New Delhi, Apr 18 () Pre-paid customers of BSNL, who could not recharge their accounts during the lockdown, will continue to get incoming calls till May 5, the company said on Saturday.     "In view of hardships faced by the subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period and are having almost zero balance, BSNL as a humane gesture, is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to May 5, 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," the state-run telecom firm said in a statement.    BSNL has also launched recharge helpline on a toll-free number for subscribers to get their recharge done.     The facility is currently available in North and West zones and will be available from April 22, 2020, in south and east zones."BSNL firmly stands beside its subscribers during this crisis period and we request the subscribers to 'Go Digital' for recharging their accounts," BSNL CMD PK Purwar said Shri. BSNL extends prepaid connection validity till May 5

New Delhi, Mar 30 () State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL will extend validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offer Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown."This will enable poor people make calls for help even if they don't have any balance left," Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a tweet.The minister also took stock of performance of essential services under the Department of Telecom (DoT) and Department of Post, with heads of circles from all states through a video-conference on Monday."During the video conference, took feedback on functioning of their essential services during #21daysLockdown from heads of circles of BSNL and India Post. Exhorted them to rise to the occasion and set new benchmarks in public service as #IndiaFightsCorona," the minister tweeted.In a statement, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) said it will offer free validity extension for prepaid mobile subscribers who were unable to recharge after their validity expired during the lockdown period, and also provide free talktime worth Rs 10 to those with zero balance during this phase.BSNL said these facilities have been provided to facilitate communication by its mobile subscribers in emergency."In view of hardships faced by the mobile subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period from 22nd March 2020 and are not able to recharge for extension of validity, BSNL, as a support to its esteemed mobile subscribers is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to 20th April 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," BSNL said in a statement.In addition to this, BSNL is also giving free talk time of Rs 10 to all such subscribers who reach zero balance during the lockdown period, the statement added.BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Praveen Kumar Purwar said, "BSNL firmly stands with its subscribers during this crisis period and we request the subscribers to 'Go Digital' for recharging their accounts. Relief for users: BSNL, MTNL to extend prepaid validity up to April 20, offer Rs 10 additional talktime

<keyword id="3690255" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jiofiber" source="Orion">JioFiber</keyword> added 0.19 million subscribers to become the number 1 operator in the fixed broadband segment in just about two years from commercial launch, with 4.34mn FBB subs. JioFiber's market share improved 85bp month on month to 16.9 per cent (launched commercially in Sep-19), Nomura said in a report. Bharti added 0.1mn subs to reach 4.08mn FBB subs (up 68% since May-20), with market share up 60bp m-m to 15.9 per cent. <keyword id="57998" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-sanchar-nigam-limited" source="Orion">Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited</keyword>'s (BSNL) market share further declined by 185 bp to 16.4 per cent share (vs 44 per cent pre-JioFiber launch in September'19), the report said. Hence, we expect market share gains to continue for Bharti and R-Jio, the report said. TRAI data for November shows a slight improvement in industry numbers, with Jio gaining market share at the expense of VIL, UBS said in a report. After a large decline in September (driven by the 19mn subscriber loss reported by Jio) and flattish numbers in October, the industry witnessed a slight improvement in November, with overall subscriber base expanding by 1.2mn. Bharti gained 1.3mn subs (-0.5mn in Oct), Jio added 2mn subs (+1.8mn in Oct), while VIL continued to lose market share: it lost 1.9mn subs (versus loss of 1mn and 1.1mn in Oct and Sept respectively). Jio remains the market leader, with a subscriber market share (SMS) of 36.7 per cent (+10bps). Bharti and VIL ended Nov with SMS of 30.4 per cent (flat MoM) and 22.9 per cent (down 20bps) respectively. It is important to note that the tariff hikes were largely applicable from end-November / December, and therefore, December is likely to see some churn, UBS said. In fixed broadband, Jio surpassed BSNL to become the country's largest FBB provider. Jio now has 4.3mn FBB subs (+0.2mn in Nov), followed by BSNL with 4.2mn subs (-0.5mn in Nov) and Airtel with 4.1mn subs (+0.1mn in Nov). JioFiber adds 0.19 million subscribers, overtakes BSNL to become largest fixed broadband provider

State-owned <keyword id="30351" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSNL">BSNL</keyword> brings good news for its subscribers with its plan to offer <keyword id="2880548" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="free-incoming">free incoming</keyword> calls on roaming from June 15, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today. 

	"BSNL will start offering free national roaming from June 15. It's already on the recovery path," Prasad said at a press meet marking one year of the Modi government. 
 The announcement comes ahead of full mobile number portability (<keyword id="108664" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="MNP">MNP</keyword>), which will be effective July this year. BSNL has a mobile subscriber base of 7.72 crore at the end of March. 

	"Although there could be slight reduction in revenue on account of free incoming calls during roaming, we expect to gain first mover advantage and anticipate offsetting this amount by arresting churnout/porting out and acquiring new customers," BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava said at the press meet. 
 However, free incoming calls will be offered for one year. The Minister added that in 2004, BSNL made profits of Rs 10,000 crore, and its loss stood at Rs 7,500 crore in 2014 when the Modi government took over. <keyword id="28256" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="MTNL">MTNL</keyword>, he said, was in profit zone till 2008, but is now facing losses. 

	MTNL offers services in Delhi and Mumbai while BSNL takes care of the rest of the country. 
 

	Prasad added that the government is taking all possible steps to revive these two state-owned entities. 
 

	The efforts are bearing fruit, he said, adding BSNL's revenue went up 2.1 per cent in 2014-15 and active subscribers rose 47 lakhs, thus reversing the negative trend of previous years. 
 

	Under phase VII of BSNL, 15,000 new base tower stations were commissioned in one year which have reduced call drops and eased congestion. 
 

	"MTNL added 2.11 lakh subscribers in 2014-15, arresting the negative trend of previous years, and will add 1,680 tower sites in Delhi and Mumbai each," he said. 
 

	However, he did not say anything specific about talks of merger of the two.

BSNL to offer free incoming calls on roaming from June 15

New Delhi, Jan 16 () Reliance Jio has become the largest telecom player with 36.9 crore mobile subscribers in November 2019, according to the data published by telecom regulator Trai on Thursday. 
Vodafone Idea reported a total mobile subscriber base of 33.62 crore and Bharti Airtel at 32.73 crore customers for November 2019. 
Total telephone subscribers in the country declined by 2.4 per cent to 117.58 crore in November from 120.48 crore in October. 
Mobile subscriber base, which dominates overall telecom connections, declined by 2.43 per cent to 115.43 crore in November from 118.34 crore in October with Vodafone Idea losing the highest number of subscribers.
 Vodafone Idea lost 3.6 crore customers in the month.
 Reliance Jio added 56 lakh new customers, followed by Bharti Airtel which added 16.59 lakh new subscribers and BSNL 3.41 lakh.
Fixed-line connections also declined to 2.12 crore in November 2019 from 2.14 crore in October. 
BSNL continued to record a dip in subscriber base. BSNL lost 1.64 lakh fixed line customers and its subscriber base slipped to seven digits for the first time at 98.3 lakh. 
 Reliance Jio fixed line customer base reached 7 digits to 10.23 lakh with addition of 43,198 new connections. 
 The number of broadband subscribers in the country grew by 2.67 per cent to 66.12 crore in November from 64.4 crore in October. 
 "Top five service providers constituted 98.99 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of November 2019," Trai said. 
 Reliance Jio Infocomm led the chart with 37 crore subscribers, Bharti Airtel 13.99 crore, Vodafone Idea 11.98 crore, BSNL 2.25 crore and Atria Convergence 15 lakh, as per Trai data. PRS MR

According to the report, BSNL added over 2.94 million mobile subscribers in July. Bharti Airtel lost 1.69 million mobile subscribers which was highest among its peers. Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio lost 1.41 million and 758,000 mobile subscribers, respectively. Overall, the telecom subscriber base in the country declined marginally to 1,205.17 million in July from 1,205.64 million in June. North East, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Kolkata, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal, UP East, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh telecom circles recorded decline in mobile customer base post the hike in mobile services rates. The wireline or the fixed line connections segment increased by about 1% to 35.56 million in July from 35.11 million in June. Reliance Jio led the fixed-line segment with addition of over 480,000 new subscribers. It was followed by Bharti Airtel which added over 136,000 new subscribers, VMIPL 12,413, Vi 11,375, Tata Teleservices 3,971 and Quadrant added 12 new fixed line customers. BSNL was the biggest loser in the segment. The state-run firm lost 134,000 fixed line customers and its sister concern lost 56,454 customers. The broadband customer base in the country increased to 946.19 million at the end of July from 940.75 million in June. Top five players accounted for 98.42% of total broadband connection in the country. Reliance Jio led the chart with 488.63 million <keyword id="23252277" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="broadband-customers" source="keywords">broadband customers</keyword>, Airtel with 284.03 million, Vodafone Idea with 126.72 million, BSNL with 29.61 million and Atria Convergence with 2.26 million. According to a report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Jio added 8.1 million subscribers in April month alone, and a total of 25 million since the start of the year. Its total number of users now stands at 314.8 million. Meanwhile, Airtel has lost users, and its numbers went down from 325.1 million to 321.8 million. Vodafone Idea’s users too went down marginally from 394.8 million in March to 393.2 million in April. In March and April combined, Airtel has lost 18.4 million users while Vodafone Idea has lost 16.1 million subscribers.

 The TRAI report also mentioned that a total of 4.57 million requests were received for Mobile Number Portability in April 2019. Jio also continued to maintain its top rank in the number of broadband subscribers with 314.81 million users. ‘Impossible to run operations’ In the meanwhile state-owned BSNL which actually added 0.2 million subscribers in April has a different set of woes. The cash-strapped <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/sectors/jobs/bsnl-no-funds-june-salaries-to-pay-employees-bharat-sanchar-nigam-limited-modi-government/story/358576.html">company</a> has said that “it’s nearly impossible to run operations”. The company has no money to pay salaries to its employees to the tune of ₹8.5 billion. “The gap between monthly revenues and bare expenses to continue operations as a going concern has reached to a level where continuing with the BSNL operations would be nearly impossible without immediate infusion of adequate equity,” the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/nearly-impossible-to-run-operations-bsnl/articleshow/69920159.cms">Times of India</a> quoted a letter sent by Puran Chandra, senior general manager at BSNL’s corporate budget and banking division, to the joint secretary in the telecom ministry. BSNL has seen its financial troubles mounting with a debt of ₹135 billion. New Delhi, Mar 20 () State-run telecom firm BSNL on Friday announced free broadband service for its landline and new customers for a month to support 'work from home' allowed by most organisations amid the coronavirus outbreak. New customers opting for copper cable based connection will not have to pay even installation charges but will need to buy modem for the service, BSNL officials said. "Broadband service is being offered free of charge for one month to all citizens across the country, who have BSNL landline and do not have any broadband, so that they can use this service either to work from home, educate from home or anything that can minimise the need to move outdoor," BSNL Director (CFA) Vivek Banzal said in a statement. Another BSNL official said the scheme is also applicable for new customers and after a month of usage, all the subscribers will be moved to paid plans. The official said installation charge will be applicable for customers opting for optical fibre connectivity. BSNL customers can apply for the connection over phone.
