"Allegations of Government of India's involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated," the MEA added in its statement. "Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister to our Prime Minister and were completely rejected. We are a democratic polity with a strong commitment to the rule of law," it added. The MEA said that the Canadian diplomat was asked to leave India within the next five days. "The High Commissioner of Canada to India was summoned today and informed about the decision of the Government of India to expel a senior Canadian diplomat based in India," the MEA stated. "The concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days. The decision reflects the Government of India's growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities," it added. New Delhi, Jan 9 () The Indo-Canadian Business Chamber and Air Canada on Thursday announced 'Brand Canada', a 10-city roadshow in India supported by the Trade Commissioner Service of the Government of Canada.
 The initiative will see Canadian provinces and companies travel to Indian cities between January and March in an effort to bring both countries closer through investment and business opportunities.
 "India and Canada are natural partners with mutual priorities and policy initiatives. While the two countries have a busy trade corridor, there is still untapped potential in the tier-II cities of India. As part of our continuous efforts to enhance trade and investment, the primary objective is to take the Canada story and the economic brand to the interior parts of India," said Nadira Hamid, chief executive officer, Indo-Canadian Business Chamber.
 Andrew Smith, minister (commercial), High Commission of Canada in India, said, under 'Modi 2.0', India intends to double its economy to USD 5 trillion by 2025.
 The cities of India will become economic powerhouses to help propel India to achieve that USD 5 trillion goal and partnering with Canadian businesses will help the country achieve that, he added.
 The first event is scheduled for January 13, 2020, in Gurugram and will move to cities like Indore, Jaipur, Aurangabad, Pune, Baroda, Bhubaneshwar, Ludhiana and Mysore. It will conclude on March 27 in Visakhapatnam.
 These will be day-long events in each city with talks, presentations, discussions as well as trade kiosks that will help further accelerate ease of doing business in Canada for Indian investments. RSN HRS

"You have a lot of capabilities but Canada is a small place for you considering your potential so it is important for you to look for new open fields. The most appropriate in this regard is India which has 125 crore people, demography, democracy and demand," Modi said. 
 
He said, "After a long time there is a stable and progressive government in India which can provide maximum benefits." 
 
He told the CEOs that India is fast-moving towards reforms and opportunities are innumerable. 
 
Modi also mentioned opening up of sectors like railways, insurance and housing. 
 
"There have been several progressive decisions one after another. I want Canadian companies to take advantage of it," Modi said. 
 
He also talked about solid waste management as part of the 'Clean India' campaign, giving the slogan from "waste to wealth." He said whoever has expertise should come to India in this regard. 
 
Modi also discussed the 100 smart cities programme. "The US has already decided to develop three cities. Japan and Australia have also done so and Canadian companies should also come," he said. 
 
Modi also talked about the possibilities of collaboration in the Ganga cleaning programme, stating that the river is 2,500 km long and 40 per cent population is dependent on it.

During <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>'s April visit to Canada, the two countries inked a <keyword id="2900582" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="uranium-supply">uranium supply</keyword> agreement to put an end to unnecessary decades-long frosty relationship. Canadian High Commissioner to India <keyword id="1087852" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nadir-Patel">Nadir Patel</keyword> told ET, "This is a concrete outcome of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Canada this April. We are expecting first uranium supply later this year as part of the steady supply of nuclear fuel that has been agreed." Tracking of nuclear fuel to be supplied will be carried out in accordance with <keyword id="55742" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-Atomic-Energy-Agency">International Atomic Energy Agency</keyword> safeguards as agreed by India and to the satisfaction of Canada, added Patel. Under a $254 million five-year deal to power atomic reactors, Canada will supply 3,000 metric tonnes of uranium to energy-hungry India. Canada was the first country to complete the requirements for civil nuclear cooperation after India secured the unconditional waiver from the <keyword id="106964" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nuclear-Suppliers-Group">Nuclear Suppliers Group</keyword> (NSG) in 2008. Subsequently, India and Canada signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement in 2010. This was followed by the signing of an administrative arrangement in 2012, as per the financial daily. 

	In the past, nuclear power plants in India have faced uranium shortage; and to fuel these power plants, Cameco has been holding commercial discussions with Indian entities. According to Patel, the supply of uranium will be just one part of the comprehensive civil nuclear partnership.
 

	In October, the Canadian civil nuclear trade mission to India will explore partnership for joint research and collaboration. Patel told ET, this could include jointly producing civil nuclear reactors with Indian partners or setting up of nuclear reactors by Canadian companies.

Canada has signed an agreement with the US to send a Canadian astronaut around the moon in 2023, Navdeep Bains, Canada's minister of innovation, science and industry, has said. At a video news conference on Wednesday, Bains unveiled the Gateway Treaty, which formalises Canada's involvement in the US-led effort to build a new international space station above the moon surface to allow for exploration and future missions to Mars, Xinhua reported. The treaty includes a commitment to having a Canadian on board when the US conducts a flyby of the moon in 2023, as well as a second flight to the future station. It will not include a moon landing. "Launching in 2023, a Canadian Space Agency astronaut will be part of <keyword id="244551" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Artemis">Artemis</keyword> 2, the first mission to carry humans to lunar orbit in over 50 years. This will make Canada only the second country after the US to have an astronaut in deep space," Bains told the news conference with a few Canadian Space Agency astronauts. Under the treaty, Canada will contribute a new robotic arm to help with the construction of the Lunar Gateway, which will orbit the moon and allow for exploration of the lunar surface and assist future missions to Mars. Bains did not say how much it will cost Canada to participate in the Artemis 2 flight, which will follow an unmanned flyby of the moon that the United States has scheduled for next year. Earlier this month, Canada committed 22.8 million Canadian dollars to the first phase of developing Canadarm 3, a new robotic arm that will be used on the moon station. "It's important to note that we're a spacefaring nation, and very proud of our space history," the Canadian minister said. "And this investment with regards to the Artemis 2 program, as well as the overall space strategies is well over two billion Canadian dollars over the next 24 years." The Canadian Space Agency is one of several partners in the US-led endeavor along with the European Space Agency and their Japanese counterpart.
