk announced that the company wanted to mark it’s Indian debut with Model 3 — the most affordable car produced by the company so far. But Indian market remained untouched due to tough FDI norms that dictate that at least 30% of the products used for manufacturing have to locally sourced. Soon after his arrival here and an interaction with the Indian-American community, the prime minister left for the facility of Tesla that was was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers who wanted to prove that electric cars can be better than gasoline-powered cars. 
 Modi, who had landed at the Norman Y. Minte San Jose International Airport, was driven around the facility in a battery-powered cart after which he also posed for some photos standing next to a gleaming red car manufactured by the company with chief executive <keyword id="6355315" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Elon-Musk">Elon Musk</keyword>. 
 
"Prime Minister Modi and I talked about electricity generation and how there are ways to skip ahead with it as with cellphones," Musk, the company's principal engineer, inventor and investor told PTI later.

PM Narendra Modi visits Tesla Motors HQ

Elon Musk-run <keyword id="107096" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tesla" source="Orion">Tesla</keyword>, who has seen its stock nosediving more than 60 per cent this year, has warned employees about another round of layoffs early next year, along with a complete hiring freeze. In June, <keyword id="364027" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="musk" source="Orion">Musk</keyword> had asked Tesla executives to "pause all hiring" and cut 10 per cent of staff, along with freezing hiring. The electric car-maker company had resumed hiring during the second half of the year. The new round of layoffs, according to Electrek, will come in the next quarter (January-March 2023). "It's not clear how extensive the hiring freeze will be as Tesla is still planning to expand in some manufacturing locations. No further details were made available at this time," the report said late on Wednesday. Tesla has communicated to some employees that it is stopping hiring for now. The company also said that teams will be expected to make layoffs during the "first quarter of 2023". Tesla is facing pressures from its recent steep stock price drop, which began in late September, and got worsened with Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter. Electric car company Tesla's shares tumbled further to around $137 apiece, its lowest ever, as <keyword id="6355315" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="elon-musk" source="Orion">Elon Musk</keyword> on Wednesday again blamed global macroeconomic conditions. Tesla shares are down more than 60 per cent, as Musk is busy micro-managing daily affairs at Twitter. Tesla bull Ross Gerber tweeted this week: "Tesla stock price now reflects the value of having no CEO. Great job tesla BOD -- Time for a shake up. $tsla." Musk replied: "As bank savings account interest rates, which are guaranteed, start to approach stock market returns, which are not guaranteed, people will increasingly move their money out of stocks into cash, thus causing stocks to drop." Gerber further said that "Tesla needs a media and comms team; Tesla needs a succession plan as well as clarify when Elon will be back from twitter; Tesla needs to communicate about Elon's stock sales and a stand still agreement should be made". Tesla set for another round of layoffs in early 2023, pauses hiring

San Francisco, July 12 (IANS) After several attempts in the past to launch Tesla cars for the Indian roads, <keyword id="6355315" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="elon-musk">Elon Musk</keyword> is yet to inaugurate a Tesla showroom in India. However, he has once again hinted to let his Indian fans drive an electric Model 3 "hopefully soon". In response to a query by a follower who booked the car four years ago, Musk replied that the "launch should hopefully happen soon". "Dear @elonmusk. When is the Tesla3 expected in India? Booked over 4 years ago!!" asked Arvind Gupta. "Sorry, should hopefully be soon!" replied Musk. Musk has been moving back and forth on his India dream for couple of years. He has blamed the Indian government's policies for giving up on his India dreams. He also criticised the FDI norms for the delay in the electric car maker's entry into the Indian market. "Would love to be in India. Some challenging government regulations, unfortunately," Musk had tweeted in response to a Twitter user who wrote "No Tesla in India" on his Twitter handle. Tesla's Indian-origin Chief Financial Officer Deepak Ahuja announced his retirement from the firm last year, bringing Musk's India dream to a halt again. Tesla was expected to enter India with the Model 3 that sells for nearly $35,000. In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Tesla headquarters at Palo Alto, California and met Musk who gave Modi a tour of the company's electric car plant. Tesla has not launched any of its electric cars in India or any other country in South Asia yet. The only Asian market where Tesla has a presence is China.

Initially intended for release months ago, the rollout of the "Request FSD Beta" button has been delayed multiple times, reports Teslarati. True to Elon Musk's recent statements on Twitter, however, the wait for the famed button is now over, with Tesla releasing the function in its software update 2021.32.22. Tesla requires owners to agree to some terms and conditions for the FSD Beta programme. First off, the company noted that owners must "consent to the collection and review of ongoing VIN-associated vehicle driving data" while enrolled in the programme, the report said. Musk revealed his plans to bring Tesla cars to India in his response to a Twitter post that asked about the progress on Tesla's planned entry into India. "Next year for sure," Musk said in response to the tweet that posted pictures of T-shirts with "India wants Tesla" and "India loves Tesla" printed on them. "Thanks for waiting," he added. On several occasions earlier, Musk had revealed that he would like to bring Tesla to India, but in a 2018 Twitter post he cited "some challenging government regulations" as a hurdle. He also criticised the foreign direct investment norms for the delay in the electric car maker's entry into the Indian market. "Would love to be in India. Some challenging government regulations, unfortunately," Musk had tweeted in response to a Twitter user who wrote "No Tesla in India" on his Twitter handle. In July this year, he hinted at allowing Tesla's Indian fans to drive an electric Model 3 "hopefully soon". In response to a query by a follower who booked the car four years ago, Musk replied that the "launch should hopefully happen soon". However, Friday's tweet gives a more definitive timeline of Tesla's possible India entry. This comes at a time when India is ramping up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles with the aim of significantly increasing the proportion of electric vehicles plying on the roads.
