<ul><li>Bharti Airtel has discontinued its ₹49 entry level prepaid recharge plan and started ₹79 smart recharge offer.</li><li>Shares of the company rose 5% after the company announced the development.</li><li>With this, the telecom operator says it is focusing on offering superior connectivity solutions.</li></ul>Shares of Bharti Airtel gained 5% as the company announced that it has discontinued its cheapest prepaid recharge plan of ₹49. Instead it has started a new prepaid recharge pack of ₹79 that offers up to four times more outgoing minutes of usage to customers along with twice the amount of data. Basically, it has hiked its cheapest prepaid plan to ₹79. “This change is in line with the company’s focus on offering superior connectivity solutions. Airtel customers on entry level recharges can now stay connected for longer without worrying about their account balance,” the company said in a BSE statement. “If they have hiked the plan the stock would have reacted but I don’t think there is any long term positive on the stock...eventually they will have to compete with Jio and Vodafone Idea and the space is so overcrowded that eventually none of these players have any pricing power at all.. The stock has really gone nowhere in 13 years now and unlikely to as right now they are competing in a market which is so stiff that everybody wants to gain market share,” said Rajat Sharma, founder of Sana Securities. Traders in the market must have found this announcement as a positive and that is why the rise in stock price, added Sharma. As per The Economic Times report, the government was also considering other measures with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) including a reduction in licence fees (LF) and spectrum usage charges (SUC) and phasing out of bank guarantees. Bharti Airtel gains 5% as its cheapest prepaid plan gets costlier by ₹30

New Delhi, Mar 30 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday announced an extension in the validity period of more than 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited talk time of Rs 10 in these accounts."Airtel has extended the pre-paid pack validity for over 80 million customers till April 17, 2020. All these customers will continue to get incoming calls on their Airtel mobile numbers even after the validity of their plan is exhausted," Airtel said in a statement.     The benefits will be available to users in the next 48 hours, it said.    "Airtel will also credit an additional Rs 10 of talk time in the pre-paid accounts of all these 80 million customers to enable them to make calls or send SMS and therefore stay connected with their loved ones," the statement said.    State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL have also extended validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offer Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.    An Airtel official said that the company will not recover Rs 10 credit given to all the pre-paid customers.     "In this difficult hour of fighting off the threat of covid-19, Airtel is committed to ensuring that all people remain connected without any disruptions. And for this objective, it is critical to take care of the under-privileged daily wage earners of our country, whose lives have been disrupted due to the lock-down," Shashwat Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel said. Google today added a new feature to Search that will help prepaid SIM users across the country. The search giant announced that users will now be able to use Search to compare prepaid mobile plans of different telcos. Apart from comparing plans, users will also be able to compare discounts and cashbacks that are being offered by various apps on those <keyword id="1318902" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="recharges">recharges</keyword>. This will help users to select the best plans and go with the best offers at one place. Who can use this service? The service is currently available for signed-in users on Android devices. This means that if you are using search on a computer or an iOS device, you will not be able to use this feature. Which telecom operators are supported? New Delhi, Apr 17 () Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have extended the validity of pre-paid mobile plans till May 3 for those users who could not recharge their account due to the lockdown imposed to contain Covid-19 spread. The extension in validity altogether benefits around 12 crore customers. It will enable customers to continue getting incoming calls even if they are unable to recharge their account till May 3. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea had earlier extended validity till April 17 of pre-paid account holders."Many of these customers have been able to recharge through several channels activated by Airtel including - ATMs, post offices, grocery stores and chemist shops, in addition to digital channels. However, close to 30 million (3 crore) such customers have still not been able to recharge their pre-paid mobile accounts," Bharti Airtel said in a statement.The government announced nationwide lockdown starting March 24 till April 14. It has been further extended till May 3. Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea offer cashback or commission to their customers who recharge pre-paid account of subscriber on their network through apps of the respective companies. Vodafone Idea said free of cost extension of incoming service validity will enable millions of feature phone users of both Vodafone and Idea to continue to receive incoming calls, even if the validity of their plan expires earlier. "In order to ensure that consumers stay connected during this extended lock down, we are extending the incoming service validity of 90 million consumers till May 3," Vodafone Idea marketing director Avneesh Khosla said. New Delhi, Jan 19 () Telecom major Airtel on Sunday announced Rs 179 prepaid bundle that packs in a term life cover of Rs 2 lakh from Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
"Priced at... Rs 179, Airtel's new prepaid bundle offers unlimited calling to any network, 2 GB data, 300 SMS along with a term life cover of Rs 2 lakh from Bharti AXA Life Insurance," the company said in a statement. 
The pack has a validity of 28 days and is targeted at entry-level smartphone users and feature phone users in semi-urban and rural markets. 
"It will give these customers a simple and highly convenient channel to secure themselves and their families financially every time they recharge their Airtel mobile numbers," the statement added.
The insurance cover is available to customer aged 18-54 years and requires no paperwork or medical test, it said.
The policy or Certificate of Insurance will be instantaneously delivered digitally and a physical copy of the insurance can be provided on request, it added.
Shashwat Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel, said that the company's prepaid bundles with built-in term insurance plans have got positive response from customers and this has encouraged it to take the solution even deeper to the masses. MBI MKJ
