At a time when a whopping 94% of respondents in India are open to exploring different roles in 2024, employers must look beyond competitive salaries and address broader aspects such as flexibility, <keyword id="20051946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="diversity" source="keywords">diversity</keyword>, <keyword id="20046237" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity" source="keywords">equity</keyword>, and inclusion (DE&amp;I), and positive workplace culture to effectively attract and retain top talent, the report said. "A successful recruitment strategy needs to go beyond merely offering competitive salaries. It should prioritise cultivating a robust company culture, providing flexibility, and addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&amp;I) initiatives to effectively attract and retain top talent," Ankit Agarwala, Managing Director of Michael Page India, said. The report titled "The Expectation Gap" covered responses from approximately 50,000 skilled white-collar professionals across 37 countries, including over 3,000 individuals from India. According to the report, India leads APAC in reporting <keyword id="19975932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="workplace-discrimination" source="keywords">workplace discrimination</keyword>, with 47% of employees reporting workplace discrimination, higher than the APAC average of 31%. However, 45% of the workforce still faces barriers in formally reporting such incidents. Globally, 28% of organisations report similar retention challenges, indicating a heightened pressure on Indian companies. To maintain high levels of job satisfaction among all age groups, organisations must understand and address the distinct priorities of each generation, from Baby Boomers to Gen Z, the report said. Among various sectors, 26% of Indian employers report <keyword id="22109727" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="recruitment-challenges" source="keywords">recruitment challenges</keyword>, while 25% face difficulties in retention. Meanwhile, 31% of organisations in the Indian healthcare sector experience recruitment challenges, and 30% struggle with retention. The fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector in India reports the highest retention issues, with 54% of companies indicating difficulties in keeping their talent. "The rise of e-commerce and shifting consumer preferences are prompting FMCG companies to adapt quickly, leading to high demand for professionals with expertise in digital marketing, supply chain management, and consumer insights," the report noted.

Flexibility, salary key jobseeker parameters for new roles in India: Report

Chennai, Tamil Nadu's ruling <keyword id="19897149" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dmk" source="keywords">DMK</keyword>, a key constituent of the INDIA bloc, in its manifesto released on Wednesday promised to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 if the opposition alliance wins the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls. Restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and holding polls there, scrapping the New Education Policy 2020, slashing fuel prices, annulling Article 361 of the Constitution that provides protection to governors from legal action and appointment of Governors following consultation with Chief Ministers, were among the key promises made by the DMK. The recommendations of the M S Swaminathan committee will be adopted to ensure that MSP for agricultural products "is set at total production cost plus 50 per cent," the DMK said. Also, it announced that if voted to power, the INDIA bloc will withdraw the Agnipath scheme and reintroduce "permanent recruitment service" in the Indian Armed forces. "From now on, population census, including caste-wise census and census concerning people below the poverty line, will be conducted by the Union government once every five years simultaneously." The DMK will firmly insist on the removal of Article 356, which allows the dismissal of duly elected state governments and imposition of President's rule. The Congress party's ally in Tamil Nadu said that "new constraints" on States' borrowing capacity, imposed by the union government beyond the limits in each state's FRBM-equivalent Act will be eliminated. "A recommendation to share cess revenues with states will be made. It will be proposed that the Finance Commission increase the horizontal devolution of tax revenue (to all States together) from 42 per cent to 50 per cent." The Union government's financial contributions to states will be based on the income tax and GST collected in those states. Thus, financial contributions will be assured based on the taxes collected within each state. The finance provided to states will be permanently determined based on the 1971 population. A 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies will be implemented immediately. "DMK will insist that the Union government enact a law providing menstrual leave to women, emphasizing the journey towards gender equality." Petrol and diesel prices "will be set at Rs 75, Rs 65 (per litre)" and cooking gas cylinders shall be made available at Rs 500 (per cylinder). "The introduction of the Uniform Civil Code will be strictly prevented" to preserve India's secular nature as stated in the Constitution's preamble. "The 2019 CAA law will be repealed, and all minorities will be treated equally without any discrimination. The recommendations of the Sachar Committee for the improvement of the lives of Muslims and other minority communities will be implemented." Facilitation will be provided for <keyword id="21027983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sri-lankan-tamil" source="keywords">Sri Lankan Tamil</keyword> refugees to get Indian citizenship. Assistance will be provided to those who wish to return to Sri Lanka. Also, the manifesto said efforts will be made to implement reservation for minorities at the all-India level, similar to Tamil Nadu. "The financial assistance previously provided to minority educational institutions has now been stopped. Action will be taken to resume this assistance." For "political" reasons, funding from foreign countries to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) has currently been stopped. "The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act will be properly amended, and measures will be taken to ensure these financial aids continue to reach NGOs without any problems." The proposal of 'One Nation, One Election' will be abandoned, and for the allocation of Lok Sabha seats to states, the current practice, based on the 1971 census will continue. All "people-unfriendly" laws introduced by the BJP government over the last 10 years will be reviewed immediately by the INDIA alliance government. The "labour-hostile laws" introduced by the BJP government will be "reformed." Through the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), the Union government will ensure a minimum pension of Rs 5,000 per month. The number of working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act will be increased from 100 to 150 days. "A wage of Rs 400 will be provided across states/ union territories nationwide." Disbanding the current NITI Aayog, set up by the BJP regime and establishing again the Planning Commission to draft plans based on the requests of state governments is another assurance the DMK has made. "Measures will be taken to reclaim Kachchatheevu to ensure India's security and to protect the welfare of the fishermen." A mandatory "cooling-off period" of 2 years will be introduced for retired judges and secretaries before they could join private companies or political parties, the manifesto said. Waiving loans and interests for farmers in nationalised and scheduled banks, waiver of educational loans for students, monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 for all women in every state and formation of <keyword id="21027984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-development-council" source="keywords">State Development Council</keyword> by including Chief Ministers were among the promises made by the DMK. Exemption for Tamil Nadu from the NEET exam and complete removal of toll booths on national highways, forms part of poll promises of the Dravidian party. Further, the DMK said amendments will be made to relevant laws to ensure that state governments, elected by the people, appoint Vice-Chancellors to state-run universities, rather than Governors. Stopping government's divestment from public sector enterprises, implementing the Sethusamudram project, law to ban online gambling, setting up a <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="keywords">Supreme Court</keyword> branch in Chennai, providing statehood for <keyword id="19901639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="puducherry" source="keywords">Puducherry</keyword>, equal funding for all state languages including Tamil, were among the host of other promises made by the DMK. Establishment of Tamil departments in varsities and stopping construction of <keyword id="19950851" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mekedatu" source="keywords">Mekedatu</keyword> dam were also promised by the DMK. "The <keyword id="19996334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vishwakarma-scheme" source="keywords">Vishwakarma Scheme</keyword>, introduced by the BJP government to encourage caste-based occupations, will be restructured on the basis of social justice."

While some say this type of policy is a welcome relief, others are worried about how they'll be viewed by their employers and peers if they take it.Gabriela Siemienkowicz, GOG's culture and communication manager, <a href="https://www.axios.com/menstrual-leave-gog-06902bc2-c1b8-4dbf-98e7-34f60708d66a.html">told</a> Axios that the policy is "experimental in a sense that we plan to evaluate in what way those additional days off impact the well-being of our menstruating employees at the end of 2022, and consider expanding the policy in the upcoming year."For now, GOG employees can take off time as needed "whenever period pains occur," according to Siemienkowicz. The company estimates that will amount to a day off per quarter. Menstrual leave isn't novel, but it has been scarce in recent history. Researcher Melanie Ilic in a 1994 article in the journal Europe-Asia Studies <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/152770">credits</a> the idea of menstrual leave to Soviet Russia in the 1920s and 30s, when menstruating women were <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/152770">released</a> from work to ensure their reproductive health and boost employment. The policy was also popular with Japanese labor unions during the same period, and became <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/mar/04/period-policy-asia-menstrual-leave-japan-women-work">national law</a> in 1947. But people who menstruate in Japan <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/20/business/period-leave-asia-intl-hnk-dst/index.html#:~:text=Widely%20available%2C%20but%20rarely%20used,while%20struggling%20with%20menstrual%20pain.">rarely use</a> such policies, even with seven decades of access. That sentiment might occur in other countries as companies begin to adopt the policies. After all, many American workers are already <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/reader-center/sick-day-employment-policy-united-states-em.html">unwilling</a> to take sick leave, even when they do have it. And despite sick and menstrual leave policies, countries like the United States and Japan have some of the <a href="https://data.oecd.org/earnwage/gender-wage-gap.htm">widest gender pay gaps</a> in the world, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Siemienkowicz told Axios that by implementing such a policy at GOG, the company was acknowledging that employees had been suffering through something privately. For many, period pains are <a href="https://www.insider.com/are-period-cramps-more-painful-than-heart-attack-2018-3">as painful</a> as heart attacks. "It fosters inclusiveness by accepting that there are biological differences in the workplace," she said, saying that it helps to break down taboos around periods. "By giving such additional days off, we acknowledge these symptoms are real."One 2017 <a href="https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/bmjopen/9/6/e026186.full.pdf">survey</a> of 32,748 women in the Netherlands found that 14% of respondents had taken time off work or school during their periods. Others said that they had shown up to work but had difficulty working while experiencing symptoms. The researchers estimated that each woman lost nearly nine days of productivity per year. Although menstrual leave policies have been met with backlash and derision in countries such as the <a href="https://time.com/4245067/period-leave/">United Kingdom</a> and <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/05/should-women-get-paid-menstrual-leave-days/370789/">Indonesia</a>, companies like GOG and the food delivery company Zomato in India hope that their ones will change how people think about periods. In our country, whenever anybody indulges in discrimination in the name of caste, it damages humanity. "If someone instigates (others) in the name of caste, it also damages humanity. Hence, brothers and sisters, today every Dalit and backward of the country has to keep in mind that 'INDI gathbandhan', which believes in instigating and making people fight in the name of caste, opposes the schemes meant for the welfare of the Dalits and 'vanchit' (deprived)," he said. The prime minister further said the truth is that these people indulge in politics of vested interest of the family in the name of welfare of castes. "You must be remembering that when construction of toilets was started, they ridiculed it. They also mocked the Jan Dhan accounts and also opposed Digital India. "Not only this, these 'parivar vaadi' (dynastic) parties have another identity - they do not want any Dalit or tribal person outside their families to move ahead. They cannot tolerate Dalits and tribal persons occupying high posts," Modi said. "You must be knowing that when Droupadi Murmu, the first woman tribal president, was contesting elections, then who all opposed her and which parties came together to defeat her. "It was all the 'parivar vaadi' parties, who see the Dalits, tribal people and backwards as their vote bank during the elections. We have to remain alert from these people and from such a mindset. We have to follow the positive education of Ravidas ji, while avoiding the negative mentality of casteism," he said. Showering praises on Sant Ravidas, Modi said, "Ravidas ji belongs to all and everybody belongs to Ravidas ji. He cannot be confined within the boundaries of caste, religion, sect and ideology. "Ravidas ji has been calling me repeatedly to his birthplace. I got an opportunity to take forward his pledge. I get an opportunity to serve his lakhs of followers. Serving the followers at the birthplace of the Guru is nothing less than a privilege for me," he said. Born in Varanasi, Ravidas was a mystic poet-saint of the Bhakti movement in the 15th and 16th centuries. Venerated as a spiritual teacher in several regions of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, he was a poet, social reformer and spiritual figure. Modi also said India is moving rapidly on the path of development by adopting the messages of Sant Ravidas. "On the pious occasion of the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, I welcome you all to his birthplace. You have come from far-off places on this occasion, especially my brothers and sisters from Punjab... Varanasi seems to have become a mini-Punjab," he said.
