Mumbai: Indian stock markets rallied on Monday after the <keyword id="20032950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP-led-government" source="keywords">BJP-led government</keyword> secured a majority in the latest state elections in Maharashtra. The <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> index gained more than 1.45 per cent or 346.30 points to open at 24,253.55 points, while the BSE <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> index surged 1,076 points or 1.36 percent to open at 80,193.47 points. Experts noted that the election results have an impact on the markets today, and if past trends are followed, the markets may witness some rally amid the return of the BJP in the Maharashtra state elections. <keyword id="20161891" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajay-Bagga" source="keywords">Ajay Bagga</keyword> Banking and Market Expert stated that "The just concluded elections in Maharashtra, the results of which were declared on November 23rd, will have a positive immediate impact on the stock markets. The landslide win for the BJP lead coalition in the Maharashtra state elections could lead to a short-term boost to the Indian stock markets which have been in a declining mode" He further added "Investors will interpret this mandate as favourable for the capex and infrastructure push that is ongoing in Maharashtra. The beneficiary sectors of this election are industrials, infrastructure, manufacturing, real estate and financials". In the sectoral indices on the National Stock Exchange, <keyword id="20065014" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-Realty" source="keywords">Nifty Realty</keyword> and <keyword id="19941314" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-PSU-Bank" source="keywords">Nifty PSU Bank</keyword> rallied with a surge of more than 2 percent, while other major indices also gained more than 1.5 per cent, including Nifty Metal, Nifty Media, and Nifty Oil &amp; Gas. In the Nifty 50 list, 49 stocks gained during the opening session, while only one stock declined. Shri Finance opened as the top gainer in the Nifty 50. The shares of the AdGroup also surged around 2 percent at the time of filing this report. <keyword id="19967296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Green" source="keywords">Adani Green</keyword> also climbed around 4 percent. "We are most likely to break the falling 20-day average that lies at 24,030, which will be the first time that'd happen since the record high of 27th September. Seasonality trends between now and the end of the year have been historically positive, with the Nifty rising 80% of the time during this period with an average return of over 4 per cent" Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research, Axis Securities. In other Asian markets, Japan and South Korea indices rallied. The Nikkei 225 index surged more than 1.5 percent, South Korea's Kospi also rose by 1.5 percent, Taiwan's Weighted Index was up by 0.48 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down marginally by 0.14 percent at the time of filing this report.

New Delhi: Life Insurance Corporation of India (<keyword id="19903588" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="LIC" source="keywords">LIC</keyword>) has increased its stake in <keyword id="19984004" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-of-Maharashtra" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Bank of Maharashtra" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Bank of Maharashtra">Bank of Maharashtra</keyword>, the company informed the exchange in a filing. In an official statement on Saturday, LIC announced that it has raised its shareholding in the bank from 4.05 per cent to 7.10 per cent following a <keyword id="19984002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qualified-Institutional-Placement" source="keywords">Qualified Institutional Placement</keyword> (<keyword id="19984001" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QIP" source="keywords">QIP</keyword>). "..the Life Insurance Corporation of India ("the Corporation") has increased its shareholding in Bank of Maharashtra ("Company") from 4.05 per cent (pre-allotment) to 7.10 per cent (post allotment)" said LIC. The increased shareholding comes after LIC was allotted 25.96 crore equity shares as part of the QIP issued by the Bank of Maharashtra. Prior to this allotment, LIC held a 4.05 per cent stake in the bank. With the new shares, LIC now owns a 7.10 per cent stake, marking a significant rise in its ownership. The allotment was made under the guidelines of Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations. LIC noted that it has complied with the regulatory requirements, including the details stipulated under the SEBI circular issued in July 2023, which governs disclosure obligations for listed entities. A Qualified Institutional Placement is a way for listed companies to raise capital by issuing equity shares to institutional investors, and this transaction indicates LIC's confidence in the growth potential of Bank of Maharashtra. Bank of Maharashtra is one of the public sector banks, and this infusion of capital through QIP will help strengthen its balance sheet and support its expansion plans.

Forex traders said the <keyword id="21663515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSCI-equity-index" source="keywords">MSCI equity index</keyword> rebalancing significantly boosted sentiment for Indian equity markets as <keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword> broke a 40-session streak of net selling by purchasing Rs 9,947 crores on Monday, lending robust support to the rupee. Moreover, the win by the incumbent government in Maharashtra, further fueled investor confidence in economic stability, sparking a rally in equity markets. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 84.27 and moved in a tight range and touched an early high of 84.22 against the greenback, registering a gain of 7 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee appreciated 12 paise to close at 84.29 against US dollar. "While Donald Trump's aggressive trade policies loom large, the rupee's outlook remains cautiously optimistic. Pabari further said that the RBI's vigilant stance will be critical in managing volatility, with interventions likely at key levels to maintain stability. "Given the factors, the USDINR pair appears to face resistance around the 84.50 level, with expectations of trading within a range of 83.80 to 84.50, leaning toward a downside bias," he said. On the global front, US Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent's fiscal deficit reduction agenda capped US Treasury yields, Pabari said. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading higher by 0.28 per cent at 107.11. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose by 0.33 per cent to USD 73.25 per barrel in futures trade. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share equity benchmark Sensex jumped 167.76 points or 0.21 per cent to 80,277.61 points in early trade, while Nifty jumped 55.80 points or 0.23 per cent to 24,277.70 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in the capital markets on Monday, purchasing shares worth Rs 9,947.55 crore, according to exchange data. Rupee rises 7 paise to 84.22 against US dollar in early trade

Capital markets regulator <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sebi" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Sebi" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Sebi">SEBI</keyword> has put on hold the proposed Rs 4,000-crore initial <keyword id="21443197" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-offering" source="keywords">public offering</keyword> (<keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPO" source="keywords">IPO</keyword>) of <keyword id="21741786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JSW-Cement" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="JSW Cement" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="JSW Cement">JSW Cement</keyword>. Without specifying reasons, SEBI stated that the "issuance of observations (has been) kept in abeyance," according to an update on its website on Monday. JSW Cement, part of the diversified <keyword id="20099967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jsw-group" source="keywords">JSW Group</keyword>, filed the preliminary IPO papers with SEBI on August 16. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the tune of Rs 800 crore will be used for partially financing the establishment of a new integrated <keyword id="23013063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cement-unit" source="keywords">cement unit</keyword> in Nagaur, Rajasthan, while Rs 720 crore will be allocated for payment of debt and the remaining funds will be allocated for general corporate purposes. JSW Cement, which has a manufacturing capacity of 19 MT annually, aims to achieve the capacity of 60 MTPA. It currently has manufacturing units at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, Salboni in West Bengal, Jajpur in Odisha and Dolvi in Maharashtra. Besides, JSW Cement through its subsidiary Shiva Cement operates a clinker unit in Odisha. JSW Group has business interests in sectors such as steel, energy, maritime infrastructure, defence, B2B e-commerce, realty, paints, sports and venture capital. JM Financial Ltd, Axis Capital Ltd, Citigroup Global Markets India Private Ltd, DAM Capital Advisors Ltd, Goldman Sachs (India) Securities Private Ltd, Jefferies India Private Ltd, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company Ltd and SBI Capital Markets Ltd are responsible for managing the company's IPO process.

The benchmark index, <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword>, ended 33.48 points lower at 76,456.59, while the <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> inched up by 5.65 points to close at 23,264.85. Despite the lacklustre overall market performance, the Construction, Automobile, and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks sectors were the standout performers. Throughout the trading day, the Sensex and Nifty displayed mixed signals, with the benchmark indices maintaining steady gains during intra-day trading. Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 5 (ANI): <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> Governor Shaktikanta Das will announce the outcome of the first <keyword id="6375120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monetary-Policy-Committee" source="Orion">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword> (MPC) meeting of the financial year 2024-2025 on Friday. The central banking authority of India has kept the <keyword id="43352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="repo-rate" source="Orion">repo rate</keyword> unchanged for the last six consecutive MPC meetings and according to experts it is likely to maintain the status quo on interest rates this time too. The repo rate, is the interest rate at which banks draw funds from <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> to overcome short-term liquidity mismatches. Monetary Policy Committee was constituted under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. MPC is a six-member committee comprising three members from RBI including Governor Shaktikanta Das and three members appointed by the Central government. The two-day review meeting of the MPC that commenced on April 3 concludes today. The RBI had maintained the status quo on policy rates and stances in its last review, which was held in February 2024. The decision however was not unanimous and one member has recommended a rate cut of 25 basis points and policy change stand to neutral. Since the last policy, rating agencies have revised India's growth forecast upwards. <keyword id="7706673" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Minister-Nirmala-Sitharaman" source="Orion">Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, recently said that India will grow over 8 per cent in FY24. Inflation has dropped and has remained under the range of comfort zone. Consumer Price Index inflation was 5.1 per cent in February 2024, up from over 5.5 per cent in December 2023. The core CPI inflation, excluding food and beverages, was at a low of 3.5 per cent in February 2024. However, food inflation at above 7 per cent was a concern, but with a recent cut in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, it is likely to further fall in March and may come below 5 per cent. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) recent announcement of above-normal temperatures during April-June may be a concern regarding rise in prices of vegetable, fruits and other perishable items. Also prices of rice, pulses have shown an upward trend which may be a concern for the MPC while taking a decision. However, softening prices of non-food items will give some relief to the committee. Generally, normal monsoons follow above normal temperatures, presuming that the average CPI inflation is likely to be in the RBI's comfort zone of 4-6 per cent in FY25. According to official data, retail inflation in India eased a tad in February to 5.09 per cent from 5.10 per cent the prior month, due to the deceleration of prices in all categories except food. Experts believe that the RBI is unlikely to change its policy stance before the August 2024 MPC review and any rate cut is unlikely before that. The US Fed has also recently indicated that it is not in a hurry to cut rates. All these suggest that the RBI, too, is unlikely to go for a rate cut before the October 2024 policy. The next MPC meetings of the RBI have been scheduled this year for June, August, October, December and February 2025.
