<ul><li>Amid positive trends in global markets, <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword> opened with gains on Monday.</li><li>This comes after the Indian markets lost over 4% in the last week.</li><li>The <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> opened at 25,084.10 points, surging by 69.50 points, while the <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> opened at 81,852.01, with a gain of 163.56 points.</li></ul>On Monday, the Indian stock market got off to a great start, following the positive trend in markets around the world. Last week, the Indian market had a bad week, losing more than 4%. The Nifty 50 index started strong, reaching 25,084.10 points. This was a gain of 69.50 points, which is a 0.28% increase. The BSE Sensex also had a good start, opening at 81,852.01 points. This was a gain of 163.56 points, or 0.20%. Market experts think that the Indian market will likely continue to do well this week. But there are a few things that could make the market less certain, like geopolitical tensions and the start of the earnings season. "We are expecting better Indian markets this week, with a contingent condition that the Middle East conflict does not expand further. Earnings start later in the week, and hopefully, markets will have to contend with analysing economic news breaks rather than the burgeoning geopolitical risk that has become standard fare since the Oct 7th, 2023 attack on innocent civilians" said Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty IT surged more than 1% during opening, with major IT companies, including TCS, set to announce their quarterly results this week. Nifty IT was followed by Nifty Metal in gains, with the latter rising by more than 0.9% at the time of filing this report. In the list of top gainers, <keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ITC" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="ITC">ITC</keyword>, Trent, and <keyword id="19950207" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Tech" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="HCL Tech" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="HCL Tech">HCL Tech</keyword> emerged as leaders in Nifty 50, while Titan, Hindustan Unilever, and Britannia were among the top losers. "The near-term uptrend for Nifty 50 has sharply turned down, with support at around 25,000. A potential minor bounce early this week, yet caution against holding long positions due to market volatility. A decisive move below 25,000 could trigger further declines towards 24,500" said Varun Aggarwal, MD, Profit Idea. The other Asian markets also rallied on Monday, Japan's Nikkei 225 index surged more than 1.8% while Hong Kong's Hang Seng up by 1.2%. Nifty Sensex breaks five-session losing trend, experts predict positive outlook this week

During early trade, <keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC" source="keywords">ITC</keyword>, <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword>, <keyword id="19896307" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apollo-Hospitals" source="keywords">Apollo Hospitals</keyword>, Dr Reddy and Nestle India managed to gain marginal advantages and were top gainers, while <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Tata Motors" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Tata Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> was down by over 3% and Eicher Motors, Tata Steel, Maruti and Larsen and Toubro were amidst leading laggards, dipping by over 2% each. Except for India VIX, which was up by 2.36%, all other broad market indices opened the day in red. Amongst sectoral indices, auto, IT, metal, PSU and realty indices dipped by over 1% each, while FMCG and pharma were trading in green. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares noted that rangebound trade ended at record levels of 25,011. The index is representing indecisiveness between the bulls and bears. In the lower timeframe, a negative divergence was spotted which indicates a trend reversal and GIFT Nifty also suggests the same; tepid opening. "The immediate support is placed at 24,800 while a recent high of 25,078 will be considered a strong hurdle. Except for energy, all other sectors have formed different bearish candlestick patterns which implies a temporary pause in the trend. Bearish divergence in the mid and smallcap segments also indicates a pause in the overall uptrend", he continued. Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd highlighted that despite the benchmark heading for new highs, the market breadth remains restrained yesterday, with limited support from the bulls indicating a sign of timidity. The correction in the mid and small-cap indices stirred some caution and dampened the undertone. From a technical standpoint, Nifty refrained from showcasing an authoritative move and was crippled due to broad-based profit booking. "As far as levels are concerned, 24,800 remains the crucial support zone with anticipation of buying emergence, followed by the sacrosanct support of 24,600-24,500 zone. On the higher end, 25,080-25,100 seems an intermediate obstacle, followed by the golden retracement placed at 25340 zone in the comparable period. Going forward, it is crucial to consider sectoral rotation and focus on outliers in order to outperform the market. For now, the Banking space remains muted with subdued movements, and this needs to gain traction to further strengthen the market sentiments. Stock market today: Sensex dips over 500 points in early trade today, Nifty dips below 25k

On the other hands, Tata Consumers, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India and Britannia slipped over 1% each in early trade, and were amongst the leading laggards. All broad market indices, except for Nifty50 and India VIX, opened the day in green. Nifty microcap rose by 1.41% during early trade. Nifty bank, auto, metal, pharma, realty, healthcare and private bank opened the day in red, while consumer durables were up by 1.30%. Bajaj Finance and ICICI Prudential are set to declare their Q1FY25 results during the day. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares noted that the uptrend will remain intact as long as the Index holds 24,200. On the higher side, 24,800 will continue as a strong hurdle. "Among the sectors, a strong rally was seen in the <keyword id="19931572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG" source="keywords">FMCG</keyword> in yesterday's trade which helped us to remain bullish on the same. Many of its components have given a strong breakout which indicates a continuation of an uptrend, one should remain invested in the sector and for fresh entry, buying on dips would be an ideal strategy. By performing as per our expectations, dollar appreciation beneficiaries i.e. IT and Pharma were also seen strengthening their uptrend, we have technical coverage on specific stocks such as HCL Tech, Natco Pharma, and Tech Mahindra", he said. "The Metal sector is placed at its long-term trendline support, activity of today's trade will indicate a trend continuation or reversal. Last week, the BSE benchmark jumped 522.74 points, or 0.65 per cent. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 622 points, or 0.78 per cent, to settle at a record closing level of 80,519.34 on Friday. During the day, it zoomed 996.17 points, or 1.24 per cent, to hit an all-time high of 80,893.51. The market capitalisation (mcap) of TCS surged Rs 62,393.92 crore to Rs 15,14,133.45 crore. Market valuation of 7 of top-10 most valued firms jump Rs 1.72 lakh cr; TCS steals show

India's diversified entity <keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ITC" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="ITC">ITC</keyword> plans to open more hotels overseas with neighbouring countries and the Middle East as primary target markets after opening of its first international property here, company Chairman and Managing Director <keyword id="20049280" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjiv-Puri" source="keywords">Sanjiv Puri</keyword> said on Thursday. The company's arm <keyword id="20032522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC-Hotels" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="ITC Hotels" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="ITC Hotels">ITC Hotels</keyword>, which had opened 22 new properties in the last 24 months, plans to add another 70 hotels in the next five years in India as part of expansion plans in the <keyword id="20402233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hospitality-sector" source="keywords">hospitality sector</keyword>. Besides the hotels business, the company will look for opportunities to expand the presence of <keyword id="19931572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="FMCG" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="FMCG">FMCG</keyword> and other verticals in new overseas markets as well. "We are open to exploring opportunities that come about. I think we have strong credentials in hospitality which we can take outside India now. Very clearly at the moment the focus is on proximal markets, be it for hospitality, be it for FMCG...," Puri said here at a press conference after the opening of the 352-room luxury property, <keyword id="20911944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="itc-ratnadipa" source="keywords">ITC Ratnadipa</keyword> here. He said as the company explores and understands a place for a particular business, it may look at it as a market for other verticals as well. Citing the example of Nepal, Puri said,"We started with other businesses and are now looking at hospitality (there). Here (in Sri Lanka) we have started with hospitality...as we explore and understand the place, we will look at possibilities in some of our other sectors as well." On overseas expansion of the hospitality business, while the company's focus is more on 'proximal markets', he said,"We are open to it if there are some interesting opportunities beyond it. We will certainly be interested in pursuing that." When asked if ITC is looking at the Middle East as a market for the hospitality business, he said it is a vibrant economy right now with terrific growth plans and "if opportunity comes our way then we will certainly explore that". Puri also said the company will look to expand in more destinations in Sri Lanka going forward. "This (opening of ITC Ratnadipa) is the starting point and yes, we want to expand and grow the economy and contribute to the development of tourism in Sri Lanka," he said. When asked about ITC's overall expansion plans in the hospitality sector, he said,"We have a very healthy pipeline of 70 hotels in five years." All these 70 hotels are for the Indian domestic market and most of them will be the upscale segments. He, however, said "(For) overseas we're just starting our journey. So we have not yet got to the stage to start putting a number right here." On investments planned for the overall expansion, he did not share a specific number but said "between renovation and new properties will spend somewhere between Rs 700 crore to Rs 1,000 crore a year". When asked about the progress of the demerger of ITC Hotels and its planned public listing, Puri said it is happening in line with the indicated timelines and is expected "before the second half of this year or the end of this year". At its new property here, the company had invested about USD 500 million. It was inaugurated on Thursday by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The ITC Ratnadipa or 'Island of Gems' has 352 guest rooms, suites and service apartments, each with private balconies with waterfront views. Earlier in the day, speaking at the opening of the new hotel, Puri said,"It is very natural for us to specifically focus on markets in proximal areas, encouraged also by our Prime Minister's (Narendra Modi) vision of neighbourhood first where Sri Lanka has a very special position. Markets bounce back in early trade on firm global trends; buying in ITC, Reliance

In a highly volatile trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex rebounded 89.64 points or 0.12 per cent to settle at 72,101.69. During the day, it jumped 390.62 points or 0.54 per cent to 72,402.67. The benchmark hit its day's low of 71,674.42, down 337.63 points or 0.46 per cent, earlier in the day. The NSE Nifty climbed 21.65 points or 0.10 per cent to finish at 21,839.10. "Lifted by favourable global sentiment and solid direct tax collection, Indian markets rebounded, closing with modest gains. Robust <keyword id="19955355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fii" source="keywords">FII</keyword> and DII inflows sustained the market," said <keyword id="19969359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinod-nair" source="keywords">Vinod Nair</keyword>, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services. The notice dated December 27, 2023, pertains to several issues raised in a final audit report on December 25, for the 2018-19 financial year, according to the filing. The issues raised include differences in turnover on outward supplies in the monthly GST returns, differences in tax on outward supplies in the GSTR-9 &amp; GSTR-9C returns, excess <keyword id="19980589" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="input-tax-credit" source="keywords">Input Tax Credit</keyword> (<keyword id="19896958" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="itc" source="keywords">ITC</keyword>) availed, and <keyword id="19980588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="itc-reversal" source="keywords">ITC Reversal</keyword> on credit note. The company said it initially received an audit notice on April 27, 2023, and submitted relevant documents in response. Bata India was given a personal hearing on January 10, 2024, to present its case and provide further information on the disputed issues, as per the filing. The company expressed confidence in its ability to defend the case before the authorities concerned. "It is believed that the company has a good case to defend the matters without any material financial impact," Bata India said. Bata India gets ₹60 crore sales tax notice

Now that the British tobacco giant’s 3.5% stake in the company has been offloaded via a block deal last week, there are few uncertainties around it. More so, after the correction, the stock is now looking attractive, say analysts. “The stock has corrected by around 12% from its recent high and is trading at an attractive valuation. Given that the uncertainties related to the stake sale are over, we believe it is the right time to enter into a quality large-cap company in the FMCG space with attractive valuations and a good dividend distribution policy,” said a recent report by <keyword id="19952951" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sharekhan" source="keywords">Sharekhan</keyword>. A roller-coaster journey The ITC stock had been one of the top performers of 2023, as the stock hit a fresh high of ₹489 per share last July – facilitating its entry into the coveted ₹6 trillion club. However, in the last three months, ITC has shed 7% of its value as the uncertainties around the stake sale cast a shadow over the stock. Now, the uncertainty is gone, and the prospects seem better. After the stake sale, BAT’s stake in the company stands at 25.5%. Any further stake sale can only happen after 180 days of the locking period. “It is unlikely to reduce its stake below 25%. Post the stake sale by BAT, there will not be any major uncertainties hovering around the stock,” adds Sharekhan. <keyword id="19977638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="morgan-stanley" source="keywords">Morgan Stanley</keyword> too believes that ITC, which has underperformed the index, will rise relative to the country index in the next one month. “In our view, BAT stake sell down of 3.5% in ITC clears the supply overhang on the stock, as seen recently. ITC stock has underperformed the market by 8%. We expect resumption in the stock's outperformance given our fundamental view of a moderate and infrequent cigarette tax environment and continued scale-up of non-cigarette businesses, important catalysts for the stock's re-rating,” opines Morgan Stanley. FMCG and other fundamentals Apart from the expectations of a stable tax environment for cigarettes, analysts believe that there are other triggers ahead for the stock. The company has been driving growth across its many business verticals — be it FMCG, hotels, paper and agriculture business. The contribution of the non-cigarette business has increased to 27% from around 17% in FY13. It has also been growing its FMCG business with M&amp;As, product diversification, a resilient supply chain as well as a smart omnichannel network. “Strong traction to product launches and increased e-commerce salience to around 10% will help the non-cigarette FMCG business’s revenue to consistently grow in mid-teens to high teens in the coming years,” says Sharekhan. Its hotels business however has been tracking well, with solid double-digit growth in the last few quarters. Most analysts expect the domestic demand for travel to continue and business travel to pick up an even faster pace going ahead. Added to that, they also see foreign travel picking up, and ITC with its high-end properties could gain. “Hotels and agribusiness should continue strong momentum while paper business seems to be bottoming out. Strong cash generation and a solid dividend yield should continue to provide downside support. The hotel business demerger is positive and we expect an accelerated re-rating if it is followed with similar actions in FMCG/IT businesses as well,” says a report by <keyword id="20489750" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="systematix" source="keywords">Systematix</keyword> in January.
