East Delhi witnesses a stiff fight in 2019 Lok Sabha elections as the BJP has fielded Gautham Gambhir, the famous cricketer against AAP’s Atishi and Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely. Gautam Gambhir, the cricketer turned as a politician is trying his luck in East Delhi, which is the least developed region of the capital of India. At present, the sitting MP from this constituency is Maheish Girri of the BJP. Gautam Gambhir joined the BJP only recently in March 2019. He has been used by the BJP as a star campaigner and to speak for the party on News channels. Gautham Gambhir is new to politics and this is his first election. Since he is a Punjabi Arora by caste, he can get the BJP the support of his caste in the East Delhi seat. Also his appeal among the youth and women is an added advantage for the BJP. Atishi is one of the prospective candidates for the AAP since she is said to have accomplished a phenomenal work in the capital to promote public education. Bringing contestants like the former Bhojpuri actor, Manoj Tiwari, in North East Delhi, singer, Hans Raj Hans, in North West Delhi and former cricketer, Gautam Gambhir in East Delhi may have worked in the BJP’s favour with different exit polls predicting that the national party is set to take home at least five seats from Delhi. BJP relied on star power during the polls, Congress stuck to legacy politics and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s platform was based on their municipal successes. During the 2014 election, BJP’s victory was unanimous with the political party winning over all seven seats. Now, the party is taking the exit polls an indication of their majority, has already planning for the Delhi’s assembly elections scheduled to take place in 2020 with reports of Tiwari taking meeting with official from municipal boards in the city. Before the polls, traders in the city already opined that while AAP was good for the city, they would still like to see a national party in power to represent the Delhi’s interests in Parliament. Past electoral experiences show that the city’s voting pattern differs greatly when it comes to the national elections versus state elections.

The Election Commission shows BJP's star power working in its favour with former cricketer Gautam Gambhir leading in East Delhi, singer Hans Raj Hans emerging ahead in North West Delhi and Manoj Tiwari working his magic in North East Delhi. Even BJP's non-star candidates, Ramesh Bidhuri is leading in South Delhi with 27,641 votes and Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is racing head in West Delhi with 34,608 votes. These are initial leads and the final results will be shared by the Election Commission by the end of the day. While some surveys say that Congress might be able to win one seat out from under the BJP, others see a repeat of the Lok Sabha Election in 2014 with all the seats going to India’s saffron party. Delhi proudly houses the parliament, the ruling center from where the country’s legislatures are made. Over the past few elections, the statistics show that the voting preferences of the electors in the city and the results in these constituencies have been clearly reflecting the moods of the voters across the country. Hence the party that wins from the majority of constituencies in Delhi was only seen forming the government. During 2014 general elections for the parliament, the BJP won from all the seven seats in Delhi and eventually marched proudly to form the government. In 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had bagged all the seven seats and went to form the government. Looking deeper still, the West Delhi constituency has been striking the right chord over the past 11 parliamentary elections. North West Delhi has been selecting the candidate of the party that would form the government in 10 out of 11 Lok Sabha elections. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Pravesh Verma of BJP is fighting in West Delhi constituency against Mahabal Mishra of INC and Balbir Singh Jakhar of AAP. In the North West Delhi seat, Hansraj Hans of BJP is contesting with Rajesh Lilothia of Congress and Guggan Singh of AAP.

New Delhi, Nov 24 (PTI) Pending <keyword id="6402403" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="results">results</keyword> for various <keyword id="6398300" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Postgraduate">postgraduate</keyword> and <keyword id="6476913" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Undergraduate">undergraduate</keyword> courses will be declared by <keyword id="6360099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university">Delhi University</keyword> by November 30, the <keyword id="6355014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> was informed on Tuesday which observed that DU's "neck is on board" if it doesn't do that. The submission was made by the varsity in response to an application alleging that there was violation of the court's earlier order when DU had undertaken to declare all the results by October 31. A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad noted the submission made by the counsel for DU that the remaining results of postgraduate and undergraduate courses shall be declared by November 30. The bench deferred the order waiting for updated instructions of DU's counsel Mohinder Rupal. The bench also raised questions over filing of the application in a disposed petition. The high court had earlier disposed of two pleas by law student Prateek Sharma and National Federation of Blind seeking to set up effective mechanisms for visually impaired and specially-abled students so that educational instructions can be transmitted to them properly and teaching material is provided to them through online mode of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. The court questioned the maintainability of the application and asked petitioner Sharma as to why he has filed it in an already decided matter. Why did you file an application in a decided matter. Answer us on the maintainability first and not on merits... We have reservations in entertaining the application in a disposed of petition, the bench said. The petitioner, represented through advocate H S Hora, stated in the application that DU has violated the October 12 order where under the varsity itself had undertaken to adhere to the timeline for declaration of results of PG and UG courses and the last results had to be declared by October 31. On October 12, the high court had also directed the varsity to upload the mark sheets on its website and that no student should be asked to physically come for collecting them. The high court had earlier asked the Delhi University and its examiners to expedite the evaluation process of online open book examination (OBE) and declare the students' results preferably by the first week of October.

Congress, on the other hand, has its hopes pinned on <keyword id="39794" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sheila-Dixit">Sheila Dixit</keyword>, Delhi’s former Chief Minister who held her seat for 15 years. But data from the Election Commission shows that Dixit is way behind in the vote count with only 21.3% of the vote share versus Tiwari strong lead with 60.3% of the vote share. Even the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, Dilip Pandey, only has 14.1% of the vote share to his name. Tiwari is also feeling confident about his win stating that he will come out ahead with a margin of over 200,000 votes while speaking to <a href="https://www.news18.com/videos/india/could-win-by-a-margin-of-over-2-lakh-votes-manoj-tiwari-2156349.html">News18.</a> He also said that the BJP is poised to win nation-wide with a margin of over 350 seats. Dixit, on the other hand, maintains that she will be victorious overcoming the divisions in religion and caste in the constituency.
