<p><span>The company only manufactured 1,000 bags, but it's planning to roll out more in 2014 due to the unexpected demand, Everlane spokeswoman Ling Luke told Business Insider.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The bags are part of Everlane's foray into luxury products, which it has branded "Everlane Black." The next addition to the "Black" collection will be a $250 cashmere stole from Scotland.</span></p>

<p>Take one look at Best Buy scrambling to hang on to market share and it's easy to see how eCommerce has been crushing brick-and-mortar <keyword id="6354851" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Retail">retail</keyword>'s business for a while now, especially in developed markets.</p>
<p>According to a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/morgan-stanley-ecommerce-disruption-2013-1">new report</a> from Morgan Stanley's internet and retail team:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Fulfillment execution is key to realizing eCommerce’s disruptive potential. By 2016, our AlphaWise survey and global eCommerce model suggest a nearly 50% increase in penetration of retail sales, to 9.3% (from 6.5% today), surpassing $1 trillion."</p>
<p>And the market is far from saturated.</p>

<p><br />Fulfillment execution will remain the key factor driving growth, said the report, followed by price, selection, convenience, distribution and cost structure.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;">1. How well eRetailers innovate when it comes to fulfillment</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">2. Investments that will give eRetailers the ability to lower their price points, which will lead to higher sales but at lower margins</p>

The E-Commerce Boom Is Just Beginning

<p>Revenue at the Chinese e-retailer surged 40% to $4.22 billion. But analysts were expecting $4.42 billion.</p>
<p>The stock is down by around 8% right now.</p>
<p>Earnings, excluding non-recurring items climbed to $0.81 per share, which was much higher $0.74.</p>

ALIBABA SALES MISS, SHARES ARE GETTING CRUSHED

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Spencer Platt/Getty images</span></p><p class="caption">Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon</p></div><p></p></div></div>Amazon laid off "dozens of engineers" in its Lab126 hardware unit, which makes consumer devices like the Kindle, Echo, and Fire tablet, the <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-curtails-development-of-consumer-devices-1440632203">Wall Street Journal is reporting</a>.</p><p>This news comes in the wake of the critical and commercial disaster that was the Amazon Fire Phone, an entry in the highly competitive smartphone market that turned into a huge black-eye for the e-retailer. </p><p>Lab126 employs about 3,000 people, so it's unlikely that the layoffs - reportedly the first in Lab126's 11-year history - will ultimately represent a significant portion of its headcount.</p><p>But it signals a shift in Amazon's thinking about consumer electronics, as the e-retailer tries to figure out the path ahead.</p><p>This year alone, Lab126 has introduced the $180 Amazon Echo digital assistant appliance and the Amazon Dash one-button ordering device. The Wall Street Journal's report indicates that Amazon is also planning a "high-end computer for the kitchen," kind of like an Echo for the culinary-minded.</p><p>Some of Amazon's devices, such as the Fire Tablet and the Kindle e-reader, have been successful. </p><p>But that lack of focus and "shifting<span>, and, at times, enigmatic priorities" has led to a ton of turnover at Lab126, per the report. Some engineers are concerned that the main focus of Amazon's hardware efforts are just to drive <keyword id="6354851" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Retail">retail</keyword> purchases from the site, while general morale has been low since the Fire Phone laid an egg so publicly.</span></p><p>Earlier in August, top Lab126 engineer <span>Jon McCormack left to take a job with Yahoo for undisclosed reasons after an on-again-off-again six-year employment with Amazon. </span></p><p><span>In short, it seems unlikely that Amazon is getting out of the hardware game entirely. Amazon is reportedly laying off employees in its Lab126 hardware division

<br /> The future of Indian merchandising and marketing business lies in promising start-ups in e-commerce and e-retail space and their innovative ideas, <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> Chairman Emeritus <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> said today. <br /><br /> "For the last three years, I have been a free person (by not in command of the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>). If I look at the landscape, I see the future in young managers, the young start-ups. It is what I saw in United States in the 70s and 80s," he said. <br /><br />

	"The ability to think out of the box has made the United States change its appearance from smoke-stacked companies to innovative companies that we see around us today such as Apple, Facebook, etc," Tata said. 
<br /><br />

	He said this while interacting with the students of Great Lakes Institute of Management at its 11th convocation here. 
<br /><br /> In the past few months, Tata has invested in close to 10 companies, mostly in the e-commerce space, including Snapdeal and Chinese handset maker <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword>. <br /><br />

	Elaborating on his interest on investing in start-ups, Tata said: "This is an opportunity to encourage and support young start-ups which are in new space such as e-commerce and e-retail, which in my view is going to change the face of Indian merchandising and marketing business.
<br /><br />

	"So, in a small token way, because I am not a very wealthy person I have invested myself in some 10 companies hoping that some of them will succeed. I think ecommerce companies have great potential."

	On his latest investment in Coimbatore based start-up firm Ampere Vehicles, he said, "I invested there because I was impressed by the management which had hands on experience.
<br /><br /> "It (electric vehicle space) is an area that is left untouched. It (the company) deserved little bit of support. I never met her (Ampere Vehicles CEO <keyword id="2951766" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hemalatha-Annamalai">Hemalatha Annamalai</keyword>) before. Never knew the company before. But when she asked for help, I decided to invest", he said. <br /><br />

	To a query, Tata said most investments made by him in about 10 start-up companies were in "e-commerce" space and added that the "health" sector was looking more "promising".

<ul><li>Retail giant <keyword id="80487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="walmart">Walmart</keyword> has to pay a $282 million for a bribery investigation which involves its business in India, Brazil, China and Mexico. </li><li>Walmart had acquired Indian e-retail unicorn Flipkart in 2018. </li><li>Meanwhile, Uber, too, in its IPO had mentioned that it was being investigated for bribery in several countries including India.</li><li><keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> too had paid a $28 million fine for bribing Indian officials </li></ul>Walmart has gotten into trouble in the US for its business in India. The retail giant has to pay a $282 million fine in the US for a bribery investigation case for Walmart’s business in India, Brazil, China and Mexico. <br /><br />The case relates to Walmart’s businesses in these countries before 2011. <br /><br />“We’re pleased to resolve this matter,” said Walmart President and CEO, Doug McMillon. “Walmart is committed to doing business the right way, and that means acting ethically everywhere we operate. We’ve enhanced our policies, procedures and systems and invested tremendous resources globally into ethics and compliance, and now have a strong Global Anti-Corruption Compliance Program. We want to be the most trusted retailer, and a key to this is maintaining our culture of integrity.”<br /><br />The company’s statement also says that as part of its deal with the <keyword id="118911" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-Department-of-Justice">US Department of Justice</keyword> (DOJ), Walmart has also signed a Non-Prosecution Agreement with them which means the DOJ will not prosecute the company in the next 3 years if it complies with the rules.<br /><br />The US-based retail giant had first announced its India entry with its offline signature retail outlets in 2007. <br /> Union Commerce and Industries Minister <keyword id="129243" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> has said that there would not be any inquiry into complaints of predatory pricing and unfair trade practices against e-commerce giant <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>.<br />

"I would like to state that no enquiry has been planned or proposed on the e-retailer on the concerns raised by customers on the big billion day sale," the minister said.<br />
               <br />
She had earlier said that the government would look into these complaints. "We have received many inputs. Lot of concerns have been expressed. We will look into it," she had said.<br />
<br />
Taking a U-turn, she said that her earlier remarks were misinterpreted. "My earlier three sentence remarks were interpreted in three million ways on the Flipkart issue," she said.<br />

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Alibaba's two shopping platforms, Tmall and Taobao Marketplace, were expecting sales of at least $4.9 billion during the 24-hour online shopping blitz, which is held on Nov. 11 every year. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Last year, sales for Alibaba totaled $3.1 billion.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">By comparison, U.S. consumers spent $1.5 billion on "<keyword id="1461657" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cyber-Monday">Cyber Monday</keyword>" last year.</span></p>

Chinese Consumers Spent A Record $5.7 Billion On Singles' Day

Chinese E-Retailer JD.com Surges 15% On First Day Of Trading

<br /> Advertising industry regulator ASCI has upheld brands such as <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, Vodafone, L'Oreal, Fortis Healthcare and Pernod Ricard. The ASCI upheld complaints against 82 ad campaigns in June misleading ads.<br />
	 
The Advertising Standard Council of India got maximum misleading ads from the personal and healthcare category, followed by education category with 22 ads. <br />

In etailer Flipkart’s case, the watchdog found that the ecommerce giant claimed that the MRP of a product was higher than the actual printed MRP and that it was offering it on discounted price. <br />

"The website communication claims the MRP of the product as Rs 999, when actual printed MRP on product is Rs 449 which is being offered as the discounted price. This distorts facts and is therefore misleading the consumers as to actual discount being offered," CCC said.<br />

Apart from Flipkart, the regulator also pulled Uber and Jasper Infotech, the holding company of e-retailing firm Snapdeal, for violating its code. <br />
