<ul><li>The Indian wearable market has declined for the second consecutive quarter.</li><li>The smartwatch segment has recorded a huge decline in shipments in Q3 2024.</li><li>The earwear segment has also declined, while the smart ring segment remains strong.</li></ul>The <keyword id="22725790" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-wearables-market" source="keywords">Indian wearables market</keyword> has declined for the second consecutive quarter, recording a 20.7% year-on-year decline in shipments in Q3 2024. There was a 10% decline in shipments in Q2 2024. According to a report by the International Data Corporation, 38 million devices were shipped in the country’s wearables market in Q3 2024. The decline is being attributed to a reduction in new product launches and a cautious inventory strategy. <h2>Smartwatch shipments decline</h2>The smartwatch category recorded a decline of 44.8% as shipments declined from 16.92 million devices in Q3 2023 to 9.34 million in Q3 2024. Not just the basic smartwatches, the shipments of premium smartwatches also declined by 39.9% year-on-year. The Smartwatch average selling price (ASP) however increased by 1.4% from $25.8 to $26.2. The wristband category, which remained strong in Q2 has also declined in Q3, recording a 48.4% year-on-year decline in shipments. The earwear category also struggled, with a 7.5% decline in shipments from 30.29 million in Q3 2023 to 28.52 in Q3 2024. <h2>The smart ring category continues to shine</h2>The smart ring market has remained strong, with 92 thousand smart rings shipped in Q3 2024. The quarter also recorded a decline in the average selling price of 16.2% to $162.1. Ultrahuman continues to lead the smart ring category in India with a 36.8% market share, boAt comes in second with a 20.5% share and Pi Ring is third with a 16.3% market share. <h2>Smartwatch market As <keyword id="20360560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-car-sales" source="keywords">electric car sales</keyword> rose 2% in California, Tesla's sales in the state fell 3.5%, according to third-quarter <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cncda.org/news/california-new-car-dealers-association-releases-q3-2024-auto-outlook-report/">figures</a> from the California New Car Dealers Association. That's not an anomaly. It's the third straight quarter of Tesla sales declines in the largest EV market in the US. The losses don't upset Tesla's market dominance: the Elon Musk-led company still accounted for more than half of all EV sales in California for the quarter. Through September 30, Tesla's EV market share in California declined from 64% to 55% year-over-year— still nearly five times that of Hyundai (5.6%) and BMW (5%) combined. The trend in California underscores Tesla's challenges as the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-vehicle-misconceptions-about-the-ev-transition-market-sales-2024-5">EV market matures</a> and new competition makes it harder for the company's aging lineup to entice new buyers. In addition to these economic challenges, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-political-beliefs-public-stances-timeline-republican-desantis-2022-6">Musk's political views</a> have shifted further right, with the CEO endorsing and campaigning for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 election. That can impact sales in a solidly blue state like California. Actor Jason Bateman recently said he isn't driving a Tesla anymore because of Musk's connection to Trump. "I got rid of my Tesla," Bateman told vice presidential candidate Tim Walz on an episode of his podcast <a target="_blank" href="https://www.smartless.com/episodes/episode/288fe449/governor-tim-walz">Smartless</a>, which he hosts with Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. "I feel like I'm driving around a Trump sticker with that car, so it's gone." <h2>The EV market is maturing</h2>EV demand in the US has been slowing for about a year. It took longer for that slowdown to hit <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla">Tesla</a> than other competitors, but it's clear now that Musk is feeling the pinch as its once-reliable buyer base of wealthy early adopters is replaced by a more practical and frugal green-car shopper. Previous tactics like slashing prices and offering dealership-like incentives to buy Teslas over other EVs aren't working as well as they used to. Following <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-production-deliveries-second-quarter-decline-2024-7">two quarters of slipping sales</a>, Tesla's share of the US electric car market dipped below 50% for the first time at the end of the second quarter, according to data from Cox Automotive. The automotive retail firm attributed much of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-loses-market-share-but-elon-musk-still-wins-2024-7">Tesla's waning dominance</a> to an influx of new competition, which offered EV shoppers more choices. This increase in choices is especially threatening for Tesla, which does not regularly update the looks of its electric cars — a strategy industry experts have been warned for years could come back to bite the company. The bombastic billionaire's rise over the past decade has been in part due to his willingness to thumb his nose at some social codes and government agencies. But as Musk becomes a more permanent fixture in the US's far-right movement, some owners and potential customers have been having <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-owners-consider-selling-cars-shares-cybertruck-elon-musk-post-2023-11">second thoughts about supporting Tesla</a>. New Delhi: As the earnings season for the second quarter of FY25 unfolds, <keyword id="19959986" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-sector-banks" source="keywords">public sector banks</keyword> (PSBs) are expected to see a slight dip in profits compared to the previous quarter, according to a report by <keyword id="19896146" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Motilal-Oswal" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Motilal Oswal" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Motilal Oswal">Motilal Oswal</keyword>. The report estimates that PSBs' Profit After Tax (PAT) will decline by 0.6 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), while showing a stronger year-on-year (YoY) growth of 17.2 per cent. "We estimate PSBs to report moderate <keyword id="19899597" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="earnings-growth" source="keywords">earnings growth</keyword> of 17.2 pc YoY/ a decline of 0.6 pc QoQ in 2QFY25," the report stated. The slower pace of growth can be attributed to flat net interest margins (NIMs) and a slight increase in loan loss provisions (LLP). The <keyword id="20171160" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Net-Interest-Income" source="keywords">Net Interest Income</keyword> (NII) for PSBs is expected to grow by around 6 per cent YoY, although interest margins are likely to remain under pressure. Despite these near-term challenges, the report suggests that public sector banks are on track to post a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent between FY24 and FY26, pointing to sustained long-term growth. In the private sector banking space, the report forecasts mixed results for the same quarter. For private banks under the coverage, Pre-Provision Operating Profit (PPoP) is expected to grow by 12 per cent YoY and 1 per cent QoQ. However, PAT growth is predicted to be more modest, increasing by 5 per cent YoY and 0.6 per cent QoQ. "For our private bank coverage universe, we estimate a PPoP growth of 12 pc YoY/1 pc QoQ and a PAT growth of 5 pc YoY/0.6 pc QoQ in 2QFY25," the report added. Looking ahead, private sector banks are expected to experience steady profitability growth, with earnings projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.4 per cent over FY24-FY26. Overall, while both public and private sector banks may face moderate growth in the second quarter due to margin pressures and higher provisions, their long-term earnings prospects remain positive.
