The round also saw participation from existing investors such as Saama Capital and DSG Consumer Partners. Supertails.com was founded in 2021 by Varun Sadana, Aman Tekriwal, and <keyword id="5014857" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vineet-khanna" source="Orion">Vineet Khanna</keyword> to address the needs of first-time pet owners. The platform has now become a pet-care focused ecommerce marketplace for pet supplies, pet training and online vet consultations across the country. The company has already completed over 20,000 pet consultations and offers over 10,000 products from over 200 brand partners. “At Supertails.com, our vision is to create a platform that makes their (pet parents) lives easier. From providing pet nutrition to round-the-clock pet care and consultation, our aim is to build a platform that integrates products, services, and communities,” said Supertails.com co-founders Varun Sadana, Aman Tekriwal, and Vineet Khanna. The round also saw investment from angels such as Cred founder Kunal Shah, MamaEarth co-founder Varun Alagh, Genesis Luxury Fashion president <keyword id="3799" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-kapoor" source="Orion">Sanjay Kapoor</keyword>, Curefoods founder Ankit Nagori and The Whole Truth Foods founder <keyword id="274057" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shashank-mehta" source="Orion">Shashank Mehta</keyword>. “With this round of funding, we want to invest in making a one-stop platform for pet parents that caters to all their needs. We are thrilled to have the support of Fireside Ventures, Saama Capital, and DSG consumer partners in this journey and aim to leverage their expertise to become the most preferred and loved pet-care platform in India,” the trio added. Supertails.com plans on using the raised funds to scale its tech infra and launch its mobile application. The company is also expanding its newly launched brand Henlo, which currently sells diet enhancers for dogs. Pet-care startup Supertails.com raises $10 million in Series A funding

Sanjay Mehta has been a ‘full-time investor’ since the past four years before quitting his last entrepreneurial venture. He loves entrepreneurship for its process, “I really enjoy ‘proxy entrepreneurship’, which means that I can enable many people to start their ventures and help them create a stable business,’’ he says.

Mehta is excited about the business building process and thinks that the best part about starting a business is seeing it grow from seed stage to $2-5 million businesses where you enjoy the journey of creating something that has its own identity. He also believes that this is the hardest part, “Their sheer enthusiasm rubs off on me and I learn a lot by listening to their ideas. I get personal gratification by seeing them give in to their belief and giving up the best years of their lives,” he says, at peace. 
 
With 66 start-up portfolio companies namely Zippr, Box8, WowMomos, AdstringO, UnBxd, Consure Medical Device, Oyo Rooms, PrettySecrets.com, Letsventure.com, MechMocha, Faballey.com, PayTunes, LogiNext, RepUp, Adsparx, Ecosense, PeeBuddy and more; Mehta is a regular target for aspiring founders and more so after his successful exit from Oyo Rooms whose founder Ritesh Aggarwal, became famous for being a 21-year old founder. 
 
From an exit perspective, Oyo was the biggest exit for any Indian angel investor at 280 x of the investment made which was last year. He is very practical with his investments and thinks that a 100 x exit from a start-up is successful but that’s not why he does it; he sounds like a proud parent when he talks about his investments.

 He is very practical in his outlook for the start-up ecosystem, “In terms of <keyword id="3003094" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-India">Startup India</keyword>, I don’t think the government has done enough especially to ease the pains of doing business. I’m appreciative of this government because not only have they started a dialogue in the country, they have also started adopting new technologies made in India, at a state and national level which is a supportive move, ”he beams. 
 
Mehta as an investor is bullish about Crypto currency, Universal utilities, FMCG brands that sell online, Medical devices, Pharma, Ed-tech, Media, and entertainment, as sectors and believes that India is on the cusp of innovative products and this is just the beginning. 
Sanjay has a good eye for innovation and thinks product start-ups like Freshdesk and Druva have already started the start-up revolution that is driven by innovative products that will propel India to be world’s start-up destination.

Exclusive: An Angel investor whose Midas touch with Crypto-currency is redefining the future of start-up investments

In exchange for an equity stake in Flipkart, eBay is making a cash investment in and selling it's eBay.in business to Flipkart. eBay.in will continue to operate as an independent entity as a part of Flipkart.

 In the past few months, a lot of things have changed in the internet landscape with low-cost carrier <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> coming in. The Google chief thinks that this has changed things tremendously for the entire telecom sector, “There is now an enormous user base that’s spending its time online, with network providers also upgrading their services and not just giving more for less.  With revolutionary projects like Smart Cities, Google is partnering with the government at <keyword id="3025354" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pune-Smart-City">Pune Smart City</keyword> to provide high-speed Wi-Fi. 
The other concerns are connectivity and affordability and while currently, there at 125 million 4G subscribers and 150 million 3G subscribers, there are still issues like patchy connectivity. 
 Google is trying to get a lot of its services like <keyword id="10879" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="YouTube">YouTube</keyword>, Maps and even Chrome offline to make the internet more accessible to most Indians. There’s Search Lite which detects how slow is your network and works accordingly.

Now there is an Increased pressure on the CEO to deliver the much-awaited Flipkart initial public offering (IPO) in the coming future. 
 <keyword id="6357395" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="eBay">eBay</keyword>, which is also a minority investor in <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, is investing $500 million in Flipkart in this deal, with the acquisition of <keyword id="161767" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="eBay-India">eBay India</keyword> by the behemoth. The value of the Indian unit isn't known but the viability of buying a C2C platform for the biggest B2C business in India points to experimentation on its platform which might not be wise with <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> racing ahead in India. 
 eBay India will continue to operate separately as a unit of Flipkart much like retailers Myntra and <keyword id="6388367" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jabong">Jabong</keyword> and the mobile payments app PhonePe. 
 
Flipkart and Amazon now serious contenders in India’s $15 billion online retail market which might even see the sale of Delhi-based Snapdeal to its biggest competitors if reports are to be believed.

This hastening process still needs to be well-considered by the Bansals who are overlooking the entire ecosystem created by Flipkart.

Sanjay Mehta is popularly known as an angel investor and acts as a mentor to many entrepreneurs, but little is known about how Mehta became the go-to angel investors for many. 
 
He was born in a middle-class Gujarati joint family in Mumbai, and calls himself a ‘first-generation entrepreneur’. He was the first person in his family to take the leap into starting his own business but credits his family for teaching him the art of nurturing relationships with diverse people. 
 
He studied engineering from Mumbai University in 1993 and he was adamant about being an industrialist. 
His first company was Bespoke Software Consultancy, while he was interested in IT, he didn’t want to sell computers, he wanted to sell the software inside them. 
 
The entrepreneur that failed and started again 
 
His first venture was successful, but Sanjay felt the need to get out of the country like his peers albeit it was a short trip. 
 
He went at a time when the dot-com bust was about to happen and his exposure to trending e-commerce at the time propelled him to start a B2B commodity trade portal which failed and he returned in 1999. “I lost everything as investors backed out on the term sheet. I had to start from scratch. I realized that this was going to be a rollercoaster ride,” recalls Sanjay.

 Mehta came back to India in 1999 and went back to the grind and started another ahead-of-its-time company which too shut down. Undeterred he started again with <keyword id="4390649" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="udyog-software-india-ltd">Udyog Software India Ltd</keyword> which was a taxation product company in the year 2000. This third-time-lucky charm turned around things as Sanjay sold the venture to an Indian owned US company in 2004. 
 Mehta started his last company <keyword id="4390651" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="maia-intelligence">MAIA Intelligence</keyword> in 2007 which dealt with business intelligence software and analytics which he sold to Datamatics in 2015. While he was reaping the benefits of the two exits, he invested in real estate which was just in time for the boom.

 Equipped with new found wealth, he decided to look for other areas of investment and entered venture funding with Aditya Birla <keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-equity">Private Equity</keyword> Fund as an LP. He joined Indian Angel Network which was the first angel network and then decided to be an ‘angel’ full time. 
Since the past four years, as a full-time investor, Mehta always wanted to either be an entrepreneur or support one and it all started with him watching his father’s hard work. “My father has always been in the corporate sector and he toiled really hard all his life but he never owned anything. If I’m building something, I thought that I should be the one owning it. That’s why I never applied for a job.”

He shares one instance wherein 1993, as a young lad, he wanted a PC to start his own business that cost up to a Lakh rupees and went to my grandfather to ask for a loan. He suggested visiting a bank, and all the financial institutions shooed him away after which his relatives helped in undersigning for the loan. 
 
The Mumbai-based investor was made to feel the importance of money from the beginning as he paid his own loan installments and it taught him a lot about financial discipline. That’s why Sanjay credits his business learning to his family and his father notably who worked with Fevicol and struck up a business building chord that stuck with him with only one hard and fast rule- ‘Do not innovate in Legal and Finance’.

The CEO of <keyword id="1112419" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stayzilla">Stayzilla</keyword>, an online home-stay aggregator, was locked up in a Chennai jail on March 14 by the Chennai police on charges of ‘fraud’. 
 
This comes after the dismal news of the company shutting shop, recently to “reboot its operations” after the founders decided that their business model wasn’t working, despite 12 years of operations. 
 According to reports, C.S Aditya of Jig Saw Solution and Advertising, who filed a criminal case against Mr. <keyword id="4296642" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasupal">Vasupal</keyword>, which lead to the arrest, says there have been massive bills amounting to more than 1 crore pending, generated over a period of about 12-13 months.

The nature of the accusation invoked against Stayzilla, i.e. non-payment of dues essentially falls in the domain of civil disputes and not under criminal charges, unless it is done with an intent of cheating. Start-ups are prone to all kind of financial vulnerabilities/stress as like any other business, and such examples of criminal proceedings against start-ups create fear in the minds of aspiring entrepreneurs in the country. Start-ups which fail should ideally be treated by a separate “exit/bankruptcy law” or “civil laws”, and not “criminal laws”, which is also in line with the goal of Start-up India.” 
 
When the laws aren’t clear around disruptive companies, they will always be subdued and held accountable to ‘criminal’ acts they didn’t commit. 
 
Yogendra Vasupal’s <a href="https://medium.com/@4091/help-i-need-everybody-52d0adcb1f09#.cgbbfp9ph">Medium post</a> concludes with, “I have always quietly felt that all knowledge/IT/BPO workers in Bangalore are only looked at as a source of revenue which can be gotten by shaking them down. With the return of the 11th edition of IIT <keyword id="107737" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Entrepreneurship">Entrepreneurship</keyword> Summit at <keyword id="61708" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Bombay">IIT Bombay</keyword>, 10 shortlisted startups will be seen battling it out for Rs 15 lakh on-spot funding and mentorship during what is called the ‘The Ten Minute Million’. 
 
IIT Bombay is conducting ‘The Ten Minute Million’ event on 28 – 29 January where chosen startups will pitch for 10 minutes in front of the investor panel and the winner will leave with Rs 15 lakh and mentorship from esteemed investors. 
 
One of the successful startups, Strike had won the amount and then scaled up more than 10 times within a year, according to E-Summit. 
 
The past Investor panel consisted of angel investors like Ajeet Khurana, Anupam Mittal, Samir Shah, Sanjay Mehta and Aniruddh Malpani. The theme for IIT Bombay's E-Summit this year is ‘A Tryst with Tomorrow’. Speakers and participants from numerous countries and genres will be attending the event. 
 "Our idea was that, you take 10 months, we believe it can be done in 10 minutes. I would have been happy even if I had got a fraction of the response. 10 Startups will battle it out at IIT-Bombay's '‘The Ten Minute Million' Challenge to walk away with Rs 15 lakh on-the-spot funding and Mentorship

The 11th edition of E-Summit - a two-day national event held at IIT-Bombay, came to a close with a bang. 
 
Apart from a stellar line-up of speakers, there were many more exciting events happening at the summit, that not only reinforced the spirit and zeal of entrepreneurship but also provided an enriching experience to the attendees. 
 
Events like eureka- a business model competition, the 10 minute million competition, startup expo — a platform for innovative start-ups, internship and job fair, business conclave and innovation conclave were a part of the summit. 
 
Eight teams of young entrepreneurs presented their business strategies in 10 minutes each at the IIT-Bombay e-summit. In the end, four among them split the prized investment money.

Here's all that unfolded at IIT-Bombay's crazy e-summit

Companies and startups are ready to raid engineering and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=B-school+">B-school</a> campuses across India this placement season, adding to the fierce war for talent already raging between large e-Commerce companies and established old-world recruiters. 
 
The startups which are looking for fresh talents include ShopClues, LocalOye, Urban-Clap, PropTiger, Indus Insights, MyRefers, CodeNation, Embibe, Jombay, Lybrate and ShadowFax. 
 
Moreover, a survey of 11 startups suggests they will step up overall <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=campus+hiring+">campus hiring</a> to 770 students from the Class of 2016 compared with only 250 that they hired from the last batch. 
 
Bulk of this hiring will be across top engineering colleges and B-schools, including Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management. 
 
Don’t be disappointed if you are not studying in the above mentioned institutes as a handful will also recruit at leading undergraduate colleges including Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College and St Stephen's, and design schools such as National Institute of Design and National Institute of Fashion Technology. 
 
Now comes the most interesting part- salary! Average salaries offered by these startups range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh at engineering colleges and B-schools, say campus sources. Prop-Tiger, for instance, is paying upwards of Rs 15 lakh plus benefits at tech schools; CodeNation will pay around Rs 24 lakh. 
 
At least three of these startups — Lybrate, LocalOye and ShadowFax — are first-timers on campus while others, at the very least, are doubling last year's numbers. In some cases, hiring targets are going up five-fold or even 16-fold compared with last year. 
 
The strategies behind the hiring are discussed below: 
1. Depending on the kind of institutes, students are being hired for a variety of roles: from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=software+development+engineers">software development engineers</a>; core management &amp; data scientists; product, operations and marketing; merchant acquisition and servicing, to human resource management, product and graphic designers and even entrepreneurs in residence. Sanjay Mehta, a Mumbai-based angel investor who participated in and led 11 angel deals in 2015, says the reason why startups are so gung-ho about <keyword id="511161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="campus-hiring">campus hiring</keyword> is because they want to put this talent to work on cutting-edge technology and new delivery models. Not surprisingly, several institutes where placements have started, including Birla Institute of Technology &amp; Science-Pilani and <keyword id="75110" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="NITs">NITs</keyword>, are seeing these startups go head-to-head with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=traditional+recruiters+">traditional recruiters</a> to hire talent. At other B-schools and <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> where pre-placement offers (PPOs) have started flowing in, it is again the startups that are leading the pack. 
 
2. Much high in numbers: The numbers speak for themselves. If ShopClues is revising its hiring intake from around 100 last year to 180-250 this time, realty portal PropTiger is doubling its target to 50. Even five-month-old B2B (business-to-business) hyperlocal delivery startup ShadowFax, which raised $300,000 from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>'s founders and others in August followed by a $8.5-million Series A round by Fidelity's proprietary investment arm Eight Roads Ventures barely a month later, is looking to hire from IITs, <keyword id="46923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIMs">IIMs</keyword> and other leading management institutes for its technology, data science and operations teams. 
 
3. Tapping more institutes: In the process, these companies are reaching out to many more institutes this year. "If there is a campus that attracts bright minds of the country, we want to be there. This includes other engineering colleges as well as top colleges in economics and commerce," says Saurabh Sharma, founder &amp; chief executive officer of Indus Insights. The Big Data firm made 40 offers last year, mostly at the top IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras). This year, it plans to make 100-plus, including at NITs (Trichy, Warangal, etc), SRCC, LSR, Christ College and Indian School of Business. 
 Similarly, Delhi-based mobile services marketplace UrbanClap, which hired 30 business development and operations specialists from <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> last year, is extending its reach to several new institutes, including <keyword id="6431668" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Delhi">IIT-Delhi</keyword> and IIM-Ahmedabad as it gears up to take on 80-100 this year. 
 
Salaries apart, the other drawing factors include the opportunity to work on challenging problems. "We don't have any glass ceilings. Freshers could be running entire teams within six months of joining," says Aditi Avasthi, founder and CEO, Embibe. "Students are opting for startups aggressively as some of the roles offered by them are quite challenging and inclined with their aspirations," sums up Rahul Katyal, placement manager at IIT-Bombay.
