Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday cautioned that the ICMR's Sero survey report should not create a sense of complacency in people, as the Indian population is not even close to achieving herd immunity. His warning, in the third episode of the 'Sunday Samvaad' weekly interaction he has been holding with his social media followers every Sunday for the last three weeks, comes on the day when the World Health Organisation (WHO) also advised against any attempts to achieve herd immunity or to hope that it will eventually save people. "Herd immunity or natural population immunity is not an option. Let's put our energy, focus, workforce, actions into what works," said Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">Covid-19</keyword> Technical Lead. Harsh Vardhan noted that the first sero-survey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in May revealed that the nationwide prevalence of novel coronavirus infection was only 0.73 per cent. "Even the soon-to-be-released second sero-survey's indications are that we are far from having achieved any kind of herd immunity which necessitates that all of us should continue following Covid-appropriate behaviour," he added. On the emerging evidence that the disease not only impacts the lungs but other organ systems too, especially cardiovascular and renal, the Minister said that the Union Health Ministry has already set up committees of experts to look into these facets. Besides, he informed that that states and Union Territories have been advised to lower the prices of Covid tests. "In the early days of the pandemic, as the kits were imported, the price tended to be high. But now, supplies of testing kits have also stabilised, and domestic production of these kits have also commenced," Harsh Vardhan said, adding that his ministry has written to states and UTs to engage private laboratories at mutually agreeable lower rates. The minister also informed that he had spoken personally to several state Health Ministers regarding the reduction of prices of testing in their respective states. <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> on Tuesday recorded 3038 fresh cases of covid in the last 24 hours with the active caseload standing at 21,179. The COVID cases in India have seen an upward trend in the past few days with the daily fresh infections ranging between 2,994 on April 1 to 3,824 on April 2 and 3,641 on April 3 now dropped to 3038 in the last 24 hours. With 2,069 recoveries in the last 24 hours, total recoveries have increased to 4,41,77,204. India's recovery rate is currently at 98.76 per cent. The daily and weekly positivity rates are 1.84 per cent and 2.49 per cent respectively. A total of 1,894 doses were administered in the last 24 hours. Of the 92.20 crore total tests conducted so far, 1,64,740 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. In the wake of rising COVID cases in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday said that Omicron's sub-variant which is circulating in the country has not led to an increase in hospitalisations and there is no need to worry. The Minister said that there is a need to remain vigilant. "We need to remain alert but there is no need to worry. Currently, the sub-variant of Omicron which is circulating in the country hasn't increased hospitalisations," Mandaviya said. <keyword id="6360189" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Union-Budget">Union Budget</keyword> gave priority to farmers and weaker sections, a much needed measure. "The budget is for everybody. Budget has been provided for infrastructure like ports, rail, airports. In the health sector, for poor people, upto Rs 1 lakh cost of hospitalisation will be borne by the government. This is a progressive and visionary budget," Union Environment Minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword> told PTI. 

	Similar views were echoed by other ministers of the ruling party with Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi calling it a "perfect, people-friendly and progressive budget". 
 

	"India is a country where agriculture holds a prime place but it is after years that this has been reflected in a budget which gives priority to farmers as well as weaker sections. This budget is one which will also lead to empowerment of the youth," he said. 
 

	Union Health Minister J P Nadda termed it as a "positive and balanced" budget and said that there were several initiatives for health and other social sectors which reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas'. 
 

	"My congratulations to the finance minister Arun Jaitley for bringing such a good, positive and balanced budget. There are several initiatives for health and other social sectors which truly reflect PM Narendra Modi 's vision of Sabka Saath,Sabka Vikas. 
 

	"Proposed Health Protection Scheme will greatly benefit the common people of the country. This budget will help India achieve twin objectives of economic growth, equitable distribution of benefits and resources at an accelerated pace," Nadda said in a series of tweets.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday decided to hold mock drills at all health facilities across the country on December 27 in the wake of the COVID alarm due to a surge in infection in many countries. This is to ensure readiness in the availability of oxygen support, and ICU beds among other preparedness measures in case of a surge of COVID cases in India. According to the Ministry, the objective of the exercise is to ensure the operational readiness of these health facilities for the management of COVID. Detailing the focus on the parameters during the mock drills, it said that the main focus will be on the bed capacities including isolation, oxygen-supported and ICU beds at the health facilities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday (December 22) to assess the COVID-19 situation in the country and cautioned against complacency while laying stress on testing and strengthening the surveillance measures, especially at international airports. He emphasized COVID-appropriate behavior at all times, especially in view of the upcoming festive season, including wearing masks in crowded public places. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Miniter Mansukh Mandaviya and NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer Parameswaran Iyer were among others who participated in the meeting.
