Jain will be based out of Singapore. “His addition to the team underscores our deep commitment to helping founders realise their dreams of building very large and enduring companies, many of whom will become key pillars of this region’s growth, prosperity and innovation,” said the company in a statement. Jain had quit as Uber’s Asia Pacific head in April. Jain was appointed as Uber India head in 2015, and went on to head its APAC business in 2018. Before Uber, Jain was the President at Rent.com, a housing classifieds site in Los Angeles. He had also worked at TPG Capital and McKinsey. <keyword id="563136" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-India">Sequoia India</keyword> has been on a <keyword id="6357342" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hiring">hiring</keyword> spree in 2019, adding many star candidates to its list. In April 2019, Sequoia hired former Google India head Rajan Anandan. Anandan, the VP for Google South East Asia and India, resigned from the Internet giant to join the VC firm Sequoia Capital’s India and SEA wing. Anandan is also leading Sequoia’s accelerator programme, Surge.

India has become a hub from <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> and is operating many markets from the country. The cab aggregator is expanding in South Asian nations such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc from India itself. 
 
Uber India head Amit Jain is now the South Asia President who said the company would expand in multiple cities across the region. 
 
The rider and driver support for these regions are being handled by an office in Hyderabad and as far as innovation is concerned, it is being done at an engineering centre in Bengaluru. 
 
Uber launched its operations in Dhaka with the cash payments feature that was started for the first time in India. 
 
"We are also building a product and engineering team in Bengaluru which will over the next six months or so go to a size of 100 people. We have opened up a big support facility in Hyderabad, with around 350-400 people. The team in the country has grown significantly from 100 people 12 months ago to 800 people now,” Jain told ET. 
 
"We continue to be a big proponent of private ride sharing and we are talking to the central government on how can we adopt regulations for more and more private car ride sharing, how can we use our technology, because that is the true solution for some of the traffic congestion and pollution issues,” he said. 
 
Jain said in the coming years, Uber is likely to expand only in a "handful, of Indian cities and will continue to "experiment, with different models.

Faced with similar challenges, Uber pulled out of China in 2016 and Southeast Asia in 2018 and decided to focus on India. Jain had been appointed as Uber India head in 2015 and last year he went on to head the APAC business. Harford further added that Pierre will now work with the APAC teams to unlock opportunity markets such as Japan and South Korea. Uber loses its Asia Pacific head Amit Jain on its way to Wall Street

Cab aggregator <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> has come up with a 'Schedule a Ride' feature and now you will be able to schedule rides in advance on the app. 
 
This new feature is launched in over 20 cities and users can book rides up to 30 days in advance. 
 
"A top-requested service from riders around the world, especially from business travelers...Riders can schedule an uberX or an uberGO for as little as 15 minutes to as many as 30 days in advance," stated Uber. 
 
Users can cancel anytime before their ride is on the way, it added. 
 Amit Jain, President for <keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword>, said the offering minimises idle time for its driver-partners.

Online taxi-hailing company Uber is going to set up its centre in Hyderabad and will <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> around $50 million (Rs 317 crore) to train its drivers and customer support staff in India. The US-based company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the <keyword id="541763" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana-Government">Telangana government</keyword>. It plans to hire about 500 people to this facility in the next 5 years, reported the Economic Times. 

	Moreover, its India customer support team already operates out of Hyderabad. 
 Uber will also collaborate with <keyword id="2936688" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telangana-Academy-for-Skills-and-Knowledge">Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge</keyword> to train over 2,000 drivers by the end of 2016, who will then drive on its platform, ET cited a statement by the company on Monday. 

	In April, Uber appointed Amit Jain, a former top executive at US-based Rent.com, as its first India head, signaling that it was betting bigger on India, its largest market outside the US. 
 

	Uber, which competes with Ola and Meru in the country, has been expanding aggressively in China and India as it globally bets on emerging markets to drive growth and business opportunities. 
 

	Early in July, the company began operations in Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Indore, Mysore, Nagpur, Surat and Visakhapatnam, taking its total presence in the country to 18 cities.

The announcement came days after its rival, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ola">Ola</a>, is expected to raise at least $500 million in India. 
 <keyword id="30126" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Jain">Amit Jain</keyword>, the India president for the San Francisco-based <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startup">startup</a>, told Economic Times Uber will establish a great support network and public-private partnerships. 
 
"Uber is currently at a $250-million run rate in India, with close to 200,000 rides a day," an industry source told the financial daily. 
 
Uber stated the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=investment">investment</a> will help the app-only company reach over 1 million trips per day in the next six to nine months and expected to support over 200,000 jobs in India by 2016. 
 
Taxi-hailing app Uber was launched in India in 2013 from Bengaluru and presently is available in 18 cities. 
 
Meanwhile, Uber's Asia head for business, Eric Alexander, told ET last year that the company was ready to invest $500 million in India over the next few years. 
 
In China too, Uber is expected to invest $1 billion in 2015 to expand operations. 
 
It is noteworthy <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=taxi+apps">Taxi apps</a> such as Uber and Ola are rapidly changing the industry without owning a fleet of their own but using technology to provide cabs on demand. 
 
Meanwhile, in the past three months, Uber has rapidly adapted itself to the Indian market. 
 
It is venturing with Telangana government to identify and train more than 2,000 drivers by the end of 2016 who will then drive on the Uber platform. The company, which plans to invest up to $50 million in the southern state, has set up its customer care facility in Hyderabad. 
 
Uber also started partnering with autos in Delhi and is rolling out cash payment options for customers in six cities. 
 
On the other hand, Ola is focussing on increasing presence in smaller towns and cities.
