New Delhi: The decision of the <keyword id="20330004" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defence-Acquisition-Council" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Defence Acquisition Council" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Defence Acquisition Council">Defence Acquisition Council</keyword> (DAC) to accept 10 <keyword id="22515789" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-acquisition" source="keywords">capital acquisition</keyword> proposals worth Rs 1.4 trn will not only boost <keyword id="23034601" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-defence-manufacturing" source="keywords">domestic defence manufacturing</keyword> but will contribute to the growth of the <keyword id="20362868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PSU-companies" source="keywords">PSU companies</keyword> in the defence sector, highlighted a report by Antique Stock Broking. The report noted that the growth of domestic defence manufacturing in the country has picked up significantly over the last few years and is expected to grow further in the future. It added that the government's focus on enhancing domestic capabilities is evident from its initiatives in FY24, where Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) was accorded to proposals worth approximately Rs 3.61 trillion under various capital procurement categories. These initiatives are in line with the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020, which strongly promotes domestic manufacturing. "The government, in FY24, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to proposals worth approximately INR 3.61 trn under various categories of capital procurement, which promotes domestic manufacturing as per DAP-2020" said the report. A significant milestone highlighted in the report is the remarkable increase in the share of domestic procurement in India's defence sector. The share has improved from 54 per cent in FY19 to 75 per cent in FY24. The report noted that this trend is expected to strengthen further, driven by the fact that more than 99 per cent of the announced proposals are to be sourced from the domestic industry under the "Buy (Indian)" and "Buy (Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)" categories. "The total share of domestic procurement has seen a phenomenal improvement from 54% in FY19 to 75% in FY24 and is expected to improve further. The report stated that the DAC's (Defence Acquisition Council) approval of proposals worth Rs 1.45 trillion is aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. The report further emphasizes that with Rs 1.45 trillion worth of projects already approved in the year-to-date FY25, the <keyword id="20994345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="defence-PSUs" source="keywords">defence PSUs</keyword> are poised for strong growth in the near to long term. "With approval for Rs 1.45 trn worth of projects in YTDFY25, we believe defence PSUs have strong growth opportunities in the near to long term" the report added. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to Rs 1,44,716 crore. Of the total cost of AoNs, 99 per cent is from Indigenous sources under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories, the Ministry of Defence stated. For the modernisation of the tank fleet of the Indian Army, the proposal for procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) has been cleared. The FRCV will be a futuristic Main Battle Tank with superior mobility, all-terrain ability, multilayered protections, precision and lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness, the release stated. The AoN was also accorded for procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars, which will detect and track aerial targets and provide firing solutions. The proposal has also been approved for Forward Repair Team (Tracked) which has suitable cross-country mobility for carrying out in-situ repair during mechanised operations.

India will be picking up AI-enabled military tech from South Korea at the DefExpo 2020

The single engine Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) got wings at Defexpo-2020 on Friday after Chairman Defence Research and Development Organisation's initial operational clearance to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for its production. HAL CMD R. Madhavan received the initial operational clearance certification from G. Sateesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO, at the 'Bandhan' programme held at the ongoing <keyword id="8154465" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="DefExpo-2020">DefExpo 2020</keyword> in the presence of Defence Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword> and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and others. The move will help armed forces to replace the ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters. HAL will be manufacturing indigenously designed and developed helicopters that will meet the operational requirements of armed forces. "This is a momentous occasion for HAL. It reinforces our commitment towards indigenous R&amp;D programmes on self-reliance and enhancing operational effectiveness of the Indian armed forces. HAL is fully geared to fulfil the requirements of its customers in a time-bound manner," said R Madhavan. India's indigenous Light Utility Helicopter to meet the requirement of Armed Forces

Mumbai, Jan 16 ( ) Industry body SIAM on Thursday said it expects that Auto Expo-Motor Show 2020 will help reviving the sector, which has reported the worst-ever decline in volume in the previous year.
Outlining the contours of the 6-day mega industry event, scheduled to be held in Greater Noida from February 7, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers ( SIAM) deputy director general Sugato Sen also said at this year's show as many as 65 various launches are expected as against 80 toll outs by the SIAM members during the 2018 show.
Besides, as many as 75 per cent of the passenger vehicle makers and 75 per cent of the commercial vehicle manufacturers are likely to participate in the mega industry event.
He also said that despite the Motor Show being hosted under "difficult circumstances", the footfall are expected to be the same as in the previous shows.
"The year 2020 will be generally negative in terms of volume. But we will be hoping the 2020 Motor show will be the launching pad for the revival of the industry," Sen said.
'Explore the World of Mobility' is the theme of the 15th edition of the show which is in line with the industry's vision and message of technology, capability - for a safer, cleaner, connected, bespoke and shared mobility for tomorrow, SIAM said.
"Despite facing severe business challenges this year at Auto Expo, the industry will get together and put the best efforts to give a new dimension and feel to the visitors, enabling them to Explore the World of Mobility.
"The 15th Edittion will be the auto show will be one of the cleanest &amp; greenest expo ever with complete range of clean &amp; green vehicles," Gurpratap Boparai, Chairman, SIAM Trade Fair Group and Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited said.
The show will also feature new emission technology products and vehicles with more stringent safety standards under one roof, SIAM said, adding the auto show will not just be a futuristic perspective of the Indian auto industry but will also showcase Indian automotive industry's preparedness to adopt the BSVI norms.
The new emission standards are set to come into force from April 1.
The Expo will witness many new entrants including startups who are participating and showcasing their products and technologies in green mobility.
The show will also see the participation of some of the non-automotive companies such as Reliance Jio, among others. IAS BAL

The auto major currently manufactures three-door Jimny at its Gurugram plant and exports to Middle East and African markets. The model, though compact in size, is well known for its off-road prowess. Jimny has been in the global market for over 50 years. We have collected some very good feedback from the customers. This lifestyle SUV segment is small but there is a class of customers who really want that kind of a vehicle, he noted. "The volumes are less but such vehicles lift the image of an OEM. At the same time, it also helps support many customer aspirations," Srivastva said. He noted that various aspects, from pricing to component supply etc, need to be evaluated for launching any kind of new product in a market. "Due to COVID, there has been some delay regarding new product introductions. But now we are all set for new launches. We are looking at all segments where we think there are opportunities while strengthening our existing strong points," Srivastva stated. MSI is looking to consolidate its position in the mid-SUV segment where its market share remains low as compared to the rivals, he noted. "In the SUV segment our market share is around 13-14 per cent. If we go into the details, in the entry SUV segment, Vitara Brezza is the number one selling vehicle despite new launches. "But, if we look at the mid-SUV segment, which currently accounts for around 18 per cent of the entire PV segment, our market share is very low. We have <keyword id="2458725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="s-cross" source="Orion">S-Cross</keyword> in that space which is not giving enough volume. So clearly we have a low market share in a growing segment," Srivastva said. The company is therefore looking at the mid-SUV segment very closely, he added. "We need to strengthen our product portfolio in this particular segment. We are looking at those places where we have weakness in our product range, bigger SUV space is one of those areas," Srivastva noted. As per SIAM data, utility vehicle sales in the April-November period of the current fiscal stood at 8,70,894 units, up 57 per cent from 5,55,746 units in the same period of the previous fiscal.
