According to a press release, the total consideration for this order is approximately Rs 981.45 Crores. The execution period for this contract spans from August 2024 to August 2025. MSRTC operates a fleet of over 15,000 buses. With this substantial order, Ashok Leyland buses will now dominate its fleet. These modern, fully built buses will comply with the latest Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) standards and feature AIS 153 compliant bodies. The order, awarded by the domestic entity MSRTC, is for the supply of BSVI OBD II Diesel Fuel Type Fully Built Passenger Buses. MSRTC, one of India's largest state transport undertakings, operates a fleet of over 15,000 buses. With this substantial order, Ashok Leyland buses will now dominate its fleet. These modern, fully built buses will comply with the latest Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) standards and feature AIS 153 compliant bodies. They will also be equipped with the proven iGEN6 BS VI OBD II technology, boasting a 197 HP H-Series Engine and Rear Air Suspension, among other advanced features. The buses will be manufactured at Ashok Leyland's exclusive bus body plants using state-of-the-art technology, ensuring enhanced safety, improved comfort, and a lower total cost of ownership for MSRTC. Ashok Leyland bags single largest order of 2,104 fully built buses from Maharashtra government

As part of his ambition to make <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> a green economy, Union minister <keyword id="19897455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nitin-gadkari" source="keywords">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> wants to slash GST on hybrid vehicles and has vowed to rid the country entirely of the over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. "One hundred per cent," <keyword id="19934966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gadkari" source="keywords">Gadkari</keyword>, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said when asked whether it is possible for India to get rid of petrol and diesel cars altogether. "It is difficult but not impossible. This is my vision," Gadkari said in an interview to PTI. He said India spends Rs 16 lakh crore on fuel imports. This money will be used for improving the life of farmers, villages will be prosperous and the youth will get employment, the minister said. Gadkari did not give any timeline to meet this ambitious target which even proponents of green energy believe is mind bogglingly difficult. The proposal to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles to five per cent and to 12 per cent for flex engines has been sent to the Finance ministry which is considering the requisition, Gadkari said. The minister said he firmly believes the country can end fuel import by promoting the use of biofuels. Environmental activists welcomed Gadkari's vision for increasing green mobility, but also struck a word of caution by flagging the use of fossil fuels in the production of electricity. "In India, we are still heavily dependent on a fossil fuel-based energy system to power electric cars, and this needs to be changed. There is urgent need to ensure 100 per cent renewable energy alongside electric vehicles to tackle the climate crisis," <keyword id="21152150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="avinash-chanchal" source="keywords">Avinash Chanchal</keyword>, a campaigner for Greenpeace India, told PTI. Gadkari said he has been pitching for alternative fuels since 2004 and is confident things will change in the coming five to seven years. "I cannot give you a date and year for this transformation to take place as it is very difficult. This is difficult but not impossible," Gadkari asserted. He said he firmly believes that given the speed with which electric vehicles are being introduced, the coming era will be of alternative and biofuels and this dream will come true. Gadkari said auto companies such as Bajaj, TVS and Hero are also planning to manufacture motorcycles using flex engines and auto rickshaws using similar technology too were on the way. "I roam around in a car that runs on hydrogen. You can see electric cars in every other household. People who used to say this was impossible, have changed their views now and started believing in what I have been saying for the last 20 years," the minister said. Gadkari vows to eliminate petrol, diesel vehicles in India, bats for lower tax for hybrid cars

New Delhi, Commercial vehicle major <keyword id="6357085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Leyland" source="Orion">Ashok Leyland</keyword> on Thursday said it has bagged an order to supply 552 buses from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC). The ultra-low entry (ULE) buses would be used for public transport, the company said in a statement. Ashok Leyland has been a long-standing supplier of buses to TNSTC, having supplied over 18,477 buses till date. "This order reinforces our dedication to creating very efficient and technologically advanced products that exceed our customer expectations and contribute to the growth of public transportation," Ashok Leyland Managing Director &amp; CEO Shenu Agarwal said. The Hinduja Group flagship said it will commence the delivery of the buses within the next few months.

Ashok Leyland bags order for 552 buses from Tamil Nadu transport entity

Commercial vehicle maker <keyword id="6357085" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ashok-leyland" source="Orion">Ashok Leyland</keyword> on Thursday said its profit after tax nearly tripled to Rs 561 crore in September quarter 2023-24. In the year-ago period, the PAT was Rs 199.31 crore. Revenues during the quarter under review rose to Rs 9,638 crore from Rs 8,266 crore in the second quarter of FY23, the company said in a statement. It said EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation) for the quarter was Rs 1,080 crore as against Rs 537 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY23. Net debt stood at Rs 1,139 crore at the end of the second quarter, it said. The domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) sales stood at 29,947 units, up 18% from the second quarter of the previous fiscal, which is in line with industry growth. Light commercial vehicle (LCV) volume was at 16,998 units compared to 17,040 LCVs sold in the same period last year, Ashok Leyland said. Export volumes for the quarter (MHCV &amp; LCV) were 4% higher at 2,901 units from the year-ago period despite multiple socio-political challenges across the globe. The company said while its overall MHCV MS is moving in the right direction, it significantly increased its bus market share, making it the top bus manufacturer in the country. "We have grown and grown profitability. The second half of the year appears to have the twin tailwinds of demand growth and softer commodity prices which should improve the profitability of the industry," Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ashok Leyland, said. This is the third consecutive quarter of double-digit EBITDA, he said, adding that there is tremendous focus on margin enhancement, network expansion, operational efficiency, cost optimisation and deployment of digital as an enabler for growth and productivity. There is an enhanced thrust to grow all non-MHCV businesses as well and "we expect to see the benefits of all of this in the coming quarters," he added. Further, the company said that its all other businesses posted good growth in the current quarter and added that it expanded its MHCV range by launching new products in tipper, tractor and MAV categories. The focus on expansion of the distribution network continued with further addition of 47 touch points in the quarter, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the country, it said. "We continue to see strong demand in all segments of trucks and passenger vehicles. The industry continues to post strong growth, on the back of strong macroeconomic factors and we are confident that FY24 will see further growth in the second half as well," <keyword id="454707" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dheeraj-hinduja" source="Orion">Dheeraj Hinduja</keyword>, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, said. In the passenger vehicle segment, various carmakers including Maruti Suzuki India and Honda have already stopped manufacturing diesel cars. Gadkari said the contribution of diesel cars has already come down drastically in the country and the manufacturers need to stop selling them in the market. Terming diesel as a hazardous fuel, he noted that the country has to import the fuel to meet the demand. "Say goodbye to diesel... Please stop making them, otherwise we will just increase the tax so much that it would become difficult to sell diesel cars" Gadkari said. He said he will propose additional GST on diesel-powered generators as well. Automobiles are currently taxed at 28% GST, with additional cess ranging from 1% to 22% depending on the type of vehicle. Auto stocks recover after Gadkari clarifies his '10% additional GST on diesel vehicles' comment

The <keyword id="23021375" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-passenger-vehicle-industry" source="keywords">domestic passenger vehicle industry</keyword> volumes declined by low single digit in August 2024 as compared with August 2023, because of weak retail demand trends and higher <keyword id="21396778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="inventory-levels" source="keywords">inventory levels</keyword> at the dealerships according to Kotak Institutional Equities. The report suggests that the major reason for the sluggishness in sales of tractors is the uneven spatial distribution of rainfall, particularly in northern and eastern regions. It also highlights that growth will pick up in the coming months on the back of <keyword id="23021373" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="improved-monsoon" source="keywords">improved monsoon</keyword> conditions. The upcoming festive season will also improve the situation as traditionally it is a peak period for auto sales. Strong festive demand could help offset some of the losses experienced in the first half of the fiscal year. The weak wholesale figures in August were driven by private vehicles (PV), commercial vehicles (CV) and tractor original equipment manufacturers (OEM). Retail sales declined in single digits (yoy) for most of the companies. The PV segment saw a low single-digit decline in domestic wholesale volumes year-on-year (YoY) in August 2024, driven by weak retail demand and elevated inventory levels at dealerships, which stood at approximately 70 days. The retail sales fell by mid-single digits YoY during the month. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest player in the segment, reported a 4 per cent YoY drop in total volumes, including a 5 per cent decline in domestic sales but it was partially offset by a 6 per cent rise in the export volumes. MSIL's wholesale market share is estimated to have slipped by 250 basis points YoY to approximately 40.5-4 per cent says the report. Other major players also faced challenges in sales. Tata Motors recorded a 3 per cent YoY decrease in PV volumes, while Hyundai Motors reported an 8 per cent drop. However, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) bucked the trend with a 16 per cent YoY increase in PV volumes, and Toyota India posted a significant 37 per cent YoY growth on low volumes. Kia and MG Motors also experienced an uptick in sales. The two-wheeler (2W) segment showed resilience with high single-digit YoY growth in domestic wholesale volumes, largely driven by channel filling ahead of the festive season. Retail sales of the internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers grew by mid-single digits YoY, while electric two-wheeler (EV 2W) sales surged by 41 per cent YoY, propelled by new mass-market EV launches and attractive discounts. Among the key players, Hero MotoCorp (HMCL) saw a 5 per cent YoY rise in volumes, and TVS Motor reported a robust 14 per cent YoY increase, with growth in both domestic and export segments. Bajaj Auto's volumes grew by 18 per cent YoY, driven primarily by domestic sales. However, Royal Enfield faced a 5 per cent YoY decline in volumes. Going forward, the report highlighted that the Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment underperformed during the month, with domestic volumes declining by low double digits YoY, primarily due to weakness in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (MHCV) truck and Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segments. Tata Motors experienced a 15 per cent YoY drop in domestic CV volumes, with sharp declines in Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) cargo (down 23 per cent) and MHCV trucks (down 15 per cent). Ashok Leyland also reported a 7 per cent YoY decline in CV volumes, while VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) managed a modest 1 per cent YoY increase. In August, the domestic tractor segment remained flat YoY with volumes coming in 5-6 per cent. During this period, M&amp;M's tractor volumes grew by 1 per cent YoY, while Escort Kubota's volumes remained unchanged compared to the same period last year. The report says that strong festive demand could help offset some of the losses experienced in the first half of the fiscal year, particularly if economic conditions and consumer sentiment improve.

Auto Industry sales to surge on the back of improved monsoon, festive season demands: Report

The Chennai-based commercial vehicle maker had reported a net profit of Rs 68 crore in Q1FY23, as per a company statement. Revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 8,189 crore, as against Rs 7,223 crore in the first quarter of the previous fiscal. The company's domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) volume grew 7 per cent during the quarter under review and the market share grew to 31.2 per cent from 30 per cent, Ashok Leyland said. The domestic light commercial vehicles volume in Q1 FY'24 stood at 14,821 units, registering a growth of three per cent over 14,384 units a year ago, the company said. "With the industry maintaining the growth in Q1 FY '24, we have been able to post excellent results with focused market performance while reining in costs. We have continued to grow our market share in Q1," said Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman, Ashok Leyland. The company is concurrently intensifying its efforts in international expansion, he said, adding, "through our electric vehicle subsidiary, Switch Mobility, we are actively moving towards net zero carbon mobility." According to the company, EBITDA grew 10 per cent to Rs 821 crore for the reporting quarter, as against 4.4 per cent (Rs 320 crore) in the year-ago period. Tax expense for the quarter was lower as it considers a one-time deferred tax credit of Rs 172 crore on account of expected transition to lower tax regime in the following financial year, the company said. The net debt-to-equity stood at 0.2 times at the end of Q1FY24, Ashok Leyland said. "With expansion in revenues and efficient cost management we have seen our bottom line improving substantially. "While we continue to expand our market penetration on the back of efficient products and expanding the network, we shall remain acutely focused on achieving and sustaining double-digit profitability," said Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO at Ashok Leyland.

Ashok Leyland Q1 2023-24 net profit jumps over eight fold to Rs 576 cr

The contracts awarded also include the procurement of the Field Artillery Tractor (FAT 4x4) and the Gun Towing Vehicle (GTV 6x6), Ashok Leyland said in a statement. "We have secured these orders from the Indian Army. The Defence business has been a strong pillar of growth for us, and this win further establishes our leadership in Defence mobility vehicles business," said Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Ashok Leyland. The vehicles will be delivered over the next 12 months to meet the requirements of the Indian Army, the company said. The FAT 4x4 and GTV 6x6 are specialised vehicles employed by the artillery for towing light and medium guns, respectively, according to the company. "Ashok Leyland's dependable mobility solutions have consistently remained a formidable asset within the defense sector, catering to the diverse needs of personnel and logistics across the armed forces," said Amandeep Singh, President for Defence Business at Ashok Leyland. Ashok Leyland has invested in development of mobility platforms ranging from 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, 10x10 &amp; 12x12 for various applications and operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, he stated. Ashok Leyland logs Rs 68 cr net in Q1

In a statement issued here, <keyword id="6357085" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ashok-leyland">Ashok Leyland</keyword> said the order encompasses the company's model Ecomet over the next 5-6 months. "Over the last few years, Ashok Leyland has made significant efforts to increase its market share in the ICV segment and our efforts have given rich dividends," Anuj Kathuria, Chief Operating Officer, Ashok Leyland said. There were 157 new Covid-19 deaths reported, including 107 in Victoria and 22 in New South Wales, reports <keyword id="106387" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="xinhua-news-agency" source="Orion">Xinhua news agency</keyword>. The new figure takes Australia's overall Covid death toll to 11,669, of which almost 10,000 have occurred in 2022. Figures published by the Guardian Australia on Friday revealed the country has one of the highest coronavirus death rates among Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations. The seven-day average of deaths per million residents was 2.77 in the week to Wednesday, trailing only New Zealand and Norway. Australia on Friday reported more than 40,000 new Covid-19 cases, taking the overall to 9,326,212. According to <keyword id="205014" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="department-of-health" source="Orion">Department of Health</keyword> data, there were 5,245 cases being treated in hospitals.
