<keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> on Wednesday said that it delivered 1 crore shipments in the first five days of its <keyword id="2546729" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-Billion-Day-sale">Big Billion Day sale</keyword> which is a massive 10 times growth compared to the last BBD when only 10 lakh deliveries were made by the ecommerce marketplace in the same period. The platform witnessed 110 orders placements per second and the momentum was across mobiles, fashion, electronics, BGMH (books, general merchandise and home) and home furnishing categories. In a cheer for MSMEs, over 66.6 crore visits were recorded during the Big Billion Days, with over 52 per cent of these visits coming from tier III cities and beyond. Out of 1 crore deliveries, more than 3.5 million deliveries were done through Kirana partners in the first five days of TBBD, the company announced. "The revival in demand and resurgence of consumption is expected to remain even after TBBD, as we continue to uplift the entire ecosystem," said Nandita Sinha, Vice President - Customer Growth &amp; Engagement, Flipkart. This year, the Flipkart BBD saw 1.5 times the number of transacting sellers compared to last year, among whom, more than 35 per cent witnessed 3 times more sales in comparison to last year. The number of crorepati sellers went up 1.5 times and the number of lakhpati sellers saw a 1.7 times jump. In the mobile category, the platform recorded two times growth in customers. The premium segment of smartphones saw a growth of 3.2 times, predominantly driven by Apple, Google and Samsung phones. The tier III customers drove the sale of large appliances with nearly 50 per cent demand coming from the region for this category, the company said.

This year’s Diwali sales grew by 50% over last year. And, it has another edition coming up. The e-commerce player has had two Snap Diwali sales, and the third edition will be held from October 18-20. Its first time users grew by 2.3 times year-on-year. As has been the case with all others, Snapdeal too saw 90% of its orders coming from non-metro cities. For Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale too, the number of transacting customers from Tier 2 cities and beyond, doubled from last year. Meanwhile, Amazon saw 91% of its new customers coming from these towns. Amazon also registered most of its sales in the first 24 hours, from these cities. Interestingly, Snapdeal also noticed a saw a trend where users from metro cities placed Diwali gift orders for Diwali gifts for their loved ones staying in Tier II and Tier III cities. According to Snapdeal, “the trend of users buying gifts on Snapdeal and sending it to their families back home is something that started last year and has grown sharply this year. The volume of such gifts has already tripled this year and we expect more such orders over the next few days.” While clothing constituted for 60% of the gifting items, 20% of gifts were home use products.

"This is up from 10.8% in 2015."Everyone from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/macys-closing-100-stores-2016-8">Macy's</a> to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nordstrom-2q-2016-earnings-2016-8">Nordstrom</a> to even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/target-earnings-q2-2016-2016-8">Target</a> reported year-over-year sales decreases in the last quarter (albeit less of a decline than many analysts expected) so it appears the shift is showing up for individual companies.Additionally, noted Baker, roughly 40% of the growth in total retail sales this year has come from e-commerce, which means online retail is only going to take a bigger and bigger piece of the pie going forward."On a dollar basis, e-commerce was up $24b in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year," wrote Baker. "That compares to $65b in total retail sales growth. In other words, e-commerce accounted for more than 1/3rd of all retail growth in the first half of last year."The big winner in all of this, said Baker, appears to be Amazon which not only is the fastest growing online retailer but accounted for 10% of the total retail sales growth - on and offline - over the first six months of the year."This continues to highlight the importance that e-commerce continues to play in any retailer's strategy, particularly with regard to how a retailer will deal with the Amazon threat," concluded Baker.So ecommerce continues to grab market share, Amazon continues to own the ecommerce space, and brick-and-mortar retailers are still posting sales declines. India's very own payment system <keyword id="597447" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rupay">RuPay</keyword> will launch Credit cards from next year. 
 
"Issuance of the card is expected to give Visa and MasterCard a tough competition, since the debit card issued by RuPay by banks in India has revealed that there is a huge potential for cards penetration and transaction," NCPI Chairman M Balachandran told reporters today. 
 Almost 13% of <keyword id="48577" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ATM">ATM</keyword> , <keyword id="443296" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Point-of-Sale">Point of Sale</keyword> and <keyword id="2903551" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ecommerce-transactions">Ecommerce transactions</keyword> are through RuPay cards he said. The number of transactions is growing at a generous 1-2% month on month he added.
