<keyword id="6358777" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-delhi" source="Orion">New Delhi</keyword>, May 24 (PTI) Shares of <keyword id="6358361" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="biocon" source="Orion">Biocon</keyword> climbed nearly 8 per cent on Wednesday after the biotechnology major's consolidated net <keyword id="6362247" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit" source="Orion">profit</keyword> increased 31 per cent for the March quarter. The stock gained 7.12 per cent to Rs 259.50 on the <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword>. At the NSE, it rallied 7.61 per cent to Rs 260.60. Biocon on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit increased 31 per cent to Rs 313 crore for the March quarter on the back of robust sales. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 239 crore in January-March 2021-22. Total revenue increased to Rs 3,929 crore in the fourth quarter as against Rs 2,476 crore in the year-ago period, Biocon said in a statement. For the year ended March 31, 2023, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 463 crore as against Rs 648 crore in 2021-22. Total revenue, however, increased to Rs 11,550 crore as compared with Rs 8,397 crore in FY22. Biocon shares rally nearly 8 pc after Q4 earnings

Global biopharmaceuticals company <keyword id="6358361" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="biocon" source="Orion">Biocon</keyword> on Wednesday reported 23 per cent rise in revenue for the first quarter of financial year 2023, at Rs 2,217 crore. "We have had a strong start to the year. At a consolidated level, YoY revenues grew 23 per cent backed by robust growth in both <keyword id="6359687" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="biosimilars" source="Orion">Biosimilars</keyword> (29 per cent) and Generics (19 per cent). Core earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) grew 25 per cent and margin improved to 31 per cent compared to 30 per cent in Q1FY22 and net profit grew 71 per cent to Rs 144 crore. "Our financial performance this quarter includes the impact of annual increments in personnel costs as well as increased input and freight costs, pursuant to pandemic and geopolitical disruptions of global supply chains. Biocon Q1FY23 revenue up 23% at Rs 2,217 cr

Biocon’s subsidiary raises $30 million from Tata Capital – company’s shares jump by almost 2%

The shares of Cipla ended 0.62% lower on Friday. ITC On Friday, Consumer staples-to-hospitality major ITC reported an 18.23% drop in its consolidated net profit to ₹3,413.44 crore. The drop came despite a 2.18% growth in its revenue from operations to ₹13,147.81 crore during the period under review. Its FMCG segment delivered a decent sales growth of 15.4% (YoY), but wasn’t enough to offset the volume decline of 12% in its cigarette segment. The shares of ITC ended 0.54% lower on Friday. Divi’s Labs Drug firm, Divi’ ’s Laboratories, reported a 45.63% rise in its consolidated net profit to ₹519.59 crore for the quarter ended September 30, mainly on account of robust sales. Consolidated total income stood at ₹1,762.94 crore compared to ₹1,492.60 crore for the same period a year ago. The shares of Divi’s Labs ended 0.40% higher on Friday. Biocon Kiran Mazumdar Shaw-led Biocon’s subsidiary, Biocon Biologics, had received a ₹1,125 crore investment from Goldman Sachs. This capital injection will enable Biocon Biologics to make prudent investments in R&amp;D, high-quality manufacturing, as well as, establish a global commercial footprint, the company said. The shares of Biocon ended 0.17% higher on Friday. Lakshmi Vilas Bank Private sector Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) reported a net loss of ₹397 crore in the second quarter ended September 30 due to a rise in bad loans and provisions. Sequentially, the loss widened against ₹112.28 crore in the June quarter of this fiscal. Tata Consumer Products Tata Consumer Products reported an 18% rise in consolidated net profit to ₹234.33 crore for the quarter ended September 30, helped by an increase in domestic sales and volumes. Its revenue from operations was up 18.50% to ₹2,781.34 crore during the quarter under review. The shares of Tata Consumer Products ended 0.64% higher on Friday. Here’s why Info Edge stocks rallied over 5% despite 60% fall in quarterly profit

Fixed deposits have been a mode of saving for a long time but now you can earn one-year's return on a bank fixed deposit in just a day. This can be done by investing your money in equities. 
 "An equity investor has to accept the swing of the pendulum. If he can average himself at the lower end of the pendulum into this market, probably he will make far more money in equity than in fixed income," Nilesh Shah, MD, Kotak <keyword id="6358378" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AMC">AMC</keyword>, told ET. 
 
Of course this might look like an exaggeration, but there have been instances in the past when stock prices shot up more than 10% in a single day. 
 
In 2016, the benchmark equity indices might have disappointed investors so far, but there is no dearth of multibagger stocks. 
 Nearly 20 stocks from the smallcap space have more than doubled investors' wealth in last one year while 10 stock from the midcap space -including <keyword id="6358361" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Biocon">Biocon</keyword>, Indian Bank, <keyword id="45609" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JSW-Steel">JSW Steel</keyword>, Piramal Enterprises, HPCL and UPL, among others - have delivered over 50% returns. 
 
It is expected from the domestic equity market that it will remain rangebound for the next two months at least, say experts. However, investors can use any dip to buy quality stocks. 
 
The broader market indices are ending the calendar year broadly at the same level where they were at the beginning of the year while fixed income as an asset class has delivered double-digit returns courtesy an interest rate cut as well as a rise in liquidity thanks to demonetisation. 
 
However, things might be a little different for the fixed income space. Though fixed income remains one of the safest asset classes, betting on equities could just help create more wealth. 
 
Interest rates on FDs are most likely to fall further in 2017. At present, nearly all the banks offer rates between 6.5 and 7.2 % for tenures ranging from one to 10 years. This time last year, the 10-year G-sec yield stood at 7.7 % compared with 6.4 % now, a drop of 1.3 % over the past 12 months. 
 
"For investors, it is crucial to get the entry right and buying good stocks at right prices is important. If you invest in bank fixed deposit for one year, the likely post-tax return you are going to get after waiting for 365 days will be lower than what one stock can deliver on a single good day," Shah told ET. 
 
The only thing one has to look after is that to buy the right stock and choose the right time. It is a difficult task but the potential for good returns is very high too. 
 
Interest rates have come down over time and government policies such as demonetisation and GST implementation are likely to see a further drop in rates. 
 "Fixed deposits do not look like an attractive investment tool for the near term, if interest rates keep on falling. In this scenario, new investors should invest in equities and mutual funds, as current valuations offer them a good entry point," <keyword id="51020" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dinesh-Thakkar">Dinesh Thakkar</keyword>, Chairman &amp; Managing Director, <keyword id="103837" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Angel-Broking">Angel Broking</keyword>, told ET.
