It also trains US pilots and has a partnership with Delta Air Lines.Booth says airlines are "very much knocking on our door" as they look to recruit new pilots.After an oversupply prior to the pandemic, the management consulting firm Oliver Wyman estimates that North America is short of about 17,000 pilots due to factors such as early retirement, while the global figure could hit nearly 80,000 by 2032.Skyborne received a further boost after being selected as the UK base for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-airways-airbus-a380-premium-economy-review-upgrade-cost-2024-10">British Airways</a>' Speedbird Pilot Academy program, which covers the training costs for up to 200 cadets. Just 12% of trainees on Skyborne's ATPL course are women, and female pilots account for just 5% of the global total pilots, per the International Civil Aviation Organization.Roebuck said she's attended many open days and careers events with only one or two women, prompting her to keep pushing for change. "Especially since I've got back from Florida, I've seen far more females in the building, which has been really nice."<h2 id="ba00f0a0-3bea-4f65-8f28-144b76cebace">Ground school, flight school, and simulators</h2>Skyborne's pilot course starts with six months of classes, which Harriss described as "really intense" and has just two seven-day breaks.Roebuck said she would get up at 7 a.m. and be in classes or studying until 11 p.m. as well as putting in another 12 hours on weekends. "What you put in is what you get out of this course."There's also customer-service training that includes roleplaying different scenarios. Interkosmos program (1984) </h2>Under the Soviet Union's Interkosmos program, India participated in a manned spaceflight mission. Rakesh Sharma, an Indian Air Force pilot, was sent into space aboard the Soviet Soyuz T-11 spacecraft, making him the first Indian to travel to space. 7 times Russia aided India's space program — in chronological order

New Delhi, Aviation watchdog <keyword id="19899185" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dgca" source="keywords">DGCA</keyword> has deferred the implementation of the revised flight duty norms for pilots that were to be effective from June 1, according to two civil aviation ministry officials. One of the officials on Tuesday said the revised norms have been deferred for some time to have wider consultations. The new norms provide for more rest time for pilots and seek to alleviate pilot fatigue. The latest decision comes less than two weeks after the <keyword id="19926254" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-civil-aviation" source="keywords">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (DGCA) told airlines that the deadline for implementing the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms will not be deferred. Another official said implementation of the revised FDTL norms has been deferred for some time to enable thorough consideration of all elements. The <keyword id="20738678" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="federation-of-indian-airlines" source="keywords">Federation of Indian Airlines</keyword> (FIA), comprising <keyword id="19896871" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="keywords">Air India</keyword>, <keyword id="19987725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet" source="keywords">SpiceJet</keyword> and <keyword id="19899182" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigo" source="keywords">IndiGo</keyword>, had written at least twice to the regulator seeking more time for implementation of the revised FDTL norms that were issued on January 8. In a communication to the FIA earlier this month, the regulator said the airlines have to take all necessary steps to roll out the revised FDTL CAR (<keyword id="20777683" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="civil-aviation-requirements" source="keywords">Civil Aviation Requirements</keyword>) with effect from June 1, 2024. The revised norms provide for increased weekly rest time to 48 hours for pilots and limit the number of landings to two during night operations. Besides, the night hours for pilots will be extended to cover the period from midnight to 6 am whereas it was midnight to 5 am earlier. Also, all airlines have to compulsorily submit quarterly fatigue reports, which "should follow a non-punitive and confidentiality policy".

The government has given its nod for the foreign direct investment by <keyword id="20036942" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore-Airlines" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Singapore Airlines" meta.hostid="346" meta.entityid="Singapore Airlines">Singapore Airlines</keyword> as part of the Air India-Vistara <keyword id="20035800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="merger" source="keywords">merger</keyword>. Vistara is a joint venture between <keyword id="19924335" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Tata Group" meta.hostid="346" meta.entityid="Tata Group">Tata Group</keyword> and Singapore Airlines. Air India is owned by Tata Group. "Starting 03 September 2024, customers will, progressively, no longer be able to make bookings with Vistara for travel on or after 12 November 2024," Vistara said in a release on Friday. Thereafter, Vistara aircraft will be operated by Air India and bookings for the routes operated by these planes will be redirected to Air India's website. "Vistara will continue to take bookings and operate flights as usual till 11 November 2024," the release said. The merger of Vistara with Air India was announced in November 2022 and post-completion of the deal, Singapore Airlines will have a 25.1 per cent stake in Air India. Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan said the merger is about offering passengers more choice with a larger fleet and a wider network while elevating the overall travel experience. "Cross-functional teams from Air India and Vistara have been working together for many months to make the transition of aircraft, flying crew, ground-based colleagues and, most importantly, our valued customers, into the new Air India as seamless as possible," Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said. In a separate release, Air India welcomed the Union Cabinet's approval for the foreign direct investment by Singapore Airlines in the airline. "This is an important milestone that facilitates the merger process between Vistara and Air India, and the broader transformation of the Air India Group," it said.

Vistara to operate last flight under its brand on November 11

In a major development, the <keyword id="64630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Commercial-Pilots-Association" source="Orion">Indian Commercial Pilots Association</keyword> (ICPA) and the <keyword id="64606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Pilots-Guild" source="Orion">Indian Pilots Guild</keyword> (IPG) of <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> have rejected the new pay structure proposed by the airline. The primary bone of contention is the reduction in flying allowance from 70 hours to 40 hours every month under the new structure, which the pilots believe is unfair. The two unions have warned of possible 'industrial unrest' if the management goes ahead with the new terms without their consent. While Air India has stated that it will "continue to engage with the remainder of its staff", the airline has taken a tough stance on the issue, saying that there are "no recognised unions in Air India". This is the first wage revision offered by the Tata group-owned Air India since its takeover last year, and it will affect all 3,000 pilots across its four airlines - Air India, <keyword id="6378232" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India-Express" source="Orion">Air India Express</keyword>, <keyword id="1625599" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Asia-India" source="Orion">Air Asia India</keyword>, and <keyword id="2467342" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vistara" source="Orion">Vistara</keyword>. The two unions have warned of potential industrial unrest if the company takes any coercive or victimising action against their members. In a joint statement, the unions stated that the company reiterated that "all previous understandings, representations and agreements of whatever nature that have been entered into with us are null &amp; void and that the company further has the right to change any terms and conditions". "The term cost to the company for an assumed flying of 70 hrs is deliberately misleading and creates an impression of a generous compensation and accompanying benefits package. The actual guaranteed money being offered is only for 40 hrs. Effectively, any time a pilot is on leave or is unavailable due to recurrent training requirements or document/licence renewals, not to mention any sick leave, there is an automatic pay cut involved," the statement read. "The so-called rationalisations of allowances is not in line with any industry practices as projected by HR. Further, blanket consent is sought for any leave or insurance policy that the company may come up with &amp; which is subject to amendment or outright withdrawal. "Suffice it to say that this is not an all-inclusive list but merely a selection of some of the most outlandish and labour-hostile provisions that we have come across to date. This is dishonourable and how the management is trying to force it down the employees' throats is outright unethical," it added. "Nor has the blatant attack on our rights as workmen to bargain collectively or seek legal redressal for any injustice or victimisation gone unnoticed. Where is the company requirement all of a sudden to forcibly promote almost all the permanent workmen of the union to the so-called Senior Commander management cadre? It is clear from all this that there is a concerted effort to gut the unions and isolate pilots into individual boxes where they can be exploited and victimised at will by the HR department," the statement said. Meanwhile, Air India's spokesperson has defended the new compensation structure, which includes parity among different groups, recognition of managerial and supervisory roles for experienced pilots, and individual contracts sent to pilots and cabin crew for necessary paperwork. "The managerial and supervisory role played by the experienced pilots is also being recognised in the form of designating them as Senior Commander as also offering them a special monthly allowance. The contracts reflecting these enhancements were individually sent to the pilots and cabin crew for necessary paperwork," said the spokesperson. The spokesperson also claimed that a large number of pilots and cabin crew have already accepted the new contracts, and the salary improvements and advancement opportunities they enable. "The airline will continue to engage with the remainder of its staff through this process as currently there is no recognised union in Air India," the spokesperson said. Air India pilots' unions reject proposed pay structure, warn of industrial unrest

Govt spent two crores on training Manu Bhaker, says Sports Minister Mandaviya after her Olympic bronze win

In what is seen as a major standdown, the pilots' union of <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> has withdrawn its opposition to the new wage pact and employment agreement. In a joint letter issued on Thursday, the Indian Pilots' Guild (<keyword id="179256" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ipg" source="Orion">IPG</keyword>) and Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) withdrew their stand and told their members that they are free to sign new wage contracts offered by the new <keyword id="6355725" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-group" source="Orion">Tata group</keyword> management of Air India. "As dedicated <keyword id="4746568" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="air-indians" source="Orion">Air Indians</keyword>, we believe it is crucial to express our readiness to settle the dispute at hand and find an amicable resolution for the benefit of both parties," the IPG and ICPA said in a joint letter to their members. The letter further read, "Over the past year, our attempts to reach a resolution have been hindered by a lack of cooperation from the management. Their unwillingness to address our concerns and apathetic attitude has resulted in a prolonged stalemate and escalating tensions." "Upon the assurances given in the online 'Townhall Meeting for Pilots' and in the interest of the aspirations of Air India, The <keyword id="8555" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata" source="Orion">Tata</keyword> Group and our passengers, the Joint Directive No.01 of 2023, Sub: Unilateral Changes in Policies stands withdrawn," the letter titled as 'Withdrawn of Joint Directive Np01 of 2023', added. The announcement came after a joint meeting held on Thursday, wherein the unions' members were told that they are free to sign the new wage contract. Last month, the Tata Group-owned airline announced a new salary structure for pilots and cabin crew but the staff was disappointed with the revisions. Their main grouse was about promoting captains with more than four years of experience in management. In a communication to all employees including pilots and crew members in April this year, Air India management had said that they announced the revision of their employment contracts and revised compensation for flying staff. "I am reaching directly to our flying staff through this platform as currently there is no recognized union at Air India. This is within the framework of law," said Air India Chief Human Resource Officer Suresh Tripathi, had said in a video message. The airline had said that the contract sent is a compilation of applicable policies and existing rules. Wherever there are differences, their changes are introduced to have a performance and merit-based culture as would be the ask of any world-class and professionally run airline. In the last one year, they have been hearing all the concerns of their flying community through various forums and constant communication, the Air India management said. "Guaranteed flying allowance has moved upwards from existing 20 hours to fixed 40 hours. With our ambitious growth and large aircraft order, we as an organisation are confident to provide you more and more opportunities for flying. The fact remains that at 70 hours of flying, income across the board has increased. We are a productivity-oriented organisation, and anyone who is ready to contribute will grow and prosper," the airline had said. "Our Trainers who would be investing more time in training as we ramp up, have been given a significant increase in pay in the form of both fixed and variable. There is more than 40 per cent increase in the allowance for trainers," it added. Air India said flying allowance rates are one of the highest in the Indian industry, with even higher amounts beyond 40 hours. There used to be a difference in flying rates in the same pilot rank which has been done away with to promote fairness. They have introduced additional compensation during training of command upgrade and conversion training which was not existing earlier. There was not any service reward existing to recognise the contribution of experienced staff. A fixed amount has been added to salaries. "These are all changes we have introduced for the better and to become market competitive, which was a key ask. We have also introduced best-in-class employee insurance and other benefits which were not existing earlier at Air India to support the welfare of our flying staff," the airline's management had said. Air India pilots' union withdraws opposition to new wage agreement

Discontent has been brewing among a section of the cabin crew at the low-cost carrier for some time now, especially after the start of the process of merger of AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India, with itself. The sources on Wednesday said several cabin crew members started reporting sick since Monday evening and as there are not enough cabin crew members, "scores of flights" have been cancelled at various airports, including Kochi, Calicut and Bangalore. Late last month, a union representing a section of the Air India Express cabin crew alleged that the airline is being mismanaged and there is a lack of equality in the treatment of the staff. Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU), a registered union, which claims to represent around 300 cabin crew members, mostly seniors, had also alleged that mismanagement of the affairs has affected the morale of the employees. Many passengers took to social media on Wednesday complaining about the sudden cancellation of flights. In response to a passenger's post on X about flight cancellation, Air India Express apologised and said the flight was cancelled "due to operational reasons". "As part of our service recovery process, you can either opt to reschedule the flight within the next 7 days or request a full refund through our chat bot Tia...," the airline said in a post on X. The following was edited for length and clarity.I had spent my younger days bouncing all over the world because my father was in the military. But life felt so stationary when we returned to the States.During college, I applied to the Reserve Office Training Corps (ROTC) in Berkeley. During the six-week training camp, they took us up on a T-37 [a small training plane made by Cessna].Flying a plane is freeing. It's this amazing feeling of control but no control.I decided right then: I wanted to be a pilot.<h2 id="d6519485-62a2-47d6-bb3a-b0ab980c1a58">The hardest period of my life</h2>In 1980, the Air Force only had 10 slots for women per graduating class, and they had already been filled for the year.But halfway through my junior year, they came back and said the women seemed to be graduating at the same rate as the men, so the allotment was increased to 30.I flew out to Laughlin Air Force base in Texas to start <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-new-air-force-recruits-go-through-in-boot-camp-2021-9">pilot training</a>.<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="581" width="581" msid="111363776" hostid="261" sizebytes="29586"></div>It was daunting in a lot of ways.Unlike a lot of people in my class, I didn't have prior flying experience. And when you're in training, flying is a lot like a loop-the-loop on a roller coaster… but I'm not one for roller coasters.So I was just trying to get the task done and not be fearful all the time.In high school, my teacher said it was fine for me to be bad at Math because I could do English. But in training, everybody knew the instructors' formulas, and I didn't.So when my classmates were out having a good time on the weekends, I was back at the dorm studying. It was probably the hardest period of my life that year. I was lonely.I almost didn't make it to that point because I was short. You are supposed to be five feet four inches, and I was five feet two inches. For my entire career, I've had to stand on the balls of my feet when I was measured.<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="1433" width="1440" msid="111363789" hostid="261" sizebytes="68634"></div>I only found out I was the first Black woman in the Air Force a couple of weeks before I graduated when a friend from ROTC mentioned it.Looking back, that was lucky. I was only 22. It would have been too much pressure for someone my age to carry my gender and race together.<h2 id="acd9cc57-d4eb-4b37-8622-968782f3dfcf">Just do the work</h2>Being the only person who looked like me created challenges. A lot of it was very subtle. But you could just feel it — people looking at you and thinking, "OK, she's here."<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="1646" width="1646" msid="111363785" hostid="261" sizebytes="70480"></div>Entering active duty in the Air Force, I did feel the pressure.If I didn't do well, then when people see another person that looks like me, what will they think?My attitude was always to do the work and get an A. Don't allow someone to have a subjective opinion that either puts you there or denies you something.But who's to say that through those years, there were people who did not give me a break because of what I looked like?There was one evaluation I remember well. It was deemed that I didn't put anti-ice on quickly enough. That's not what I saw. But how do you say that decision was because I'm this or that? You don't know.After that, there was only one time I didn't 100% pass the check.<h2 id="24111d10-e367-4f65-a929-4ecb1c56fa0a">Commercial pilots are qualified</h2>After seven years I left active duty and joined the reserves. In 1990, I started <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airline-pilot-pay-salary-american-delta-united-captain-first-officer-2024-4">working as a commercial pilot</a> for United.My routes were on a Boeing 757 out of Newark, mostly heading to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, and Delhi.<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="1365" width="2048" msid="111363782" hostid="261" sizebytes="182068"></div>In order to be a pilot, you have to be perseverant and a go-getter. You also need a thick skin because, believe it or not, there are still people who believe that we have no business flying airplanes.There's a lot of noise out there about <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/right-wing-commentators-baselessly-blame-diversity-for-plane-safety-incidents-2024-1">DEI and pilot qualifications</a>.People have said, "If I walk up to an airplane and there's a Black pilot, I will get off the airplane."I've been stopped by passengers after I use the restroom and reenter the flight deck. Once, when I asked a passenger to let me by, he looked at me and said, "What for?""Because I'm your pilot," I replied.The look on his face was like "No, you're not." It's happened multiple times.Sometimes, even the agents working at my own company have automatically tried to put me in the flight attendant jump seat.I wish there were magic words to be said, but I think it's almost one pilot at a time, one person at a time. Companies have started <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/delta-focus-equity-in-diversity-efforts-2024-3">enforcing some rules,</a> and HR is stepping in to make the unions handle some of these situations.<h2 id="37bab9a3-6a90-424c-bb08-5e946f4d3f7a">Flying internationally is hard on your body</h2>Any time you're in the air for 15+ hours, then on the ground for 24 hours, and then back up again for 15 more, it takes a toll on your body. It was time for me to hang it up.I flew my last large commercial airplane back from Lisbon this May.It was a proud moment. I've flown incident-free and accident-free across all these years, and I have strong shoulders that many, many, many women are standing on.<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="960" width="944" msid="111363787" hostid="261" sizebytes="33534"></div>I'm going to miss walking through the airport in my uniform and being able to hand out wings to little kids. Their eyes just get big.It's funny how they know the difference between a pilot and someone else. They don't look through colored glasses. They just see someone in the hat and know that's a pilot.<h2 id="326d4c21-b999-462f-8973-f24f41801bd9">Increasing diversity</h2>The reports say that women are about 5% to 6% of the airline pilot population. And the number of Black women is even smaller.Women can be pilots and have a family, the same way the guys do.I've become involved in organizations like Women in Aviation and Sisters of the Skies to ensure more little girls know this is a real career.We introduce young women between the ages of 10 and 18 to aviation and take them up in an airplane flown by a woman who looks like them.<div type="image" title="Captain Theresa Claiborne" height="1046" width="1565" msid="111363791" hostid="261" sizebytes="87334"></div>By the time they land, they're smiling wide from ear to ear.Not everybody is meant to be a pilot, but we want them to know that if they assert themselves, they can be whatever they want.I tell the young ladies I mentor the same thing I told myself: be so good that they can't say you're not good.If that's what you really want to do, be the best.

It has been edited for length and clarity.I started flying when I was 12.My parents had a little cabin northwest of Montreal that we'd go to in the summer. A nearby air service company had four or five airplanes. I talked my dad into going and seeing if I could get a job.They said: "Yeah, sure. We can't pay you though, because you're underage."My job was fueling the airplanes, loading baggage, and whatever else. In return, the pilots taught me <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-just-became-commercial-pilot-training-regional-airline-2021-10">how to fly</a>. I spent three summers working there and accumulated about 30 hours of flying time.My father was my idol. He and my uncle were both pilots during World War II. My brother and sister were also pilots. Aviation is in the family.When I finished school, I went into the Royal Canadian Navy and did a tour there. Not as a pilot, though — I was in naval intelligence.When I got out of the Navy, I finished my pilot's license, and I flew for various companies. During that time, I flew anybody and everybody. We had movie stars and royalty. I flew the Prime Minister of Canada a number of times during election campaigns.In 2005, I retired from Air Canada and was hired by <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/life-of-prince-alwaleed-of-saudi-arabia-2015-6">Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal</a>, a Saudi prince based in Riyadh.He was a self-made billionaire. This would happen regularly.It was mind-boggling to see how much money could buy.When the prince's daughter got married, he said to her, "Okay, I'm going to give you one of my airplanes and the crew, and I want you to take it for as long as you want and have a honeymoon."They took the Boeing 767, an airplane that carried more than 200 passengers. With a crew of 12, his daughter and her husband spent more than a month flying all over the world.The crew very seldom dealt with the prince directly; there would usually be an intermediary. This changed during a flight to New York for a meeting he had with George W. Bush.The prince walked into the cockpit and gave everybody $5,000. He said: "Have a nice time while you're in New York."It was peanuts to him, but for us, it was a lot of money.After leaving Riyadh in 2006, I worked for a few different companies, including a two-year stint with Air India.In 2013, I was offered a job in the Republic of Georgia, flying a Twin Otter aircraft. It was a very versatile and excellent airplane for what we used it for.We flew the country's president, his family, and other government personnel into and out of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. There were very few strips, so we used fields and roads to land and take off.I'm mostly retired now, except for some consulting work with my company, Trans Global Aviation Solutions.The best thing about the career is the career itself. It was very rewarding — and there was never a dull moment.

New Delhi, <keyword id="175577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="commercial-pilot-license" source="Orion">Commercial pilot license</keyword>s will now be valid for ten years, with the government amending rules as part of efforts to further improve ease of doing business in the aviation sector. Till now, the validity of Commercial Pilot License (CPL) was for five years and after completion of that period, it had to be renewed. The civil aviation ministry amended the Aircraft Rules, 1937. Among various changes made, the validity of licenses in relation to Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and CPL holders has been increased from five years to ten years. "This change is expected to reduce administrative burden on pilots and aviation authorities like DGCA, promoting a more streamlined and efficient licensing process," the ministry said in a statement on Monday. Besides, rules have been amended to address concerns related to the display of lights in the vicinity of an aerodrome. It has also been clarified that the term 'light' encompasses lantern lights, wish kites, and laser lights. Also, the government's jurisdiction over those exhibiting such lights has been extended from 5 kilometres to 5 nautical miles around an aerodrome. "It is made explicit that the government possesses the authority to take action against individuals displaying lights that disrupt the safe operation of aircraft or pose hazards to the operating crew. "Should such lights remain unattended for 24 hours, the government is empowered to enter the location and extinguish them," the ministry said. Simultaneously, the matter should be reported to the relevant police station for legal action under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). When the source of the observed light is unidentifiable or if it shifts locations, the airport or airline operator is obligated to promptly report the incident to the local police station, initiating potential criminal proceedings. Another amendment is that the requirement for validation of foreign licenses has been removed. "This change signifies aligning the regulations with the evolving needs of the aviation sector," the ministry said. Further, the requirements related to continued competence for <keyword id="6414849" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="air-traffic-controller" source="Orion">Air Traffic Controller</keyword> (ATC) license holders have been liberalised. According to the ministry, this change offers increased flexibility to accommodate situations with limited movements or watch hours. ATC license holders must complete a minimum of ten hours of simulated exercises, including emergencies. Subsequently, they must undergo a skill assessment for their respective rating within ten consecutive days of commencing these exercises, it said. The ministry said the amendments to the Aircraft Rules, 1937, notified on October 10, mark a crucial shift in promoting ease of doing business and ensuring safety and security within the aviation sector. India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Airlines are expanding their aircraft fleet and will be hiring more pilots to cater to rising air traffic demand.

"With the introduction of the standard deduction in 2018 and the last increase in 2019 from ₹ 40,000 to ₹ 50,000, it is essential to raise the threshold to ₹75,000 now to align with current living costs and inflation. Raising the standard deduction can help improve people's purchasing power, especially those with fixed incomes like pensions", he said. Krishan Mishra, CEO, FPSB India also wishes for the tax exemption limit under new regime be raised from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, since "it will be a crucial step to encourage savings and investments among the mid-income group and will provide much-needed relief to taxpayers". The government may make the new tax regime more lucrative by enhancing its basic exemption limit (up to which no income tax is payable) from Rs 3,00,000. But that's a lot of MIGHTS, that will have to wait the final bell till 23rd! 3. How is the Budget is prepared? It is a lengthy, long-drawn process, which starts with the finance ministry asking all departments, states, ministries and union territories to give them an estimate of how much money they'd potentially need during the year. In addition to this, they also have to present details of all their revenues and expenditures in the past year. Then begins a super duper long process of consultations and discussions and deliberations and consultations and dialog (you get the gist!), after which the allocations are made. Weeks before the budget presentation, the <keyword id="19956758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance-minister" source="keywords">finance minister</keyword> also meets representatives from various industries like agriculture, trade, manufacturing and more to know what they want. Based on that, the budget is fine tuned. 9-10 days before the budget is to be presented in the parliament, a halwa ceremony takes place, which commenced today, marks the start of budget printing. From this time on, the finance ministry staff goes super hush-hush and in lockdown, with no one allowed to leave the ministry premises till the budget is tabled in the parliament. 4. Why did India have 2 budgets this year? Because 2024 was an election year. That is why you saw an <keyword id="547606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Interim-budget" source="Orion">interim budget</keyword> in February, where the government presented a budget, the aim of which was just to fund its regular expenses and spending over the next 2-3 months, till elections. After the elections, it is the responsibility of the newly elected government to prepare a full-fledged budget. Think of this as borrowing from your friends just to fund your mid-month, small term, interim cash crunch. You pay them back as soon as you get your salary, and your budget is set again (at least for the time being!) 5. What are the various types of budget documents The union budget is a hefty set of documents! There's Annual Financial Statement, which lays out how much money it needs in revenue, and how much does it plan to spend that during the year. There's demands of grants, which tells us how these receipts and expenditures will be utilised by different ministries and departments, down to each scheme. There's the finance bill, which outlines any changes the government intends to make, in order to raise these proposed funds. This primarily includes change in tax structures. Then there is appropriation bill, which highlights how the government plans to withdraw money from the consolidated fund of India (where all of government's revenue from income tax, customs and excise and other sources flow in). Once approved, both finance and appropriation bill become acts. The extremely complex sounding "medium term fiscal policy cum fiscal policy strategy statement" has all your important macro- economic indicators like GDP, fiscal deficit, revenue deficit, primary deficit and more.
