More than 20 years after its broadcast, Ramanand Sagar's epic mythological series "<keyword id="951735" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Krishna">Shri Krishna</keyword>" is all set to make a comeback on <keyword id="6408304" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>, the broadcaster announced on Sunday. The show joins other popular epics such as "Ramayan" and "Mahabharat" to be re-run amid the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Coming soon: 'Shri Krishna'," the post on DD National channel's official handle read. Created, written and directed by Sagar, the series chronicled the life of <keyword id="3198" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lord-Krishna">Lord Krishna</keyword>. The show was first broadcast on Doordarshan's Metro Channel (DD 2) from 1993, but moved to DD National in 1996. "Shri Krishna" starred actor Sarvadaman D Banerjee as the adult Krishna, while Swwapnil Joshi played the teenage version of the character. The show also starred Deepak Deulkar, Pinky Parikh among others. The re-telecast of three-decades-old mythological series Ramayan made DD national the most-watched channel. Its viewership grew 22% within a week (April 4-10), according to rating agency BARC. Apart from Ramayan, Doordarshan brought back its Golden Era shows back on TV — Shaktimaan, Mahabharat, and Byomkesh Bakshi. In fact, DD channels received the highest viewership across genre with 1.9 billion impressions in week 4th and 10th April, said the CARE Rating report. The report also states that the ad revenue in the previous quarter, that is, the quarter ending on June 30, 2020 in respect of 366 private FM Radio stations was Rs 98.41 crore. (One FM Radio Broadcaster, M/s Gwalior Firm Private Limited, operating in the city of Guwahati, has not submitted the advertisement revenue). The report further stated that Pay DTH has attained total active subscriber base of around 70.70 million. This is in addition to the subscribers of the DD Free Dish (free DTH services of <keyword id="6408304" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>). The total active subscriber base has increased from 70.58 million in June 2020 to 70.70 million in September 2020. The country has also achieved 100% digitization of <keyword id="6395218" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cable-TV">Cable TV</keyword> network, the report noted. “This is a stupendous achievement making India as the only large country where 100% digital cable has been achieved through mandatory regulations,” added TRAI.

As hashtags like #BoycottAdipurush and #BanAdipurush gained speed, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday warned the makers of the film of legal action if scenes showing Hindu religious figures in the "wrong" way were not removed. "I have seen the teaser of 'Adipurush'. There are objectionable scenes in it," Mishra, who is also the spokesperson of the state government, told reporters in Bhopal. The dresses and look of Hindu deities as seen in the trailer were not acceptable, he said. "Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity's costume is different... These are scenes that hurt religious sentiments. I am writing a letter to Om Raut to remove all such scenes from the film. If not removed, we will consider legal action," Mishra said. Echoing the minister's sentiments, a Twitter user wrote, "Ram and lakshamna wore khadau not leather shoes like the desert civilization people did. Nonsense movie." Director Raut said he is "disheartened" by the reaction to the teaser. "I was disheartened but not surprised because the film is made for a larger medium. You can cut it down to some extent, but can't bring it down to a mobile phone, that's an environment I can't control. "If given a choice, I had never put it on YouTube but that's the need of the hour. We need to put it there so that it reaches a wide audience," Raut told reporters at the media preview of film's 3D trailer on Tuesday. Producer Bhushan Kumar was unavailable for comment despite several attempts by PTI to reach out to him. Many on social media said they were appalled over Saif's appearance as a maniacal Lankesh, saying his look was inspired by Mughal rulers. Some said it bore resemblance to Ranveer Singh's portrayal of Alauddin <keyword id="987836" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="khilji" source="Orion">Khilji</keyword> from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film "Padmaavat", which came under attack for caricaturing Khilji, complete with kohl lined eyes and viciously attack a hunk of meat. "The makers should have done more research on Ravana. Saif Ali Khan's expressions look absolutely pathetic. Ravana was not a psycho. Saif is acting like he is portraying khilji from padmavat. "#Adipurush had the golden chance to present us a film on the subject which is dear to everyone but sadly even with the colossal budget and modern technology it couldn't match even 1% of yugo sako's Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama," wrote a Twitter user. This is not the first time Saif has been in trouble for "Adipurush". In an interview to a newspaper in 2020, Saif had said the version of Raavan in "Adipurush" will be "humane". His remarks caused a stir in the not-so-virtual world of social media and the actor issued an apology for his comments, saying it was never his intention to hurt people's sentiments. "I've been made aware that one of my statements during an interview has caused a controversy and hurt people's sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement," the actor had then said in a statement. The show has set off social media discussion, too. The discussion over the past 24 hours or so has taken a gender-based turn with some viewers calling queen <keyword id="659626" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaikeyi">Kaikeyi</keyword> a b**ch and hurling abuses at her maid <keyword id="261938" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manthara">Manthara</keyword>. As the badmouthing continued, these two characters incidentally kept trending on Twitter. There has been a debate centred on the feminism quotient in the show, too. While some users felt "Ramayan" did not mete out fair treatment to its female characters, others felt the storyline champions women's empowerment. Hailing the storyline as an instance of women's empowerment, a viewer tweeted: "We were so progressive even 7000 yrs back, its amazing. <keyword id="6427654" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sita">Sita</keyword> was very intelligent &amp; warrior woman. However, not everyone feels that the story upholds "women's empowerment", and not everyone shared kind words for the antagonist Kaikeyi. A viewer opined: "Kaikeyi was a class A b**ch, wasn't she? Asking for her son to be crowned king was alright, but sending Ram to exile was evil at a whole new level. A social media user made an interesting observation saying "Ramayan" would have had a different perspective altogether if it was penned from the viewpoint of any of the female characters. The tweet reads: "Have you ever not wondered how the story would have unfolded in its own different indifferent manner if the pen was given to Kaikeyi or Manthara, to Urmila or Kaushalya, to Surpnakha or Mandodari?"
