Internet major Google will partner with <keyword id="19926050" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foxconn" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Foxconn" meta.hostid="364" meta.entityid="Foxconn">Foxconn</keyword> to produce its ultra-premium Pixel smartphones for the first time in <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tamil-Nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Thursday. According to sources, Google's partnership with Foxconn is in addition to its plan to make Pixel smartphones at <keyword id="21788190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dixon-facility" source="keywords">Dixon facility</keyword>. "As a result of the negotiations, Google will partner with Foxconn in Tamil Nadu to produce the Pixel cell phones and has offered to set up a factory," Stalin said in a statement. According to the sources, Google will also export smartphones from India. "Dixon will also make Pixel smartphones under an arrangement with Compal Electronics which makes Google's devices," a source said on condition of anonymity. The <keyword id="19963696" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production" source="keywords">production</keyword> will start from September and the export will begin once the production stabilises, another source said. Emails seeking comments from Google and Foxconn in this regard did not elicit any immediate response. The company had announced plans to make Pixel smartphones in India in October. Counterpoint Research estimated Google Pixel's share in the Indian smartphone market at 0.04 per cent during the March 2024 quarter. "Google is estimated to register healthy growth of 30 per cent annually in 2024 owing to two reasons -- Google has started <keyword id="19914449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing" source="keywords">manufacturing</keyword> it entire series domestically, which will help it save in import duties and sell cost effectively. "Secondly, the growing premiumization trend will work in favour of Google boosting growth for the only devices with flagship Android experiences in the market supported by strong ATL promotions," said Neil Shah, VP Research, Counterpoint Research. As per Cybermedia Research, Google Pixel has less than one per cent market share in India. "Google is finally waking up to India's attractive domestic market as well as its potential as a global export hub. The move to make Pixels in India comes at at time when a premiumization trend surging through the smartphone market. In addition to manufacturing, Google will need to address other parts of the puzzle, including marketing and post-sales support, including a strong service network. Almost 1 in 5 Indian adults aged 60+ show signs of mild neurocognitive disorder, according to a study. Given an estimated 138 million adults over 60 years of age in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>, these estimates suggest approximately 24 million and 9.9 million older adults in India are living with mild and major neurocognitive disorder, respectively, revealed the study published in the journal <keyword id="20516892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="plos-one" source="keywords">PLOS One</keyword>. The findings showed that the prevalence of major neurocognitive disorder was greater with older ages - from about 4 per cent among those aged 60-64 years to 15.2 per cent among those aged over 80 years. "India, with its rapidly aging population, faces an alarming burden of dementia," said the team including from St. John's Medical College in Bengaluru and Johns Hopkins University in the US. For the study, the team recruited almost 4,100 participants residing in 18 geographically and linguistically diverse states such as Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, among others. The majority of the group was aged 60-79 years. They found that the prevalence is higher with older age, less educational attainment, and among illiterate and rural-living older adults. These findings highlight the growing importance of dementia in India. "The prevalence of dementia in India is higher than previously recognised. These findings, coupled with a growing number of older adults in the coming decades in India, have important implications for society, public health, and families," the researchers said in the paper. The team analysed the participants using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) -- a widely recognised clinical diagnostic authority. Tbe results showed that the population prevalence of DSM-5 mild and major neurocognitive disorder was 17.6 per cent and 7.2 per cent, respectively. Further, 12 per cent reported severe loss in at least one ADL (activities of daily living) and 8.5 per cent reported impairment in any IADL (instrumental activities of daily living). Tamil Nadu Class 12 results declared: State records 94.03 pass per cent, Kanyakumari tops list

A staggering 93 per cent of the candidates who won the 2024 <keyword id="56978" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-elections" source="Orion">Lok Sabha elections</keyword> are <keyword id="6366800" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crorepatis" source="Orion">crorepatis</keyword>, up from 88 per cent in 2019, according to an analysis by poll rights body <keyword id="484381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Association-of-Democratic-Reforms" source="Orion">Association of Democratic Reforms</keyword> (<keyword id="45376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ADR" source="Orion">ADR</keyword>). The top three wealthiest candidates are TDP's Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani from Andhra Pradesh's Guntur constituency with assets worth Rs 5,705 crore, BJP's Konda Vishweshwar Reddy from Telangana's Chevella with total assets amounting to Rs 4,568 crore and BJP's Naveen Jindal from Haryana's Kurukshetra with assets worth Rs 1,241 crore. Out of the 543 winning candidates, 504 are crorepatis, the analysis found. In 2019, 475 (88 per cent) winning candidates were crorepatis and 443 (82 per cent) in 2014. The trend indicates a steady climb since 2009 when only 315 (58 per cent) MPs were crorepatis. According to the analysis, 227 (95 per cent) of the BJP's 240 winning candidates, 92 (93 per cent) of the Congress' 99, 21 (95 per cent) of the DMK's 22, 27 (93 per cent) of the TMC's 29 and 34 (92 per cent) of the Samajwadi Party's 37 candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. All winning candidates of the AAP (3), the JDU (12) and the TDP (16) are crorepatis, ADR data showed. The analysis also delves into candidates' chances of winning based on their financial backgrounds. It found that the probability of a crorepati candidate clinching victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections stood at 19.6 per cent, compared to a meagre 0.7 per cent for candidates with assets less than a crore. The analysis also provides a breakdown of wealth distribution among the winning candidates. The data showed that 42 per cent of the candidates possess assets totalling Rs 10 crore and above. While 19 per cent of the candidates fall within the bracket of Rs 5 to 10 crore, 32 per cent hold assets ranging between Rs 1 and 5 crore. Only about 1 per cent of the winning candidates have assets worth less than Rs 20 lakh. Among major parties, the average assets per winning candidate vary significantly. The TDP leads with an average of Rs 442.26 crore per winner, followed by the BJP with Rs 50.04 crore, the DMK with Rs 31.22 crore, the Congress with Rs 22.93 crore, TMC with Rs 17.98 crore and SP with Rs 15.24 crore. The analysis also highlights disparities within the financial profiles of winning candidates. While some boast of substantial assets, others have relatively low worth. For instance, BJP's Jyotirmay Singh Mahato from West Bengal's Purulia has declared assets totalling a mere Rs 5 lakh. Similarly, TMC's Mitali Bag from West Bengal's Arambag holds assets worth Rs 7 lakh. Assets of SP's Priya Saroj from Uttar Pradesh's Machhlishahr are valued at Rs 11 lakh. In addition, the analysis identifies candidates with high liabilities. TDP's Pemmasani tops the list with liabilities exceeding Rs 1,038 crore. DMK's S Jagathratchakan from Tamil Nadu's Arakkonam has liabilities worth Rs 649 crore and TDP's Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy from Andhra Pradesh's Nellore has liabilities worth Rs 197 crore.

Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister <keyword id="6355042" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="devendra-fadnavis" source="Orion">Devendra Fadnavis</keyword>, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented a Rs 547,450 crore budget for 2023-2024 showing huge fiscal and revenue deficits, here on Thursday. As per the budget estimates, the state plans to spend Rs 547,450 crore with an estimated revenue receipt of Rs 449,522 crore over a revenue expenditure of Rs 465,645 crore, resulting in a revenue shortfall of Rs 16,211 crore - down from Rs 24,353 crore over 2022-2023. The state remains at the lead in fiscal reforms, consistently maintaining the revenue deficit below 1 per cent of the state gross domestic product (SGDP). The state government has also succeeded in keeping the fiscal deficit below 3 per cent of the SGDP, and the fiscal deficit for 2023-2024 is estimated at a whopping Rs 95,500.8 crore - up from Rs 89,598 crore over 2022-2023. <keyword id="62011" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fadnavis" source="Orion">Fadnavis</keyword> said that the budget is based on five major goals  'Panchamrut'  covering the farmers, inclusive development, infrastructure, employment and environment.
