Fintech platform <keyword id="7349800" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="bharatpe" source="Orion">BharatPe</keyword> on Wednesday said it has appointed former SBI <keyword id="14627699" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="card-cfo" source="Orion">Card CFO</keyword> <keyword id="13810597" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nalin-negi" source="Orion">Nalin Negi</keyword> as its new chief financial officer, as it prepares for its initial public offering (IPO). In his new role, <keyword id="4151" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="negi" source="Orion">Negi</keyword> will take charge of the finance function for BharatPe and will be working towards making the company EBITDA positive by March 2023. He will report to <keyword id="4534514" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="suhail-sameer" source="Orion">Suhail Sameer</keyword>, CEO, BharatPe and work closely with the <keyword id="14627700" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="board-of-bharatpe" source="Orion">Board of BharatPe</keyword>, the company said in a statement. "His experience of listing SBI Card will be instrumental for us as we aim to go public in FY25," said Sameer. BharatPe closed the first quarter of FY23 with over Rs 3,600 crore in total loans facilitated and $18 billion in annualised TPV in payments. "The company has become a preferred and trusted partner for millions of offline merchants in just 4 years of launch," said Negi, who will lead the financial readiness of the company as it prepares for the IPO. IPO-bound BharatPe appoints new CFO amid high-profile exits

New Delhi, Ed-tech titan <keyword id="3320944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Byjus" source="Orion">Byjus</keyword> is looking to sell its overseas ventures Epic and Great Learning to pay back its entire USD 1.2 billion (Rs 9,956 crore) loan to lenders, a source familiar with the matter said. The ed-tech decacorn has been in discussions with the lenders and has made a proposal to clear its Term B loan, the source said. Byju's hopes to garner between USD 800 million to USD 1 billion from the sale of Epic, the US-based kids learning firm, and Great Learning - the upskilling platform. The firm is also working on raising fresh capital from equity sales, and is working with bankers for the sale of the aforementioned key assets to strategic investors -- which has also garnered interest, the source said. An email sent to the ed-tech platform for comments remained unanswered. India's most-valued startup is hoping to repay the entire USD 1.2 billion term loan B (TLB) in under six months. Of this, it is proposing to repay USD 300 million in the next three months. Lenders have not yet responded to the proposal. Byju's in November 2021 raised USD 1.2 billion in debt through a term loan facility (TLB) from a group of overseas investors. A TLB is a type of senior secured syndicated credit facility that is issued by global institutional investors. Typically, the proceeds from a TLB are used to either refinance an existing debt or to make overseas acquisitions in order to enhance a company's offerings. Byju's had acquired Aakash USD 950 million in 2021. In July this year, the steering committee of ad hoc term loan lenders is reported to have agreed to amend the USD 1.2 billion term loan. The development comes after the company formed an advisory council with ex-Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Bharatpe Chairman and former SBI chief Rajnish Kumar after the exit of investors G V Ravishankar of Sequoia Capital (now Peak XV Partners), Vivian Wu of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Russell Dreisenstock of Prosus. Byjus had acquired Epic in a USD 500 million cash-and-stock deal in May 2022.

Former <keyword id="7349800" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bharatpe" source="Orion">BharatPe</keyword> co-founder and managing director <keyword id="2988161" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ashneer-grover" source="Orion">Ashneer Grover</keyword> has revealed he made a cool ₹2.25 crore from <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword> IPO within 8 minutes of its opening in July last year. In his memoir 'Doglapan', <keyword id="3433" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="grover" source="Orion">Grover</keyword> said that with the IPO being oversubscribed more than 30 times, he got an allotment of shares worth over ₹3 crore. "My RMs (relationship managers), based on grey-market premiums, were expecting the Zomato share to list between ₹85-90, as against an issue price of ₹76. I, however, was certain that it would do far better. When the share opened on the listing day at ₹116 per share, I mandated them to sell all my shares," he wrote. By the time the trade got executed, "I got a selling price of ₹136 per share. With my landing cost after interest being between ₹82-85, 1 ended up making over ₹2.25 crore," he said. "Within eight minutes of the Zomato IPO opening, I had made over ₹2.25 crore." Grover said that he became a little greedy post the Zomato IPO. "I went in for the Car Trade IPO but ended up losing ₹25 lakh there," he said. Grover, currently facing a court case filed by BharatPe that he co-founded, said that he was bullish on the Zomato IPO on several counts. "Of course, I knew of Deepinder (Goyal), and I am a big believer in his ability to persevere and keep building big. Fundamentally, with the pandemic the ticket size of their orders had grown, as people were ordering food from home for 3-4 members in the family, as against single rolls in office, thereby increasing Zomato's absolute margins," he wrote. Moreover, with restaurants completely dependent during lockdowns on app orders, there was no risk of the take-rate coming down. "On the other hand, job insecurity among delivery boys kept delivery costs in check. In fact, COVID magically solved the food delivery economics in the country overnight, just like it skyrocketed <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> penetration," said Grover. I made ₹2.25 crore within 8 minutes of Zomato IPO opening: Ashneer Grover

New Delhi, <keyword id="2461546" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="FinTech">FinTech</keyword> services company <keyword id="7349800" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharatpe">BharatPe</keyword> on Monday announced that it has raised ₹139 crore (nearly $20 million) in debt from <keyword id="4844054" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alteria-Capital">Alteria Capital</keyword> and <keyword id="6653" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword>. The company raised ₹90 crore in debt from Alteria Capital and ₹49 crore from ICICI Bank. The company has raised a total of ₹199 crore in debt to date. "We have committed ourselves to have $700 miilion of <keyword id="6362287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="loans">loans</keyword> to small merchants and kirana store owners by March 2023 and are hoping to on-board more institutional debt partners in the near future," said Ashneer Grover, <keyword id="170488" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="co-founder">Co-Founder</keyword> and CEO, BharatPe. "We aim to become a digital bank that is the one-stop destination for merchants for all kinds of financial services and this tranche of funds will get things rolling". The company is disbursing loans of ₹200 crore per month to merchant partners currently and has set a target of disbursing ₹1,000 crore of loans in the FY21. "We have already disbursed loans to more to 1 lakh merchants and aim to scale this up by 8-10 times and enable credit for a million (10 lakh) kirana store owners in 2021," said Suhail Sameer, Group President, BharatPe. BharatPe gets $20 million in debt funding from Alteria Capital and ICICI Bank — aims to raise a total of $700 million in the next two years

Leaving the <keyword id="2988161" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ashneer-grover" source="Orion">Ashneer Grover</keyword> controversy behind, fintech platform <keyword id="7349800" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharatpe" source="Orion">BharatPe</keyword> has closed one of the highest growth quarters in its history, facilitating over Rs 3,600 crore in loans in the first quarter (April-June period) of FY23. This is a growth of 112 per cent over the last quarter. BharatPe said it also reached an all-time high of $18.5 billion in annualised total payment value (TPV) -- a growth of 50 per cent over the last quarter. "Post a successful FY22 that we closed with a 3 times growth in merchant loans, 2.5 times growth in payments and a 4 times jump in revenue, BharatPe has recorded its' best ever quarter in Q1, FY23," said <keyword id="4534514" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="suhail-sameer" source="Orion">Suhail Sameer</keyword>, CEO, BharatPe. "We are on an incredible growth journey, driven by a huge shift in behaviour towards digital payment modes, rise of <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> and the increased acceptance of new-age fintech products," he added. The company facilitated disbursals to over 1.2 lakh merchants in Q1, FY23, up from 66,000 merchants in the last quarter of FY22. Additionally, BharatPe's other product offerings, including the card acceptance POS businesses (BharatSwipe) and its investment platform for merchants recorded consistent growth (over 30 per cent) compared to the last quarter. "We are on track to achieve our target of $2 billion in loans facilitated (through our NBFC/bank partners) across both consumer and merchant business by the end of FY23 as well as scaling TPV to $30 billion by March 2023," said Sameer. Merchant payment and lending service provider <keyword id="7349800" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharatpe">BharatPe</keyword> on Thursday said it has acquired <keyword id="1917213" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PAYBACK-India">Payback India</keyword> from <keyword id="91294" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-Express">American Express</keyword> and ICICI Investments Strategic Fund. The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. This is the first-ever acquisition by BharatPe and will make Payback <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> a wholly-owned subsidiary of BharatPe, a statement said. Payback India - launched in 2010 - is a multi-brand loyalty programme with over 100 million members in the country. It has a network of more than 100 offline and online partners and allows its customers to earn and redeem points on every transaction at its partner merchant outlets. The acquisition of Payback India is in line with BharatPe's strategy to build a robust and engaged network of over 20 million small merchants by 2023, the statement said. With Payback India, BharatPe will be able to enhance its value proposition for the merchant partners, it added. Additionally, it will enable BharatPe to build a lucrative set of offerings for end customers, that will enhance footfalls at merchants and accelerate the growth of their businesses. As a result of the acquisition, all Payback India employees will become part of the BharatPe group. Suhail Sameer and Gautam <keyword id="2220" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaushik">Kaushik</keyword> (Group Presidents at BharatPe) along with Sumeet Singh, General Counsel of BharatPe, have joined the Board of Payback India. The role of the senior leadership team at Payback India will be expanded to also work on the loyalty programme for the six-million plus merchants of BharatPe, it added. The team, led by Pramod Mahanta (MD Payback India) and Rijish Raghavan (Chief Executive Officer at Payback India), will be working closely with Gautam Kaushik to build a new version of Payback India. Notably, Kaushik was the CEO and MD of Payback India prior to joining BharatPe in February this year. The company (Payback India) will continue operating under its current name and there will be no impact on the existing customer and partner relationships with Payback India that will continue to roll out initiatives for customers across India, the statement noted. "With the acquisition of Payback India, we will be able to add a whole new dimension to our merchant value proposition. In addition to the range of payment and credit products which BharatPe offers to help merchants scale their business, we will also be able to drive more consumers to their stores," BharatPe co-founder and CEO Ashneer Grover said. He added that the company is committed to build India's largest and most engaged merchant network and this acquisition will be a "game-changer" in that regard. It processes over 10 crore UPI transactions per month (annualised Transaction Processed Value of more than USD 10 billion) and facilitated disbursement of loans totaling to over Rs 1,600 crores to its merchants since launch.
