The agency's zonal office here raided at least six premises in Leh town of Ladakh, Jammu in J-K and Sonipat in Haryana in the case against A R Mir and others. It is alleged that 2,508 investors deposited more than Rs 7.34 crore in a fake cryptocurrency business in the name of "<keyword id="22638371" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Emollient-Coin-Limited" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Emollient Coin Limited" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Emollient Coin Limited">Emollient Coin Limited</keyword>". They, however, did not get any returns or currency back, and these funds were laundered by the business' promoters to purchase land assets in Jammu. The money laundering case stems from a March 2020 FIR registered in Leh and some other complaints filed in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) against Mir and Ajay Kumar Choudhary. Police in Leh in their FIR stated that an inquiry was conducted by a committee formed by the local district magistrate against Mir and his agents who were running the "fake" cryptocurrency business (Emollient Coin Limited) from a office located at the Anjuman Moin-Ul-complex, opposite SNM Hospital, in Leh. The committee sealed this office during inquiry on charges of "cheating many innocent individuals by assuring them to double their investment", according to the FIR. The accused lured people of the UT of Ladakh and some other places to purchase "Emollient Coin" using cash or transferring money into bank accounts, according to Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. The depositors were also duped in the name of "Bitcoins" with the assurance of returns up to 40 per cent with a lock-in period of 10 months, the probe agency said. Investors were dished out a commission of up to seven per cent of the investment made by the people on their reference in the business, thereby forming a multi-level marketing chain, the ED found. A total of 2,508 people invested Rs 7,34,36,267 in the investment plan offered by Mir and the company (Emollient) floated by him that was incorporated in September 2017 and had its registered office in London. A man, Henry Maxwell, living in the UK capital, was its director. The company had two promoters in India -- Naresh Gullia and Channi Singh. The company was "deliberately" dissolved in March 2019, and Mir along with Choudhary launched a real estate business and acquired lands in Jammu from the funds generated by the fake cryptocurrency trade, according to the ED. ED undertakes first-ever searches in Ladakh in crypto fraud case

The <keyword id="19895344" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Enforcement-Directorate" source="keywords">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> alleged Saturday that the CPI(M) in <keyword id="19896018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kerala" source="keywords">Kerala</keyword> was holding proceeds of <keyword id="19899231" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="money-laundering" source="keywords">money laundering</keyword>, as it attached a land parcel and <keyword id="20202062" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-deposits" source="keywords">bank deposits</keyword> worth Rs 73 lakh of the political party in a <keyword id="19913348" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="probe" source="keywords">probe</keyword> linked to the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank "scam". Assets worth Rs 28.65 crore of various individuals and entities linked to the case have also been attached by the federal agency after a provisional order under the <keyword id="19912399" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prevention-of-money-laundering-act" source="keywords">Prevention of Money Laundering Act</keyword> (PMLA) was issued. Official sources said the party may be nam<keyword id="19956083" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ED" source="keywords">ed</keyword> as an accused in the next supplementary chargesheet to be filed in this case. If so, it will be the second political party to be arraigned as accused in a money laundering investigation after the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP has recently been named by the ED in the Delhi excise policy case. The CPI(M) vehemently denied the charges of wrongdoing and money laundering. The attached assets include 18 immovable properties, valued at Rs 28.65 crore, consisting of lands and buildings in Kerala of the beneficiaries of the "scam", including an immovable property worth Rs 10 lakh registered in the name of a district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for a party office, the ED said in a statement. The attachment also includes eight movable properties, including a credit balance of Rs 63.62 lakh in eight "undisclosed" bank accounts of the CPI(M) local area committees in Thrissur, it added. The agency claimed that the CPI(M) received these funds from the beneficiaries as donations through the governing body and the party is "in possession of proceeds of crime" which has been invested in the purchase of immovable properties and credited to its five bank accounts in the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank Ltd. The bank is promoted by the party. The CPI(M) rejected the ED charges, saying it would legally and politically fight any move by the agency to arraign it in the case linked to the alleged multi-crore Karuvannur bank scam. Party state secretary M V Govindan alleged that the ED was trying to make opposition parties and their leaders accused in various cases due to political reasons. He also accused the central agency of attempting to create a smokescreen as it had failed to collect any evidence against the party. The ED believes that the land parcel attached by it was meant for the CPI(M) party office and was purchased using alleged kickbacks from the loanees or beneficiaries of the loans sanctioned by the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank. The agency has relied on the "confessional" statements of at least two accused in this case who claimed in their statements recorded before a judicial magistrate that the purported irregularities in the bank were orchestrated at the behest of CPI(M) Thrissur district committee leaders. The ED alleged that "bogus loans" were sanctioned by the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank on the same property multiple times without the knowledge of members of the society. "Investigation found benami loans were sanctioned to non-members against inflated property valuations in the names of other members and such loan funds were siphoned off and laundered by the accused beneficiaries," it said, adding that the loan amounts were disbursed in cash to avoid a money trail. "Such benami and illegal loans were sanctioned at the behest of the secretary and the governing body of the society in connivance with the then-bank manager, at the behest of the Thrissur district committee, CPI(M). "In return, the Thrissur district committee, CPI(M), collected money in the form of donations and salary cut from the beneficiaries and society committee members into their undisclosed and illegally opened bank accounts in the same society," the agency said. These funds, according to the ED, were utilised for the purchase of land worth Rs 10 lakh by the secretary of the Thrissur district committee of the CPI(M) for the construction of the party office, which has now been attached as proceeds of crime. Govindan said it has been a decades-long practice of registering the office and other assets of party units in the name of the respective district committees. What role does the party have in the office constructed by one of its local committees, he asked. But the ED is now trying to tarnish the image of the CPI(M) in the name of the assets of one such party unit, Govindan claimed. "We will fight it legally and politically. We haven't got any notice in this regard so far," he told reporters. The ED filed a chargesheet in this case against 55 accused entities in November last year. The money laundering case stems from 16 FIRs registered by the <keyword id="20086884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kerala-police" source="keywords">Kerala Police</keyword> (<keyword id="20146853" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crime-branch" source="keywords">Crime Branch</keyword>) in Thrissur in 2010. Why is Mahadev betting app back in news? What is the accusation against CM Baghel? The BJP has accused the state chief minister of being in the know about the scam. The BJP's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya has further claimed that the betting app ran under the patronage of "Bhupesh Baghel's police", adding that several police officers also "collaborated" in the scam. The Enforcement Directorate said a person, identified as Asim Das, was sent from the UAE to deliver a large amount of cash for the election expenses of the ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh. "The agency is investigating why Vivo India declared profit as expenditure in its balance sheet and transferred substantial sums of money to China," an official familiar with the matter told Business Today. The above report has revealed that the company’s total turnover during the period was around ₹1.25 lakh crore. This shows it transferred nearly half of its turnover to its Chinese parent, if the reported numbers are correct. The money laundering case against Vivo was filed by ED after taking cognizance of a FIR filed by the Economic Offenses Wing of the Delhi Police against a Vivo distributor based in Jammu and Kashmir. The FIR alleged that Chinese shareholders of the company had forged their identity documents. According to the above report, ED suspects that the identity was forged to launder money using shell companies and “proceeds of the crime” have been sent to China and other businesses to bypass Indian rules. Vivo reportedly transferred nearly $8 billion to its parent company in China

They said the agency has accused Kapoor of receiving money from the promoters of the app for promoting their product in the virtual (online) space. The ED has asked Kapoor to appear at the agency's Raipur office on October 6, they said. Despite several attempts to contact the actor, there was no response from him. Around 14-15 other celebrities and actors are under the ED's scanner in the case and they will also be summoned soon, sources said. The company promoted by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal was being operated from Dubai. It was allegedly using the online book betting application to enrol new users, create IDs and launder money through a layered web of benami bank accounts, the agency has alleged. The ED investigation has shown that the <keyword id="18794103" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mahadev-online-book-app" source="Orion">Mahadev Online Book App</keyword> is run from a central head office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), officials said. It operates by franchising "Panel/Branches" to their known associates on a 70-30 profit ratio, the agency had said. Large-scale hawala operations are done to siphon off the proceeds of betting to offshore accounts, it had said. A huge expenditure in cash has also been incurred in India for advertising of betting websites to attract new users and franchise (panel) seekers, it had said. The company promoters hail from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh and the Mahadev online book betting application is an umbrella syndicate arranging online platforms for enabling illegal betting websites.

In January 2015, I enrolled in my first clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) in Manhattan for five weeks. By February, we were married in an intimate ceremony.The clinical trial at MSK stabilized my tumors for eight months. When I experienced tumor growth that eliminated me from the trial, I enrolled in my second trial in Denver. Amazon has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-empire-of-surveillance-leveraging-monopoly-power-tracking-purchases-2022-8">built its $1.3 trillion empire largely by tracking and evaluating</a> almost every aspect of a customer's life. From a new TV to a toilet-paper refill, Amazon knows what a customer wants and when they want it, and it's always ready to serve it to them.This <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/one-phrase-shows-amazons-data-obsession-2015-10">obsession with metrics and data</a>, however, does not appear to extend to certain parts of Amazon's workplace. Over the past few months, the company has aggressively pushed employees back to the office. In February, Amazon announced that employees would be required to come into the office three days a week and since then, the e-commerce giant has escalated its battle with remote employees: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-employees-outraged-new-email-warning-about-individual-office-attendance-2023-8">sending emails to employees</a> about their attendance, creating internal dashboards to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-forced-rto-tracking-employee-office-attendance-2023-9">display how many days a week each employee was coming into the office</a>, and telling managers in October that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-lets-managers-terminate-employees-return-to-office-2023-10">they could begin firing employees</a> who weren't meeting the return-to-office requirements.When <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-return-to-office-policy-petition-30000-staff-remote-work-2023-3">perturbed employees have pressed executives</a> for the reason behind the mandate, supposedly data-obsessed higher-ups have seemed to have no data to justify it. Asked in August about this, Mike Hopkins, a senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-executive-no-data-to-support-return-to-office-mandate-2023-8">offered a vague response</a>, saying that he had "no data either way" on whether mandating in-office work made people more productive but that executives believe Amazon's workers do their best work when they're together. It's reasonable to wonder why Amazon, a company that has data on hundreds of millions of people and their decisions, is struggling to come up with hard numbers to back up its dictatorial push back to the office. Perhaps the reason is that the data supporting Amazon and other companies' RTO policies is threadbare, relying mostly on a few studies that use sample sets of questionable usefulness to back up their claims that remote work is less productive. But the weakness of the evidence won't stop bosses from making these RTO mandates. They indicate a failure of imagination on the part of management and a refusal to do the work necessary to create a positive company culture.<h2>Evidence is as evidence does</h2>As the return-to-office battle has heated up in the past six months, there has been a marked increase in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employees-back-to-the-office-what-the-data-really-says-2023-9">declarations that remote work</a> is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/are-remote-jobs-more-productive-work-life-balance-return-office-2023-8">less productive</a>. But diving deeper into this evidence reveals flawed logic — and a media industry obsessed with proving bosses right.The study that has most often been used to argue for the necessity of in-office work is a July working paper from researchers at the <a href="https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w31515/w31515.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Bureau of Economic Research</a>, which randomly assigned data-entry workers at a company in India to work either from home or in the office for eight weeks. The researchers determined that remote workers were 18% less productive than their in-person counterparts. Journalists have consistently cited this study without, it seems, taking a moment to consider its findings. First and foremost, it's farcical to use the work of entry-level data workers in India — who were recruited specifically for the study — as a proxy for all employees in all industries around the world. Secondly, the measurement of their productivity was "net speed," or the number of correct entries they made in a minute. The "drop in productivity" is really about how fast people could put numbers into a sheet — but that's not what most people do at work. Other <a href="https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2023/06/28/the-working-from-home-delusion-fades" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlets cited a study</a> that examined the productivity of 10,000 workers at an <a href="https://bfi.uchicago.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/BFI_WP_2021-56.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Asian IT-services company</a>. The central claim seems to be tailor-made for RTO advocates: The researchers estimated a productivity shortfall of 8% to 19% when workers transitioned from working at the office to working from home. The study's authors found only a "slight decline in output" but acknowledged workers were stretching out their working hours at home; those things together showed up as a drop in productivity. Here too, there are issues. "Output" in this case refers to "performance against the semi-annual goal on a key performance metric," like lines of useful code written by a developer. The authors described these metrics as "objective" and tracked, but the actual composition of these metrics is still pretty vague and based on managers' interpretations of their value. Additionally, hours worked were logged by an employee-surveillance software — but these sorts of tools <a href="https://hbr.org/2022/06/monitoring-employees-makes-them-more-likely-to-break-rules" target="_blank" rel="noopener">come with plenty of problems</a> that should make anyone skeptical of their efficacy.You'll notice a lot of these studies focus on call centers (the Stanford researcher <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kqbngD8pemqxAkZmWCOQ32Yk6PXK9eVA/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nicholas Bloom cited two</a> in his roundup of productivity research), and that's likely because these are extremely controlled and heavily micromanaged environments — ones <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/11/01/1132931674/medicaid-and-medicare-hotline-workers-strike-over-pay-and-working-conditions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rife with labor abuse</a>. Crude measures of productivity might indeed slip when workers are able to get away from <a href="https://www.askamanager.org/2010/05/call-center-job-misery.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">horrible managers</a> or<a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/not-allowed-to-hang-up-the-harsh-reality-of-working-in-customer-service" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> torrents of abuse</a>, but "productivity" in these studies is always a rigid metric, like "calls answered," rather than something more meaningful, like whether a problem was fixed or whether the customer was happy. These studies are relatively useless when it comes to evaluating most companies' return-to-office strategies, but that's just fine for the managerial elite.As somebody who's been writing about this subject for years (and who's worked remotely since 2012), I've yet to read a single piece of research that convincingly backs up the assertion that we need to be in the office. And yet major media outlets have continued to feed bosses' narrative that we "do better work together." The existing studies <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/great-resignation-work-from-home-employees-better-boss-managers-ceo-2022-6">continually fail to evaluate real work</a>. Instead they prioritize speed, betraying the same corporate ignorance forcing people back to the office. These studies — and the RTO push — often betray an utter ignorance of the workplace and work itself, both its structure and its outputs. <h2>Just the vibes</h2>Despite the limited evidence against it, corporations are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/remote-work-from-home-return-to-office-americans-employment-wfh-2023-10">increasingly trying to kill remote work</a>. Corporate statements about these decisions never seem to justify the shift beyond platitudes about "togetherness" and vague references to "culture." Look deeper, though, and they reveal the rotten core of the mandates.Roblox, a company that derives its revenue from digital worlds, reversed its flexible work policy in October, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/roblox-staff-return-office-three-days-week-resign-severance-rto-2023-10">telling employees</a> that if they didn't work at least three days a week in the office they'd be laid off. The reason for the about-face? Based on its CEO David Baszucki's blog post announcing the move, it seems mostly about vibes."I personally hoped that for our culture and our type of work, it might be possible to imagine a heavily hybrid remote culture," he wrote. "But there was a pivotal moment for me when we had our first post-quarantine, in-person group gathering. Within 45 minutes I came away from three separate conversations with spontaneous to do's and ideas to put in motion, something that hadn't happened during the past few years of video meetings."Nike's four-days-a-week policy points to "<a href="https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2023/10/nike-says-employees-must-return-to-the-office-four-days-each-week.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the power and energy that comes from working together in person</a>." Geico said its return-to-office program was meant to "<a href="https://www.wptv.com/geico-confirms-significant-layoffs-pushes-for-return-to-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">foster a sense of community and connection</a>" — but offered little data to support the decision. The only numbers in the announcement appeared to be about layoffs: Geico said it was letting 2,000 people go to sustain "long-term profitability and growth," suggesting that while layoffs can be evaluated with data, in-person work can only be backed up with mood rings.These announcements are almost always issued by executives who probably won't be subjected to the same kinds of check-ins as the rank-and-file workers the mandates apply to. Nobody's asking Amazon's Andy Jassy or Geico's Todd Combs how many days they swiped into the office, and there's no chance Oracle, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-email-shows-oracle-forcing-employees-return-to-office-2023-3">which instituted a return-to-office policy in May</a>, would punish Safra Catz or Larry Ellison for spending too little time at their desk. This irony combined with vague justifications exposes the reality of the RTO push: Managers and executives make calls based on perception rather than hands-on experience or data. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ceo-replace-ai-job-employees-executives-save-money-salary-2023-9">The modern CEO has become a figurehead</a> reaping the rewards of a work process they don't meaningfully participate in, so they make their choices based on macroeconomic conditions, their own biases, or, evidently, a single 45-minute meeting that left them feeling good. Nowhere is this more obvious than at Meta, where workers are required to return three days a week. The only problem: Employees <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-rto-mess-return-to-office-remote-work-2023-9">can't find the space or the privacy</a> to actually do their work at the office. The issue is almost too on the nose. The honchos calling the shots at Meta, a company that has caused global discord through its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cambridge-analytica-a-guide-to-the-trump-linked-data-firm-that-harvested-50-million-facebook-profiles-2018-3">handling of people's data</a>, appear to be unaware of how people at the company do their jobs. More frustratingly, Meta's corporate guidelines say that anyone who has worked at the company for 18 months or more can apply to become a permanent remote worker — a nice idea, except for the fact that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-rto-mess-return-to-office-remote-work-2023-9">hundreds of people have applied and have yet to hear back</a>. <h2>Because I said so</h2>Creating and sustaining a positive, productive corporate culture takes work. It requires managers and executives who truly understand the product their employees are putting out — and what is required to create that product. That's what makes the move to kill off remote work so frustrating. It's not clear that the return-to-office move is about making workers more productive or building a better culture. Rather, it's becoming obvious that these mandates are mostly an attempt to reestablish a surveillance society that allows managers to skip over the tough task of building a company where people actually want to work.The RTO push is eyewash for investors to prove that drops in revenue and profitability aren't a result of poor managerial decisions but <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/eric-adams-work-from-home-pajamas-quote-nyc-mayor-office-2022-2">the result of lazy workers sitting at home in their pajamas</a>. In some ways, it's a genius move for executives — a way to establish control over workers during an unprecedented societal awareness of labor rights (thanks to the striking workers of the Writers Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, and the United Auto Workers) while also shifting the blame and consequences of poor stock performance onto those least responsible.I would perhaps have more sympathy if companies made even the lightest attempt to demonstrate the efficacy of office work through relevant data or definable productivity metrics, rather than vague references to hours worked or office attendance. But seeing this type of data is unlikely as corporations have mostly turned modern managers into hall monitors. And if, as some have suggested, the return-to-office push is <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/12/why-rto-mandates-are-layoffs-in-disguise-according-to-workplace-experts.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an attempt at a "soft layoff"</a> — instituting unreasonable policies to make people quit (or accept severance) — it's corporate cowardice. It's restructuring a company based on who's most willing to tolerate wrongheaded inconveniences, rejecting great workers who don't live close to an office, and galvanizing sycophants who are willing to uncritically cheer on every executive mandate. While executives may see a return-to-office push as a good thing, I believe these mandates will only weaken their organizations, driving a wedge between management and workers. Forcing in-person attendance without clear goals and reasoning is going to create an outright hostility toward higher-ups. This pointless and petty crusade does nothing to make organizations better, leaner, or more productive — all it does is temporarily help executives distract from larger organizational issues. Real management takes responsibility and makes thoughtful decisions based on what makes a company stronger. Mark Milley said there were discussions about retaliating against retired military officers who wrote critical op-eds about former President Donald Trump, according to testimony released by the January 6 committee.Milley has served since 2019 as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military adviser to the president, after being nominated by Trump. Navy Adm. The ED attached the assets of <keyword id="326507" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="joy-alukkas" source="Orion">Joy Alukkas</keyword> Verghese, Chairman of Joy Alukkas <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> Pvt Ltd. According to an official statement on Friday, the case pertains to a huge amount of cash transferred to <keyword id="6354539" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dubai" source="Orion">Dubai</keyword> from India through Hawala Channels which allegedly invested in <keyword id="16632550" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="joy-alukkas-jewellery-llc" source="Orion">Joy Alukkas Jewellery LLC</keyword>, Dubai. The attached assets include 33 immovable properties (value Rs 81.54 crore) consisting of land and residential building in Shobha City, Thrissur, 3 Bank accounts (value Rs 91.22 lakh), 3 Fixed Deposits (value Rs 5.58 crore) and Shares of Joy Alukkas India Pvt Ltd (value Rs 217.81 crore). ED had earlier conducted searches on February 22, 2023, at 5 premises of Joy Alukkas group including the office of Joy Alukkas India Pvt Ltd and the residential premises of the Director of the company. "The evidence was gathered during the search from their official documents, mail and staff which clearly proved active involvement of Mr Joy Alukkas in Hawala transactions. These amounts were subsequently invested in Joy Alukkas Jewellery LLC, Dubai," the statement said. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
