Debt-ridden telecom company <keyword id="1553175" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vodafone-idea" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea</keyword>'s board will meet on Friday to finalise plans for raising funds. Vodafone Idea has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (<keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword>) that its board will meet on October 21 to consider a proposal to raise funds through the issuance of convertible debentures. "<keyword id="6583012" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vodafone-idea-ltd" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea Ltd</keyword> has informed the BSE that the meeting of the <keyword id="136326" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="board-of-directors" source="Orion">Board of Directors</keyword> of the company is scheduled on October 21, to consider and approve a proposal for issuance of debenture securities convertible into equity shares on a preferential or private placement basis to a vendor, subject to regulatory and other statutory approvals as may be required, including shareholders' approval," the company said in a notice to the BSE. Vodafone Idea has been trying to raise funds for a long time but has not succeeded. It may try and raise funds through the issuance of convertible debentures through private placement to a vendor. Vodafone Idea owes an estimated Rs 6,800 crore to mobile tower giant Indus Towers and also Rs 2,400 crore to ATC. Indus Towers is said to have asked Vodafone Idea to clear its outstanding dues and pay every month on time for the continuity of business post-November 2022. Vodafone Idea's board to finalise fund raising plan on Friday

India's largest telecom operator <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword> added 30.5 lakh mobile subscribers in March, accelerating its momentum of February, while <keyword id="1553175" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vodafone-idea" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea</keyword> lost 12.12 lakh wireless users during the month, according to data released by telecom regulator <keyword id="6356988" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI" source="Orion">TRAI</keyword>. Sunil Mittal-led telecom company <keyword id="6354287" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharti-airtel" source="Orion">Bharti Airtel</keyword> onboarded 10.37 lakh mobile subscribers in March, raising its subscriber base to 37.09 crores in March against 36.98 crores in February. Reliance Jio added 30.5 lakh subscribers in March, as its subscriber count exceeded 43 crore, compared to 42.71 crore in February. It is pertinent to mention that in February too, Reliance Jio had added the maximum number of mobile subscribers (at about 10 lakh) among telcos, while <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> had gained 9.82 lakh mobile users during February. A look at March data released by TRAI showed that Vodafone Idea -- which trails Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in the mobile market subscriber tally -- lost 12.12 lakh mobile users in March. Vodafone Idea's mobile subscriber base shrunk to 23.67 crore in March, from 23.79 crore in the previous month. Overall, the broadband subscribers' tally rose by 0.86 per cent month-on-month. "... the total broadband subscribers increased from 839.33 million at the end of February-23 to 846.57 million at the end of March-23 with a monthly growth rate of 0.86 per cent," a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) release said. Top five service providers constituted 98.37 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of March 2023, including Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (43.85 crore), Bharti Airtel (24.19 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.48 crore). Overall, the number of total telephone subscribers in India increased to 1,172.84 million (117.2 crore) at the end of March 2023, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.21 per cent. "Urban telephone subscription increased from 652.16 million at the end of February-23 to 653.71 million at the end of March-23 and the rural subscription also increased from 517.77 million to 518.63 million during the same period. "The monthly growth rates of urban and rural telephone subscription were 0.24 per cent and 0.17 per cent respectively during the month of March-23," TRAI said. Overall teledensity in India increased to 84.51 per cent at the end of March 2023. "The Urban Tele-density increased from 133.70 per cent at the end of February-23 to 133.81 per cent at the end of March-23 and rural tele-density also increased from 57.63 per cent to 57.71 per cent during the same period," it said. Jio adds 3 million subscribers in March, Vodafone Idea loses 1.2 million

The oil-to-telecom-and-retail conglomerate's consolidated net profit stood at Rs 18,951 crore, or Rs 28.01 per share, in January-March quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal compared to Rs 19,299 crore, or Rs 28.52 a share, a year ago, according to a company's stock exchange filing. The profit was, however, higher quarter-on-quarter when compared to Rs 17,265 crore in October-December period. For the full fiscal FY24 (April 2023 to March 2024), Reliance posted a record net profit of Rs 69,621 crore as compared to Rs 66,702 crore earnings in the preceding financial year. Reliance also became the first Indian company to hit Rs 10 lakh crore turnover in FY24 when revenue from operations rose 2.6 per cent from Rs 9.74 lakh crore in 2022-23. The oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business, the main milch cow, posted a rise in profitability annually as well as sequentially, while retail business' earnings rose on new store openings despite lower footfalls. The firm helmed by billionaire <keyword id="19916798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="keywords">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> saw telecom revenues soar as it outpaced competition in subscriber addition and data traffic. While quarterly EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was up 14.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 47,150 crore, registering growth across all businesses, the revenue from operations rose almost 11 per cent to Rs 2.64 lakh crore. The mainstay oil refining and petrochemicals business, called O2C, posted a 11 per cent rise in revenue and a 3 per cent higher EBITDA at Rs 16,777 crore in Q4. This was primarily because of "advantageous" sourcing of feedstock (crude oil) for refining business and use of ethane for making chemicals as well as higher domestic product placement, a company statement said, adding exports were down 8.5 per cent. With the consumer base swelling to 481.8 million from 470.9 million at the end of December on a flat per-user revenues of Rs 181.7, Reliance <keyword id="21397660" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-Infocomm-Ltd" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Jio Infocomm Ltd" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Jio Infocomm Ltd">Jio Infocomm Ltd</keyword> - the digital services business - posted a 12 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 5,583 crore in the fourth quarter of FY24. Also, aiding the business was rise in data traffic to 40.9 billion GB in January-March from 38.1 billion GB in the preceding quarter. For the full year, Jio posted a profit of Rs 21,424 crore as compared to Rs 19,124 crore in FY23. Profits from the retail business climbed 11.7 per cent to Rs 2,698 crore as store count rose to 18,836 from 18,774. Store footfalls dropped to 272 million from 282 million in October-December 2023 but were higher than 219 million recorded in January-March 2023. Oil and gas EBITDA soared 47.5 per cent to Rs 5,606 crore as higher gas volumes partly offset lower price realisation. The firm's flagship KG-D6 block in Krishna Godavari basin in the Bay of Bengal is now producing about 30 million standard cubic metres per day of gas and 23,000 barrels a day of oil/condensate. The company said its outstanding debt rose to Rs 3.24 lakh crore from Rs 3.11 lakh crore in December-end. After accounting for cash in hand, net debt at Rs 1.16 lakh crore as on March 31 was lower than Rs 1.25 lakh crore a year back. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of <keyword id="20076630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries-limited" source="keywords">Reliance Industries Limited</keyword>, said all segments of business have posted a robust financial and operating performance. Performance of the digital services segment has been boosted by accelerated expansion of subscriber base, supported by both mobility and fixed wireless services, he said. Despite headwinds, maintaining leading product positions and feedstock flexibility through our operating model that prioritises cost management, we delivered a resilient performance," he said. "We remain committed to our projects and initiatives, including those in the new energy segment, which will bolster the company, and help it deliver sustainable growth for the future," he added. Reliance Industries quarterly profit stays flat; annual earnings hit record at ₹69,621 crore

In a regulatory filing, VIL said that it has used this opportunity to optimise its spectrum holding post-merger to create further efficiencies in few circles. "The spectrum we have acquired in the 5 circles will further help us to enhance our 4G coverage and capacity, enabling superior digital experience for our customers," it said in the filing. The company said that it entered the auction holding the largest quantum of spectrum with a very small fraction, which was administratively allocated and used for <keyword id="17406" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="GSM">GSM</keyword> services, coming up for renewal. Congratulating the <keyword id="116246" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Telecommunications">Department of Telecommunications</keyword> (DoT) for the successful completion of the spectrum auction, the company, however said that as the industry readies to deploy 5G technology with <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> specific use cases in the next few years. Vi acquires spectrum in five telecom circles in auction

Telecom operator, <keyword id="1553175" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vodafone-idea" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea</keyword> Ltd (<keyword id="634808" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vil" source="Orion">VIL</keyword>) on Sunday claimed that it has achieved peak speed in excess of 3.7 Gbps with very low latency on the mmWave spectrum band in its 5G trials. The company is conducting 5G trials on government allocated 5G spectrum in the cities of Pune and Gandhinagar, along with its technology vendors. In Pune, VIL has deployed its 5G trial in a lab setup of end-to-end captive network of Cloud Core, and new generation Transport and Radio Access Network. The company said that top speeds were achieved in this trial using state of the art equipment in 5G non-standalone network architecture and using NR Radios. VIL has been allocated mmWave high bands like 26 GHz by the DoT, along with the traditional 3.5 GHz spectrum band, for 5G network trials. mmWave delivers wide spectrum and capacity over the shortest distances for 5G, delivering lower latencies. It has also achieved peak download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps in 3.5 Ghz band 5G trial network, with its OEM partners in Gandhinagar and Pune. Commenting on the trial performance so far, VIL CTO Jagbir Singh said: "We are pleased with the speed and latency results in the initial stages of the 5G trials on the Govt allocated 5G spectrum bands. Having established a robust 4G network pan-India, delivering fastest 4G speeds and a 5G-ready network, we are now testing the NextGen 5G technology to be able to bring a truly digital experience for enterprises and consumers in India, in the future."
