The prestigious Joint Entrance <keyword id="49591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="examination">Examination</keyword> (<keyword id="6392660" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE">JEE</keyword>) Advanced 2021 test has been postponed in view of the coronavirus situation in the country. Since the <keyword id="9859756" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Mains-Examination">JEE Mains examination</keyword> could not be held at the scheduled time (May 24-28), so the <keyword id="1126172" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE-Advanced">JEE Advanced</keyword> examination, which was going to be held on July 3, has also been postponed, the <keyword id="55119" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword>, <keyword id="6357441" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kharagpur">Kharagpur</keyword> announced. The Union <keyword id="181369" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Education-ministry">Education Ministry</keyword> had decided to conduct the JEE Mains examination four times in the current year. Candidates can appear in all four examinations of which their best test scores will be considered for appearing for the JEE Advanced exam. However, only two of the four sessions of JEE Mains examination have been conducted till now. <keyword id="581232" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword>'s Senior Examination Director, Sadhana Parashar, said the first session of the JEE Mains examination was held in February this year and more than 6,20,000 students appeared. The second session was held in March with more than 5,56,000 students appearing. The third session of the JEE Mains examination was scheduled to be held from April 27 to 30, but had to be postponed in view of the second wave of pandemic. In the sane way, the fourth session to be held on May 24-28 was also postponed. According to the Education Ministry, students will be informed 15 days in advance before the test is conducted. The results of the JEE Main Exam Session 2 which were held in March have been already declared. These exams were conducted in 12 foreign cities and 334 Indian cities. Due to the second wave of Covid-19, the Union Education Ministry had decided to postpone all offline examinations scheduled in the month of May. This decision will be applicable to all central higher educational institutions across the country. Such higher educational institutions, which receive financial aid from the government, will also have to postpone these too. JEE Advanced exam postponed due to surge in COVID-19 cases in the country

<keyword id="18635" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="amazon" source="Orion">Amazon</keyword> on Thursday said it is shuttering its edtech offering called <keyword id="10228746" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="amazon-academy" source="Orion">Amazon Academy</keyword>'s operations in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> starting from August 2023, and will refund the full fee to those enrolled in the current academic batch. The e-commerce behemoth officially launched <keyword id="6382289" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="academy" source="Orion">Academy</keyword> (previously called <keyword id="6392660" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jee" source="Orion">JEE</keyword> Ready), last year. "At Amazon, we think big, experiment, and invest in new ideas to delight customers. We also continually evaluate the progress and potential of our products and services to deliver customer value, and we regularly make adjustments based on those assessments," a company spokesperson told IANS. "Following an assessment, we have made the decision to discontinue Amazon Academy. We are winding down this programme in a phased manner to take care of current customers," the spokesperson added. Amazon Academy's operations will discontinue starting August 2023, when the existing batch completes its test preparation module. Customers will have access to full course material online for an extended period of a year, until October 2024. The company said that it remains committed to its customers in the country and the decision will not impact its services. In January last year during the pandemic, the company launched Amazon Academy to help students prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for entrance to engineering colleges. The online preparation offered practice routines required for the JEE, through the curated learning material, live lectures and comprehensive assessments in Math, Physics and Chemistry. The service enables active learning through live lessons, helping students to strengthen their JEE preparation efforts as they can engage with expert faculty, learn concepts, and clarify doubts in real time. Bringing further discipline and rigour to their study methodology, it will offer scheduled lessons, daily practice problems and regular tests, starting with a crash course for the upcoming JEE Main. The initiative is coordinated by a group of concerned academicians. "We the members of academic fraternity fully support the government decision to conduct <keyword id="6392660" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="JEE">JEE</keyword> and <keyword id="6361994" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEET">NEET</keyword> exams," they wrote. Hitting out at the naysayers, they wrote: "The dreams and future of our youth and students cannot be compromised at any cost. However, some are trying to play with the future of our students simply to propel their own political agenda and oppose the government. "We hope and strongly believe that under your able leadership, the central government will successfully conduct the JEE and NEET exams taking full precautions to ensure that the future of students is taken care of and the academic calendar for 2020-21 is rolled out." They say that they "wholeheartedly welcome" the government's move, while citing the Supreme Court dismissing a petition for postponement of these exams saying that any further delay in conducting the tests would result in waste of precious year for students. They wrote that "Youth and students are the future of the nation but in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, clouds of uncertainty have gathered over their careers too". There are a lot of apprehensions about admissions and classes which, they say, need to be resolved at the earliest. Prof. C.B. While the JEE ranks second in the world with respect to its toughness, no other examination has been in the news as much as the NEET. In fact, the NEET was discontinued altogether back in 2013 before making a comeback three years later. Impact on the coaching industry Even with cut-offs being lowered, the exams increase in their level of competitiveness with each year as more and more applicants come forward. And, with more applicants coming on-board, the otherwise unorganised coaching industry is booming. In turn, the financial burden of pursuing <keyword id="3113818" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="engineering-in-India">engineering in India</keyword> is becoming an increasingly big issue for many aspirants as these coaching centres charge a bomb for their classes. A study by ASSOCHAM reveals that 70% of the parents, right from high-income families to the bottom stratum of the social hierarchy, are in the favor of spending hefty sums at these coaching institutes in the name of education. Reports <a href="https://ideasmakemarket.com/2013/09/aug-entry16-analysis-of-private-coaching-industry-in-india.html">indicate</a> that middle-class parents shell-out nearly one-third of their income so that their children can attend these private tuitions. But despite these private tuitions flourishing across the country, the reality of the situation remains unaltered. An exam like the JEE can only be cleared by 5,500 and more than 300,000 students appear for the exam. It’s that extreme level of competition that has led to the coaching industry showing a consistent growth of 35% over the past six years. And, that is exactly why free coaching for students will deal a big blow to the industry. That being said, the notion that private education is superior to public education still prevails in India. There might not be an actual loss for the coaching institution since the coaching centers don't cater to students who can’t afford tuition anyway. According to the Human Resource Development Ministry, the aim is to empower candidates from rural and semi-urban centres. While the NEET is the national level entrance exam to gain admission into any graduate medical course in a government or a private medical college, the JEE is an all-India exam for admission into India’s leading engineering colleges like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
