It will only retain a bureau in the Capital. An inside source told IANS that the Delhi DNA office was now being converted into a bureau and the "management wants to concentrate on the main Mumbai edition." DNA was a part of Diligent Media Corporation Ltd (DMCL) that was incorporated in 2005 as a joint venture entity of two media conglomerates -- Essel Group and Bhaskar Group. The first DNA edition was launched in Mumbai on July 30, 2005. Post exit of Bhaskar Group in 2012, the company is now part of the <keyword id="141413" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zee-Entertainment-Enterprises">Zee Entertainment Enterprises</keyword> Ltd (Zeel) promoter Essel Group which is currently embroiled in <keyword id="6355008" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Money-laundering">money laundering</keyword> allegations in the aftermath of the November 2016 demonetization. Entertainment mogul Subhash Chandra's Essel Group, which is under pressure from creditors over Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ finances, is reportedly in talks to sell stakes in many of its businesses. Chairman Chandra admitted in January that some bad investments in infrastructure projects and the purchase of a rival satellite TV business led to its downfall. A news report alleged that Essel Group had links with another company that is being probed by Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) for deposits of over Rs 3,000 crore after demonetisation. Essel Group’s merger of its direct-to-home services with that of Videocon is the other contentious issue that has the two sides fighting a legal battle. Zee Group in crisis shuts DNA newspaper's Delhi edition

A senior IT official said, "There are no searches or raids but we are carrying out limited verification exercise at the offices of the <keyword id="147676" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Larsen">Larsen</keyword> and <keyword id="304986" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Toubro">Toubro</keyword> and Zee group as we had information that they had claimed bogus input tax credit." The official said that it is basically a follow up exercise and there is limited action on both the groups. "We are covering these group and the companies related to these groups on account of this bogus input taxes," the official added. The official, however, refused to share the details of the offices where the verification process is being carried out. One really can’t say anything at this stage." Zee Entertainment, run by Chandra's sons Punit and Amit, has 76 channels reaching 1.3 billion viewers in 173 countries. Is Chandra willing to give up control of Zee, or will he sell a smaller stake? "It all depends on the respective business preferences of the shortlisted players. It is (more) complicated than it seems and we will collectively arrive at a decision which is best suited for the company and for its stakeholders," Chandra said. Stakes in almost all these businesses are on the block. "If you look at the sale of assets of our infra business, I believe it will be completed between July and September. With that ₹15o-160-billion debt of operating companies and ₹3,000 crore of corporate debt will get cleared off. So overall about Rs 200 crore of debt will easily get wiped off. Zee Entertainment has five companies from Japan, Europe, US, and India vying for a stake: Subhash Chandra

Mumbai, Jan 24 () In a bid to reward talent in the advertising space, Zee Group will provide 75 per cent of the cost of each entry at the Kyoorius Creative Awards, according to a senior executive.
 A prestigious award in the domestic advertising circuit, the cost for each entry for Kyoorius Creative Awards is around Rs 15,000.
 "We want to disrupt the advertising awards ecosystem by changing the very paradigm of how creative awards are done today, be it right here or elsewhere.
 "With this, we are not looking at a direct return on investment but a 'return on relationship' as we are the largest broadcaster with the maximum linguistic reach and content," Zee Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Punit Goenka told .
 He said Zee Group would provide 75 per cent of the cost of each entry at the Awards.
 Goenka, also President of the International Advertising Association, said this association is also "our way of returning to the creative fraternity as without them our content drive will not be possible".
 Generally, the entry cost for creative awards are high. For instance, the cost is varies from USD 600 to USD 900 per entry for the Cannes Awards -- the Oscars equivalent in the global advertising space.
 Kyoorius Founder and Director Rajesh Kejriwal hoped that with the support of Zee, the 2020 edition of the awards will see more participation as the 75 per cent financial support can really help regional and boutique agencies to enter the fray.
 In the last edition, there were around 3,000 entries from over 300 agencies, which he expects to jump by at least 10 per cent more, and also the number of participants from the smaller agencies to increase massively.
 There are more than 1,000 agencies in the country a vast majority of them are regional or boutique ones.
 A significant reason for the group to support the advertising fraternity is the fact that as an entertainment company straddling broadcast, films, music, digital and live entertainment, Zee has been a direct beneficiary of the immense creative talent of the advertising industry, Goenka said. Zee Group to pay 75% cost of each entry for Kyoorius ad awards

Mumbai, Mar 16 () The Essel Group on Monday said all the credit facilities availed by the group from the crippled Yes Bank are fully secured and that only the infra arm has taken the debt from the bank.The group in a statement also confirmed the Enforcement Directorate summon for group founder Subhash Chandra on March 18.The statement further claimed that "the Zee group has never made any transactions with Rana Kapoor (Yes Bank co-founder and the past MD who is now in ED custody) or his family or for that matter any private entities controlled by them and that "all credit facilities availed were fully secured".The ED has alleged that many companies including the Essel Group, Anil Ambani Group, HDIL, DHFL, among others have borrowed money from Yes Bank by giving kickbacks to Kapoor."We wish to confirm that the Enforcement Directorate has summoned Subhash Chandra on March 18 to make a statement on the information which is already available with them," the Zee group said in a statement. The statement further said Chandra will certainly be present to make the statement and will be more than happy to extend any support or cooperation requested by the ED. Indian OTT platforms ALTBalaji and Zee5 team up to take on Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime

New Delhi, June 7 (IANS) A hacker identifying himself as John Wick has claimed to have accessed the network of popular streaming service ZEE5, allegedly stealing over 150GB of user data along with the source code of the website. According to a report in cybersecurity news portal Quickcyber, the hacker who appeared to be from a Korean hacking group is now planning to dump the data in the public domain for open sale. The hacker told the publication that the stolen database of Zee5.com contains private details of the subscribers including their recent transactions, passwords, emails, mobile numbers, messages, etc. ZEE5 was yet to comment on the report. The breach may have occurred between February end or March. Ralph Wagner, CEO of software development firm Axinom that provides ZEE5 "software to manage content," told Quickcyber that they "do not manage Zee5 database" and "nor do Axinom system uses the mentioned MySQL database" which is part of the hacking. "Additionally, we will investigate this case, and will release a statement as soon as our investigations are complete," Wagnerwas quoted as saying. Hacker threatens to sell ZEE5 users' data online: Report

<ul><li>Subhash Chandra announced the resignation from his position at a company board meeting organised on November 25. He will continue as non-executive director of the company. </li><li>ZEE was launched back in 1992 by Chandra and he has continued playing a key role in its journey. </li><li>The Board committee also appointed three new independent directors Sunil Sharma, Niharika Vora and Subodh Kumar.</li></ul>Subhash Chandra, the Founder and Chairman of Zee Entertainment Limited, has resigned from his position. The resignation was announced during a company board meeting organised on November 25. The board accepted his resignation but insisted him to continue being the company's non-executive director. Chandra founded the company back in 1992. Chandra’s resignation comes after a few major global investors bought 16.5% stake in Essel Group’s ZEEL. The discussion was taken in order to repay loan obligations to certain lenders of the Group. Earlier this year, Essel Group had also sold 11% in Zee Entertainment to Invesco Oppenheimer Developing Markets Fund for ₹4,224 crore. Subhash Chandra’s son, Punit Goenka, will continue being the CEO and MD of ZEEL.

ZEE5 announces short video-sharing platform HiPi for Indian users

The deal, announced in September last year, has received the Competition Commission of India's nod after the regulator accepted "voluntary remedies" proposed by the parties, sources close to the development said. In a tweet, the watchdog said it has cleared the deal with certain modifications. CCI said it has approved the "amalgamation of <keyword id="1417408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zee-entertainment-enterprises-limited" source="Orion">Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited</keyword> (ZEEL) and Bangla Entertainment Private Limited (BEPL) with Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited (<keyword id="55015" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cme" source="Orion">CME</keyword>), with certain modifications". Details about the proposed modifications could not be immediately ascertained. CCI had issued show cause notices to the parties after it initially concluded that the deal could have an adverse impact on competition, the sources said. Subsequently, the parties proposed voluntary remedies, which have been accepted by the regulator, they added. ZEEL said CCI has granted the approval in phase-1 after evaluating the official legal and economic submissions made by the company. Most of the deals get cleared by CCI in phase-1 and only if there are serious concerns then the deal concerned is put up for public scrutiny under phase 2. "Considering the immense value which the proposed merger will generate for all its stakeholders, the company has offered the necessary remedies in accordance with the regulator's guidelines," ZEEL said, adding that further details are awaited. On September 7, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had advised the company to convene and conduct the meeting with its shareholders on October 14 to seek their approval for the proposed merger. The deal remains subject to applicable regulatory and other approvals, ZEEL said. In a separate statement, Sony Pictures Networks India said it is delighted to receive CCI approval for the merger. "We will now await remaining regulatory approvals to finally launch the new merged company. The merged company will create extraordinary value for Indian consumers and eventually lead the consumer transition from traditional pay TV into the digital future," it said. Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited was earlier known as Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd. Deals beyond certain thresholds require the approval of CCI, which keeps a tab on unfair business practices and also promotes fair competition in the marketplace. Both parties had entered into a definitive agreement for the deal in December last year and the proposed merger has already received approval from stock exchanges NSE and BSE. ZEEL, in September 2021, said it has entered into a non-binding term sheet with SPNI to bring together their linear networks, digital assets, production operations and programme libraries. The combined entity will own over 70 TV channels, 2 video streaming services (ZEE5 and Sony LIV) and two film studios (Zee Studios and Sony Pictures Films India), making it the largest entertainment network in India, ZEEL said in September last year. Under the deal, there will be amalgamation of ZEE and BEPL with CME. Besides, preferential allotment of certain shares will be made by CME to Sunbright International Holdings Limited, earlier known as Essel Holdings Limited, and Sunbright Mauritius Investments Limited, according to a release issued by CCI. CME is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation (SGC). CME has several general entertainment channels, film, sports and kids' entertainment channels in India. SonyLIV is CME's digital entertainment video service which provides OTT services in India and international markets. CME reaches out to over 700 million viewers in India and is available in 167 countries. BEPL is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of SGC and a part of the SGC Group. It is broadly engaged in the acquisition of rights for motion pictures, events and other TV cont ent; and in generating advertising revenue from the telecast of TV content. ZEE is a media and entertainment company, with presence across the segments of broadcasting, digital content, movies, music and live entertainment, spread over 190 countries, as per the release.  As per a report published by Economic Times, <keyword id="51166" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zee-Entertainment">Zee Entertainment</keyword> Enterprises Limited (<keyword id="353090" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zeel">ZEEL</keyword>) has banned mobile phone use across all its offices including its newspaper-DNA, which is headquartered in Mumbai and has workplace in other states as well. 
 The new rule, which came into action in April 2015, was initially implemented only for ventures under Zee Entertainment but recently, on July 16, 2015, the statute has been extended for other divisions including <keyword id="25384" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DNA">DNA</keyword> as well. 
 
On a question like why such a move, an editorial employee of the company explains, "People tend to misuse social networking sites inside office." So, to curb the unwanted usage of social networking platforms, as they might distract the employees, such moves are required. 
 
Another Zee employee, contradicting to what has been said, replies, such a policy will not increase productivity. "What might happen is journalists will find ways to stay away from reporting to office and work from outside.” 
 
However, the top officials have admitted that the policy is getting a lot of disagreements from senior managers in various group companies. A top official, on condition of anonymity told ET, "So the policy might not be there for too long."
