The profit is anticipated to be Rs 256.1 (USD 3.1) per passenger in the fiscal ending March 2025, aviation advisory firm CAPA India said while giving projections at its <keyword id="21969773" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation-summit" source="keywords">aviation summit</keyword> in the national capital on Friday. Out of the total, 81.1 per cent will be domestic and 18.9 per cent will be international traffic, it said. As per the report, the <keyword id="20006900" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airport-Authority-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Airport Authority of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Airport Authority of India">Airport Authority of India</keyword>'s (AAI) profitability is likely to remain robust in FY2024 and FY2025. "The topline will grow due to an increase in aeronautical revenue along with the receipt of revenue share from the recently privatised six non-metro airports, without having to incur any expense associated with it - resulting in higher profitability," it added. The industry's profit before tax is expected to be USD 1.3 billion in this fiscal. "India's airport operators are forecast to register Rs 359.8 billion (USD 4.3 billion) in revenue for FY2025, representing a growth of 14.8 per cent y-o-y from FY2024," CAPA India said. Noting that airport infrastructure at metros and non-metros is ahead of demand, it said there is an ongoing USD 11 billion pipeline of investment, including in Tier 2 and Tier 3 airports. Airport industry to see profit before tax of $1.3 billion this fiscal

New Delhi: The <keyword id="21833060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fintech-ecosystem" source="keywords">Fintech ecosystem</keyword> of the country now cumulatively valued at over USD 100 billion, is at a pivotal stage of evolution, with the potential to create two to three times its current value over the next decade, as per a report by <keyword id="20058186" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCG" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BCG" meta.hostid="269" meta.entityid="BCG">BCG</keyword> and Z47. The report highlighted that India remains one of the top three global Fintech destinations, with the ecosystem witnessing exponential growth across all levels. It added that over the past four years, the number of <keyword id="22974213" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Minicorns" source="keywords">Minicorns</keyword> (valuation at least USD 1 million but less than USD 1 billion) in the country has increased by 3.5 times, while the number of <keyword id="19944451" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Unicorns" source="keywords">Unicorns</keyword> and Soonicorns (startup that is growing quickly and has the potential to become a "unicorn" valued at USD 1 billion) has tripled. The report noted that in 2023, the country's Fintech market achieved a revenue size of USD 25 billion, marking a 56 per cent year-on-year growth which is a remarkable contrast to the global Fintech growth rate of just 13 per cent during the same period. However, the report also added that despite generating over USD 100 billion in value within the last decade, Indian Fintechs are still considered to be in the "middle" phase of their development, especially when compared to traditional incumbents who have created USD 600 billion+ in value over 30 to 50 years. The report mentioned that now the growth and the further expansion of the fintech ecosystem in the country is expected to come from the Tier 2 cities where majority of the Indian population resides. "With 63 per cent of the Indian population outside the top cities, huge opportunity exists to serve Bharat with next wave of penetration expected to come from Tier 2 cities" the report added. As Fintechs mature, profitability has become a central focus across the sector, with over 40 per cent of founders and CXOs (Chief Experience Officers) prioritizing unit economics alongside market expansion. Those preparing for or currently undergoing the IPO process are increasingly emphasizing governance, investment in infrastructure, and security. The report noted that in a recent survey of over 60 executives from top Fintechs, the majority cited market share expansion and growth as key priorities, especially for early and growth-stage companies. Post-IPO stage Fintechs, however, are placing greater emphasis on profitability and investments in technology, infrastructure, and security. However, a muted trend in domestic equities and foreign fund outflows capped the gains for the local unit. In initial trade it touched 83.94, registering a gain of 3 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee settled for the day lower by 2 paise at 83.97 against the American currency. Forex traders said market participants are treading cautiously amid a landscape fraught with geopolitical uncertainties and a consolidating US Dollar. However, the Indian rupee is trading in a narrow range and the stability is underpinned by several factors: a narrowing fiscal deficit, stable oil prices, stronger economic growth and the RBI's substantial reserves of <keyword id="19944038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="usd" source="keywords">USD</keyword> 675 billion, ready to be deployed if needed, <keyword id="22767762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CR-Forex-Advisors" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="CR Forex Advisors" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="CR Forex Advisors">CR Forex Advisors</keyword> MD Amit Pabari said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 83.48 and settled for the day lower by 10 paise at 83.50 (provisional) against the American currency. On Friday, the rupee appreciated 13 paise to 83.40 against the US dollar. "We expect the rupee to trade with a slight negative bias on strong US Dollar amid rising expectations of a delay in interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve due to tight job market," said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. However, softening crude oil prices and optimism over a stable government may support the rupee at lower levels. Traders may take cues from inflation data from India and the US. Investors may also watch out for the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting this week. USD/INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 83.20 to Rs 83.80. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 105.27, higher by 0.37 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.21 per cent to USD 79.79 per barrel. Modi will be heading a 72-member Union Council of Ministers putting emphasis on continuity, youth and experience, while also rewarding partners in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 4,391.02 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, India's forex reserves jumped USD 4.837 billion to a new all-time high of USD 651.51 billion for the week ended May 31, the <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword> said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had dropped USD 2.027 billion to USD 646.673 billion.

Rupee falls 10 paise to close at 83.50 against US dollar; Downside restricted by easing political uncertainties, per traders

New Delhi, Foreign direct investment (<keyword id="19946824" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fdi" source="keywords">FDI</keyword>) inflows in India declined 13 per cent to USD 32.03 billion in April-December 2023, dragged down by lower infusion in computer hardware and software, telecom, auto, and pharma sectors, according to the latest government data. FDI inflows stood at USD 36.74 billion during the corresponding nine months of the preceding fiscal. Inflows during the October-December quarter of the current fiscal, however, rose by 18 per cent to USD 11.6 billion as against USD 9.83 billion during the same quarter of 2022-23. The total FDI -- which includes equity inflows, reinvested earnings and other capital -- declined by about 7 per cent to USD 51.5 billion during the period under review against USD 55.27 billion in April-December 2022, the data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) showed. During the nine-month period of this fiscal, FDI equity inflows decreased from major countries, including Singapore, the US, the UK, Cyprus and the UAE. Investments fell significantly from the Cayman Islands and Cyprus to USD 215 million and USD 796 million, respectively, during April-December 2023 as against the two comparative figures of USD 624 million and USD 1.15 billion recorded in the year-ago period. However, inflows increased from <keyword id="19956313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mauritius" source="keywords">Mauritius</keyword>, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany. Sectorally, inflows contracted in computer software and hardware, trading, services, telecommunication, automobile, pharma and chemicals. In contrast, construction (infrastructure) activities, development and power sectors registered growth in inflows. State-wise, Maharashtra received the highest inflow of USD 12.1 billion during the period. It was USD 10.76 billion in the same period a year ago. Overseas capital inflows in Karnataka plunged to USD 3.6 billion in April-December 2023 from USD 8.77 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. Other states/Union Territories where FDI dipped during the period under review included Delhi, <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, West Bengal, <keyword id="19898913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan" source="keywords">Rajasthan</keyword> and <keyword id="19904807" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana" source="keywords">Haryana</keyword>. The inflow, however, recorded a positive growth in Gujarat, Telangana, and Jharkhand. An official has earlier stated that hardening interest rates globally and worsening geopolitical situation impacted FDI inflows. FDI equity inflows into India declined 22 per cent to USD 46 billion in 2022-23.

FDI inflows decline 13% to $32 billion in April-December 2023

This is the third consecutive week of a drop in the reserves after the USD 8.319 billion decrease in the previous reporting week to USD 566.948 billion. In October 2021, the country's forex kitty had reached an all-time high of USD 645 billion. The reserves have been declining as the central bank deploys the kitty to defend the rupee amid pressures caused majorly by global developments. For the week ended February 17, the foreign currency assets, a major component of the reserves, decreased by USD 4.515 billion to USD 496.072 billion, according to the <keyword id="513231" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="weekly-statistical-supplement" source="Orion">Weekly Statistical Supplement</keyword> released by the RBI. Expressed in dollar terms, the foreign currency assets include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units like the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves. Gold reserves decreased for the third week running and were USD 1.045 billion down to USD 41.817 billion, the RBI said. The Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) were also down by USD 87 million to USD 18.267 billion, the apex bank said. The country's reserve position with the <keyword id="6355408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="imf" source="Orion">IMF</keyword> was down by USD 34 million to USD 5.111 billion in the reporting week, the apex bank data showed. India's forex reserves drop by USD 5.68 billion to USD 561.26 billion

Currently, the <keyword id="22345339" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AVGC-XR" source="keywords">AVGC-XR</keyword> sector accounts for approximately 20 per cent of India's media and entertainment (M&amp;E) industry and is poised for further expansion, as per the CII GT report. AVGC-XR stands for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality. The report further anticipated that the Indian <keyword id="20349295" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-gaming-industry" source="keywords">online gaming industry</keyword> will reach to USD 4.6 billion by 2026, with its contribution to the M&amp;E sector rising from 10 per cent to 13 per cent. Currently, the online gaming industry is valued at USD 2.62 billion, as per the report. The report underscores the sector's potential as a major employment driver. The sector is expected to create of over 160,000 new jobs annually, with a total of 20 lakh new jobs anticipated by 2030. The report calls for the swift implementation of the National Draft Policy Framework for AVGC-XR. The report further added that a push in the AVGC-XR sector could accelerate growth, paving the way for a larger, more vibrant creative economy. India's AVGC sector had an overall market size of USD 2.3 billion in 2019, which was about 0.7 per cent of the global market size. The sector is expected to grow 2.2 times over the next four years driven by market forces and constitute about 1.5 per cent of the global AVGC market as per Draft National Policy, AVGC-XR, according to the report. Further, the CII GT report advocates for enhanced Intellectual Property Rights to retain talent and content and the introduction of clear regulatory definitions within the gaming industry. The report also calls for enhanced support for AVGC-XR entrepreneurs through Start-Up India and strategic investments in the National Centre of Excellence to foster innovation and global competitiveness. India's Animation and VFX segment to reach at $2.2 billion by 2026: report

The Indian <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> plunged to a 12-month low of 83.28 against the US dollar on Monday amid rising oil prices and uncertainty in global markets due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> has been intervening periodically to sell dollars in the market to prevent the rupee from going into a free fall, according to traders. The benchmark Brent crude was hovering at close to $91 a barrel after having jumped nearly 6 per cent on Friday. While Israel is poised to carry out its ground attack in Gaza, there are fears that the tensions may escalate into a wider geopolitical crisis with the US and Iran getting involved. This could lead to a disruption in the flow of oil from the Middle East region. The US has already moved two aircraft carriers into the Mediterranean Sea, while Iran has issued statements in support of Hamas while criticising Israel. Oil prices soared nearly 30 per cent in the three months to September, the biggest third-quarter gain in almost two decades. With rising crude oil prices in the international market pushing up the demand for dollars, the Indian rupee has slumped to record lows below 83 against the US greenback. India's current account deficit (CAD) jumped seven-fold to $9.2 billion in the April-June quarter compared to the corresponding figure of $1.3 billion in the preceding quarter, according to the latest RBI data released last week. The continuing surge in oil prices and slowing exports due to a decline in demand in global markets, which is expected to widen further, will bring the rupee under further pressure. CAD for April-June quarter of 2023-24 was 1.1 per cent of the GDP. According to Emkay Global Financial Services lead economist Madhavi Arora, the July-September quarter will see a "substantial widening of CAD" to 2.4 per cent of the GDP on account of higher oil prices, higher core imports and further slowing of services exports.

Rupee plunges to 12-month low against dollar

Mumbai, The rupee witnessed range-bound trading against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, weighed down by a negative trend in domestic equities, elevated crude oil prices and strong American currency. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 83.09 against the dollar, registering a rise of 7 paise over its previous close. The domestic unit also touched 83.13 against the American currency in initial trade. On Friday, the rupee fell 13 paise to settle at 83.16 against the US dollar. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.04 per cent to 105.27. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.40 per cent to USD 94.31 per barrel. Forex traders said the depreciation in the rupee can be attributed to several factors, including elevated crude oil prices, strong US dollar, foreign fund outflows and a widening trade deficit. India's exports declined by 6.86 per cent to USD 34.48 billion in August this year as against USD 37.02 billion in the same month last year, government data showed on Friday. Imports too declined by 5.23 per cent to USD 58.64 billion as against USD 61.88 billion recorded in August 2022. Meanwhile, India's forex reserves dropped by USD 4.992 billion to USD 593.904 billion for the week ended September 8, the Reserve Bank of India said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the kitty rose by USD 4.039 billion to USD 598.897 billion. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 174.33 points or 0.26 per cent to 67,664.30. The broader NSE Nifty fell 42.15 points or 0.21 per cent to 20,150.20. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market on Friday as they purchased shares worth Rs 164.42 crore, according to exchange data.
