The average depositor followed later. These small deposits, also called CASA (current account-savings account) ratio, are the cheapest source of funds for any bank to make money. There is no run on the bank anymore and so, this number has shown remarkable growth in the last three months. For every ₹10 that depositors had parked in the bank a year ago, there is now ₹15.2. "In the next3years, we continue to stay focused on doubling the deposit book and increasing the customer base to almost 3 times. And we also aim to improve our CASA ratio to 40% and double the cross-sell ratios," Kumar said during Yes Bank's fourth quarter earnings call. However, the street is suspicious of that number too. “If you ask, any customer would not be confident about putting their money in Yes Bank right now. This ARC would buy the bank’s bad loans at a discount, help it clear the balance sheets, and start growing from there. According to the bank’s chief executive, Prashant Kumar, Yes Bank was hoping to deposit nearly ₹50,000 crore of bad loans to the ARC. However, the RBI turned down that request in March <a href="https://www.livemint.com/industry/banking/rbi-rejects-yes-bank-s-proposal-to-set-up-arc-11615722649056.html">citing</a> a conflict of interest. “Once the stock climbed back up [last year], they [Yes Bank] told investors they would want to apply for a separate ARC and they were confident of getting permission from the RBI, where they would basically park all the bad assets. But that didn’t happen,” said Emkay Global. However, according to Kumar, the option of setting up an ARC is still on the table. "That option is still alive and we would be waiting for more clarification to come from regulator after the report of the expert committee which they have made would come out," he said. Yes Bank shares are cheaper than what they were a year ago — and what could revive the investment, if at all

New Delhi, Jan 10 () Shares of <keyword id="45660" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">Yes Bank</keyword> on Friday tumbled over 5% after the company's Independent Director Uttam Prakash Agarwal resigned citing "serious concerns" on "deteriorating practices" and the state of affairs at the private sector lender. The scrip plunged 5.29% to close at Rs 44.80 on the BSE. During the day, it dropped 7.18% to Rs 43.90. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), it dived 4.96% to close at Rs 44.95. The stock was the worst hit among the Nifty-50 components. In terms of traded volume, 159.19 lakh shares of the company were traded on the BSE and over 30 crore shares on the NSE during the day. "I hereby tender my resignation from the office of the independent director of Yes <keyword id="6355272" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank">Bank</keyword> as also chairman of audit committee and member of all other committees of the board with immediate effect," he said in his resignation letter addressed to Non-Executive Part-Time Chairman Brahm Dutt. Yes Bank shares plunge over 5% after independent director resigns

Shares of Yes Bank on Monday zoomed over 30 per cent after State Bank of India (SBI) said it will pick up 49 per cent stake in the cash-strapped lender for Rs 2,450 crore. The scrip witnessed a sharp rise, spiking 29.63 per cent to Rs 21 on the BSE. On the NSE, it jumped 32.20 per cent to Rs 21.35. SBI on Saturday announced it will pick up a 49 per cent stake in Yes Bank for Rs 2,450 crore and clarified that all the deposits and liabilities of the reconstructed bank will continue in the "same manner". "Yes Bank has 255-crore shares of Rs 2 per share. SBI will be issued 245 crore shares at a price of Rs 10 per share for Rs 2,450 crore. This will be 49 per cent of the share capital of the reconstructed bank," the State Bank said in a statement. SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar had earlier said that it had set a maximum investment limit of Rs 10,000 crore for Yes Bank reconstruction process. SBI shares were trading over 4 per cent lower at Rs 258.50 on the BSE. Yes Bank has been struggling to raise capital amidst its dwindling financial health. Yes Bank shares shoot up by 30% after SBI decides to buy stake

However, analysts studying the bank’s fundamentals and financials do not feel the same. “While there is a significant improvement in <keyword id="6357061" type="SPONSORED" weightage="20" keywordseo="earnings">earnings</keyword> in Q1, profitability remains low with return on assets of 0.3%, and stress loans remain uncomfortably high at 29%... We expect credit cost to rise to 2.1% in FY23E [expected] as ageing provisions catch up,” said a report by Elara Capital while recommending a ‘sell’ rating on the stock. Meanwhile, analysts at Kotak Institutional Equities believe that earnings are far too volatile given the impact slippages have on interest income (NII) and provisions. The bank’s capital position is above regulatory requirements, but the flexibility to make higher provisions is quite limited, said the report while maintaining a ‘sell’ rating on the stock. YES Bank shares surge 5% as investors see a ray of hope after bank reported four fold growth in profit

<ul><li> The Mumbai-based bank posted a loss of ₹600 crore for the three months ended September 2019.</li><li>Yes Bank's share price has lost over 60% of its since the start of this year due to mounting cash crunch and the investors' anxiety with bank's earlier management.</li><li>Gross NPA, a measure of bad loans, spiked to 7.39% in the latest quarter, more than double compared to the first three months of 2019.</li></ul>The Mumbai-based Yes Bank posted a shocking loss of ₹600 crore for the three months ended September 2019. While the revenue fell 20%, costs rose during the quarter squeezing the operating profit by 40%. This is largely due to a sharp spike in bad loans. Gross NPA, a measure of bad loans, jumped to 7.39%— more than doubled compared to the level at the which the number was in the first three months of 2019. Gross NPA rose to ₹17,100 crore— nearly two and a half times more compared to three months ago. The amount of loans that turned sour during the quarter was over ₹5,945 crore. Bad loans take the wind out of Yes Bank— swings to a loss in the second quarter

Investors who were anxious about the bank’s survival heaved a sigh of relief and bet big money, taking the stock of Yes Bank higher by as much as 30% in afternoon trade on October 31. Earlier in August, Yes Bank had raised ₹1,930.46 crore through qualified institutional placement to fund its business expansion. The share price has more than doubled from its <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/whats-next-for-yes-bank-after-shares-double-from-decade-low/articleshow/71823268.cms">ten year low </a>it hit this month in anticipation of such fundraising. However, investors must remember the same SPGP Holdings bid for Reid &amp; Taylor earlier this year. It <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/nclt-mumbai-puts-rtils-liquidation-plans-on-hold/article25892000.ece">reportedly</a> had a corpus of $250 million but the bid was eventually rejected by the court because SPGP Holdings failed to deposit the earnest money, a paltry sum of ₹ 2 crore. The two-judge bench at India’s bankruptcy court slammed SPGP Holdings as they rejected its bid and handed it over to another Gujarat-based asset reconstruction firm. “You painted a rosy picture and misrepresented facts before us. This is just not correct. We waited for one week and now you say you cannot pay. This is contempt of court. You may withdraw your application. We are very unhappy with you,” Justice Mohan <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/reid-taylor-case-court-dismisses-spgps-plea-new-investor-in-the-fray/articleshow/67551449.cms?from=mdr">reportedly</a> told SPGP director Pankaj Agarwal, who was present in court. For now, Yes Bank’s investors are in cloud nine. "The bank also continues to be in advanced discussions with other global and domestic investors," Yes Bank’s statement said, adding that the fundraising plan is subject to regulatory approvals and bank's board and shareholders approvals. <ul><li>The private bank on the brink of collapse has been saved by the government who forced a bunch of peers to invest in Yes Bank.</li><li>Global investment bank Nomura, which suspended its rating on the bank, said that Yes Bank will remain on life support for a long time.</li><li>Yes Bank's capital levels are weak, there has already been a run on the deposits and it may get worse once the government removes the withdrawal limit on March 18, warns Nomura.</li><li>There are at least 3 broad reasons why people buying Yes Bank shares for a bargain may not gain in the long run.</li></ul>The private bank on the brink of collapse has been saved by the government, and the regulator Reserve Bank of India (RBI), who forced a bunch of its peers to invest in Yes Bank after limiting withdrawals by depositors. The share price of Yes Bank rebounded by over 45% on Monday (March 16) as bargain hunters lapped up the stock. Meanwhile, the RBI announced that the limit on withdrawing deposits will be lifted on March 18 at 6 pm.  Yes Bank reported an operational loss of ₹6.4 crore in the latest third quarter ended December 2019 after additional loans worth nearly ₹24,600 crore (over $3.3 billion) turned bad. Even before the RBI stopped withdrawals, many wary depositors had taken out their money ⁠— at least one in every five rupees deposited in the bank had been withdrawn between October and December 2019.  Gross non-performing assets (NPA), simply put the bad loans, rose sharply to 18.9%. Again, one in every five rupees lent by the bank are unlikely to be repaid. The bank further projected another 5% of the loans may go from being 'stressed' to 'bad', which means it has to be written off. "While the bank did ramp up its provision cover to 73% but with balance-sheet size shrinking, the left-over book will remain highly toxic, making any recovery in profitability very difficult, in our view," Nomura said in report on Yes Bank on March 16. 3. Shareholders can't exit if things go awry The government's rescue plan that includes investments from peers like State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Limited, and Axis Bank among others will reduce stake of existing shareholders. When shares are issued to new investors, the stake that existing shares represent fall. The amount of capital Yes Bank has, even after the rescue, is still very little— the tier-1 capital is at 7.6%. Yes Bank is damaged beyond repair, says Nomura while RBI tells depositors to keep calm

New Delhi, Mar 6 () The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday put restrictions on Yes Bank shares in various segments, including futures and options.In a rare move, capital-starved Yes Bank was on Thursday placed under a moratorium, with the RBI capping deposit withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account for a month and superseding its board.The categories placed under restriction include debt, securities lending and borrowing scheme, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives, futures and options, as per notification by NSE."Due to the recent development in Yes Bank it has been decided that no fresh or renewal of bank guarantees and fixed deposit receipt issued by the bank limited will be accepted," it said.The existing benefit provided to members towards Bank Guarantees and Fixed Deposit Receipt issued by Yes Bank in favour of NSE Clearing Ltd, shall also be reduced, it added. "The financial position of Yes Bank has undergone a steady decline largely due to inability of the bank to raise capital to address potential loan and losses and resultant downgrades, triggering invocation of bond covenants by investors and withdrawal of deposits," NSE said in a separate circular.The bank has also experienced serious governance issues and practices in the recent years which have led to steady decline of the bank, it added.
