Sebi on Thursday barred 31 entities, including actor <keyword id="20399" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="arshad-warsi" source="Orion">Arshad Warsi</keyword>, his wife <keyword id="995" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maria-goretti" source="Orion">Maria Goretti</keyword> and promoters of <keyword id="11249" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="sadhna" source="Orion">Sadhna</keyword> Broadcast from the securities market in a case related to uploading misleading videos on YouTube channels recommending investors to buy the company's shares. The company's promoters who have been restrained from the securities market for their involvement are - <keyword id="1569219" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shreya-gupta" source="Orion">Shreya Gupta</keyword>, Gaurav Gupta, Saurabh Gupta, Pooja Aggarwal and Varun Media. In addition, the regulator has impounded illegal gains to the tune of Rs 41.85 crore made by the entities after misleading videos were uploaded on YouTube channels. SEBI noted that Arshad Warsi has made a profit of Rs 29.43 lakh and his wife has earned a profit of Rs 37.56 lakh. The order came after <keyword id="6355630" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="securities-and-exchange-board-of-india" source="Orion">Securities and Exchange Board of India</keyword> (SEBI) received certain complaints wherein it was alleged that there was price manipulation and offloading of shares by certain entities in the scrip of television channel Sadhna Broadcast. The complaints alleged that misleading YouTube videos with false content about the company were uploaded to lure investors. Following this, the regulator conducted an examination during April-September 2022 and found a spurt in the price and volume of scrip of Sadhna between April and mid-July 2022. During the second half of July 2022, false and misleading videos about Sadhna were uploaded on two YouTube channels -- "The Advisor" and "Moneywise". These YouTube videos peddled false and misleading news to recommend that investors should buy the Sadhna stock for extraordinary profits, SEBI said in its interim order. Subsequent to the release of the misleading YouTube videos, there was an increase in the price and trading volume of the Sadhna scrip. The volumes appear to have been contributed by a large number of retail investors likely influenced by the misleading YouTube videos. During this period, certain promoter shareholders, key management personnel of Sadhna, and non-promoter shareholders offloaded a significant part of their holdings at inflated prices and booked profits. One of the misleading videos on these YouTube channels was that Sadhna Broadcast Ltd is going to be taken over by the Adani group. After the deal, the margins of the company will increase. In addition, there were other videos like the company is moving from TV production to movie production and a big American corporation has entered into a contract for Rs 1,100 crore to produce four devotional movies where the money will be brought in by the American investor but the rights will remain with Sadhna. SEBI has classified these 31 entities into categories -- creator of YouTube channels (Manish Mishra), net sellers/ promoters and profit makers (NSs), Volume Creators (VCs) and information carriers (ICs). Arshad Warsi and his wife come in the category of Volume Creators. SEBI noted that these 31 entities collectively helped create trading volumes and interest in the scrip, spread false and misleading YouTube videos, and hence induced unsuspecting investors to buy the Sadhna scrip at elevated prices, thereby prima facie violating the provisions of PFUTP (Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices) rules. Collectively, NSs and some of the VCs have booked extraordinary profits as a result of this scheme. "I note that the elaborate modus operandi adopted by the Noticees (31 entities) including the egregious misuse of patently false and misleading YouTube videos, had led to drastic increase in the number of small shareholders (from 2,167 to 55,343 shareholders), who ended up buying shares from the noticee net sellers and volume creators at inflated price," SEBI Whole Time Member Ananth Narayan G said in his 58-page order. Accordingly, the regulator has barred these 31 entities "from buying, selling or dealing in securities either directly or indirectly, in any manner whatsoever until further orders". Also, all the entities have been directed not to dispose of any assets, whether movable or immovable including money lying in bank accounts except with the prior permission of SEBI until the impounded amount is deposited in the escrow account. SEBI bans Sadhna Broadcast's promoters, actor Arshad Warsi, others from securities mkt

Mumbai, Apr 5 () While film stars have always had a huge influence on people, politicians in the country need to emerge as role models in times of crisis, believes actor Arshad Warsi.Citing the example of Janata Curfew, Arshad said many actors had urged their fans to not step out of their homes, but it didn't help.Via Janata Curfew, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked people to come to their balconies and clap to pay tributes to the healthcare workers, police force and other essential service providers working tirelessly as India fights the coronavirus pandemic.The actor said people tend to listen more to their leaders than cine stars."It is important for an actor to be a role model, as much as possible, and I must say that they are. Most of the actors and including myself, we urged everyone not to come out and start celebrating after the Janata Curfew was over. But unfortunately, that's exactly what everyone did."The fact is people don't listen to actors, they listen to politicians. More than actors, it is the politicians who need to be role models," Arshad told .A day after Janata Curfew on March 22, the prime minister announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown.Arshad, 51, said during his time at home, he is working on a few scripts which he intends to direct someday."Creatively, there is a lot to do from home. I am working on scripts that I would like to direct. Besides, I am helping out on the scripts that I am acting in, reading scripts that have been given to me."The actor added self-isolation is not a challenge for him as he prefers to stay at home. "All my friends know that this is how I spend most of my time in isolation. I like to work and I like to stay home. I don't overburden myself with work and I barely socialise. Just two days before release, ‘Udta Punjab’, was leaked online. Phantom Films has filed a copyright theft case with the cybercrime cell. It is being speculated that the copy that was submitted to the censor board was uploaded on various torrentz sites. 
 
The download links were removed later owing to copyright complaint. 
 
Following the piracy issue, Bollywood celebrities have come out in support of the movie, urging fans to watch it in theatres. 
 
From Aamir Khan to Bipasha Basu, Bollywood actors and actresses took to Twitter and backed Udta Punjab’s star cast and decried piracy.

OTT releases to watch for June, 2023

The movie is based on the rape of an underage girl by a self-styled godman. The victim in the movie is denied justice as bribes, threats and more make it tough for the teenager to get justice, until Bajpayee’s character Solanki enters the scene. The lawyer from Jodhpur fights off a battery of great legal minds to navigate a controversial case under the POSCO Act. "It is an eye opener that way and our focus is mostly on the security and safety and protection of the child, which is an issue which is very close to my heart - always been," Bajpayee said about the movie in an interview. Affable lawyers with twisted minds Solanki’s character, based on a real-life model, brings forth the struggles of the legal system in India. But it’s not the only one, especially on OTT. Yet another celebrated actor, Pankaj Tripathi plays Madhav Mishra, an affable-yet-brilliant lawyer from Mumbai who investigates his cases closely in Criminal Justice on Hotstar. The genius underdog also takes up controversial cases like defending a drug-addict teenager accused of murdering his sister, a woman who murdered her husband, and also a cab driver accused of rape and murder of his client —- across three seasons. Tripathi says that his character is based on aam aadmi, who mixes humour with common sense. “His behaviour, mannerisms, sense of timing and body language all make him easy to understand and relate to. This is why viewers connect with him so much,” he <a href="https://www.zoomtventertainment.com/web-series/pankaj-tripathi-describes-his-criminal-justice-character-madhav-mishra-as-aam-aadmi-article-93644834">said in an interview</a>. Amazon Prime also brought Indian law firm politics to the fore, with Guilty Minds starring Shriya Pilgaonkar. Like most American series, it takes us through a variety of cases on dating apps to cola giants — navigated by lawyers with twisted agendas and sharp comebacks. Legal dramas keep it real While the US has many legal dramas to boast be it the super-hit Suits, Boston Legal or The Good Wife and its spinoff, Indian screens have been a late entrant into this genre in spite of a brilliant start in the 80s with Ek Ruka Hua Faisla. The movie starring Pankaj Kapoor brings the story of the now-abandoned jury system in India, as they discuss the depths of a case where a young teen from a slum stabs his father. Later, in addition to a few movies with courtroom scenes, few full fledged legal movies made their mark, with a few exceptions like Sunny Deol’s strongman cum lawyer in Damini. Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar both played the titular roles in Jolly LLB series — as not-so-clean lawyers who had their hearts at the right place. Kumar however headlined another movie Rustom which is based on the highly publicized K M Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra court case from the 50s. The case also inspired another web series named 'The Verdict – State vs Nanavati’ on AltBalaji. In fact, most legal dramas in India have mimicked real life like No One Killed Jessica, starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee. Tamil film Jai Bhim which stars Surya also mimics the real life activist and lawyer Justice K Chandru who had worked for the downtrodden. India with its history of delayed yet sensational court cases offers a lot of fodder for fiction, and OTT which is unafraid of diving into the realm of controversy is now bringing a lot of it to screens. Well, it pays to be a hero. Because then, you don’t have to speak much. You can only wear your shades and look like you are actually mourning. Your fans will shed the tears for you, and dry their own; celebrate the fact that your bloody eyes are hiding well behind the dark UV-protected glasses that could have cost a small country’s entire GDP. Well, when you are ‘Bhai’ with a large heart, your own largesse and being ‘at large’ is just something you often do. 
 But, look this way. Salman may be out on bail. And, chances are when you hire a <keyword id="6356325" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lawyer">lawyer</keyword> like Harish Salve, you may never ever (just as assertively as Arnab Goswamy says) and NEVER EVER have to even visit the prison again, let alone spending a few days there. You can entirely forget about spending the sentence duration. Five years? Are you kidding us? Well, well, who told those lowly labourers to sleep on the <keyword id="6429269" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pavement">pavement</keyword> for god’s sake? 
 What, wait! <keyword id="51958" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="YES">Yes</keyword>, why do majority of Mumbai’s labourers sleep on the pavement and get run over by cars? Do we know something about the man who died? Where was he working? Who had hired him? What was he working as? Did we hear anybody claim he was family or even a hired help? 
 
The problem with a large migrant city like Mumbai is, life is cheap and death? That’s even cheaper. A working man, so long as he is working, is worth some value in currency. When he becomes a liability, there is no mercy left. Didn’t the city authorities run a background check into those labourers? Why they were not provided some shelter by whoever was using their services? 
 Why have we become so complacent about people who slave themselves and waste away on footpaths and pavements? Remember <keyword id="20399" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arshad-Warsi">Arshad Warsi</keyword>’s ‘Jolly LLB’? There is a touching scene in the film when while arguing for a poor labourer who died, and others who were injured and silenced by the system, Warsi stands up for them. He is chided by his opponent who says the fault is of those who sleep on the footpaths. Because they are not meant for sleeping. 
 Four stars for the <keyword id="202636" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="script-writer">script writer</keyword> who says “Yes, the footpaths are not for sleeping. But they are not for driving either!” Applause! Applause! 
The film wastes a golden opportunity to throw light on another aspect. That of migration labourers. Where do they come from? Who are they? Why do they live a lowly life? 
 
Reality is, they come to toil in our houses. Build our gated communities, with swimming pool, club house and shopping mall. They never get to even understand what goes on inside these swanky places. They are the forbidden clan. They are apologies to the society. They are embarrassments which have to be swept under the carpet. 
 
Because, unless they are dead, their existence has no value. And once they are dead, they just remain statistics. Nothing more, nothing less. Authorities will not even feel guilty about having murdered them. 
 In more ways than one, Salman is not the only ‘Macbeth’ in Bollywood with bloody hands. There are more like him. Whether it is Bacchan’s relative <keyword id="45587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjeev-Nanda">Sanjeev Nanda</keyword>, industrialist Mahendra Khatau’s son <keyword id="34" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manish">Manish</keyword>, <keyword id="38810" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hairdresser">hairdresser</keyword> Nooriya Haveliwalla, or <keyword id="271" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="actor">actor</keyword> <keyword id="6357789" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajkumar">Rajkumar</keyword>’s son <keyword id="129043" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Puru">Puru</keyword> – they are lucky because they could buy lawyers. And the poor dead souls who died under these people’s rich didn’t have the luck smiling by them.
