According to their report, the GDP growth is likely to be at 6.8 per cent, based on an unchanged base, but could potentially hit 7 per cent due to expected downward revisions in the estimates for Q3 FY23. As per a report by <keyword id="20407500" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="soumya-kanti-ghosh" source="keywords">Soumya Kanti Ghosh</keyword>, Group Chief Economic Adviser, SBI, the global economic landscape, as outlined in the report, presents a mixed picture with several significant developments impacting the trajectory. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has upgraded its global growth forecast to 3.1 per cent in 2024 and 3.2 per cent in 2025, indicating a brighter outlook. However, challenges persist, with countries like the UK and Japan slipping into recession, alongside concerns over the German economy. Additionally, China's marked slowdown, driven by deflationary concerns and declining industrial profits, adds further complexity to the global scenario. In contrast, India's domestic economic indicators show signs of resilience and optimism. Consumer confidence has strengthened, supported by positive sentiments regarding the economic situation and employment conditions. Various enterprise surveys also reflect strong business optimism. The Composite Leading Indicator (CLI) Index, comprising 41 leading indicators across sectors, suggests a slight moderation in economic activity in Q3 FY24. Based on this data, the SBI Economic Research Department estimates GDP growth in the range of 6.7-6.9 per cent, with a Gross Value Added (GVA) growth of 6.6 per cent. Corporate India continues to exhibit robust performance, driven by accelerating consumption patterns across urban and rural areas. Corporate results for Q3FY24 indicate significant growth in <keyword id="20140796" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ebidta" source="keywords">EBIDTA</keyword> and PAT (Profit After Tax), with a notable improvement in margins. Corporate GVA, measured by EBIDTA plus employee expenses, recorded strong growth compared to the previous year. The agricultural sector, however, faces some challenges, with a decline in the estimated production of major Kharif crops for 2023-24 compared to FY23. While the sowing season for Rabi crops suggests a slight increase in overall acreage, concerns arise over the decline in the sown area under cereals. Despite these challenges, the inland fish production has shown rapid growth, reaching 131.13 lakh tonnes in 2022-23. The fisheries sector's contribution to the national GVA and agricultural GVA indicates potential support for the Agri &amp; Allied sector's growth in FY24. (ANI)

Including public sector enterprises, BSE500’s wage inflation slowed to 11%. In the same quarter last year, it was at 20%, says a report by <keyword id="20055355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nuvama-institutional-equities" source="keywords">Nuvama Institutional Equities</keyword>. “The worrying aspect of wage bill growth is the sharper moderation in private sector wage bill growth. Private sector wage bill growth has moderated to 9% YoY—a decadal-low (ex-Covid). Such a sharp slowdown, if it persists, could weigh on consumption, particularly the premium segment,” says <keyword id="19895773" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nuvama" source="keywords">Nuvama</keyword>’s Q3FY24 Earnings Review. Unsurprisingly, the IT sector saw the most moderation, as its wage bill growth in Q3 at just 3% year on year. In the corresponding quarter last year, it was at 22%. “For IT companies, headcount is now contracting year on year. While this could bottom out, sustained recovery is needed for its revival,” said Nuvama. As per Xpheno, the top eight IT services firms in India<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/careers/news/it-bellwethers-slash-headcount-in-fy24-but-indian-techies-find-a-home-with-gccs/articleshow/107679515.cms"> reduced their headcount by</a> 75,000 in the last one year. Sectors like FMCG, metals &amp; mining, power, cement, pharma, chemicals saw single digit wage growth. “Wage bill growth is moderating in most other spaces as well. For most sectors, wage bill growth is below the levels seen a year ago,” said Nuvama. On the other hand, sectors like auto, consumer services, durables and real estate sector saw double digit wage bill growth in the quarter. BFSI sector remains an outlier The only sector which saw strong wage bill growth in Q3 is banking, financial services and insurance sector; which came in at 22%. The average annual attrition in the sector is still high, at around 30-35%. In private banks, it’s <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/business/companies/rbi-closely-watching-high-attrition-at-some-private-banks-says-shaktikanta-das-18207931.htm">much more pronounced</a> at 40-45%. While private sector banks saw their wage bill go up by 23%, in PSU banks, the growth was at 20%. Financial services, however, saw its wage bill go up by 29%. 6-7%, similar to what was seen in the first half of FY24. The earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortization (EBIDTA) growth on other hand, dwindled to 10% from 20% seen in the first half. “This is mainly due to fading input price tailwinds and operating de-leverage. PAT growth, however, held up in high teens. All in all, chinks are developing in profit momentum with EBITDA slowing sharply as margin tailwinds fade while demand fails to recover,” Nuvama said. Even as the aggregate profit growth held up to 16% YoY in Q3, a weak revenue growth does not spell good news for corporate employees who are hoping for a chunky wage hike. “Given a weak top line, wage bill growth is likely to remain subdued going ahead as well, potentially weighing on urban consumption,” says Nuvama.

India Inc’s wage bill growth halves in Q3, close to decadal lows

New Delhi, Co-working major <keyword id="4052133" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wework-India" source="Orion">WeWork India</keyword>'s revenue grew by 40 per cent to Rs 400 crore during the first quarter of this fiscal year on rising demand for flexible workspace across major cities from corporates, its CEO Karan Virwani said. The company, which is owned by real estate firm Embassy Group and <keyword id="2918346" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wework" source="Orion">WeWork</keyword> Global, has started its 50th centre at Saket in South Delhi, marking its entry into the national capital market. The new centre, comprising 54,000 square feet area and around 700 desks, is located in a commercial building developed by realty firm Eldeco. In an interview with PTI, Virwani said the company has completed six years since it opened the first centre in India and now it has 50 centres and around 90,000 desks across seven cities. "It has been a great journey of growing both the co-working/flexible workspace segment and WeWork India as a brand. In the last three years, since COVID, the adoption of flex space growing significantly," he said. The demand is increasing as more and more employees are coming back to offices, Virwani said, adding that the country's economic growth is also supporting demand. "In 2021-22, we close the financial year with around Rs 800 crore of revenue and we were negative Rs 50 crore EBIDTA (Earning Before Interest, Depreciation, Tax and Amortisation). During the last fiscal, we achieved a turnover of around Rs 1,400 crore and Rs 250 crore of EBIDTA," Virwani said. The company was profitable at the post-tax level also during the last fiscal year, he said. Virwani hoped that the company would maintain growth during the current fiscal. In the first quarter of 2023-24, Virwani said the company has posted a revenue of Rs 400 crore, up 40 per cent from the year-ago period. The EBIDTA was about Rs 70 crore. "We are targeting 50 per cent growth in this full fiscal year," he added. On the operational front, Virwani said the average occupancy level at its centres is at around 80 per cent and the company would target to increase it further. He said that a lot of new demand is coming from the existing clients. "The past few years have clearly highlighted that the future of work is flexible, and India Inc is increasingly adopting flex working as a way of life". Asked about US-based WeWork Global's recent statement that "substantial doubt" exists about the company's ability to continue as a going concern, Virwani said WeWork India business will have no impact from the development globally. "We have always been a separate entity where the majority anyway is owned by Embassy Group. We have run and build the India business in an extremely healthy way. So, India business is fully isolated from what is happening globally," Virwani said. In WeWork India, Embassy Group holds a 73 per cent stake, while WeWork Global has a 27 per cent shareholding. Asked whether Embassy would consider WeWork Global stake in India business, he said, "I will always be a buyer of this company's equity if anyone is willing to sell it whether it's at a discount or even a slight premium. We see a long-term value to be much much higher than what it is today. So I am always going to be a buyer." Virwani described WeWork Global as a great partner who helped India business during the tough COVID period by making investments. WeWork Global, which is a leading provider of flexible workspace, had in June 2021 invested USD 100 million in WeWork India. WeWork India has 50 centres, covering 6.5 million square feet area across 7 cities -- New Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad.
